Little Original Joe's is one of those places we locals love to treat ourselves to! We're always greeted with a friendly face, and our favorite waitress, Emma, was there again. She's wonderful--she always remembers us and makes every visit feel special. We ordered the pesto pasta with shrimp, which was amazing as usual. The salmon was delicious, the hamburger was a hit with the kid in our group, and the meatballs with cheese were absolutely delicious as an appetizer. I've been so excited to try this location because Original Joes of Westlake has always been one of my favorite restaurants. Unfortunately it wasn't exactly what I was hopping for. I might come back to try other options but we'll see. The food wasn't bad it just wasn't the same quality I feel like I get an Westlake. The chicken cutlet was a little tough and not the easiest to eat. The side of pasta I got was just ok. My husband's raviolis did not have enough sauce unfortunatel. The garlic knot breads were good and our zucchini fries were definitely a must try. The cedar salad was a lot good, but they do not have an appetizer option, so we split it. Original Joes & Little Original Joes have gained a lot of popularity and I wanted to see for myself if it was as good as everyone says it was. We ordered the spicy vodka pasta, the cacio y pepe & the truffle fries. The cacio y pepe was super creamy and had the perfect amount of cheesy peppery flavor. The spicy rigatoni was not overwhelming and just the right amount of spice. I would definitely recommend to only order the truffle fries if you have more than two people eating. This is more of a pizza and pasta location than North Beach and Westlake. What always kills me here is the staff here never ever seems to have been to the Westlake location which I think all staff should see just to get the right vibe that should exist at all locations and versions of this venerable eatery. My second favorite was the PB&A pizza. I just love prosciutto and arugula on pizza, and they used a truffle oil too! I love truffle taste :p The crust was a little too thick though. I came here for my birthday on Saturday around 3pm (with a reservation) and had a great time! The pizza was good too: spicy, savory, and an EPIC crust. The truffle pasta was creamy and umami. The bread pudding isn't anything to write home about, but was pretty good. Now the 4/5 is because of the starters. 1st of all, truffle fries are spectacular PLEASE get these over the zucchini fries. Do not get the LOJ ranch-- not worth. While the zuccs were okay, there was not a whole lot of flavor. I almost feel like onion strings would be better. Though the sauce that came with the zucc fries was yummy, they were just over-shined by the truffle fries. A little sad about it tbh And the shaved brusslels, while so aesthetically pleasing, was soooo dry. It seemed not dressed at all and I love love love a brussels salad. I've been coming here for years now, and it's one of those places that I always find myself bringing people who are visiting San Francisco. It's consistently good, and you always know what you're going to get. One of the biggest standouts for me is the service. Every member of the staff is incredibly professional and genuinely seems to care about the restaurant. It honestly feels like everyone has an owner's mentality. They're attentive without being overbearing, and the experience always feels polished from start to finish. Food wise, I definitely have my favorites. The buffalo wings are an absolute must. I'm not usually someone who loves spicy food, but these are so good that I order them every single time. I always ask for them tossed instead of having the sauce on the side, and they've never disappointed. The fries are another staple. Whenever I bring friends or family here, they're always one of the first things we order. They're beautifully presented, perfectly cooked, and one of those dishes that everyone at the table ends up reaching for. I've also had the carpaccio a few times and have always enjoyed it. The one thing that wasn't for me was the shaved Brussels sprouts salad. I know it's one of their signature dishes and plenty of people absolutely love it, but it just wasn't my personal favorite. That's completely a matter of taste rather than execution. I haven't really explored the pizza or pasta menu because those just aren't dishes I typically order, so I can't really comment on them. If I had one critique, it's that I do think the restaurant is a little overhyped. There's almost always a line out the door, and while I definitely think it's a great restaurant, I personally don't think it's worth waiting forever if you have other good options nearby. That said, it's consistently reliable, which is probably why it's always so busy. For lunch, this is honestly one of my go to spots, especially when I'm hosting people. If some of my other favorites like Mama Noko or Tia aren't open, this is almost