Past and present this has been a dependable favorite. This visit out with friends, I had the Taco salad. No meat included, so opted for the carbe asada topping, which durjng early lunch was freshly grilled so said our waitress. It arrived well presented (I always forget to tell them to skip the deep fried bowl & just serve it up on a plate). The meat was cooked a perfect medium, spiced right and tender. Also served on the side, and thankfully, both varieties of El Yucatano Habenero sauce are on the table. My friends had the fish tacos which I usially order and they were quite pleased with. On the last day of our Alaska trip, we wanted to try out a pub that locals hang out. Someone suggested Bear tooth pub and we were there in Sunday evening. The place was packed with a 30 min wait time. Once seated, we got great derived from Molly. As for the food the Jamaican jerk sandwich was really good. The root beer is some of the best. They brew it here and it has a light fizz but wonderful taste. Get a growler full. THe cheesy bread has lots of cheese and wonderful crust. Simply a great appetizer. The wheat crust is thin and tasty. I usually dislike wheat crusts in pizza but this was quite good. The onion and olive pizza was very tasty. The wait here was half of the mooses tooth wait for the exact same food. The marinara sauce for dipping was extremely hot. Still tasty but very hot. Recommended restaurant. read more

I'm in the minority when it comes to this place. I absolutely love Moose's Tooth but I'm not quite as enamored with Bear Tooth. I've eaten here a couple of times now, both times I found it to be kindof lackluster and the food rather bland and boring for my taste. They are pretty much always packed, just like Moose's Tooth, so there is always a loud sortof buzz in the restaurant. Not a place you want to go if your looking for quiet dining or to be able to really converse with a friend. The bar is packed, and you often have to wait to get a seat here. I recently had the blackened alaskan cod tacos. They were served with cabbage and a mango fruit salsa. They were ok..nothing remarkable, honestly I have made fish tacos at home that were more exciting. I tried the garlic, cilantro fries as well. They too were ok. I mean good but not amazing. You can taste a lot of garlic but the cilantro is pretty much imperceptible in terms of flavor. I have never had their pizza here but I'm sure they are great, as they are the same recipes as their partner location. We were traveling through Anchorage on our way to Seward and this was a fabulous stopping point. An extensive menu of tacos, bowls, salads, burgers and of course pizza! This review is for the Grill side. I love, love, love this place. It is my go-to location when I want a good meal paired with good drinks. They serve great beer, but their mixed drinks are where it's at. The Blood Orange margarita is my favorite drink in Anchorage (followed shortly thereafter by the lemon drop at Brewhouse). The garlic cilantro fries are so good I often crave them in the wee hours of the night. I would give up fried food entirely if it wasn't for those fries and the calamari. The seafood chowder is the best I've had in town. The chocolate mousse is amazing and I'm glad they have two different sizes now. Oh, and I love the brunch here. The Spenard Starter is so different from anything I've tried anywhere and I love it. There are some negatives, but they are outweighed by the positive. This place is almost always crowded (so expect a wait) and it can get awfully loud and quite cramped depending on how many people are waiting at the bar. And it's not a good place to try to bring a large party. They don't have the room for it and since they don't take reservations you can wait for hours if you have more than 6 people. Regardless of any of the negatives, I highly recommend this place to just about everyone I meet. read more

No place is perfect. BT has had its flaws, but my overall experiences over the years going here lands them a solid five stars. Sure, service can be off. And WTH about the price gouging on the Grill-side, with their smaller portions of garlic fries for more money?! (I take my deep-fried potatoes very seriously, TYVM.) But other than a few gripes, it's really a great place. The menus on both sides offer a great variety of food, sure to satisfy any picky appetite. Plus, their specials that rotate every few weeks is always a nice change of pace. Overall, the servers here are pretty fab. It can get pretty crowded, if you aren't careful timing your visit around the deluge of screaming kids to see the latest Dr. Seuss movie at 3pm on a Saturday, but if one side is crowded, usually the other isn't. It's also great to have a cheap theater in town that isn't the disgusting slop that is Totem. BT also features a lot of great, eclectic movies. $3.50 for a flick ain't bad; it's even more fun reserving a booth (which still costs less than 2 tickets to Regal) and you're forcing your friends to watch "The Human Centipede," and while you're cackling in glee, everyone else in the theater is close to puking up their pints of Midtown Brown. Ah, memories. So, the --Tooth family of restaurants in town are pretty much standard for any local, and any visitor that somehow finds their way in Anchorage. It's pretty unlikely you'll get disappointed. And if you do, it's probably because you got forced into watching a German film where people get sewn butt-to-mouth. read more

