Bedouin Tent is a gem of Middle Eastern (read: Jordanian) authenticity in the sea of NYC Middle Eastern food mediocrity. I can't underscore how much I love this place. Always affordable and feels like you are eating freshly made food from someone's kitchen. You will find real Jordanian food here (not the fraudulent crap that "The Halal Guys" serve). With the rapid gentrification of Atlantic Avenue, Bedouin Tent has persevered and I hope it never leaves due to high rent. It is *very* hard to find fresh, authentic, amazing Jordanian food in NYC - compared to Dearborn, Michigan, for example. When you enter, there is always an Uncle making fresh pita bread - which is always freshly baked, perfectly chewy and served warm. Favorites: 1) Falafel Sandwich: It is large, filling and under $5. A total steal and so delicious and healthy. 2) LENTIL SOUP: This is my favorite item on their menu. It's the real deal. Smooth, creamy, served with lots of lime/lemon and olive oil. If we are in the area and hungry, I always try to grab a bite here. :) Never a bad choice for either a sit in lunch on the adorable patio or a quick bite to grab and go. Love hanging out in the garden during the summers, the trees offer cooling shade from the heat and the umbrellas offer protection from the falling leaves. The seating is plastic lawn chairs so it's decent enough for an hour lunch. My parents loved this place and that's coming from restaurant folks! The Meguez Plate is by far my favorite! They have freshly baked warm pitas brought to the table with your meal and it's lovely. This place really knows how to cook fresh and delicious! Food was okay, but nothing particularly special. The only thing that really stood out was the pita and hummus. Very warm, fresh delicious pita and nice creamy hummus. Otherwise, both the falafel and merguez plates were just mediocre. We sat in the back garden area which is quite cute however I was eaten alive by Mosquitos (not the restaurant's fault, of course) and somewhat grossed out when a mouse scampered by. Everything here is solid, but the bread (which is in many of their menu items) is out of this world excellent, probably owing to their incredible oven. Bedouin Tent Restaurant is a cute little Mediterranean/Middle Eastern influenced joint in Dtown Brooklyn. The menu is simple - with salads, sandwiches and plates for VERY reasonable prices. Their food is incredibly fresh (homemade pita bread, holla!) and with quality ingredients. And that brings us to: the Falafel Sandwich. Simple and done right. Their homemade chick pea croquets are encased in a fresh pita right out of the oven and topped with lettuce, tomato and your preference of tahini and/or hot sauce. I recommend getting it all. Aside from their sandwiches, I recommend getting their version of pizza... called the "pitza". With tomato, cheese and your choice of toppings. It's great! And last but not least, I thoroughly enjoyed their Semolina dessert. Topped with a simple syrup (I think) and almonds, this was a nice treat to end my meal with. Spectacular Mediterranean food! The "plate" meals are super filling and worth it. I ordered the leg of lamb plate and my girlfriend ordered the chicken plate. Both meats were cooked perfectly and coated with herby goodness. Also the house made hummus was super super creamy and delicious. Also the babaganoush was spot on, something I rarely order because it's never done well but they got it right here. My real favorite of the night was pita, fresh crunchy and chewy. You really can't beat a place that can make their own pita from scratch!!! A few of us came here for lunch on a Sunday and saturday at their back patio. It's not the greatest patio but it did serve it's purpose as the weather was really nice that day and we weren't being distracted with by a passerby walking on the street as we're eating. I ordered their grilled chicken sandwich with tahini. Unfortunately the chicken was a bit rubbery and it wasn't grilled as advertised--very disappointing. Instead, it tasted more like saute chicken with paprika, nothing special. Normally, I would have given them a three-star rating for this, but when I had the chance to try both my friends Pitzas, I was immediately taken back and thought WOW! Their Green Pitza that include leeks, scallions and fenugreek with light mozzarella cheese was so good. It had a light onion smell but not too strong with a mild after taste. They also did not skimp out on the toppings so the pitza was really rich and cheesy. Their Lambajin middle eastern pitza with lamb, onion, tomato, parsley and spices was just as yummy. It wasn't gamey and left a sweet after taste from the veggies, tomato and spice. Probably one of my favorite meals when I visited the east coast. This quaint little establishment is a must-visit when you're in the Brooklyn area. And for the prices, you can't go wrong. I had the spicy lamb "Pitza" and it was hot and delicious. It's a pizza style dish where the crust, I'm assuming, is made of pita bread. Very hearty and perfectly spiced. I was pleasantly surprised to find this establishment just 3 blocks away from work! Some days when its hectic at the office I'll stroll over for lunch, relax on the patio and order some mint tea. As for the food, I've tried the spinach and cheese pie (which is actually just a calzone with tons of spinach), the harira soup (vegetarian and hearty) and the falafel sandwhich/pita which is just about the best falafel I've ever had, my only suggestion would be to add some hot sauce (sriracha pls!). The fresh pita is really the best I've ever had, it has exceptional texture and flavor. And if you want to just get it to try it's only $1 so why not? The menu is decently priced, you'll be able to have your fill of food for just a few dollars, there are plenty of items (salads, hummus, tabbouleh, soup) for around $4.50. The waitstaff is friendly and didn't scold me when I had to run across the