I'd suggest skipping this kitchen unless you're only coming for ice cream. The wait is LONG. I waited about 40 minutes for two sandwiches and two coffees. My husband's latte was good. My hot, drip coffee came cold. They made the ice creams as soon as you ordered them. So, perhaps, stick with ready made drinks/prepackaged snacks and the ice cream. read more

Loved being able to order a latte while I enjoyed the view with my baby. $6 for a latte may feel steep but it was big enough for hubby and I to share. Came back later for lunch. Good: Food tastes good Friendly staff Bad: Extremely slow service. Took 35 minutes from getting in line till we got our food. The line was only 5-10 feet out the door. Small portion sizes. My 73 year old mom even complained about it. The chicken salad sandwich had about 2 tablespoons on each half. I finished my kids grilled cheese and their leftovers felt more substantial than the chicken salad sandwich. Advise to future customers: get there around 11:30. Cute little cafe at The Bay Area Discovery Museum. I like it because they have healthy options... not only are they enriching minds through play, but they are nourishing minds and tummies through whole, organic, healthy foods, as well... and they have a tiny little something for every body. Everything that we have had here is good. It's mostly your kiddie staples; sandwiches, PB&J, pizza, quesadillas, tots, fruit smoothies, etc. They have coffee, which is obviously a saving grace for us parents! My only suggestion: I feel like they could stand to add a teensy bit more variety and they would be *chefs kiss*. read more

I had a really bad experience over there yesterday. I ordered a latte and after waiting for it for a long time it came with no coffee (it was super light color and tested like pure milk) I explained it to Samantha and asked her to put some in it for me, and she simply told me that I would have to pay extra for it. I had already paid for my coffee that you forgot to put!!!! After a long time talking, she simply got the OLD leftover coffee from a cup in the machine and poured inside mine. I felt so humiliated! After all denied to call the manager for me. It's humble to admit you make mistakes!! I understand the store was busy but I paid for my latte and just wanted to have it. As an immigrant, I always thought I could be discriminated against one day for any reason but 'not having a child'! I was on a road trip and my blood pressure fell. I needed to drink something to bring it back up. The only cafe in the area was this place according to my maps application. So I decided to give it a shot. We had lunch here during our visit at the Bay Area Discovery Museum. They had a simple menu, which catered more to the kids than the parents. My toddlers were attracted to the themed sandwiches (i.e. Butterfly sandwich, Alligator sandwich, etc.) We ordered a Turkey Sandwich, Soup, Artichoke Chicken Pizza, and beverages. I appreciate that they are offering healthy options. But I was hoping for a richer flavor. The menu items were a little pricey. This is expected when you're in a museum or themed park. We were pretty appalled by the inattentive and unprofessional conduct of the cashier. We wanted to beat the lunch crowd so came into the cafe at 10:50 in the morning and no other customers were inside. To start, I noticed that the cashier was extremely rude when taking our order, as if she were bored and impatient and wasn't really paying attention to what I was ordering. Regardless, we ordered four chicken pesto sandwiches and two quesadillas and then sat on a bench next to the pickup counter to wait for our order. We waited until 11:20 (by which point there was a huge line and numerous people who ordered after us had picked up their food) and then finally asked about our order. Apparently, the two turkey sandwiches and two quesadillas (which is NOT what we ordered) sitting at the counter top for some time turned out to be ours. I only discovered this after pulling up the receipt emailed to myself and saw that the inattentive cashier had charged us for two turkey sandwiches instead of four chicken pesto sandwiches. So when I told her the problem, she didn't apologize, didn't make eye contact, and said in a bored manner she'll get us two chicken sandwiches. So I told her no, we want four chicken sandwiches, two quesadillas and no turkey sandwich at all. I told her she needs to charge me for two more chicken sandwiches which she failed to do so the first time around. So I paid for two more sandwiches and waited for our food. And out comes only two chicken sandwiches alongside with the previous two turkey sandwiches. I had lost my patience by this point as it was almost noon. We ended up having to wait AGAIN for the other two chicken sandwiches and ultimately wasting over an hour waiting for 4 sandwiches and 2 quesadillas because the cashier could not be bothered to listen to our order. The food is good, I like all of the salads and the sandwiches but they are a bit steep $8- $10 for average to small portion. The kids options are fun and simple, $5. If you order a hot drink like a latte or a chai the large comes in a small cup filled 3/4 for a whopping $5. If you tip the staff will hoot. read more