always where we end up. In the evenings, I sometimes lean toward those places because I tend to prefer lighter meals and salads for dinner, whereas this menu is definitely a little richer and more indulgent. Overall, though, I've had consistently great experiences here over the years. I am in the minority here but I don't think the food here is that great. I am kind of baffled by all the good reviews. The food is basic red sauce Italian American comfort food. Have eaten both at the Marina and West Portal locations (take out for WP). Love that they have gluten free options for pasta and pizza. Vodka pasta (GF pasta was over cooked and sauce was fine but not great). Pink Onion has a way better version. Cacio e pepe - Pasta was cooked to perfection but sauce, which should be so simple and flavorful was thick, pasty and kind of flavorless. Broccolini was superb. Pizza salad was good but gigantic (maybe my husband ordered the wrong size?). It was literally a vat of salad. The portions in general are gigantic. Is that a good thing? You decide. For me, I'd rather have a smaller portion but better quality. The butter cake is apparently legendary. I couldn't eat it but everyone at my table loved it. Service was okay. The hostesses seemed preoccupied and our waiter was quirky but efficient. on sunday at around 4:45, we called to put our name on the waitlist and were told that the online/digital waitlist was closed, but we were told we were free to come and add our name in person. we got there at around 5 and put our name down for a party of 9. we explored the area while we waited and didn't get a call that our table was ready until 2 hours later. it was all of our first time there, so we were browsing the menu for a while 'cause everything sounded good. i ended up getting the marry me farfalle. it came out in a reasonable amount of time. i initially thought the portion size was small, especially for the price point, but i was adequately satiated when i finished, but i stand by my opinion that i think it's a bit pricey ($32) for the portion. i'm not from sf, so i wasn't aware that this was a thing, but i'm not a fan of the random surcharge that's added to the receipt. at joe's it's a 6% regulatory costs surcharge. I went to Little Original Joe's on a Friday night to celebrate my girl's birthday, and we had such a good time. The ambiance is modern but still has that classic vibe, perfect for a date night or a cute girls' night out. The place gets really crowded and lively at night, but it honestly adds to the vibe. Everything was delicious, and the pasta was cooked perfectly al dente. Between the 3 types of pastas, I literally cannot choose a favorite because they all tasty in their own unique way. Came with my friend for brunch yesterday since we both haven't been and I've been to try out Little Original Joe's for a while! The service was great - our server was kind and provided us with recommendations for what to order. I also enjoyed the ambiance - the interior is very well-decorated and the vibes are quite nice. As for the food, we got the famous zucchini fries to share. My friend got the LOJ burger and I got the chicken caesar wrap, sub crispy chicken. The portion sizes were huge! The food was great, but we definitely ordered too much for two people. We had a lot of leftovers. I like how the wrap comes with a side of caesar dressing in case you want to dip the wrap in it. It also comes with a side of chips or fries, and so does the burger! The zucchini fries come with a side of a creamy pesto sauce as well. We also got the Citrus Spritz (NA) and the strawberry limoncello slush- both very tasty as well. I liked the spritz a lot, but my friend mentioned her drink was more alcoholic than she expected. We were in the City on a Saturday and needed to grab lunch so we wanted to try a new spot, with that said I am very familiar with Original Joe's, and have been to it numerous times in the City since I was a kid, so to know that this is a spin on that spot, gave me excitement! We put our name down for a table and within 20 minutes or less we were sat down. The ambience, aesthetic and vibe pulled us in, the entire staff, from the host, to the server, were all attentive, friendly, and welcoming. Now the food, everything on the menu looked appealing, I am pescatarian and follow a specific meal every day, so of course being out, I had to go for the spicy rigatoni vodka pasta with shrimp, as the protein. LOJ provided the type of service I recall working in, as I have restaurant staff experience, drinks were never empty, plates were removed as soon as we were done utilizing them, and not in one moment did I/we feel rushed, all of us were happy with each item we ordered. We also dug into desserts, I had the cheesecake, it was so smooth, soft, fresh & delicious, I have not had a cheesecake that just melts in your mouth like this. TLDR: LOJ's is a gorgeous spot right on Union Street that's always packed. They're well known for their spicy rigatoni (Carbone who?) and zucchini fries, but I loved a few of their other options even more. It really is quite pretty inside, so it makes for a great date night spot, girls' night spot, or lunch spot. ------ FOOD: 1) [MUST TRY] MARRY ME FARFALLE (5/5) Hands down one of my favorite pastas in the Bay Area. The sauce is everything it should be -- thick and flavorful without being overpowering, and it coats every piece of farfalle. I added chicken to mine and they were generous on the chicken, which was also mixed into the pasta (so it was also coated in sauce) vs. lazily drizzled on top. Huge portion too. Pasta cooked perfectly (i.e. not too al dente but not too soft). 