We order a plain margarita which was good, a pink drink that I forgot the name of but it's in the picture and it was good. And another margarita that was pineapple flavor, also amazing. I wanted to try this espresso chocolate chip chocolate, and it was actually not bad, the middle of the cookie was soft, the outer part was a bit crunchy. We order food, in a rush so forgot to take a picture in time, but we got a turkey aujus sandwich which was fire, hot crispy fried chicken, and meatballs. All amazing. Came here for brunch on a recommendation from one of my cousins. Upon walking in and hearing the 80's music playing I knew right away this place was going to be a vibe! Started off with a honey lavender latte and a Kouign aman. The Kouign aman was a lot bigger than I've seen previously but extremely tasty! The lavender latte was good but all the honey and lavender syrup sit at the bottom of the mug so do t make the mistake I made and forget to stir it or else the last sip will be pure honey. I got the A Wonderful White Omelet. I was torn between this and the biscuits and gravy and to be honest wish I had gone with the biscuits and gravy. Don't get me wrong, the omelet was very good, it came with turkey bacon that you can sub for a different protein and it comes with toast. The thing is, it being egg whites only, it's not super filling so I was a bit hungry still after finishing. Also had the orange mimosa which I was only able to taste champagne in it so it was definitely strong but still one didn't hurt. Our server was super attentive and patient. My friends and I drove out to my new favorite suburb to see Chorus Line this past weekend. There are so many delicious options for dinner at the Oak Brook mall and we opted for Beatrix. I've been several times to their city locations and they've never led me wrong and this location was no exception. The valet line was a little long when we arrived at 6pm on a Friday, but one inside we were seated promptly for our reservations. Our party of 4 decided to starts with the chicken meatballs appetizer, which was delicious. For my entree I ordered the ahi poke appetizer and it was soooo delicious that I may need to go back to Beatrix soon. Everyone seemed to enjoy the food and drinks (Rose for me). The service was also great and the timing worked out great with arriving just in time for our 8pm show. The show was just as fabulous as dinner (even seeing it for the 53rd time). I'm writing this review for one reason: bizarre menu changes. When Lettuce Entertain sent someone to get Antico back on track, my partner & I noticed that Beatrix got some of that treatment as well. They shared a few menu items, such as the Rigatoni & Whitefish. I'm guessing some training occurred, because the quality at both places increased noticeably. Antico is incredible again, though I've noticed seasonal menu choices I think are less than stellar. Even so--Beatrix's menu changes are far, far worse. Beatrix had, until recently, two dinner options & two breakfast options that were stellar: Buffalo Chicken Meatballs & Sautéed Cauliflower; Vanilla Bean Yogurt & Coffee-Overnight Oats. The chicken meatballs came with a yogurt ranch; the cauliflower had sesame seeds & a really delicious sauce. For whatever reason, some absolute mad lad in that kitchen asked themselves: what if we just switch the base of these recipes? Now they offer Buffalo Chicken Cauliflower & Korean Chicken Meatballs. The new chicken meatballs are fine--a little spicy (that's a good thing), nowhere near as good flavor-wise, but fine. The "buffalo chicken" cauliflower is disgusting; slimy, crunchy cauliflower breaded & coated in buffalo seasoning. It was so disgusting my partner & I felt sick to our stomachs. We couldn't finish the rest of our meal. We both enjoy cauliflower alternatives to meat dishes; this was not even close to edible. The vanilla bean yogurt was already a bit insulting to pay fifteen dollars for--what made it worth it, to me, was how rich & delicious the yogurt was; they also piled on interesting additions, such as pomegranate seeds, crunchy granola, pomegranate honey, & edible violets. I bought the same ingredients to recreate it at home, as well as make my own vanilla bean yogurt--that's how much I loved it. Now, it's Greek yogurt with some granola, orange honey, strawberries & brûléed bananas--even less worth paying for, & exceptionally boring. It's not special Greek yogurt. Just regular. Get some Chobani & some orange flower honey from a local farm & you basically have two weeks of the same dish. Why would I pay fifteen dollars for what I can make at home with no effort? The prior recipe if made at home at least demanded I make my own yogurt. And man, the overnight oats. I love overnight oats; I eat them daily with the same flax & chia combo they add at Beatrix. For whatever reason, they're having trouble finding the right recipe; first it had vanilla bean whipped cream, the oats were coffee-soaked, & brûlée bananas--decadent, maybe too much for breakfast, but really good. The coffee-soaked oats converted me. Then it rotated to basic oats with apples, I believe, for a few weeks. I can't speak to whether that was good, it sounded boring to me. Now, we have overnight oats with turmeric, roasted almonds, & dates. Look, I appreciate the risk involved with innovation. But no one wants yellow oats first thing in the morning. A little turmeric is fantastic. This was way too much. These oats turn the color of vomit, & the additional texture is therefore disgusting. They sprinkled in about four slices of date, which did little to add any sweetness. It was just an overpowering punch of something that didn't belong. The entire dish was 90% yellow vomit slop & 10% "toppings," which were so few I barely ever tasted any. When I made a point to fish them out, & eat spoonfuls that only had toppings, I was done in a few minutes; I was left with an still almost-full container of just yellow slop. Gross, & lazy. Please--whoever is getting those bright ideas in the kitchen--stop. I don't know if it's laziness, financial constraints, or a chef running rampant. We all have limitations. If it's a chef getting "creative," then someone please tell that chef they don't have what it takes, before they ruin the rest of the menu. I'd really like to eat here! Really, I would! Please stop making it so difficult! read more

