This review is long overdue, but I'm so glad I found this place! Moe and Favio go above and beyond for their customers. I appreciate that they always take the time to explain pros/cons of choosing which repairs to do and what they believe to be the root cause of issues (for example, they said my spark plugs misfiring could actually be contributing to an oil leak issue I've had on and off, I had no idea they were related). I've also found their pricing to be reasonable and transparent. They're also just really friendly, whenever they see me topping off my tires at the gas station out front they'll tell me to pull around so they can do it if they're not busy, and they're happy to do a free check-up whenever the check engine light inevitably comes back on in my Honda Accord with ~200k miles to see what the error message is. I highly recommend! I was in the area for a day trip when I noticed my engine light was on. Most car repair shops were closed because it was Saturday afternoon. Luckily, Beacon was open and Moe helped me feel at-ease. He told me what had to be replaced and gave me choices of other things that will need attention soon. He gave me a reasonable quote for my choices and said it would be ready on Monday. I had to get a rental car to get home, and I wasn't able to return until Wednesday, but when I returned, it was ready and the finished price stayed the same as the quote. I came into Beacon Auto Repair recently to inquire about new tires for my 1st Gen Scion xB box and also a noise it was making. I was greeted by Favio and he immediately began to question exactly what was going on in order to help me get down to the bottom of the issue. I had called at least 5 other shops in the area and he was the one who had the best service. I had a pre-purchase inspection done and it was extremely thorough, including photos of the parts of the vehicle that could use attention and explanations. I was able to use this to confidently discuss the value of the used vehicle I was looking to buy, which made the cost of the inspection beyond worth the price. I spent $3,000 at one of their locations recently. I still have the problem going on with my car. The manager "Favio" says to take it to another shop after taking my money. I emailed the owner and am waiting on his reply. I will update the review once I hear from the owner. Times are very hard because of the pandemic. I hope this issue gets resolved professionally and soon. I am out $3,000 and still have the same issue. My family is going though a very tough time because of this. I have all copies of invoices, replies from the mechanic, and my email to the owner. If I don't get a response I will post it all here and on social media. As well as contact Consumer Affairs, the local Attorney General, and any news establishments that want to hear my story. People deserve honest work done and need to know the truth on how issues like this are resolved, especially during these hard times dealing with pandemic. I hope the owner replies back to me soon. I have gotten a few things done at this shop and this is what i have experienced: Owner or person in charge is very nice. The mechanic on the other hand, well there is something going on with him. First time i met him, he was very nice and knowledgeable but when i had my sister and mother dropped the vehicle, it appears he was not sober or on something. Repairs on my vehicle got finished almost at 9pm after dropping it the day before due to some complications. Decided to take the car back as some parts got damaged while replacing others. Smh. But decided to give this shop another chance. Service the second time was horrible, made an appointment for 8am for repairs. They knew what i was going in there for as an estimate was given. Had sister and mother drop car off while they go shopping, repairs would take anywhere from 4-6hrs. Decided to stop by after work since i work near by, to come to find out car was not touched, nothing done. No parts were ordered and had to wait till next day. Talked to the owner/person in charge and he didn't know i had made an appointment with his mechanic a few days before. Mechanic approached me mad and said: now, you're pissing me off and even had the guts to say to take my car somewhere else as owner was standing next to me. (Wow). Owner said nothing about it. With that said, think twice before taking your vehicle to this mechanic. (Favio is the mechanic name) repairs will take a day or 2 days, not for major repairs. read more

I had been searching for a place to do an alignment and tune up on my Civic when I came across Fabio at Beacon. Although they don't do alignments, Fabio was really nice to explain the process to me involved with the tune up. Being that I'm a girl, its hard for me to trust any mechanic let alone let them work on my car knowing I could be completely ripped off. I felt comfortable by reading the other reviews so I decided to go with Beaon. I could tell by Fabio's vibe that he was an honest, knowledgeable and customer service oriented, which is hard to find now a days. What I appreciated about working with their crew was their transparency in what needed to be done every step of the process. Once they finish the initial diagnostic inspection, you will receive a very detailed online report that shows pictures of each component along with their recommendation. I've appreciated the service of this team since they were originally with Meineke. I was struck by how honest they were in their assessments & how they educated me & gave me options when my car needed additional maintenance. I'm a fan of their new system which gives text updates & emailed reports (yay for saving the trees). They even went through the entire report with me on the phone so I could understand how things worked, what things needed maintenance, what things could wait, etc. One thing to note (not a criticism just an FYI): if you're dropping your car off for service, there isn't a waiting area like a lobby, so be sure to have a ride because #COVID, plus it's not good to hang outside with all the smoke due to the fires. My car's check engine light came on and I took it to a local place to have it checked. I was told that my transmission is bad and will need to be replaced with a shock sticker price of $8k!!!. I wanted a second opinion, so I went to Beacon and talked with Flavio, who seemed very knowledgeable and professional from the start. After a couple of hours Flavio called me to say that the only thing that was wrong with the car was dirty transmission fluid, which needed to be flushed. Flavio did not even charge me for the initial diagnostic, which most other shops charge $200-300. Excellent service, professional and honest - something that's hard to find. read more

What amazing customer service and mechanical know-how my girlfriend an I experienced at Beacon Auto Repair in San Mateo! We rolled in off of El Camino with a horrible "screech" and losing power with steam coming up from under the hood on my 2006 Tacoma - and it was almost closing time. Dayum! My Thermostat had become stuck shut between Union City and San Mateo. The water and steam caused a belt to slip - my man Fabio (a top mechanic at that shop) actually took some time before locking up for the night, and actually fixed it enough to get to ger home to Half Moon Bay. We were SO grateful for Fabio's help, and now make the trio to Beacon Auto for routine repairs - and even more tricky service needs like transmission and carb/injector work, electrical troubleshooting, etc. It's not enough these days to have to have a "good" mechanic - so often it's a real tipoff with expensive stuff you don't need.