This is an updated review... I actually used to LOVE this place. Tonight our service was terrible. This is why: 1. We got seated at 6pm and the server didn't come to until 6:15 2. She was like oops I didn't know you guys were my table (not empathetic at all) 3. My friend's meal came with Mac n cheese and he asked if the mac n cheese with his meal be brought out first so the baby could eat it and eat now. 4. Did not being Mac and cheese out first. Brought everything out at once. 5. Charged us for a kids Mac and cheese. 6. Do you think she would have given us a free dessert for the waiting 15 mins to get our drinks in? No. 7. I love this place! Although, the theater may not be the cleanest (the floor is sticky), who cares! This theater is unique because you can eat a REAL meal while watching your movie. All of the moves are $4, and you can order a booth if you are in a group (or want to sit alone). The variety is amazing. They have a pizza restaurant where the best pizza in town is served, or you can order from the Bistro which has a wide array of salads, steaks and other rich cuisines. You can order from the grill. This is my favorite restaurant in Anchorage, and quite possibly my favorite restaurant ever. Despite the incredible number of times I've eaten here I've never had a bad experience. The food is consistently good and the service is always great. I don't drink but I like to sit at the bar with my lady friends and the bartenders are always cool with us sitting there although we don't drink much. Obviously the existence of a theater in this place is amazing and they always have the best events (music, movies, presentations, outdoor film tours) in town. Their strong affiliation with the outdoor community is also quite wonderful and it creates a gathering place for those of us who like to get outside. Anchorage could use more restaurants, and companies, like the Bear Tooth. read more

First time in Alaska, first restaurant I went to. We were three adults and two kids. Atmosphere was very busy and we were kind of given a weird Kansas City shuffle story about the wait and our queue device going off without it being our turn. I don't know. We were about to do take out instead and bounce when a waitress caught us and got us a table. We waited longer for the food. Long enough for a waitress to apologize on her own accord, saying even she felt like it had been too long. We did get our food, however, and it was pretty good. This place has great food for any meal, but my family's favorite is by far the brunch. My husband swears by the Huevos Rancheros with the option to add carne asada (no longer noted on the menu as an addition, but they'll do it if you ask). He has literally gotten this every time we've been to Bear Tooth Brunch for 5+ years and speaks of it in reverent tones. I'm keen on the AK Shrimp & Grits; the shrimp and bacon and pan sauce blend perfectly with the cheesy grits. The kids menu is fantastic and has lots of options. Our toddler demolished the kids breakfast burrito during our last visit with zero complaints. The Brass Monkey and mimosas are also on point. read more

Tequila menu is outta site - wish I could have tried them all(and not woken up with strange tattoos), but I was driving so I didn't get to over indulge as much as I wanted. This is for the Bear Tooth Grill menu, not the Theatre Pub menu. Great Atmosphere, good drink selection, great service, and great food. I had the Pork Colorado Tacos which were amazing. I loved the red sauce combined with the meat on these tacos. They didn't come with cheese though; which I love. I asked the waitress and she said "I love cheese too" and brought me a healthy portion of cheese to add to my taco. I LOVE that kind of attitude and service at a restaurant. Dessert: We split a Key Lime Pie and a Chocolate Ancho-Chile Brownie. The Key Lime pie was one of the best I've had. The brownie was great too although some folks might find cinnamon ice cream a bit odd. I loved it though. Overall, really, really great place. It's no wonder it's packed. My only complaint is that it was darn hard to find a parking spot in the parking lot outside even though it's a big lot. read more