I met a friend here for a cute little brunch, and we absolutely loved it! I started with a cinnamon roll latte, which was so perfect on a cold winter day, and then got the egg white pesto sandwich. I'm a sucker for crispy ciabatta, but even more then that, THE LEMON RICOTTA... YUM!!! That little pop of citrus was absolutely delicious. The interior was beautiful, filled with warm greens and browns, and our service was super sweet. Honestly, we couldn't have asked for a cuter brunch spot. I had high hopes for this restaurant since I am a big fan of the other lettuce entertain you restaurants in the Chicago area. Unfortunately my hopes were dashed on the rocks... I tried the whipped feta spread which was missing the feta flavor that I know and love. My dining partner and I decided to try the lemon chicken and fish tacos. Both of which were very expensive and bland as can be. There was no flavor, nothing special, and extremely disappointing. The only item I ended up enjoying was the French fries that came with the chicken. We spent nearly 80 dollars on dinner for 2, I think my money would've been better spent at chili's. The service was extremely slow even though there was hardly anyone else there and plenty of staff. I would not recommend this establishment to anyone. read more

Having frequented the Beatrix Downtown, I was looking forward to Beatrix in the suburbs. Unfortunately, the experience was mediocre and I wouldn't recommend coming here. We went relatively early on a Saturday morning, and the service was so slow; my seat had leftover food from the prior patron; and the food wasn't great. Presentation was lackluster compared to what I know of Beatrix Chicago, and the staff really don't care to check to ensure you have everything you need for your meal. With other options for meals nearby, I don't see myself returning to this Beatrix unfortunately. read more

Very hip and cool Other reviews have said it's more like something you would find downtown Chicago and I agree. When you walk in you immediately see comfy looking leather couches and chairs. It appears to be more of a lounge or bar. There is a walk up ordering area that seems to be more breakfast related, such as coffee and pastries. Don't let that fool you though, because there is a restaurant open for dinner but it's further back. Actually, the desk to check in for a table is halfway back from when you walk in. It's a fun place to grab drinks or dinner. I can't review breakfast but it seems like a cool place to grab a coffee with friends in the morning. read more

I've visited Beatrix's Oak Brook location for both breakfast and lunch when working nearby in the area. It's conveniently located on the periphery of the Oakbrook Center mall. To start, I love the boho MCM decor! It gives the restaurant a warm, cozy vibe. The place always seems busy regardless of the day that I'm there, but fortunately it's spacious enough that we've never had to wait more than a few mins for a table. I'm a huge breakfast food fan so I have tried a few dishes there and all were very flavorful, fresh and nicely plated. I'd say my least fav was their version of the avocado toast just due to the thickness of the bread they use; but this is totally my personal preference. I loved their interpretation of Shakshuka though...the tomato sauce had a bright level of spice that was perfect for my taste! We also had lattes at one visit and they were nice for Chicago winter weather: warm, creamy and just the right amount of caffeine! Our servers have always been attentive yet laid-back, and were observant enough to let us discuss work when needed. Tip: they also offer private meeting rooms if you're looking to book for a party or event. Beatrix gets two thumbs up from this foodie! read more

