This review is long overdue, but I'm so glad I found this place! Moe and Favio go above and beyond for their customers. I appreciate that they always take the time to explain pros/cons of choosing which repairs to do and what they believe to be the root cause of issues (for example, they said my spark plugs misfiring could actually be contributing to an oil leak issue I've had on and off, I had no idea they were related). I've also found their pricing to be reasonable and transparent. They're also just really friendly, whenever they see me topping off my tires at the gas station out front they'll tell me to pull around so they can do it if they're not busy, and they're happy to do a free check-up whenever the check engine light inevitably comes back on in my Honda Accord with ~200k miles to see what the error message is. I originally rated this 5 stars but unfortunately have to drop it to 3 stars. Positives: Mo is friendly, professional, and works with you on price. However, the part replacement job didn't work out, so it ended up just being money down the drain. The car's check engine light turned back on just a few weeks after the repair here, and the next mechanic shop I went to said it looked like a botched job. They also told me they test drove the car to make sure it was running fine, but my car's odometer hadn't changed. I'm not sure how much of this is Beacon Auto Care's issue vs. just my car especially with their other positive reviews, but I saw another review saying this so sharing in case this is helpful. read more

First of all let's start with the exceptional customer service. Not only did they offer the service requested which was breaks and rotors but they also checked my fluids as well. They were really quick to respond and get me a quote for the job I needed done. They also checked to see if they had all the parts before bringing my car in so there would be no surprises once I got there. They asked me when would be good for me I gave them a date range and they told me to bring it in that morning. Once I dropped it off they asked how soon I needed it. Being I would be staying the night in the area I told them to take their time and just text me when it's ready (I love the text updates). That afternoon I got a text when it was ready, went to pick it up. The guy was able to look up my cars history and suggested to me that I probably should get my transmission inspected due to the type of car I have and would get me a Quote, which I appreciate. I usually take my car to the dealer to service my car. But the cost is just too high, so i was looking for an independent car care that could service my car for a more reasonable price. My friends kept telling me about Beacon Auto Care. They took their car to Beacon and were very satisfied with the work they did on their care and how helpful the staff was. I wanted to give them a try, but I live in San Bruno and Beacon is located in San Mateo. My son took his car to Beacon and was very pleased with the work they did on his car and suggested I call them and find out what they would charge me. So I called them and asked what they would charge for everything that the dealer did and was very surprised much lower the cost would be. After getting positive feedback from friends and my son I decided to call Beacon and schedule an appointment. It's been about a week since Beacon serviced my car and I am very satisfied with the work they did. My car is running great and the staff is very helpful. So good bye dealer and hello Beacon. I highly recommend! I was in the area for a day trip when I noticed my engine light was on. Most car repair shops were closed because it was Saturday afternoon. Luckily, Beacon was open and Moe helped me feel at-ease. He told me what had to be replaced and gave me choices of other things that will need attention soon. He gave me a reasonable quote for my choices and said it would be ready on Monday. I had to get a rental car to get home, and I wasn't able to return until Wednesday, but when I returned, it was ready and the finished price stayed the same as the quote. Just picked my 2009 Toyota RAV4 up from Beacon. She had a lot of issues gradually show more and more - noticed lots of squeaking, excess movement when driving over bumps, clicking when accelerating and turning, wobble when breaking, you name it. I knew I needed to find some help, and good help, at that. I researched basically all the auto shops around San Mateo, looking for reliable and trustworthy partners, quality work, and a place that wouldn't break my bank. In the deep research dive, Beacon stood out with clients' positive reviews on price-point, trustworthiness, and service quality. Check, check, and check. I called in on a Tuesday, and Favio set me up with an appointment on Thursday. Their scheduling was flexible and open. My initial ask was for an oil change and to diagnose the noises and driving play. Since I was a first-time client, Favio conducted a full inspection at no charge. After a few hours, they sent a digital Inspection Report which was highly detailed with photos, diagram references, performance ratings for each inspection point, with notes and service recommendations for each point as well. Moe took the time to answer questions I had over the phone, which helped me understand their assessments even better. I ended up approving six services, replacing rear brake rotors and pads, serpentine belt & tensioner replacement, front sway bar link... etc. Beacon was super fair about pricing and they also demonstrated that they really care about their clients, and strive to provide exceptional service and guidance. The guys were accommodating for when I was able to pick my