I came here for the Chicago restaurant week lunch menu. The restaurant interior is very warm and inviting. Definitely a popular lunch spot for a lot of workers in the Oak Brook area. I made a reservation for 12 pm and the restaurant was already pretty packed on a Tuesday. Service was friendly and inviting. They're taking care of a lot of tables but still came by a few times to check in. I started off with the whipped feta appetizer, which was more sweet than I expected. The honey gave it a nice depth and the texture was amazing. It reminded me of mascarpone with how creamy it was. The chips made out of seeds gave the dish a nice texture and crunch. The chicken ginger kale salad was light and refreshing. Every piece of the salad was the perfect bite size and easy to pick up, which I appreciated. I loved the hints of coconut when you took a bite. The chicken was perfectly tender as well. The star of this meal was probably the caramel pie. It's the perfect silky texture and oh so decadent. I would come back to Beatrix just for this pie. Great option for brunch! I love their coffee so much! I had the cinnamon croissant cookie latte and made my husband get the s'mores mocha (so I could have some) and both were delightful! I also really enjoyed my egg scramble. Service was both friendly and quick. It was a bit loud but nothing terrible. It was likely due to being very busy on a Saturday morning. Conveniently located and nice ambiance inside. We started with the guacamole. It was satisfactory, but could've used more seasoning and more chips for dipping. We asked for a few more chips. Our server put in an order for a plate of chips - extra $3.95 on bill - without telling us. We did not need a full order of chips for the two spoonfuls guac we had left. For entrees, we tried the whitefish, the primer burger and the short ribs. My son enjoyed his burger and rated it an 8/10. His fries were tasty, but they came in small pieces, like he got the fries from the end of the bag. My whitefish was good, but needed more seasoning. The mashed potatoes were delicious and I liked the sauce. The short rib dish was the best thing I tried all night. The meat was tender and flavorful as well as the brussel sprouts and potato puree. I took my teenage niece and nephew here for lunch because I had an appointment in the area. It was pretty busy for an early Monday lunch. But I mean it's by the corporate and mall area so it makes sense. Our waitress was really nice. We got the Brussels spouts to share and that was really good! I've been here several times and I love coming here for lunch!! It's a very nice lunch spot without being too fancy. I've brought my infant several times and they are very accommodating. It seems like a lot of people take work lunches here too. I've heard the happy hour is good. It's always busy. I haven't needed a reservation but I can see why you may want one for a larger group. Great spot for brunch and coffee/desserts! Service and ambiance are casual. It's a decent location for hanging out with a smaller group over brunch and picking up coffee and a muffin if you need a break from shopping around Oakbrook Center. My favorite desserts here are the lemon burst cookie (which is huge, I recommend splitting with a friend) and lemon angel food cake. I usually like to pair my snacks with a simple latte though they do have fun flavor options you can add to your coffee beverage or juices if you're not into caffeine. In Chicago proper Beatrix has always been a popular option but admittedly not my first choice. In Oak Brook Center, Beatrix is an anchor restaurant that is right on the outer parts of the shopping center. I prefer this location because it's less of the hustle and bustle since in the burbs. Bottom line: Loft-look night club crashes into college cafeteria. Came to Beatrix Restaurant, Coffee Bar, and Market for a birthday brunch (Not sure about the coffee bar part nor the market actually though they do have what looks like a real alcohol bar.) Visually, it is an inviting vibe, but with rather loud ambient noise amplified by lots of hard surfaces, and overlaid with an eclectic mix of interdecadal beats you can just make out floating on top of the din (Thompson Twins "Doctor, Doctor " happens to be the ditty of the moment). Aside from the décor, the place may remind you of any large institutional cafeteria you've experienced. The best thing about this place for me is the mid-century modern-influenced décor and the use of warm lighting and palette to soften the mostly hard surfaces--and my sandwich bun and bacon. Our servers were all very nice but inexperienced, tentative, and still learning the biz but trying very hard. Ok, the food: Nouvel-blah. Smaller, non-abbondanza portions for the money. Trying very hard, a little pretentious, but you gotta justify the prices--and image is what matters here (on that note, servers wearing blue jeans and dirty gym shoes severely takes some luster off the upscale image). My $14 breakfast sandwich (see pic for its apathetic delivery) did not include any side. THE saving grace was...the bun...OK, and the bacon. The bun a luscious, buttery complement to the tangy, crispy bacon and scrambled eggs. Props where props are due but you think for $14 you'd get a few potatoes thrown in. Surprisingly though, the coffee service, though it appears in the name, was quite unremarkable. Servers brought out coffee-filled cups, not what you typically find in a coffee house but more like someone's china set, sloshing as they tried to balance the tray with six cups on it, then placing the coffee in front of us, as opposed to, placing the cups on the table and then pouring the coffee. Interesting. Overall, I added a star for the very, very nice servers, the bun, and the bacon. I would come back if someone else was paying. In summary, If you are looking for a chill, satisfying vibe, this is not it, but if you're looking for a sensorially stimulating experience, this may just be your cup of single‑origin micro‑lot coffee--if you can find the coffee bar. Brunchin' with my bestie at this spot was a total win! I loved how simple and easy the breakfast menu was -- made ordering a breeze. We split a chicken sandwich and a waffle, both were delicious! This was my first dining experience at Beatrix, but as I told our server, this won't be my last! I also told her that I would order the same exact meal for my next visit. This was a large, comfortable restaurant at Oakbrook Center. I reserved a table through the website but there was plenty of seating outside (too hot) as well as inside the restaurant. We were seated in the