This was my first visit. Seeing fairly good reviews, we decided to give it a try. The staff was very friendly. Lots of options on the menu & a long list of daily specials. My hubby got the French dip with fries & I got the Dagwood, a ham/turkey club with fries. Overall, it was pretty good. The fries were tasty & had an interesting seasoning on them. My husband enjoyed the French dip, but it didn't have as much meat on it as he expected. The dagwood was a little messy, but the bacon was crispy. There was plenty of turkey & ham in it, but it was a little slimy, which was why it was messy. Again, the staff was super friendly & I would probably go back to try some breakfast options. read more

Jackpot!!!! I was searching for a breakfast spot and relied on reviews which led me to Bear E Patch Cafe. The breakfast was hot, seasoned, filling and sizable portions. I ordered an omelette which was very good. The grits were very creamy and the fresh bread made in house was super good. The outside of this place is a bit rundown but once you walk inside you'll quickly notice it's the place to be by the crowd, smiling faces and those waiting to be seated. Enjoy! read more

This is a cute mom and pop hole in the wall. Good ol breakfast spot. They have fresh loaves of bread for $3. They have ice cream that's good too. One of my favorite local breakfast spots. The Harbour Sauté is my absolute favorite!! Fresh shrimp, claw crab meat, and scallops!! How can you go wrong. The flavors over a bowl of hot grits is delicious. Sometimes the grits are not hot enough, so the cheese doesn't melt right away, but it's still a very good dish. The wait for breakfast is long, so get there early or very late (breakfast is served ALL DAY). The omelettes are amazing as well. I have been eating meals at the Bear E Patch for years. I have never been a complainer about restaurants. But this took the cake. I ordered my regular eggs over light,toast, sausage, and hashbrowns and instead of coffee I got apple juice. The waitress never said a word that I would be charged for each item separately because I wanted hashbrowns not grits. I did get a large apple juice but did not request a large size. The 1 breakfast cost $22.14 w tax. $25.14 with the $3tip I placed on the table.The manager explained that they recently went up on their prices. I replyed that I have been a regular for years. The waitress did not explain that because I chose Hashbrowns not GRITS that my order would be itemized at higher prices. The manager would not work anything out. Charleston is very much a foodie town and there's an ever increasing price tag that goes along with that. We went here for dinner tonight. I got the Greek salad and hubs got the open-faced ribeye sandwich with onion rings as the side. I really enjoyed my salad, I got the half but it was plenty big for me. The house dressing is good, it's pretty thin so I had to ask for a little extra, it's more of a vinaigrette than a creamy Greek dressing, but I like that kind better. Best of all, the salad had enough feta, tomatoes, green peppers, and black olives- I hate those salads that are almost all lettuce! Plus, the lettuce was romaine instead of iceberg, another win in the world of Greek salads. Hubs said he liked his sandwich, but I don't know that he'd go back and order it again. He wasn't too fond of it being served on buttered toast- think it was a little too butter-y for him (some of the menu items are a little Paula Deen-esque like that. We got a cone of ice cream on the way out- pralines and cream. Really, really good and the scoops are huge, big enough to share. It's a nice little mom and pops place with a very home-y feel. We decided to get some brunch over at Bear E Patch one rainy Sunday. We showed up to a nice crowd waiting for a table. The wait was pretty standard for the middle of brunch on a Sunday. We were seated and our waitress was right there taking our drink order and telling us about the specials. The atmosphere was definitely busy but it wasn't loud by any means. I opted for the country fried steak with gravy, home fries and some eggs. I feel like the kitchen read my mind and started my order before I even placed it because our food came out in no time. Good first time here. I'm a stickler for service and where there could be a lot of room for mess ups they get it right. First they're are no reservations but they bus tables quickly and the food comes out fast so you don't feel the pain or a long wait. They have basic breakfast options but also have specials. And not like an extra pancake that you weren't going to eat anyway specials. I'm talking about lobster and crab AND shrimp over grits specials. And they bake their own bread so French toast and the toast that comes with your meal or sandwich are made in house. All in all. This is usually my go-to place for a breakfast or brunch style meal, either during the week or on the weekends. On this particular visit, I ordered the chicken waffle special. The chicken comes fried and sliced on top of the waffles, and it is boneless, so for those who are opposed to the bone, feel confident knowing that you won't choke on your chicken with this meal. My ONE complaint, is that the waffle was charred on the bottom. Black. It did not add a good flavor to the bites, but because I had already dumped all of my syrup over everything, I forged on, not wanting to waste the nectar of the trees. Honestly though, a waffle that is charred like this should never be presented to a customer. Regardless, I ate everything on my plate like a good little boy and will be back again for more. read more

I enjoy coming to Bear E Patch for a chill atmosphere and great food. The parking lot is a tad small and lunch time & weekends can get crowded quick so call ahead and check wait time! I normally get the Harbor Sauté (crab,shrimp,scallops with veggies over grits) but this day I was feeling adventurous! The Blue crab melt was soooo good! We have had breakfast here 2 weekends in a row. Both times it was a delicious experience. They write the specials on the wall and there is something different every week. We tried the Shrimp and Grits and a Lowcountry Skillet which were both on the menu. You are helped by everyone on the floor. This is right by my house. Going around doing errands with my girlfriend, this is our first stop at 12:45. It's busy- good sign. As we are seated, the hostess takes a drink order before I see a menu. A different employee comes by and asks Augusta if she is ok. Weird interaction. A new waitress brings the drinks and takes our order. This is a diner so I order a burger and shake. The flavors aren't listed so I'm sent to the ice cream freezer to choose a flavor and order from a different waitress. The burger was a frozen formed patty and not a Bubba Burger, this was more like a Flander's. The onions rings were good, Augusta's chicken and waffles were good. Overall, I walked away confused. While paying at the counter, the cashier asks me how much I want to tip on my card- 15%, 20%, 25%? That was weird. I interacted with 5 employees, there was no clear message. I love a good diner and honestly theyre few and far between in the Lowcountry. I came in with my Mom for an early lunch and she loved it. She went with a simple two egg breakfast and I had the breakfast burrito. I wish I had noticed it came with grits because I probably would have switched it up to homefries or something. I like grits but not plain ones. I also had a side of bacon and it was nice and crispy.
