Been coming to Rockport and getting drinks and food at this place for years and have never had a bad experience until today! We ordered two frozen caramel lattes that were delicious, up until we found small sharp pieces of glass/plastic in our mouths after taking a sip(in both drinks). The cafe was happy to give us new drinks, but gave us a small instead of a large when we paid around $7 for each our drinks. A small was around $5. We ended up getting $10 of the $14 we paid, and they were happy to give it back to us. Overall the customer service was great, and always has been great. But finding sharp object in your drink definitely made me never want a drink from there again. Please be aware and look inside your drinks before taking a sip! read more

The Iced White Chocolate Mocha and Americano are both amazing

The Bean & Leaf is one big happy pill. For two reasons. One, there is so much that's surreal about this place. And two, it's a pleasurable experience. What's surreal about it? It's a small cafe in Rockport, Massachusetts but it serves tiramisu that's in the top two tiramisus I've ever had. I wasn't expecting that. What made it even more surreal was that the old dude at the register looked like Gary Busey thirty years from now. He was friendly and mellow, like everyone in Rockport. But my favorite moment was when I told him I wanted the tiramisu to go. He grabbed a clear plastic box and the small glass container containing the tiramisu from the display. I assumed he was going to skilfully transfer the dessert into the plastic box because, I assumed, he'd want to keep his glassware. Nope. He put the glass container straight into the plastic box. This made me incredibly happy because it was so out of left field. I guess he didn't want to ruin the tiramisu's visual appeal. If that was his reasoning, I get it. This was the most beautiful cup of tiramisu I've ever laid eyes on. The zabaglione had been carefully arranged into little peaks before being dusted with cocoa powder, giving the top of the dessert the appearance of a cluster of chocolate mountains. I couldn't wait to dig in. I've had more tiramisus than Kanye has had tantrums and I can spot sloppiness in an instant. Bean & Leaf's tiramisu had none. The zabaglione to savoiardi ratio was perfect. The sweet to cocoa bitter ratio was perfect. Each layer was rich but with its own unique texture. I could taste the coffee in the savoiardi but I couldn't quite tell whether they had also been dipped in brandy. Brandy or cognac are traditionally mixed in with the coffee before the savoiardi are dipped in, but personally, I like when I can't tell if there's any alcohol in there. The hint of mystery makes the dessert more appealing. The amount was perfect too. There's a thin line between enjoying a dessert and self-loathing. There was just enough tiramisu in this cup to bring me to the line before stopping. A word about Bean & Leaf's restroom: It has curtains and decorations that make it look more like a bedroom than a restroom. There are rooms in the Omni Parker House that are less inviting than B&L's john. I would have gone for the complete experience and eaten the tiramisu on the crapper, but I embarrass my girlfriend enough as it is. If you ever find yourself in the rare, unique situation of being in Rockport and needing Valium, go instead to Bean & Leaf, get some tiramisu, wait for your turn on the porcelain throne, and enjoy a quaint, but pleasant, natural buzz. read more

At the recommendation of a friend my boyfriend and I had a late lunch here during the Motif festival last weekend. Unfortunately the weather wasn't particularly cooperating so we were fairly chilled to the bone by the time we ventured inside the cozy little cafe. In an effort to warm ourselves we both ordered steaming hot mugs of Chai Tea Lattes. They were excellent. Just what we needed to clear our frozen heads. Next we each ordered gourmet wraps. My boyfriend had the Curried Chicken salad while I had the Caprese. The Caprese was served on a fresh spinach wrap with tomatoes, mozzarella, mesclun greens and a tasty pesto sauce. I was so hungry that if I could have arranged to have my jaw open on a hinge and stuff the entire hearty sandwich inside I would have. I'm glad that I didn't though because I would have missed out on all of those great flavors. The wrap is served with a small bag of my favorite local Cape Cod Potato Chips and we split a scrumptious cookie that I believe was some sort of spiced oatmeal, white chocolate, cranberry concoction with a hint of orange. I'm just dying to recreate them at home. While we were eating in the small sitting area we enjoyed a lovely view of the tide. It's a bit cramped back there but I was grateful to have a place to sit down for a few moments after all of our sightseeing. The staff was unfailingly friendly and really one of the few drawbacks that I can think of is the fact that they don't accept credit cards. We had to skip over to a nearby ATM before ordering. If I'm ever in the Rockport area I will absolutely eat here again and recommend that you do the same. read more