2) [MUST TRY] CHICKEN POT PIE (5/5) I'm a sucker for pot pies and I actually don't know that I've ever seen one on a restaurant menu in SF. This version was amazing -- the pastry was buttery and obviously made from scratch, but the star was the filling, which had generous amounts of chicken and veggies bathing in a delicious and thick roux. Love that it also came with a side salad! 3) [MUST TRY] BUTTER CAKE (5/5) I don't see butter cake on dessert menus very often, and I'm so glad I tried it. First of all it's huge and could easily fit four dessert lovers. Secondly, it comes out extremely warm with a huge scoop of ice cream on top. The cake itself has a strong butter flavor without the side effects of actually being too buttery. There's also fresh fruit around the cake. 4) SPICY RIGATONI (5/5) What I loved that this was actually a bit spicy! Spicy rigatonis usually barely have a kick, but true to the name, this version delivered on the spice. Still only a 3 or 4 out of 10 on the spice scale, but definitely there. Pasta was cooked well and portion size was good. 5) PIZZA SALAD (4.5/5) Another favorite from here. Lots of different ingredients and fun to eat. 6) TIRAMISU (4/5) It's a beautiful presentation in a glass chalice and it tastes wonderful. It's nothing innovative but is perfect for any tiramisu lover (plus a healthy portion, though I think smaller than the butter cake). Definitely lighter than the butter cake, which could be a good thing after a heavy meal. If you're here, I've also heard many people rave about the shaved Brussels salad and the zucchini fries. I've never had them myself but they might be worth a try! People also have mentioned free chip service to start the meal, but after multiple lunches here I've never gotten them. Our family of 4 tonight had a Caesar's salad, iced tea, free refill Shirley Temple's, a tri-color.sauce pizza, a bruschetta pizza, a hamburger with fries, and lobster pot pie. Everything was excellent. The pizzas were artisan style, leopard spotted on the under-carriage. Beautiful ingredients, with the right amounts of toppings. For me, this pizza is as good as any in the city. My wife raved about her lobster pot pie: buttery, flakey, lots of fresh lobster, great sauce filling. I was skeptical to try this place since it seemed overhyped by everyone in the marina but it really lives up to its busy rushes. Every time I visit it is ALWAYS packed but you can pray for a table at the bar area. My go to is a salad and the tricolore pizza. The pizza is actually so solid. It's perfectly balanced and the crust is delicious. Definitely ask for the chili oil. Service is efficient and the drinks are fantastic as well. The servers are always aware when you might need something which is a bonus. Perfect place for an after work meal. read more

Had an amazing experience here! Ambiance: Very lively in the middle of Chestnut Street. Highly recommend for a night where you are feeling social and want to check out the vibrant Marina scene. Modern but comfortable interior. Quite loud inside, beware if you are sensitive to that. Service: Remarkably friendly--you can tell everyone is top notch and is truly making an effort. Food: Really, really good even for gluten free folks--I had the gluten free Marry Me Pasta and it was fantastic. Came here randomly on a Thursday night around 6:30pm for a party of 4. No reservations, and walked to get name down. We were informed a 2 hour wait. At the time, we didn't get parking yet so we kept circling around. 