So I love me some Bear E Patch. Just dont like the things that make this place great sometimes... like the long wait on a Saturday morning, or, like on the day I was there, them running out of hollandaise sauce for the Edisto skillet. But it was great none the less. The BEP reminds me of that Yogi quote, "Nobody goes there anymore, it's always packed" My Favorite is the Harbor Sautee. Seafood and grits, and awesome and yummy. Stopped by on a Friday morning around 10. Waited around 15 minutes. Wife had the burrito, I had the french toast. We shared a cinnamon roll. Cinnamon roll was very good,but not great. 1st timer was totally impressed with everything! The service was excellent even in the hustle and bustle. It was crowded but they never missed a beat from refills on the drinks to making our orders. My daughter was looking for an apt in the area. We were about to hit the road to 13 hour drive to CT... we figured we woild.get a drink and hi the road. This local diner is always packed for breakfast! It has amazing breakfast skillets and a seafood over southern grits that has a cult following! I love their coffee. The service is always friendly and personable. They are quick to take your order and refill your cup. The food is worth the mega calories. It is southern style diner food. It is a local diner with homemade baked breads and delicious pancakes and French toast. The sandwiches and soups are good but breakfast is the Star here. They restaurant always has an interesting mix of people. The line mores pretty quickly so do nothing t get discouraged if there is a wait. My favorite dish is the southern skillet. I was craving breakfast food on a Saturday afternoon and knew that I needed to go to Bear E Patch- they serve breakfast all day. We arrived and had about a ten minute wait, not too bad. They were a full house! I ordered the chicken fried steak with potatoes and eggs. Everything was cooked perfectly and tasted fantastic. My coffee cup was always full and we were checked on numerous times to make sure we were doing okay. I didn't feel rushed even though they had a packed restaurant, which is always nice. The service was polite and they all worked as a team rather than assigning tables to individual servers. The place is a bit run down, but don't let that deter you! I consider myself at least a semi- regular and have always enjoyed eating there but something has changed. Apparently the prices have been raised in an extraordinary fashion, including $5 for a child's Juice and $7 for a cup of soup. Our bill was almost double what it usually is, and on top of that, our kid's milk was sour. I feel bad for the servers who will undoubtedly bear the brunt of this price change. As i entered the establishment i was greeted right away by the friendly hostess. I ordered the shrimp and sausage omelette , lets just say it was amazing . This omelette was cooked to perfection and most importantly fresh seafood .. Living in the south , you know fresh seafood when you taste it.. My friend had the crab and grits and he was impressed with the taste as well. I also ordered the french toast, which i must say was wonderful as well.. this was literally the best breakfast food i have ever had. my bf says the same. i got the belgium waffle and fried chicken and it was so delicious. the belgium waffle tasted like ice cream somehow, it had sugar chunks in it that made it the perfect amount of sweet that paired with the saltiness of the chicken. i didn't even end up using syrup because the combo was perfect on its own. my bf said his country fried steak was "amazing, perfectly cooked, melts in your mouth, gravy was perfect, potato's were seasoned well, and fresh bread on the side was so good." (direct quote) alongside this amazing meal, the service was so attentive. it was the only place i've been where every single server is constantly checking in and attending to you, not just the one we talked to once we were sat. they brought a water out when ours was about halfway done, and were doing that with other tables so everyone had water! every server was nice and checked in until we left! we had to wait about 30 minutes to be sat when we got there around 10:30, but it was 100% worth it. im visiting here for the weekend and on the last day of our trip, this is by far the best food/service i've gotten!! My coworker shared this cool place with me. It was his week to choose lunch and I am glad he brought me here. This place gets crazy busy for lunch so come early for lunch. We arrived just before 11:30 AM and there were only 2 tables left to sit at. The staff was struggling to keep up with the guest so sadly service did suffer. We got the last table and then had to wait to be taken care of. It was 30 minutes before out food arrived from the time we walked in. I got the Chicken Fried Steak with eggs and potatoes. The steak was a decent size and was very good. The gravy was awesome and make it even better. The eggs were just right and the fried potatoes were crispy and lightly spiced. My buddy got the blueberry pancakes which I got to try and they were delicious. With tons of blueberries inside and outside of the fluffy pancakes they were a welcome treat. I am looking forward to my next visit to try even more of their tasty food. I will be coming earlier next time to avoid the crazy lunch hour rush... read more

I would definitely pick in this patch again, because what you pick here is delicious. I have dined in on busy days and slow week day mornings. If you are like me and might want a to go order from time to time be careful because they restrict it on the weekends due to often having a line out the door. I have not had a wide variety of items here, but as someone who is not a fan of breakfast I will definitely be back. The things I have tried include the potato pancakes (not really pancakes), the shrimp and grits and the harbor sauté (shrimp and grits on steroids) and a greek burger once. Everything I have had has been really delicious. If you go when they are busy expect to wait in line. The line moves fast because it is a good sized location. The service is friendly and pleasant. If you order to go in the middle of the week then your food will be ready promptly. My only complainant is that they have you add the tip before they ring you up. They ask if you would like to leave a tip and I've caught myself leaving a tip on to go orders and that is something I really don't believe in. I know many former servers are up in arms at reading that. The interior can be summed in up 2 words, Clean Diner. I don't know how else to describe it. The only bad reviews I see are years out of date. If you live in the area... go here. End of story. read more

2.5 is my rating for this restaurant. I can sum it up in one phrase. "great food, bad service." We arrived at the restaurant and stod at the "wait to be seated sign" for at least 5 minutes. About 5 employees saw us, passed us and did not acknowledge our presence. I understand being busy, but when there are empty tables and customers waiting to be seated, attention should be given to customers waiting to sit. At minimum, a hello and be right with you would have sufficed. When we were seated, we were not offered a drink for awhile. The service was slow, which is u derstandabke and acceptable considering the quality of the food. However, the lackadaisical attitude of the staff was unacceptable. They were quick to ignore customers and for the most part never smiled. The food made the visit worth the money, but the poor service left us wondering if we would return. Recommendation to Bear e patch: keep the food the way it is, train your employees to be friendly and remember that the customer comes first. read more

This restaurant has just stopped accepting orders for curbside pickup, and now requires a mask to physically walk in to the building to place your to-go order. I may try to overlook this if they provided masks, however all they have to offer are free gloves. Where is the sense in all of this? I will not return. read more

Bear Patch did not disappoint! I ordered the seaside omelet, filled with all of my favorites: shrimp, scallops, and blue crab! Soooo good and so large it barely looked like I touched my food. The grits were also fresh and yummy. Boyfriend ordered the cheese cake pancakes with strawberry topping and a side of corned beef hash. He devoured his food in 5 minutes flat lol. I tasted the pancake, so fluffy and light! The corned beef hash also did not disappoint. Our waitress was very kind and attentive, despite the restaurant being packed. By the time we left the line was out the door. But even with the crowd, food came out piping hot and looking delicious. I highly recommend bear patch if you're in the West Ashley area.
