Coming from San Jose, there is nothing like this in San Jose! We didn't experience the long wait times like other people had. We came on a Saturday at 11:40. I love the kids meals and the atmosphere was awesome. We ordered the the the tidy bitsy biter for our daughter, the purple gurgle for me as well as the pepperoni wazzle. The wazzle was organic and gluten free as well as organic pepperoni. The utensils were all compostable and everything was made fresh. Super excited to see good food at a children's museum as opposed to frozen processed stuff we have in San Jose. I'll also add that it was expensive but it was the $16 (bento box + drink) that you'll pay at Bumble in Los Altos (which I also seriously love but hate the price). read more

We usually bring our own lunch to the discovery museum, but every now and then we come to the cafe. And while I do think it's a bit over-priced, we've always had great service and nutritious food. And I actually quite like the pizza and the sunflower butter and jelly sandwich... And I'm an adult! I wish the prices were a bit lower but I appreciate the philosophy of using organic and real ingredients. This isn't some fine dining experience, but for a kids museum cafe I think it's great! I've been meaning to write this for a while...and I have given it a few tries but the new Cafe at the Discovery Museum is SOOO MUCH worse than the old cafe (which wasn't great but now as I look back I wish it was still there)... the new employees are unattentive, slow and not very helpful. Twice the employees were busy talking to each other while only one or two people were waiting in line... the service was very slow both to place and order and then to wait for food. When you are serving kids, time is of the essence. More importantly, the food is downright inedible. The guacamole only comes with barely a handful of waffle chips...and the waffle chips are so hard and stale tasting that I cannot even bite into them - let alone my toddler... Everything is so gimmicky which would be fine if it tasted ok but everything tasted bad (bland, or bad texture) The baked chickpeas snack tasted stale and were hard... the "pizza" is only served on those horrible hard waffles... and to top it all off, the prices aren't exactly low either. I could go on and on... I'm just wondering if anyone else has noticed too. The Discovery Museum is one of my favorite places to bring my child but now it's a little bit more of a burden since I have to pack all of our own food. I miss the old no frills cafe...with good old fashioned sandwiches, soy and regular milk offerings for the kids. And my opinion is based on 3 attempts to eat there... the final straw was when I went in to buy a bottle of water and they don't sell bottled water - only free water out of pitchers (which would be great except they only offer mini-Dixie size paper cups that maybe hold 2 oz. of water. Short of standing there and drinking 5 mini cups of water...I would just like to be able to have the choice to buy a bottle of water to take with me. I hope someone at the Discovery Museum reads these reviews and is taking notes. read more

The soups were not great and so where the sandwiches. The bread was dry mostly and not very flavorful. The Mediterranean salad was one of the better dishes. The pizza on a waffle dough was an absolute disaster. read more

So this place only alive because no other choice here but the worst food and near worst service. Service Slow counter and often times just untrained Got a latte today and she started filling it with brewed. Then I went I got latte and oh yeah. No training to use machine and when the latte didn't get to the top ( ie not enough milk) and lazy to refill she just poured regular brew coffe to top it off. Wtf. Food. Is pretty bad Waffle pizza sounds tempting until you taste it. Got a pepperoni and mushroom and was more like dried salt. Ice cream probably the only good thinknf there. I am going to upgrade a star for sheer customer service alone. Since my original review I have been contacted by two members of the upper management team at Bean Sprouts Cafe and Cooking School regarding my experience. They show concern and have a "we can make this right" attitude that is very impressive. My family and I will be visiting the Bean Sprouts Cafe at the Discovery Cube near our home in the near future to give them a second chance and I hope to update with more stars. read more

In concept this place is great. Healthy, organic choices for you and the kiddos. Most of the stuff I have tried here though is bland. They need to put as much focus on the taste as they do on the cutesy presentation. Prices are a little high, but I guess expected in a museum setting. Can't understand why the other reviews are so poor. We (4 adults and a 2yr old) had a wonderful experience with our family. We were there on 1/29 and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The staff was very friendly and helpful. All of us enjoyed the food. Pizzas were tasty and filling-loved the waffle crusts! We especially enjoyed the 'chic choc' strawberries with chocolate dip. We were there on our grandson's second birthday, so they gave him a 'birthday cheer'. (Somewhat loud for a quiet kid, but well meaning, none the less). Staff was quite enthusiastic about their jobs and their customers. Can't think of anything negative to say. I even purchased one of their cookbooks and look forward to using it to plan for grandson's party this weekend! read more

The food at Bean Sprouts is awful and overpriced! Incredibly small portions for the price (I appreciate the small portions, but they need to be priced appropriately!) The food is touted as 'healthy,' but it's not really-- still very few options for my GF boys, and the few that they have are priced at $1.00 extra just to have GF sandwich bread (if they're using Organic Whole Wheat Bread for the regular sandwiches, I don't see how Conventional Gluten Free Bread is that much more expensive--it's not). Charging customers that much more for GF bread is excessive and discriminatory...it's not like we have a choice! GF bread is NOT more expensive than Organic Wheat bread, and it's certainly not $1.00 more per sandwich. Imagine my disappointment to see the Bean Sprouts Cafe at the Chabot Space and Science Center, too. We'll be bringing out lunch to Discovery and Chabot from now on. (First time ever negative yelp review--I've never been so incensed to write something until now.) read more