The food here was actually really good considering and the employees are really nice. Cheese Pizza: Pretty basic pizza, how can you go wrong with pizza for the kiddos right. Chicken Pesto Chango: Chicken, mozzarella, sun dried tomatoes, pesto sauce and balsamic vinaigrette on a ciabatta roll. With a side of greens with yummy vinaigrette. This was my 8 year old's favorite. Pepper Jack Stack: Turkey, pepperjack, roasted red peppers and olives on a ciabatta roll. With a side of greens with yummy vinaigrette. While my friend was watching my son I went to the Bean Sprout to buy a cup of fruit. So I grabbed it out of refrigerator and stood at the counter for few minute waiting for someone to ring me up. Finally young lady came up and scanned the fruit cup. " Leave me my tip, sign and you are all set". So I bought 4oz of fruit for $3.50 and I have to leave tip because she came over to ring me up. Ok, so I signed my electric receipt on the tablet, and was gonna give her change that was sitting in my purse. While I was looking for tip money, lady looked on the screen and with some very bad attitude asked me " You are not going to leave me tip today???" I froze for a second, I couldn't believe she is demanding tip for ringing up 4oz of fruit for $3.50. Usually kid-places, museums, and amusement parks have an on-site cafe type thing that is lackluster. Bean Sprouts is this for the Bay Area Discovery Museum is not that bad. Small consumable selection of stuff for people, like us, who either didn't plan ahead or need to supplement foodstuffs for whatever reason. Menu includes lattes, tea, safe-nut and jelly sandwiches, pretty alright salads, and some kind of healthy-ish tater tot thingies. We shared some sort of meat sandwich (these are regular people sized sandwiches that are meant to be finished, not like Ike's sized meal torpedoes.) The sandwich bread (some sort of fresh ciabatta roll) was AMAZING and I could not stop talking about hours later. In short, don't expect massively American-sized food. This is decent just enough food - which is great because if you're here, you're really not in a position to be walking around with leftovers. read more

More sunflower butter needed on the sandwich though. :) Museum needs to power wash the covered picnic area and screen it in maybe? Bird crap all over the benches and concrete under them. A bird pooped on my kid's wrist while eating then my son dropped his sippy cup, picked it up, bird poop on it. Just gross. I know, its nature ... we had to eat outside, but those birds are aggressive, hangry, and dirty. I'm on my third child, so I've seen a lot of cafes come and go at BADM (which is a God-send for ANY parent!) I've read the reviews here and I've got to say, I think some of them are a little over-dramatic and harsh. Personally, I'm holding out hope for Bean Sprouts. Such an awesome, awesome concept. I've only been there once, so I may not have the most well-curated review here, but ... When I did go, all three of my children were completely psyched by the menu. They couldn't wait to eat there because they were fascinated by the pictures on the menu. We had the Whoopsie Daisy, Do-Re-for-Me and the pepperoni pizza. I had a tomato soup (I think.) All 3 kids ate ALL of their food, which is ... well, it just never happens. There's always at least one complainer. My soup was good, not the best thing I've ever had, but perfectly fine for the day. I just wanted the kids to eat. Yes, the prices are a little steep for what you're getting. I'm not sure why is. I will say that I was pleased to see there wasn't a long, inexplicable wait at the counter, and our food came quicker than I'd thought. The tables were reasonably clean, but we tend to eat outside anyway. I would suggest just giving people a number or calling out their name when they're waiting to pick up an order. Waiting to hear "3-2-1-blast off" is a cute concept, but just doesn't quite work in reality. Bottom line, I'm a little surprised that the reviews are so low here. This is probably the best restaurant that's ever been at BADM, so give them a break! Any restaurant that caters solely to little kids is going to run into situations where you just can't please every one. Believe me, I know. I've heard complaints at my own dinner table every...single night for almost eight years (and yes, I'm a decent cook). I think the key to Bean Sprouts' success will be to take into account what reviewers have said and be flexible enough to make changes to their business plan when something's not working. Ive returned since my last visit. They have stepped up their game. It was a much shorter wait in line, service was much better. Prices are high, but its Marin. The food *is* organic and healthy, so its going to cost more. Theyve addressed they overly chewy waffles and the long wait times for food. When I went this last time, the parking lot of the museum was PACKED and the wait at noon sharp was only 10 min in line, another 10 min wait for food. Not that bad considering the crowd. I really like the chic choc. They playdate sandwich and the purple gurple smoothie are also great. read more

