I have been coming to The Bean and Leaf Cafe year round since it first opened in 2003. It really has a nice feel to it. It is really cool looking on the inside. The view is outstanding with the very large picture windows. You will be hooked from the first time that you walk in here......just like I was back in 2003. What a waste of money What we had ,Watery coffee with no taste for my black coffee and my wife's iced latte was full of milk, probably powdered milk. My husband and I stopped in yesterday for our first time. My new favorite place in the area. We both got a wrap, I had the BLT and he had the turkey, they were delicious . We sat in the back room which overlooks the water. We stopped in again today for breakfast sandwiches and some pastry, again they did not disappoint. The Bean and Leaf is a fairly new place and family owned and run for the most part. Definitely a nice change to the other businesses that capitalize more on the 'Rockport' theme. It has more of an earthy crunchy feel to it and offers lovely pastries. They also have sandwiches/wraps, bagels with assorted cream cheese, and lots of different coffee choices. I'm not a coffee drinker, but i've gone with friends who are and they've always been pleased. Atmosphere is small but very airy and nice, with windows overlooking the back harbor and comfy chairs to sit and read if you want. Good coffee in a tourist town isn't something you can count on. Bean and Leaf offers it. Traditional filter brewed coffee and espresso based drinks made carefully and with attention to the environment. (I've heard the owner is careful about environmentallly friendly supplies AND merchandise) There are usually several varieties of 'filter coffee' available and the usual array of espresso based drinks. I've had both and recommend the french roast and the non-fat mocha. I usually take my coffee to-go and love the post consumer crafted cups. There is an amazing view which if I get there early enough I hope to enjoy at some point. It does get crowded though. When it does I am still in and out in no time. The staff are friendly and efficient...no lolly-gagging. ;) Yes, I said lolly-gagging. Don't you hate waiting for your coffee because hipster #2 is distracted while telling slacker #1 about last night's party? This doesn't happen at the Bean and Leaf. They also carry sweets and sandwiches. I've only ever had a chocolate chip cookie (a surprise courtesy of my friend Mikey D) which was nice sized, super chocolately and m-o-i-s-t !!!! Parking is by meter on the street....50 per hour for up to 5 hours. Best deal in town! Prices for coffee are about average. read more

The Yelp sticker on the door got our attention today when most restaurants on Bearskin Neck were closed for the season. I had a roasted beet salad with pecans, greens, and pickled red onion and just a hint of cumin that made me sit up and take notice. My daughter ate her caprese wrap so fast that I barely saw it - a good sign. Iced tea for me + something warm 'n frothy for her + water views = refreshed and ready to amble up the hill for some fudge at Tuck's. Seating is a little cramped with all the cafe tables and chairs in the back room, The bar seats in front that look out onto the street may be a better bet for privacy and leg-stretchability. read more

Indeed, coffee should be black as hell, strong as death, and sweet as love. So says the banner that features this Turkish proverb in this delightful cafe. I stopped by to grab a strong cup of joe and to do an assignment that ended up taking me hours. The staff were so helpful and kind; they let me stay for a long time and did not make me feel like I was taking up space by doing work. I highly recommend their hazelnut blend, the honey ham wrap, and the cinnamon rolls. I'm not a coffee snob, but I do know good coffee when I taste it. Their hazelnut blend is bomb. You'll find this gem snuggled in with other boutiques and restaurants. Come alone or with friends and sit down with a drink and enjoy the harbor view. I fell in love on an overcast day so I can only imagine how much more I would love being there on a sunny day or during a sunset or snowfall. Seriously, big windows is where it's at y'all. read more

I have been visiting Rockport for several years and my goto place for Coffee and food is always Bean and Leaf. I have found the quality of service and food/coffee to be consistently wonderful. This is a very nice little café with really good food. I had a Meditteranian wrap, absolutely wonderful. As was the warm quiche. Friends had soups and salads and they all commented how tasty they were. The place has a small eating area with 6 tables that overlook the harbor, a very pleasant background during lunch. Anyone in New England can attest to the fact it has been a wet, dreary spring and "summer" (I refuse to call it summer until we have a couple days of sun). I ended up in Rockport visiting friends on their vacation. The Bean and Leaf Cafe was the perfect oasis to our rainy day. I had a wonderful cup of green tea. They had over 20 varieties of tea which is pretty sweet as a tea lover. It was the perfect way to warm up and get out of the chilly, humid weather. Our table overlooked the ocean so it was like having the best of both worlds. A cup of tea, protection from the elements and the sea. Also, they have a bathroom which I really appreciate. I'm not sure why any place that serves a warm beverage with caffeine in it, wouldn't also have a bathroom for customers? It's like they're waiting for accidents to happen... YUCK! This place was recommended by Rockport Inn and Suites and I have no idea why. I ordered two roast beef wraps which came with very little roast beef, no boursin, and a lot of salad with some sort of sweet and sour sauce on the way too much lettuce. Yuck! I was shorted a potato chip (which came with the sandwich - two sandwiches). I also got a piece of lemon sour cream coffee cake which was so sweet it was not edible. I was getting takeout. I am handicapped and need handicapped parking. There is no parking. The space cadets working there have no sense of time or space or reality. Dumber than dumb. I would never go back. You know you've hit the jackpot when you walk in early on a weekday morning and find several friendly locals enjoying their coffee. We wandered into Bean & Leaf after watching the sunrise out on the jetty and we were so glad we did. The coffee was excellent as was the view, the barista and the local company. I work on Bearskin Neck a couple of days a week and usually grab lunch here. The food is rather good, but I do get sort of bitter over having to pay tourist prices for lunch -- but that's entirely my own fault for not bringing my own lunch when working in a touristy area! Full coffee drinks selection, Republic of Tea teas, and a display case full of sweet tasty pastries. The wraps and salads are quite good as well, and they have a small amount of seating in the back of the shop with a great harbor view. I'm really happy to still have a independent coffee shop down the street -- it's not the 1369 but it's something, and something decent at that. read more

This is such a cute place, and their coffee and treats were very yummy (I got the raspberry shortbread). However, the service was terrible. I went in with some friends on a pretty busy Saturday afternoon and had such a bad experience. The girls working there were incredibly unprofessional, I ordered two different kinds of coffee, and as they were serving both of them they realized that they were out. They were not very apologetic, and I decided not to get any coffee. As we were paying, their card reader (it was an iPod touch) died and we had to wait for more than 10 minutes for it to turn. They just kept laughing at how we were having the worst experience, first no coffee and now we couldn't pay. It was very unprofessional. Eventually, after probably 15 minutes, and with more than 10 customers behind us, they took down our credit card number and let us go. read more

Go here for breakfast most days when we come here to Rockport on our vacation week. Is a very clean place with many good options for any meal of the day. I really like their muffins and bagels and their smoothies and hot chocolate. My only complaint is their smoothies are made with ice cream instead of the healthier yogurt which would be preferable. Has a great view of the harbor and a nice little versatile spot overall. read more