Grill: I wasn't super impressed with the grill side, the service was decent. The garlic fettuccine is absolutely overpowering, I didn't realize there was such thing as too much garlic, but they managed to find it, so bad that when I went to get pizza I saw "garlic oil" and moved on to the next type of pizza. We had some great beer, the raspberry wheat and apple ale, both awesome. Yum. Pizza Side: Yummy...The white pizza is just grand, they get their dough from Moose's Tooth, yum, love it. I haven't had the pleasure of going to a movie yet and filling up on food and beer because they're always showing stupid movies, but I imagine they'll put something decent up here soon. By far the best place to sit at a bar and drink good beer and margarita's...on the grill side that is. The food is great and the staff is friendly. They brew their own and the IPA is the best I ever had. The Beartooth has kind of a granola feel as the staff is young and liberal. This attracts the local granola folks and it makes the place that much more fun. A must go to place! Try the craft beers and the house margarita! Just take a cab! read more

** This is a review strictly for the Bear Tooth Grill (restaurant). I went for brunch on a Saturday morning at 11am -- I was surprised to see this place was hopping. It has a decent interior and I was pleased with the service (except for the surprise upsells-- more on that in a sec). I ordered the breakfast burrito, and confirmed with my server (Maggie) that it came with salsa (pretty standard, right?)... she said it didn't but could bring me some on the side. Ok. I also got some coffee, and my server offered to bring me a single-person french press... fine, I'm half asleep, if that's how you do coffee, great. So the food arrives and the burrito is pretty good (lots of chorizo and a little assorted fruit on the side), but the giant ramekin of salsa is really bland. Like soooo bland it reminded me of watery ketchup. I added some hot sauce to the salsa and that helped. Then I got the check... and oh look, my salsa was a $1 side order, and my coffee was $2.50 for the french press. I guess if I had thought about it when I was ordering the coffee, I would have just said "nah, I'm fine with whatever you have brewing in the pot" (like I noticed other diners drinking). So that was kind of a surprise. And then the salsa side order was just lame... I never got the impression from my server that it cost extra to get salsa, and more importantly, what restaurant serves a breakfast burrito without salsa?! So I'm giving this place only 2 stars because I felt these practices were deceptive. The food wasn't bad and I actually liked the atmosphere a lot, but damn. Those extras felt like I was tricked into buying them and that's kind of lame. I have no problem with servers making an upsell and offering me a premium product but I guess I want to know that I'm adding onto the tab when I ask for something... it's not fun to be surprised when the bill comes, and it's not fun having to feel like I should have quizzed my server when I was ordering (especially before I've had any caffeine for the day!). Overall: recommended, but I also have to say, pay attention when you order and/or ask questions if you're not sure if something is extra. read more

It's not as if this place needs more glowing reviews, but... here goes. This place is a lot more than a restaurant, but let's discuss the food first: The food is solid, which is remarkable given how much of it they turn out, but that's not the whole appeal of this place. The grill side is simply fun. It's a fun place to sit - hell, it's even a fun place to wait to sit (which is a very frequent occurrence). They make a margarita WITHOUT pouring godawful sour mix into it. They have fun specials which, honestly don't push the envelope that much, but are still very tasty. Oh, and the standard menu items are dependably munchable too. Shout out for the cilantro garlic cheese fries (yum). But then there's all the other stuff this place does besides food. There is a movie theater that offers the opportunity to watch a flick while drinking a craft beer and gobbling down a plate of solid nachos. Remarkably, they almost always find you and your marker cone to deliver the grub. Genius. Also, there's the beer. Bear Tooth's sister Moose's Tooth (which makes really good pizza) brews some of the best beer in the state. Their polar pale is awesome. Actually, all their beers are awesome, I just like pale. The Tooth restaurants bring up lower 48 musical talent and charge reasonable ticket prices. I just went and saw Ghostland ($35) at the Bear's Tooth. Anchorage is not that much bigger than ten years, ago. But ten years ago we NEVER had new, cool bands rolling through. In my opinion, these bands are coming through because the Tooth restaurants have established themselves as dependable venues that these bands trust. Simply put, this place enhances the quality of life for me and most of my friends, and we are all extremely grateful. read more

Great pizza! We had the pizza with the BBQ sauce in it. I'm sorry I forgot the name but it really doesn't even matter. When you go to a restaurant, order what they are known for. Obviously this place is THE place to go for pizza. I'm just upset that someone got a Caesar salad...why. You only die once, right? OH WAIT! Don't go off of the pictures! Some people post what is featured on a rotating menu or seasonal menu. I came in thinking I was going to get their famous fish tacos but none to be found. So don't get your hopes up on the pictures! I've been making an annual work trip to Anchorage for the past 11 years. Bear Tooth is a regular stop on our pilgrimage, for the incredible Moose's Tooth pizzas without a wait, fantastic tacos, and this year I discovered their Bear Tooth Basil Vinaigrette salad. Which may be the best salad I've ever had. I came back for it 3 times! While the Grill is excellent, we preferred the Pub this go round. But either is always a winner! read more