Stopped by the Bean & Leaf Cafe a few weeks ago during a day trip to Rockport. It was the perfect place to escape from the cold on a chilly winter day. Because most restaurants/cafes in the area are closed during the winter season, I can definitely appreciate the fact that the Bean & Leaf Cafe is open year round. The location is great! As the cafe is right on the beach, they have a gorgeous view of the water from the back sitting area. It's a super relaxed and cozy atmosphere. I could've sat by the windows and stared out at the picturesque view all day. I was a little disappointed by what I ordered. I got a cappuccino, and it had way too much milk in it. I could barely taste the espresso. I also got a bowl of clam chowder, and was unimpressed by how overly thick the soup was. Meh, I've had so much better... I wish I had gotten a sandwich or a wrap instead. I did order a pastry that was on display, and it tasted great, so maybe I just ordered the wrong things from the menu? If I'm in the area, I wouldn't mind stopping by Bean & Leaf Cafe again for the atmosphere, but I probably would stay away from their cafe drinks and stick to something basic, like hot tea or a cookie. My daughter and I stopped into Bean and Leaf Cafe both mornings of our Rockport vacation and were met with yummy food/drinks and friendly service both days. The second day we sat in their outdoor seating area to enjoy our breakfast and it was delightful. The croissant, lavender lemonade, and bagel were delicious. The egg and bacon sandwich was just okay. Wife had a mocha outstanding pop of chocolate at the start and not sweet it was wonderful , I had a cappachino that I truly enjoyed it was cold out and we had been walking it really warmed is both up. Next we had the clam chowder . It had a wonderful aroma and had a mild clam flavor I like , some can over power you with a bold clam flavor that I do not like . It also had a great creaminess to it . I had one bowl full but could of Easley had another . The wait staff was very pleasant and brought our food to our table . The view of the harbor was spectacular. Hidden gem! This place has a fabulous view at a fraction of the cost of local restaurants. Although seating is limited, both times that I visited there were open tables. The folks behind the counter were friendly and helpful with checking ingredients, and my chicken curry wrap and soy chai latte were both lovely on a warm summer day. The decor was bright, airy, and a mix of cheery and relaxing. Next to the view, my favorite feature had to be...wait for it...*the bathroom.* I'm pregnant and visiting restrooms quite frequently these days. Bean & Leaf's bathroom looks like it was newly remodeled and had lovely scented soap to boot. In Rockport's tourist area, public bathrooms are scarce while "restrooms for customers only" signs are plentiful for those you do find. It was such a nice surprise to find such a clean, upscale commode in such a conveniently located spot. FYI, for those who are desperate to locate a WC, there's a port-o-potty out on the wharf/pier thing around the bend to the left (past where the leather store is.) read more