absolutely, 100% bring your own food when you visit the Bay Area Discovery Museum. We are HUGE fans of the museum (really - go there - it's awesome) and the last cafe was actually reasonably good as far as cafe/museum food goes. But from now on we are packing our own lunch. The Bean Sprouts menu is cute in theory -- waffle sandwiches, stuff shaped like butterflies, salads for grownups, etc. The food is even "ok" in practice (I did not find it as inedible as some of the other reviewers). But the service is horrific. Truly. Our first experience was about a month ago, when it took 52 minutes (I timed it) to stand in line and return with two sandwiches and a salad. There were maybe 10 people in front of me in line, so I can only imagine how bad it would be with the line far out the door. Yesterday we returned to the museum (with our own packed lunch) and I watched people as they emerged from the cafe frustrated and angry about the wait. I ducked in myself to get some napkins and nothing had changed since our last visit as far as process or efficiency. When you provide food for kids there are really only a few things you need to get right - and SPEED is in the top three. I wish the Museum could break this contract now and find a different provider. If not, Bean Sprouts needs some serious help. read more

This was so much better than you'd expect from an onsite cafe to a family museum. From looking at the other review I think they've clearly had a change in management. We didn't have time to pack lunch today for the kids so we thought we would just eat somewhere in Sausalito, but they were having too much fun to leave by 12, so it was what was available. (There are many open picnic tables for those that bring their own - no shaming or pressure to eat there, it was just so convenient). Anyway, it was really really flavorful food. Great. Eat there again in a heartbeat. Nice people, quick food delivery, absolutely no complaints. The best thing is since they are trying to change their image, until the end of July you can say the magic words "give peas a chance" to get a free pizza or salad with you order. So for us it was buy one get one free! You can too! read more

For a restaurant inside of the Discovery museum, I loved the healthy options for kids and adults. I didn't love the different communication from different employees. When I ordered, I asked for special instructions on our sandwiches. Those were not followed. Also, The employee that was taking our order, also shared with me that if we bought the reusable cup, it would come with a smoothie and we would be able to get refills for free. When I went to redeem my free beverage, another employee told me the opposite. I wouldn't have bought the reusable cup, had I known. read more

The pepperoni pizza here is a bit hit for kids. It is not too greasy and the pepperoni is underneath the cheese which makes you wonder if it really is pepperoni until you pick off the cheese and see a big slice of the pepperoni meat: There is a variety of kid favorites here as this is located at a kids museum. There are adult sandwiches to fill a grown up appetite. Lemonade is a big hit for kids as well. read more

This review is solely for service. I came on Sunday, 02/23/20 and the cashier girl wearing pigtails had the most unprofessional, disrespectful tone I have ever come across. She was rude, short, and had major attitude. She rolls her eyes while taking your order because it was simply too hard, I guess? This place is for kids and if she doesn't have any patience, she should look for a new job. Luckily for me, a manager overheard her and fixed my order while she just walked away from me. Flavors are disgusting (5 y/o would not eat the Popsicle - coated in freezer burn and flavor was bad combo strawberry/lemon) preparation is terrible (hot chocolate tasted like water w a sprinkle of Swiss miss), kitchen looks dirty (TP trail on floor.. yuck), and overpriced (14$ for two hot cocoas, one cookie and a popsicle). Visited the museum on January 14th. Had a great time. Bean Sprouts cafe is the only place to eat on the grounds. The food was good. The problem I had with the place is that there were black birds flying in and out the open door, sitting on the cabinets near where food was being prepared. Flying over your head as you are trying to eat. I would think this is against the health and safety code. It was better to eat outside than in the restaurant. read more

Bring your own food. The BADM is awesome. This restaurant is not. Look, the food isn't great but that isn't the reason. The reason is that the service is just atrocious. You'll spend absolutely ages in line even if you try outside normal lunch hours. They're completely disorganized inside. And with an impatient youngster at your side, who has other things on their mind (like all the great things outside the door you came here for), you'll really really regret giving them your money. The food is terrible. My chicken sandwich was awful and my 4 year old's flower sandwich could not have been more lackluster and came with a side of wilted veggies - he refused to eat it and instead ended up getting a chocolate milk and eating the cheddar bunnies I brought. Oh, and he had a cake lollipop too because they encourage kids to order for themselves and have the cake lollipops right in front to taunt little children and my son was having a major meltdown after the flower sandwich disaster. The lines take way too long and it took forever to get our food. The staff is not helpful and in fact is rather irriating. If you give a tip, they do an annoying cheer. So don't tip! They removed most of the indoor seating so now you have to sit outside and fight with the birds over the cardboard sandwiches. This place is really awful. Please, BADM, bring back the old cafe. I'm sure Bean Sprouts sounded great on paper, but the reality is that it doesn't work. After our last visit, my son said to me, "Mommy can we NEVER go to that cafe again?" So now I have to pack lunches if we want to go to the BADM. Guess I'll be taking my business to the Academy of Sciences or the Exploratorium until BADM deals with this issue.