Santa's Little Helper is my favorite pizza. It's the best pizza in Anchorage. There are so many different choices and most all I've tried are great. Most every time I order takeout, I'll also order the Cilantro Fries which are to die for. Surprisingly their pizza grew on me more and more whenever I'd have pizza elsewhere considering I'd find myself comparing any other pizza to Bears Tooth. The takeout and online ordering was a disaster. We had food that came without any of the add ons and the guac and chips did not come with chips and instead was substituted as a side of guac. It's two different restaurants in one building... I didn't realize that at first. I sat at Bear Tooth Grill which is burgers, salads, burritos, etc. Very friendly staff though! After realizing I was on the wrong side, I sat down at the Bear Tooth Theatre Pub side which is pizza, Asian burritos, sandwiches, etc. I ordered the mu shu wrap which was MASSIVE! So big. The wrap was alright... a little plain. More dressing/sauce might have made it better. I probably won't order it again. I also ordered the specialty vegetarian pizza slice because I wanted to try the infamous pizza... and it was delicious! The special was the great white buffalo which was cauliflower, kale, tomatoes, peppers, cheese, etc. It didn't sound that great... but it was so yummy! They have awesome lunch deals (slice & salad for a reasonable price- $8.25 for veggie). There were so many items on the menu that I wanted to order! It has a wide variety of dishes to choose from that all sounded amazing. I definitely will come back so I can try more dishes! My waitress was SO nice. All the staff at Bear Tooth (both restaurants) were sooo friendly and provided excellent service! Overall, a great experience! read more

I've lived in Alaska for 15+ years and have been a consistent patron of bear tooth, but after my last two visits I'm sorry to say I'll have to take my money elsewhere. The second to last visit was by far the poorest service I have ever received at a restaurant. I can only imagine our server was new, as not only were we not checked up on for the entire meal, she was unable to help us figure out if we could get a kids menu item made vegetarian. Yet the worst part of the night was when we gave our credit card to the server to pay. We waited about half an hour to get it back, and were getting a little annoyed. I started to notice the waitresses seeming to panic-- sure enough one eventually comes over to tell us they had lost our credit card. After another half hour of the entire waitstaff looking for it, they finally found it. They didn't admit to doing anything wrong, and didn't offer any compensation for our time or panic (we almost cancelled the card). My sister had ordered takeout today, and since she was driving and had her baby with her she asked me to go in to get the food (there was no parking anywhere). I went in, and tried to pay with my sisters card, but couldn't because they demanded to see my ID. Now I understand if that's their policy-- but it clearly isn't because my sister went in (after trying to find parking for another half hour) and they did not ask for her ID. She says they also didn't ask for the ID's of anyone else-- clearly they have no policy or enforcement of any policy. TL:DR Food is fine but service is going continually downhill, to be expected I guess because with success comes arrogance and drops in quality. read more

Caught a cab to the Bear Tooth Grill after arriving by train from Fairbanks 1/20/2013. This was my second stop there, the first being 3/2011. The place was busy so I grabbed a spot at the bar, but they found a booth for me so I could relax after a 12-hour train trip and before a long flight. Had a half-order of the nachos (very good) and a delicious personal-sized chocolate mousse dessert. Perfect portions for a snack-type meal prior to flying. Everyone was very friendly and helpful; it was a great place to hang out for awhile prior to heading for the airport. Maybe one day I'll get back with time to have dinner in the theater; couldn't manage it this trip, but still had a very enjoyable time. Definitely recommend! read more

We usually go here every Friday we can get the chance. If we end up going more than once a week, it's a bonus, not a minus! The staff are really friendly, the food is good, and the beer is excellent. It's usually really busy, but it never takes as omg as I think it should to get a table. The only downside is the parking, so I'd recommend carpooling if you can. I love their habanero chicken skewers, and their burgers always hit the spot. 10/10 always recommend! read more
