Bear coast is a hidden gem in Dana point. It's always so hard to choose a coffee shop when there are so many around but I'm pleasantly surprised with my option. There is a huge parking structure across the street so parking is never a nightmare. The barista was very friendly and the vibe was open and light. I got a dark chocolate latte and was happy with my choice. They have a decent amount of coffees and teas and I'm excited to try their iced drinks next time I'm back! read more

A little expensive, but the drinks are yummy. I also love the chocolate muffin when I have a sweet tooth. It is helpful that they offer online ordering. My only complaint for that is that you can only order four things at a time, which can make the process frustrating when you have a big order. read more

Unfortunately matcha was not good :( it wasn't the baristas fault, but it did come out of a squeeze tube, and if you know anything about matcha you know it should never be made that way. Therefore it was probably the worst matcha I've had, so i wouldn't recommend to anyone even if you sweeten it a bunch. Although i cant dock the whole experience, my mom got a latte and it was pretty good, as well as the breakfast burrito. Service was also good the barista was accommodating and gave use more vanilla for the matcha, unfortunately though it did not save the drink. read more

The matcha is soooo disappointing, first of all, the color is a muted light green, so you know it's gonna be bad right off the bat. Really wish they switched to ceremonial matcha. Super cute litte coffee shop in Dana Point. The staff was friendly and we got our coffees quickly. I ordered an Iced Dark Chocolate Mocha with oat milk. It wasn't quite as chocolate-y as I would have liked, but it wasn't too sweet either which I appreciated. My husband got the Lavender Caramel Latte, which was very tasty and had a good amount of lavender. It's a bit pricey- $7.25 for an iced mocha with oat milk. I've had some better iced mochas at a lower price point, which makes me less inclined to come back regularly. read more

My wife and I had a coffee and hot cocoa here. Drinks were well prepared and tasty and the ambience first rate. You can sit inside or outside in a courtyard sort of area that faces the street. They have wifi although I didn't use it when I was there. It's a natural place for people to gather and there was a nice, cheerful crowd enjoying their drinks and the weather. Great vibe. If you don't mind a little bit of a walk there's plenty of parking in the side streets en route to the bluffs overlooking the harbor. The staff were friendly but very busy. This review is about service. I went up to the counter and the staff looked at eachother to see which one of them would take my order. The building was full of staff and family of staff spread across all the indoor seating. Lots of them were looking at me as I waited for my food. I like the coffee, lattes and pastries and the ambience is great. I'm not happy about the fact that they don't offer lattes in 16 ounces. You pay six dollars for a tiny little 12 ounce. I suggest that all Bear Coast coffee locations offer a 16 ounce option for all drinks. Also the Dana Point location happily upgraded me when I asked for a 16 ounce upgrade but the Sanclemente location did not. Lastly, the music at Dana point was loud enough to hear over my audio book even with headphones. When I asked to have the music turned down just slightly, the young man behind the counter, said the music is fine we're not going to turn it down. I find this response interesting since a lot of people use this location for work, meetings, and pop in headphones to take zoom calls or listen to audiobooks. Bear coast coffee should listen to their patrons and take their concern. Seriously. Not being able to hear an audiobook with headphones in is not nitpicking it's a legitimate challenge that can easily be solved by turning music down *slightly* read more

We checked out the new location that doesn't show up on maps yet. It's in the new Prado West neighborhood by Yoga Six. There is street parking and a public parking garage across the street. They have all your fave drinks and pastries. We tried a latte, turmeric herbal tea and poppyseed muffin - all were good. Service was fast and friendly! Bathrooms are located inside the gated community of PW. The bathrooms are clean. There's some window/bar seating along the window inside for people who usually work remotely, otherwise there is seating outside. read more

The staff is very friendly and they are very accurate in preparing their orders. Location is perfect for me. Nearby and unpretentious. I've gone here a few times for the convenience and it's the perfect area for walking my dog. However, I've not been impressed with their drinks and I don't appreciate how much they charge for a basic drink. Flavored iced teas and oat milk lattes are much tastier at Peet's coffee and they are cheaper. I once ordered a vanilla green tea latte with oat milk and it was close to $8 for a medium drink. That's just ridiculous to charge so much for sweetener and oat milk that your drink can amount to 8 bucks. The girls at the counter are always sweet but otherwise I haven't loved anything about this place other than the location and the vibe. read more

I love the new location! The ambiance and decor is sweet and simple. All the ladies at the counter are a delight and hold an easy conversation while you wait for your beverage. I've never had to wait in too long of a line. They have nice healthier options like the parfaits for breakfast as well as canned healthy drinks such as kombucha for later. ‼‼ Terrible place as soon as me and my friends who are people of color walked in, they gave all my friends dirty looks. We're extremely rude as we were trying to decide what we were going to eat and continued to bother us asking what we're ordering. These workers are all young white woman who weren't rude to me for some reason but only to all my black friends. So it's already feeling like there is terrible tension and if it came off very racist. We came in to read our bibles and they would just continue to bother us but didn't even welcome us in to begin with, they would only greet everyone else who wasn't a person of color. The way we were being treated was disgusting, they had so much tension and anger towards us from the moment we walked in, I wish I knew there names but don't come here if you're a person of color- they claim they aren't racist but the way they behaved towards us TWO DAYS in a row was horrible. I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to delete this comment, it's in their character to try and make things seem less bad than it really is. If I could give this a 0 star I would. read more

ordered an iced matcha latte w/ almond milk + vanilla probably one of the worst matcha lattes i have ever had. the matcha flavor was decent, but there were large clumps at the bottom of my cup. the almond milk was WAY too overpowering in almond flavor. it somehow was watery but also way too almondy- not milky at all very strange. not even sure if they put sweetener in my drink tbh. and the worst part- it costed $8.75. $8.75 FOR A TERRIBLE DRINK. will NOT be coming back here despite the friendly service. read more

So after having a bad experiences at their location across PCH, i decided to check out the new location and see if the same bad service was going on, and to my surprise, this location had simple syrup available for me to sweeten my cold brew. Then, I go back a month later and it's the same garbage as the one across the street, "we can put a sugar packet in there for you"?!? And my response to that ridiculousness is, that doesn't work, the sugar doesn't melt in a COLD drink and just sits on the bottom of the cup like sand? They should know this, and this is a coffee shop that goes out of their way to make "house made" almond milk, but they can't prepare or buy liquid sugar to sweeten cold drinks? Do they make it so difficult or awkward for customers to sweeten hot drinks, to the customer's preference? The same should be for a customer who'd like to sweeten my cold brew coffee? And additionally, the only time I had friendly service, was when a guy was working the counter and said, sure man, help yourself with the simple syrup over there, the 3 other times, an attitude from the girls behind the counter, because I dare to question that a sugar packet doesn't work in a cold coffee?? I'm a guy who'd much rather support a small business than the corporate guys down the street, but if I'm met with an attitude for something that is standard in 90% of coffee shops, I'll just take my business to the corporate guys, where I can sweeten my drink with no fuss and no attitude! read more