The southwest salad was so good I've already tried recreating it at home. For dinner I had the fried chicken and my husband had the filet with lobster. The lobster was melt in your mouth. I don't think I've had anything here that wasn't good. For a while I always ordered the wild mushroom teriyaki which is so yummy but got tired of it. It's a bit too sweet. But the wild mushrooms are delicious. I love their brunch here. It is always packed. I did enjoy the avocado toast but I really loved the shakshouka. It's not spicy at all, so don't let that deter you (at least not in my opinion..). Their lattes are delicious but I always order everything half sweet because they go a bit overboard sometimes. I did order an ice latte today and it came in the skinniest cup I'm sure if I poured it out it would be half the amount of the hot lattes my friends ordered. Still good but probably not worth the price of $6 for a tiny cup that I downed in a minute. All in all, I do love it here and it's always fully booked with city vibes. My wife brought me here for my birthday dinner, which was quite a feat because whenever we go out as a family, we have to be very intentional. My wife is vegan, my mother has a gluten allergy, my daughter is an incredibly picky eater, and I am an extreme foodie and elitist eater . So, there's a lot of balancing that needs to happen to satisfy everyone's palates. This place was wonderful. I love how you come in, and there is a casual seating and waiting area. Our setting was one big table with chairs on one side and a very comfortable sort of couch on the other, which made for a great family experience. The vibe is youthful and busy, but not chaotic. The Brussels sprouts and buffalo meatballs were consumed just as quickly as they arrived at the table, and we ordered another of each. My wife enjoyed the vegan teriyaki bowl, which she said was filling and had lots of flavor. I had the short rib, which was everything I wanted: well-seasoned, tender, and paired extraordinarily well with the sweet potato. It was a great dish! My mother was overwhelmed (in the best way) by the number of gluten-free options and loved the fish tacos. My daughter demolished her chicken fingers and french fries. For dessert, I had the caramel pie, and since it was my birthday and I INHALED that thing (it was so good), I ordered another slice to go. I 100% recommend this place, especially if you have different dietary needs in your party. I strongly recommend making reservations, though, as the place is busy. PATIENCE: THE EPILOGUE (**review update from 7/29**) After a manager reached out to apologize for a previous visits' shortcomings, we decided to give Oak Brook's Beatrix another shot. I'm happy we did, as the food was better and service much improved. Once again we started with the kung pao cauliflower ($9), a healthy low-carb choice that's got some sneaky spiciness to it. We also split a ceasar salad ($13), a reimagined version with arugula, capers, and a Greek yogurt dressing. My chicken bebe ($18) was a juicy and flavorful breaded cutlet that came with roasted asparagus in a white wine reduction. My wife's steak chimichurri ($27) got rave reviews: 8oz of skirt steak cooked perfectly mid-rare w/kennebec fries and a garlic aioli. It was a solid cut of beef and I loved the grilled shishito peppers served as an accompaniment. Bread = 4.5 Circuses = 4 Fortunately, we got a chance to enjoy dessert this time around. The strudel-like blueberry pie ($8) was delicious, but it was brought out at room temp. Same goes for the butterscotch oatmeal cookie ($3). I'm sure you can request these to be heated up, though if we're being honest they ought to be served warm to begin with. * TL;DR * Across two visits, this Beatrix has proven that they deserve to hang with the rest of the LEYE crowd. Haven't been here for several years and so decided to try it for brunch. We had a reservation and were seated on time. IT WAS INCREDIBLY NOISY due to music and lack of surfaces to absorb noise. Food was served quickly, but no one ever came by to check on us. I had the breakfast burrito which was not very good -- tasted like it was mostly powdered eggs and hash brown potatoes. My husband had the steak chimichurra with eggs. He said it was okay. When we asked for the check our server pointed to the QR in the plastic stand on the table. We paid and left. My wife said she wanted to go to Beatrix, so I happily agreed since I like trying new places. Since it's in the vicinity of the mall, the parking and crowds can get a little crazy, so keep that in mind. The server told us it was happy hour, so appetizers were half off. We ordered the cauliflower risotto cakes as an app. For our main entrees, we ordered the ahi tuna poke bowl and whitefish scampi. The food did take quite a while to come out, but it was busy with it being a holiday week, so it's understandable. The cauliflower risotto cakes were very good; crisp on the outside, mushy on the inside. The poke bowl was decent; not the most flavorful poke bowl I've had, but it felt fresh and healthy. The whitefish was very good; it was missing a starch, but the fish was meaty and flavorful, and had a slight spicy kick to it. The bill came out to $78.50 with tip, which is higher than we'd normally spend for a meal out. Unfortunately the receipt copy I took home wasn't itemized, but after leaving we began to wonder if they actually applied the happy hour half-off on the appetizer. Who knows. Our most recent visit we had the Straight A salad and was very disappointed in their food quality and favor profile. The salad lacked flavor and very little dressing if at all. The Honey Brussel sprouts were old and delivered cold but passable. The salmon was old or fishy. The waiter didn't care about service as he had a bigger table to wait on next to us. I had seen Beatrix mentioned on Dwell but didn't realize we had one in the suburbs - oops! I was here for dinner on a tight timeline and they had me in and out in less than 30 minutes. As others have mentioned, the layout is confusing, but once you find the host station (over on the left) you'll be fine. I had the vegan pozole and the cauliflower mac and cheese (listed under "starters" with a "Happy Hour" Moscow Mule. The pozole and the mac and cheese were both fine; vegetarian pozole is a treat and I have it whenever I can. The mac and cheese was missing something and I wasn't sure what; the cauliflower added a nice crunch, the crispy crumb topping was copious, and the noodles did a great job catching the cheese; I tried pepper and it helped. An app portion with the soup was perfect; an entree size would have been too much. The Mule comes in glass, not a mug and it wasn't very gingery; I didn't finish it. Service was quick and pleasant. Do be careful when you head for the restrooms; they're located so you're crossing right in front of waiters leaving the kitchen, so look both ways or you may have a collision. read more