We took the twins on a family outing along with Grandma and Grandpa. I'm so worn down by places with nacho cheese sauce. This restaurant is so much better than many of the others in museums and kids places in the Bay Area. I actually went twice. Once for a latte and again with everyone for lunch. My daughter had a spider shaped sandwich, the only time I've ever seen her eat hummus. My son had a sandwich that looked like a piano. Grandma and Grandpa split a vegetable pizza and artichoke salad. And I had a great hot chicken sandwich with pesto. We also had some Three Twins ice cream, our favorite. The staff was really friendly and good with kids. They even have a small counter so my twins could see the countertop menu. So fun and delicious! read more

My son's birthday is a week before Christmas! He turned 9 and we decided to have a bunch of boys over during the week after school and Bean Sprouts came through for us with a ton of cooking fun! What a fun spot to come to for lunch and complement our visit to the Discovery Museum! The service is friendly, the ambience is super kid-friendly and fun, and there are lots of healthy, good choices for everyone. Our group of 4 - two adults and two kids arrived around 11:45 on a Monday morning. My advice: Do come before noon to avoid lines! We ordered a Chicken Pesto Sandwich (hot), a Pepper Jack Stack (hot), a grilled cheese sandwich, and a pepperoni pizza. All three sandwiches were very good (a special thumbs up for the Chicken Pesto and Pepper Jack Stack- the grilled cheese was pretty basic, but enjoyed by our son with the accompanying applesauce), and so was the pepperoni pizza. All seemed like very healthy choices too - made with quality ingredients. Though the prices are not cheap (the chicken pesto and pepper jack stack are around $10) - the convenience of cooked to order good, healthy food at a museum is worth it - we'll take it! I wanted to check in and update my review. I decided to give Bean Sprouts another try and was pleasantly surprised. The menu had changed and the food was much better. Since then, I have frequently visited with my children and we have enjoyed the food. I especially like the pesto chango sandwich. I appreciate the healthy side salad, too. My kids love the pizza. We had the opportunity to visit Bean Sprouts about a month after they opened. My family was hungry, and grumpy, and we didn't show up to the cafe until it was just about closing time, not to mention, I was having a mommy meltdown and an injured child on my hands! Needless to say, Bean Sprouts was exactly what the doctor ordered! The staff was very attentive, kind, and helpful. The cafe is small, and cheerily decorated with their Bean celebs on the wall, and a gorgeous view out the window of the Golden Gate Bridge! We brought our food outside to eat when it came, to enjoy the view. We ordered wazzles, and ice cream...give me calories, PLEASE! Thank goodness for the Wazzles...YUM! Gluten free waffle with yummy organic pepperoni on top...my husband wolfed his down, and we were all happy! I think the wazzles were about $7 or so...a full meal for a hungry adult, And Daddy never even knew it was gluten free...love that. The Imaginibbles menu for kids is very fun and inviting, and tasty! The Isty Bitsy Biter is a fun snack sandwich with hummus, pepperoni, or not, carrots for legs, and olives for eyes. Clever. I was so excited that they served the mini Three Twins ice creams in three flavors, vanilla, salted caramel, and chocolate...$3 bucks a piece...pretty reasonable. This is the best ice cream, and LOCAL! I appreciate that they have gone out of their way to find the best local treats, and breads for their cafe.The injured 5 year old who wouldn't do anything but look sad, ate up her ice cream in no time...I had a smoothie,, the Green Gazoogle...yum, and my kiddo had some too, and loved it. The other thing I appreciated on our outing to Bean Sprouts, was that with so many allergies and intolerances in the world of food...and in our family, I felt that it was safe to eat there, and when I asked if something had nuts, the staff was absolutely respectful and knowledgable about the ingredients. Yahoo! Finally! The only bad part about it was that we didn't get to try more off the menu due to our chaotic hurricane of a family that day...but I can't wait to go back to try the chicken pesto sandwich, which is nut-free, the Crocamole...half shell of avocado, stuffed with hummus, avocado, and looks like a croc, and maybe another wazzle because we always appreciate a yummy pizza in this family...must be the Italian blood! My 4 year old and I are loving this class! Danielle has great energy that the kids love. She keeps the cooking simple for the little ones, while at the same time, they are really having fun. I really wanted to like this cafe. But, I could not find anything on the menu that I actually wanted to eat (as an adult.) I miss the old cafe that was at the Discovery Museum before this one. They had great food. The Bean Sprouts food may be organic, but it really doesn't taste very good. It's also a very long wait to get the food. I went in around 3 pm, and was the only one there. And it just took them a really long time to make the food. Thank goodness my kid was off with the other parent playing and not standing by my side all cranky and hungary, because that would have been miserable. The food is also insanely over-priced for what it is, more-so than the previous cafe that was there. read more

Really bad, overpriced food and horrible service. Last time I was there it took literally 40 MINUTES to get my sandwich and pizza (which, for some strange reason, is on a waffle). I really don't know what the Discovery management was thinking by switching the old cafe out for this disaster. Seriously. Bring back the old cafe! read more