Really great coffee shop in Rockport. My daughter had a BLT wrap and it was phenomenal. Stuffed with perfectly cooked bacon and a nice lettuce mix, not iceberg. My extra hot latter was actually extra hot! Most Seattle-based coffee chains serve luke warm, overpriced crap but this latte was excellent. I'd be here every day if I lived closer. This is one of our favorite places to just sit, relax, and engage in witty bantering while enjoying a large mug of the best hot cocoa on Earth with delicious treats. The best tiramisu to be found in the USA is here. Big window with a view of a sort of mini-harbor filled with small sailboats and large ducks. The staff is very polite, friendly, and helpful. There are not many chairs and even fewer tables, but since most folks are here for only a snack and a cup, the tables free up pretty quickly. Even if you take your drink and snack to go, the food and drink is still fabulous while sitting on a rock by the breakwater or whilst walking around taking in the sights. We discovered Bean and Leaf during our first visit to Rockport a year ago, when my wife mentioned wanting to visit New England again this fall and make another stay in Rockport, my brain was immediately electrified by memories of their most excellent deserts and drinks. I am pleased to say that after visiting Bean and Leaf again this fall, I can say that the experience was every bit as great as I remember it from last year! Go there! Location is amazing, Pastries LOOKED great. This review gets 4 stars b/c the Sausage, Egg and Cheese on the Croissant was amazing!! They ran out of Croissants by 8:30 am and I can see why. I bought the last one went back for another 750 calories of pure goodness. I got two lattes (vanilla and mocha) and they were almost undrinkable. Waaaaay too much milk/sugar to coffee ratio, it was like a tall glass of warm milk with two shots of espresso. Neither my wife or I could finish it and I have never seen a cup of coffee go to waste around these parts... Again, views and location are awesome. Wraps looked good. "Once it hits your lips, it's so good." (To quote a popular, yet, somewhat obnoxious Will Ferrell movie in reference to the espresso at The Bean & Leaf Cafe) I'm a coffee lover. I was born in New York and one thing Bostonians and New Yorkers have in common, whether they would admit to it or not, is they love their coffee. In New York, there are hundreds of places and although I've discovered just how much Bostonians love their Dunkin' Donuts, Bostonians have their fair share of artsy, independent, whole-in-the-wall coffee shops. I've made a point to check out all of the coffee shops on the North Shore area, where my grad school is located. Some reviewers might not agree with this statement, but I'm going to make it nonetheless, "The Bean & Leaf Cafe in Rockport, MA, has the best espresso and is the best coffee shop on the North Shore." There, it's been said. Some of you coffee loving people might fight me for saying that, but I'll hold to it. The location of this coffee shop is key. It is smack in the middle of the most touristy location on the North Shore, and gets tons of business from tourists in the Summer because of it. It is located on a stretch of land called Bearskin Neck. And if that's not intriguing enough, it overlooks the ocean. The coffee shop is small as every shop on Bearskin Neck is small and crammed together in much of the small European country town fashion. Their whole bean coffee is not super, but their espresso is what bring me back. Their espresso is so good, it's like a drug and makes Starbucks look like a cheap hooker. Some might say that about Starbucks anyway, but you get my point. They use a La Marzocca espresso machine and manually grind the espresso beans. There is dining area with some bay style windows overlooking the ocean, well, an inlet more or less. It is a beautiful view, and the espresso adds to the sight. This place doesn't boast the typical artsy coffee culture atmosphere that many are familiar with in big cities, but they let their unique location and their amazing espresso speak for themselves. I love this place, and recommend that everyone check this place out. If you aren't as much a fan of the espresso which would not be likely than you can always check out the amazing view. read more

We needed a caffeine hit and thankfully Bean & Leaf was there to provide it. The barrista was friendly & fast -- both traits were very appreciated. My iced Americano was weaker than Mr Bethany's iced latte but I think I was a bit heavy handed with the 1/2 & 1/2...so no stars lost there :) I wish we had known that we could have had lunch & a view there. The curried chicken soup smelled SO good!! Also heard a guy order a sparkling water w/ 3 pumps of raspberry syrup to create an instant soda! I found this spot on Yelp and decided to take a day trip from Boston. I needed to "get out of the box" and away from the congestion of city life in order to be productive & work on a business project. This was just the spot. My previously stifled creativity was reawakened at a cozy corner table with a pretty view of the water. My roast beef sandwich was delish, my latte just right (love the big cup!) & iced tea was the perfect finish to a long work day. I met the owners father. Very nice guy. We tried this place on a trip to Rockport. Really seemed like our kind of place - cute little seating area in the back overlooking the water. BTW - we got there early for lunch and had no problem sitting but quickly there were a lot of people waiting for one of the few tables and two of them were taken up by clueless single people computing who had clearly been settled there for a long time had finished their coffees and were just taking up space. Perhaps a gently nudge by employees at peak times? Anyway we each got a wrap and they were just okay. Really disappointing because they both sounded likely they would be yummy. On the bright side my husband loved his iced coffee drink - I think it was about $5 so he should have! Wouldn't go here again. read more

This cafe is a destination. I occasionally drive to Rockport from Somerville (45 minutes-ish) just to come to this place, mostly for the view. There are six tables total and the small sitting room can fit about 20 people. The entire room is walled by windows, which look out onto a pier and bay. It's the best view of any establishment that you can sit and relax in this entire area (there are restaurants with better views but obviously you have to leave those after you're done eating. You can camp out at this place for hours in the off season.) Food: Pretty good. Wraps, salads, and a couple soups. Totally overpriced, for instance $8.95 for a piece of quiche. You are paying for the view. Coffee: Good. Typical barista prices, Crowding: Unbearable in summer. Don't plan on getting a seat. At that time of year, you can enjoy the view face-to-face anyway. This is a cold-weather destination. WiFi: Free. I'm using it right now! read more

