This was the first place we were eating in the city. We ordered baked salmon, tostada salad and burrito. The taste of the food was average and we were not impressed. We were expecting more for the price we spent on the food. The place was dark and not well lit. The waitress was polite but no more than that. Looking tired and distant. Soon after the dinner my wife and daughter were having some stomach issues but not me. It looked but might be not true that it was connected to the food we were having and that place. We never returned. I would not come back there again because I feel it is not worth what you are served and the choice on the menu is very poor anyway. read more

The food is always great, our server Alex E. gave us excellent service, always making sure our beverages were always refilled. The Tamales were spot on, the Garlic Fettuccine was awesome, the Garlic Cilantro Fries are a great for starters as always the Polar Ale which is great for any dinner. The appetizers like the chicken skeweres and the grilled calamari will leave a pleasant taste in your mouth. It's always busy though so be prepared to wait. Review is only for brunch - but it was so good that we came back 4 days later to eat some more! Favorite breakfast in Anchorage so far. We ended up here after pulling up to Snow City Cafe and hearing the wait was more than an hour. Got to Bear Tooth soon after they opened and were seated immediately and after trying Snow City, I think the menu here is MUCH more interesting! Service was good enough but the food was amazing. Favorites were the dulche du leche donut (comes out warm, dripping in caramel & sprinkled with toasted coconut), breakfast tacos, churros with caramel sauce, plantain french toast (tastes like banana bread) and key lime pie soda. Also tried the chorizo breakfast burrito and berry french toast (over two different visits.. don't worry I'm not THAT gluttonous) and both were good. I am dying to come back for dinner and a movie! We ate on the grill side and, aside from the service, had a great experience! The beers were excellent (partial to the Hefe myself, but several were tried in our party of 6 and all were good). Our waitress was either very inexperienced or just not very good. We had lots of empty glasses before she was back to ask for another round, our food was brought out for 5 people with a big time lag before the 6th got there and she never checked back to see how the meal was going. I'm willing to look past the service and still give 4 stars, though, because all the food was really excellent and very well priced, especially compared to other prices we experienced around Anchorage. My husband & I paid $65, including tip, for 2 meals and 4 beers. If we are ever back in AK, I'd love to give the movie viewing a go :) read more

Theater side is worth 5 stars, you just can't beat it. Sure the pizza isn't quite as good as Moose's Tooth, but you get to watch a movie with awesome beer. Grill side is what brings this down to 4 stars. The menu is hit & miss, there are some great dishes, but some not so great dishes. Tex-mex dominates but I find the real gems are the items outside of this tex-mex genre. My main qualm is it's LOUD in there, but this could be swayed that I'm typically always seated next to the bar. read more