30 mins in, we were informed our table is ready. Lucky us, we went back and got seated. Great atmosphere. Decor was very nice. I always live and go to the west portal location so this menu was a nice surprise. Yes, get the zucchini fries. It lives up to the hype. Everything else is good and bomb. Made a reservation on a holiday at 11:30am. There was a long line of people waiting when we arrived. The interior is super cute and such a vibe with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. As for the food, the food was delicious! The zucchini fries were yummy and paired well with the dip. I have zero complaints with all the food we ordered! The service was great. Made a reservation about a week in advanced, when we arrived our table was ready which is always great rather than waiting! They had TVs playing football games and it was pretty packed almost all the tables were full upon going to our booth. Staff was so attentive filling our waters & we were brought chips while we decide what we want to order. We noticed tons of tables had the tower of zucchini fries and we had to try them, they're so worth it & a must try! Can't go wrong with spicy rigatoni vodka pasta always a fave of mines & pasta was cooked perfect The burger and fries were good & the pickle to me was the star of the show there. They have tons of cocktails to choose from and even zero proof drink options. We tried their aperol spritz & a glass of white wine. They're also dog friendly as the cutest dog sat next to us. My sister and I are fans of Original Joe's, and we were excited to try this location as the menu is a little different. Okay, maybe we were a little too excited, because we were disappointed. It's best not to have too high of an expectation in life. We had reservations for tonight for dinner at 5 p.m., and we only had to wait a few minutes before our table was ready. As the hostess was seating , she told us we only had 2 hours to dine. Don't spend too much time deciding that to order, because the food did take awhile to come out. In This place is much smaller than their Westlake and Elena's locations. Therefore, I recommend making reservations because I heard a few walk-ins had to wait until 8 or 9 p.m. for a table. If you drive, maybe someone can put your name down while you look for parking. Taking public transportation might be easier. This location feels much more fast-paced, compared to the classic, relaxed feel of the other spots. It's great if you want energy, but not ideal if you're looking for a quiet, celebratory dinner. I could barely hear my sister when she was literally right next to me. There are no private booths here, and if you are at the bar area was extremely crowded. Now it's time to talk about the food. Here's what we ordered and my rating for each one: Shaved Brussels Sprouts Salad - 4/5 This salad was good, and it was certainly shaved very finely. We didn't get it with pepper, but we think if it had lemon juice it would've made a huge difference. My sister asked for a few slices of lemon, and it brought out more flavor in the salad. The spicy Mike- 3/5 This pizza has tomato sauce, mozzarella, red onion, hot honey, jalapeños, and hot sauce. This pizza was a little on the soggy and salty side. This made it hard to it as the pizza wasn't able to hold the weight of the toppings. We originally wanted to order a different pizza(the Italian Job) , but the server told us that people said it was on the sour side, which discouraged us from ordering it. Marry Me Farfalle - 4/5 This pasta was our favorite dish of the night. The pasta was creamy, and the sauce was not overpowering. However, we were surprised by the portion of this dish. It was smaller than expected, as the portions at their other locations are much larger.Given the price point, the smaller portions here make it feel like less of a value than the other location. We were expecting a family-style size. I was also surprised they didn't split this for us as we told them we were sharing. While most of the food was good, we were disappointed by the lack of attention to detail regarding our reservation. We noted this was for a birthday, and while other locations usually acknowledge milestones with a simple happy birthday greeting, this location didn't mention it at all. Small gestures can make a difference. Would we come back again? Maybe only for their zucchini fries. The fries did look good, but I'm not sure if it's worth all the hassle as parking was almost impossible. The service felt a little rush here as they kept asking if we wanted to box anything up. This was my first time at Little Original Joe's! I stopped by at 4:30pm on a Friday and this place was PACKED. I would highly recommend booking a reservation which was what I did. We were served chips instead of bread like OJ does. We ordered the marry me pasta with spicy sausage, the cacio e pepe with chicken, and a side of the house ravioli. Everything was so good but the marry me was absolutely amazing and our favorite out of the three. The portions definitely looks small and I definitely think they could have added a little bit more pasta and chicken for the cacio e pepe. We did have to pay an additional $6 for adding meat to our pastas. The ravioli was a classic. For dessert we got the tiramisu and I thought it was okay. It had a strong coffee taste and the consistency was more... creamy(?) than I expected. I definitely do like my tiramisus with a little bit of a cake texture. I would get the classic butter cake next time. Service was great. Ambience felt warm and cozy and I loved the holiday decorations. I can't wait to come back! read more