Gourmet coffee and tea doesn't tell the half of it... After a long day of touring around Rockport, I needed some fuel for the drive home. Located along Bearskin Neck, you get a nice peaceful view of the harbor as you sip your drink. I opted for the frozen caramel latte drink. It was sweet, potent, and refreshing. Totally gourmet and completely addictive. My wife got the blueberry hibiscus iced tea which was also fantastic. Our little one had the PB and Jelly wrap which was just ok. The peanut butter was not great and it was very messy (the latter we totally expected). My wife and I grabbed another couple of iced teas for the road. The pomegranate green tea was perfect. This a great spot for cup of whatever fuels you. read more

Excellent cafe- we go there every time we visit Rockport. For vegetarians, I recommend the hummus wrap. The place is decorated in soothing colors, creating a lovely atmosphere. The back room has most of the seating, with a beautiful view of the bay. Seating is very tight, but it's understandable considering the small space that they have to work with. This place really stuck me as a coffee house to just hang around in. The rear seating area does not hold a lot of people, nor is there much of a view. However, the staff and goods are what makes being there really enjoyable. The selection of baked goods the day I was there seemed to have run out. Then I did show up "late" on Sunday. It was 11am. We tried the Hot Chocolate, pumpkin spiced whoopie pie and a latte. Everything went quickly. Not a complaint was heard at all. Be careful of the entry steps. There are only a few of them. They are just very big steps. Once inside the location of the service counter can choke up the flow from the back to the front and the sugar counter. I could see this layout being done differently to make people move around easier during those morning runs of coffee when you can hardly think due to lack of caffine. Hey, lots of coffee places do this. Confuse the deprived customer. This is why you need to hang out. You find it difficult to make it in and then back out due to the bottle neck at the service counter. I liked the latte and the whoopie pie. I do plan to try more of their regular coffee selections as time goes on. read more

Went here last weekend while hanging out in Rockport on Saturday. I was meeting up with friends on a scooter ride but got there an hour before they did. It was brutally hot, especially wearing full riding gear. So to kill time I wanted a nice cold drink while window shopping. I got one of their large home made ice tea drinks - very good! The girls working behind the counter were friendly and sweet. It took a few minutes for the tea to be ready so I just used the bathroom and talked to random tourists while waiting. I didn't get any food but I did see they had a vegan option - the hummus veggie wrap. I was waiting for my friends to arrive to have lunch, which is why I only got a tea here. There are yummy looking baked goods available but nothing was vegan so I skipped that too. The place was crazy crowded with all the Rockport tourists needing a break from the hot weather and sun. I had my helmet, jacket, and bag with me and had a hard time putting it down in order to pay/get my drink. There isn't much room for resting anything on. Fortunately some nice tourists let me use their table for a bit for my stuff while I went to the bathroom. I'm sure I'll be back here next time I'm in the area. read more

Excellent coffee and desserts. Sandwiches that I've had were nothing special. Standard coffee house fare, I suppose. The view from the sitting area out back is excellent. They're open rain or shine (or snow) and this is a great place to sit with your laptop or newspaper on a snowy day and watch the tide come in. Prices are equal to what FourBucks charges. No plastic accepted, which is just ridiculous. I am tired of places that don't take electronic transactions. Staff is courteous and prompt. read more

Yummy coffee, sandwiches and other treats make this a go to when I am in Rockport. The coffee is excellent and they have a variety of specialty beverages available in both hot and cold varieties and the staff is always very pleasant. The downside is that it is a bit more expensive then the other coffee shops on the Neck and the portions don't really make up for the difference. Still a great place though! read more

We stopped in to get a quick treat cause it got a little chilly when we visited Rockport. I got the mocha-chino and the Tiramisu, which was really good. I wasn't sure how long it was sitting on the display, but it was really really good. It was on the pricier side, think of Starbucks for this little town. They had all the standard coffee options and some treats, but I didn't get to try them. They have very very limited seating in the back, with a great view, so don't plan on bringing the whole crew here, rather grab your treats and walk down the street to the lookout point to finish your beverage. read more