I love this place - interesting movies and good pizza at the same time. And good beer or wine. The seats/tables in the theatre are comfortable, and eating pizza in the dark works fine. I wouldn't order something like chips and salsa though - at least for me I end up with it all over me if I can't see it. The chocolate mousse cup is great too. I've also eaten in the grill next door. This is one of my go to restaurants in anchorage. Something for everyone here. The legendary tooth brand beer and pizzas. Love the theater pub but honestly not a huge fan of the grill side. Pro tip: save money eating on the theater side. Basically the same ingredients and techniques at a lower cost with about the same level of service. Anchorage's Popular Theater-Pub If you live in Anchorage then you have heard about or eaten at the unique restaurant, Bear Tooth. This local Theater-Pub has tasty food with cheap movies and concerts, however it has a hectic environment and some expensive prices. To the left of the theater-pub they have a small dining area called the Café, where you can eat lunch or dinner. Next to the dining area there is concessions where you can purchase anything off the café menu; in addition to popcorn and candy. It is a dine-in theater with built in tables, so not only can you watch a movie but you can eat as well. The theater opened thirteen years ago on April 14th, 2000 and is located off of Spenard at 1230 West 27th Avenue. It is owned by fellow rock climbers Rod Hancock and Matt Jones who got the theater-pub idea from their previous home Portland, Oregon. Bear Tooth is ultimately known for its theater but you can not have a successful theater-pub without good food. What is on the menu you ask? Bear tooth has a wide variety of foods but it is mainly a pizzeria and a good one at that. They have thirty-one unique kinds of pizza, from veggie to meat. Not only do they have all those tasty pizzas but they also have: cheesy nachos, burritos/tacos, sandwiches/wraps, and fresh salads. Big or small, old or young, there is literally something for everyone. Last but not least, their desserts. From chocolate shakes and tap root-beer floats to my personal favorite, baked chocolate chip cookie a la mode. In addition to there good food, Bear Tooth has super cheap movies and concerts. A single admission ticket is only $3.50. Perhaps you want to go with friends? You can easily reserve a 4 seated booth for $5 per person. Occasionally they have 3D movies which are $5 per person as well. A comparable theater in town charges $10.50 a seat, so you end up saving $6 or more. The concerts are $10 and up, depending on the event. You also do not want to miss the local bands they host and their different film festivals though out the year. The movies at the theater come out a few months after their release date, but it is worth the wait to save money and eat good food. As a result of their good food, and movies, their popularity has increased; which results in Bear Tooth's environment becoming hectic and busy. There is very minimal parking after 5pm and you have to show up early if you want a good seat for the movie. Beware of those long lines that form for the movie and concessions though. Most of the time it is so hectic that when your in the lobby you have to watch out for people like: employees, customers, the elderly, and children or you will get ran over. One way to avoid the rush is to eat in the café, whereas there is only a small waiting list every once in awhile. In short, if you're going to Bear Tooth plan ahead and come early. Regardless of the tasty food at Bear Tooth, it is a little bit on the expensive side. A pizza is $10-28 depending on the size, and almost every meal is $10 or more. Shakes and desserts are the worst, stating at $5 a shake and higher. This would not be such an issue if the portions were a bit bigger. This place has restaurant prices but not theater prices. It is not the place to be if your on a budget or a college student trying to save money. Granted it is a little bit pricey, their good service more than makes up for it. The waiters and waitresses are respectable and well groomed. Most of which are pure breed Alaskans that will tell you anything you need to know about there home town. All in all, Bear Tooth is a local Café and dine-in theater for families, friends and more. It is a great place to go out to lunch, on a date or for a movie night. Not exactly the place for someone on a budget or in a rush, but the food, movies, and concerts make this Alaskan restaurant warm and welcoming. Do not miss there famous "Avalanche" a barbecue chicken pizza and savory salmon tacos. They also offer 9 of their own award winning draft beer that all adults should try. One of the best ideas that I have experienced since being stationed in Europe. The idea that you can watch a movie and enjoy an aperitif or appetizer is super cool! Thus the food on either side; both the main restaurant or cafe by the theater never seems to let you down. A lot of very creative, flavorful, unique, eclectic, and original fusion dishes. This IS one of my first recommendations for any friends or family visiting Anchorage. I know school teachers from the Interior that always come here first when visiting almost every single time. Not only is this establishment unique and original, it's a great place (one of the BEST in Anchorage) to get a bite to eat with friends and family -- lunch or dinner, it doesn't matter! Food was cold and one of the chicken skewers was raw. Would have complained except we never saw our waiter after he took our order. He never smiled or cared. I can make the same mediocre food at home. I come in for an experience and his attitude and lack of service ruined the experience. I didn't bother complaining because what does that get me but a free dinner next time. There won't be a next time. We were taken care of by the bidder so I made sure he got a nice hefty tip and the waiter got nothing. What is sad is Mooses Tooth the sister restaurant was amazing!!! So I was truly disappointed. The two stars are solely for the food. Food was okay, but the service was just bad. I don't understand why people in Anchorage are so willing to eat there since the food was not as great as expected. No greetings at all and the employees look down on you as you're begging to eat at their place. Here's my one gripe: the lack of air conditioning during the last two movies we've seen at Bear Tooth this summer. At first visit this place can be a bit confusing. I know I was at first. There are four different places to eat. First, inside the movie theater. Second, just outside the theater in the lobby area. Third, they have a "To Go" pick up counter. And finally, my favorite, The Grill, full restaurant. It's the area closest to parking with all the windows. My husband and I eat there on the regular. Birthday's, Friday's after work, visitor's in town, I had a bad day, we go to Bear Tooth Grill. As often as I go there I've had only one experience I would classify as bad. The waiter did not put in our food order. My husband was especially dissatisfied because it was my birthday. I think that happened in 2008 and that waiter doesn't work there anymore. So really, this place is great. I think their pricing is right on target. Their menu is fabulous. I like the more healthy stuff like the salads and vegetarian enchiladas, fresh guac. But I also like the blackened halibut tacos and pork Colorado from time to time. My husband lives for the garlic chicken fettuccine, and the cheese burgers. Don't tell anyone, but the first time my husband tried tofu was at Bear Tooth Grill, a couple week ago. They will blacken it and throw it on top of a salad. It's so creamy and good. I put one on his plate and he ate it. So I gave him another one and he ate that too. So good. Bear Tooth Grill uses top quality ingredients. And the vibe is just my style. Relaxed but not lazy.