back by the kitchen where we had a view of some young people probably dining before Homecoming ( how sweet). We split an app of Kennebeck fries with preserved lemons, Calabrian chiles and aioli. It was crisp and delicious. I nibbled on a pepper, it was spicy. My entree was the slow cooked short rib with succulent tender meat in a sweet and hot sauce (red chili caramel) and some roasted Brussels sprouts. It was on top of a creamy potato. I thought the hot and sweet sauce, and the short rib was so good. My friend enjoyed their hot honey chicken. The service was friendly but it lagged a bit. I really enjoyed this breakfast, my waiter and the decor. I was in and out. Not quick enough to feel rushed but fast enough to feel taken care of. I tried the hazel nut chocolate latte and the egg white omelet. The bacon ended up tasting like crispy oil but the rest was amazing. The coffee had just enough flavor while keeping its strength. The omelet filled with spinach and cheese was topped with a salsa. The mixture was delicious and fresh. I needed a little heat so I added tabasco. I also added jelly to my toast. Delish. The place was really nice, super nice aesthetic and atmosphere in there. My partner got there first to which he mentioned the table was unstable but we got a new seat immediately right after. I ordered a hazelnut mocha latte and my partner ordered a chai latte. Both extremely delicious. I got the shakshuka with brown sugar bacon and he got a burrito with hasbrowns. They were both absolutely delicious, the shakshuka tasted amazing and the bacon was crispy, sweet and delicious. I started with a fresh juice; strawberry, watermelon and black cherry. My husband ordered the eggs your way; scrambled with white cheddar, hash browns, brown sugar bacon and wheat toast. I just had to try the lemon pancakes; made with ricotta, light and fluffy with blackberries and lemon syrup. Tried Beatrix Oakbrook today because of great experiences with the Chicago location. Our server tried to make things right but the output from the kitchen was mediocre. Steak and eggs featured steak with no discernible seasoning. The wheat toast was excellent. We ordered 3 iced coffees at 2 different times and the drinks looked and tasted completely different. Shakshuka and an omelette were well executed. An order of yogurt parfait and berry compote resulted in a scoop of plain yogurt in a bowl and a separate bowl for the delicious compote. Our server recognized the error and delivered the correct yogurt dish which was delicious but it was too late for us to fully enjoy. Again our server was great but not supported by the kitchen. He made an adjustment to the final bill but our experience was not what we expected from the Beatrix brand. read more

Expensive but delicious juice (pomegranate / passion fruit), an embarrassment of fancy-looking (yet questionable) pastries, comfy worn leather furniture, and a comfortable bustle of suburban bougie people waiting for brunch. This was my second time dining in at this Beatrix location. My opinions about Beatrix's food hasn't changed since the first time. Both times, I felt that the food was disappointing, especially for the price point. I frequent Beatrix for their coffee and pastries, which I highly recommend. However, I cannot say the same for the food. The menu has lots of options. This time, we ordered the hot honey brussel sprouts, slow cooked short rib and hot honey fried chicken. The hot honey brussel sprouts were perfectly crispy and the hot honey sauce is so good. Unfortunately, the short rib lacked flavor. The different flavors of the dish from the sweet potatoes and red chili caramel weren't cohesive. The fried chicken was well fried, but lacked flavor. The kale and apple slaw was not slaw - it was sliced apple, radish and kale tossed together. The cornbread was the best thing on the dish. My family enjoyed the fries so much that another order was requested when the entrees came. 3 of my family members tried the spirit-free mocktails, and they were pleasantly surprised at how tasty and refreshing they were. For my entrée, I couldn't decide between the Wild Mushroom Teriyaki Bowl and the Faroe Island Salmon Bowl, so I asked our server for a recommendation. She said she enjoyed the flavor of the mushroom bowl the best but recommended adding salmon to it. That's exactly what I did, and I was not disappointed. My Dad typically orders the Mushroom & Quinoa Burger, and though he always enjoys it, after I let her taste my mushroom bowl, he said he would order that next time. I took a slice of Hummingbird Cake home. Our server described it as a carrot cake with warm spices, and she was spot on. It was a great way to cap off an already tasty meal. While I don't recall our server's name, I must say that she was extremely knowledgeable. She was able to answer every question we asked (and our table asked A LOT lol), but she answered in great detail. Met a friend here for brunch and who knew it was the hottest spot in town??? Okay well she did which is why she made a reservation weeks in advance, and I recommend you do the same! I couldn't believe when I showed up just before 11 am on a Sunday the place was PACKED! Luckily we were seated within minutes of our reservation and the table was spacious! Everything was fantastic. The coffees were incredible. My friend had a cinnamon roll latte and got a dulce de leche iced latte to go. I had the iced hazelnut oat mocha and it was so creamy and delicious!! Funny enough we ordered the exact same thing to eat: their bacon cheddar and egg sandwich! I was most intrigued about the brown sugar bacon so I took a bite of that first and it was SO good. The sandwich was great and I used the aioli without finding it spicy (and I find everything spicy). We both ordered hash brown sides as well which were large portions. I would recommend if you like yours crispy to ask for them crispy. As you can see in the attached pic, ours came out with varying amounts of crispiness. This Queso Dip was a meal in and of itself! I opted to not eat it with fried chips and instead was provided gratis corn tortillas. The pistachio crusted whitefish was perfectly prepared-flaky and light. I suggest that you squeeze lemon to cut the salt. My server Jack was not attentive enough as I had to call over another wait staff member twice, but he was pretty swamped so I still say 5 stars! The real on the menu is the "Oh my! Caramel Pie." The box is cute too! It works out being a better price. The lemon was going to be my favorite ( $5.95) - it was up there but don't ask me to pick favorites when it comes to cookies.