car up, and also flexible for bringing her back the next day to finish the job. They didn't push me to approve all the services, and instead shared their expertise and recommendations. Overall, Moe and Favio remained super communicative, engaging, and professional. After just driving my car home, it's a clear and positive difference from how she was performing before taking her in. No squeaks, drives straight over bumps and when braking, with no extra steering play or movement... no wobbling or clicking or clanking. Just drives like she's brand new. I feel so stress free now, it's like a weight lifted off my shoulders! Moe & Favio really took care of her, and me by extension! I'm relieved to find a high quality place where the guys know their stuff, and give their clients the best service. I came into Beacon Auto Repair recently to inquire about new tires for my 1st Gen Scion xB box and also a noise it was making. I was greeted by Favio and he immediately began to question exactly what was going on in order to help me get down to the bottom of the issue. Favio was SOOO HELPFUL!! Not only was he incredibly responsive, informative, and thorough, but he also went out of his way in communication and time to make sure I had what I needed. I had called at least 5 other shops in the area and he was the one who had the best service. I had a pre-purchase inspection done and it was extremely thorough, including photos of the parts of the vehicle that could use attention and explanations. I spent $3,000 at one of their locations recently. I still have the problem going on with my car. The manager "Favio" says to take it to another shop after taking my money. I emailed the owner and am waiting on his reply. I will update the review once I hear from the owner. Times are very hard because of the pandemic. I hope this issue gets resolved professionally and soon. I am out $3,000 and still have the same issue. My family is going though a very tough time because of this. I have all copies of invoices, replies from the mechanic, and my email to the owner. If I don't get a response I will post it all here and on social media. As well as contact Consumer Affairs, the local Attorney General, and any news establishments that want to hear my story. People deserve honest work done and need to know the truth on how issues like this are resolved, especially during these hard times dealing with pandemic. I hope the owner replies back to me soon. I had been searching for a place to do an alignment and tune up on my Civic when I came across Fabio at Beacon. Although they don't do alignments, Fabio was really nice to explain the process to me involved with the tune up. Being that I'm a girl, its hard for me to trust any mechanic let alone let them work on my car knowing I could be completely ripped off. I felt comfortable by reading the other reviews so I decided to go with Beaon. I could tell by Fabio's vibe that he was an honest, knowledgeable and customer service oriented, which is hard to find now a days. What I appreciated about working with their crew was their transparency in what needed to be done every step of the process. Once they finish the initial diagnostic inspection, you will receive a very detailed online report that shows pictures of each component along with their recommendation. Troy patiently walked through each part of the report and I could decide which part I wanted them to work on. In addition, since I arrived later in the day and it was a larger job than anticipated, the team worked way over time to ensure I got my car on time. I have gotten a few things done at this shop and this is what i have experienced: Owner or person in charge is very nice. The mechanic on the other hand, well there is something going on with him. First time i met him, he was very nice and knowledgeable but when i had my sister and mother dropped the vehicle, it appears he was not sober or on something. Repairs on my vehicle got finished almost at 9pm after dropping it the day before due to some complications. Decided to take the car back as some parts got damaged while replacing others. Smh. But decided to give this shop another chance. Service the second time was horrible, made an appointment for 8am for repairs. They knew what i was going in there for as an estimate was given. Had sister and mother drop car off while they go shopping, repairs would take anywhere from 4-6hrs. Decided to stop by after work since i work near by, to come to find out car was not touched, nothing done. No parts were ordered and had to wait till next day. Talked to the owner/person in charge and he didn't know i had made an appointment with his mechanic a few days before. Mechanic approached me mad and said: now, you're pissing me off and even had the guts to say to take my car somewhere else as owner was standing next to me. (Wow). Owner said nothing about it. With that said, think twice before taking your vehicle to this mechanic. (Favio is the mechanic name) repairs will take a day or 2 days, not for major repairs. read more

I was struck by how honest they were in their assessments & how they educated me & gave me options when my car needed additional maintenance. I'm a fan of their new system which gives text updates & emailed reports (yay for saving the trees). They even went through the entire report with me on the phone so I could understand how things worked, what things needed maintenance, what things could wait, etc. One thing to note (not a criticism just an FYI): if you're dropping your car off for service, there isn't a waiting area like a lobby, so be sure to have a ride because #COVID, plus it's not good to hang outside with all the smoke due to the fires.