street to get cash since I happened to miss the huge CASH ONLY sign. All things considered, I love eating/hanging out on the patio here and would recommend this place to anyone looking for an exceptional falafel sandwhich or a calm getaway in the middle of your day. I like this place. Good falafel, lentil soup, a spicy lamb sausage sandwich (I agree with Ann T. that it is dry and you should ask for tahini on the side), salads...all of the basics are above average. Like most of the falafel places I have found in Brooklyn, they make their own pita and serve sandwiches rolled up rather than stuffed. There are these pizza like things that seem a bit pricey but look really tasty that i want to try. There is outdoor seating and I really love drinking cold water out of metal cups for some reason. It is indeed tent-like inside but I mostly ignore the decorations in there. They give you a little bit of cake with your bill. Generally a nice staff. 4 stars for above average falafel and the like. Doesn't have anything so special that convinces me to up it to 5 stars, but go try it. It would make a good regular falafel spot for someone in the neighborhood. Munch! read more

Delicious Mediterranean cuisine! My friend and I had the chicken plate which included grilled chicken, salad, babaghanoush, hummus and pita bread. The portions were huge! Definitely worth the price. This place has amazing pitzas. I was skeptical at first, pizza on pita bread, why would that be a good idea? But it is. I had the lambajin, which was finely ground lamb cooked almost into a spread, and it came out steaming on a big pizza platter. The hummus was also delicious and we devoured it immediately using extra pita and the crusts from the pitza. It's important to note, while it looks like a to-go counter from the outside, there's actually a lot of seating inside and it's quite nice. They have big cloth tapestries up on the wall which help dampen the sound and the place is warm and toasty inside. They also have a patio out back for when the weather is nice. If you come, get something with lamb, it's a Yemeni neighborhood and there are lots of local butchers bringing in quality cuts of lamb so this place has good ingredients to work with. read more

The restaurant has spacious seating area inside and in their patio. With the traditional cloth hangings that have art sewn, the place definitely feels like a middle eastern relaxed cafe. Service is good, the staff are very attentive. Prices are great but they only accept cash. We ordered the chicken shish kabob plate and the lamb plate. The bread that accompanies was not the traditional middle eastern pita bread, rather a naan-like bread (reminded me of Indian naan). Each plate came with salad (lots of it!), an option between baba ghanoush or hummus, and one bread. I think the salad took up most of the plate, could have given more space for the hummus or the meat. Also, I wasn't a fan of the bread. The baba ghanoush and hummus were decent, the salad was fresh, but the chicken could have been better. I had heard really good things about this restaurant from a co-worker at work, and was excited to try this place! After not being able to get here for about a year, I finally was able to visit a few weeks ago for date night. The atmosphere of the restaurant is small and feels authentic with the décor and style of music playing. I really do not think the restaurant had heat, the cold was literally unbearable to the point that I wore my coat like a blanket and my toes were freezing cold for some time after leaving. It really ruined a lot of the experience for me. To start, I ordered the harira soup which was absolutely delicious and helped keep my mind off of the cold. Truly so so sooooo good. It was very flavorful and filling, I think one bowl could have easily been my entire meal. We ordered hummus and baba- ghanoujh, both of which were probably among the best I have ever had. The pita here is HUGE, was sorry I couldn't fit an entire piece in a picture! We also tried a falafel platter, but did not enjoy it. The falafel was flavorless and very dry, so dry that it was hard to swallow so we each just had one. We split the chicken pitza which was good...but just good. I wouldn't say it was anything to rave or write home about. We also tried the lamb platter which we both felt was pretty ordinary as well. Overall, the majority of the food was good, but it was not special enough to make me want to go back. If in the area or asked to meet here for a meal, I would have NO hesitation, it was tasty. The falafel here is downright delicious. It's seasoned really well and very flavorful, unlike a lot of other places. The salad and hummus that come with the falafel is also very good. The pita bread comes out piping hot and fresh! How can I go back to eating the packaged pita bread sold in stores? Idk. Thankfully, this is a place I can frequent a lot because of its great price and portions. My friend had the lamb sandwich and she enjoyed her dish as well. The food here was absolutely amazing! I will certainly return. I had entered before but left thinking this was just a small store front pita joint. Foolishly, I missed the whole beautiful back room! In the summer it looks like they have a great yard with outdoor seating! The tapestry on the walls is beautiful and there is enough space between the tables. We had the spinach pie because the one next to us looks delish -- and it was. Soft cheese and bread, well done but not soggy spinach. Mmmm. The mixed salad plate was on the pricier ($10) end but totally worth it. So many flavors on one plate! Fun to mix them around -- and the mint yogurt was great on the other dishes. The spicy lamb merguez was pretty good. It wasnt fatty at all and had nice flavor, but I thought the salad was where it was at. We thought it was going to be BYOB based on some other reviews, but as of April 2015 it is not. No booze allowed. NO LONGER BYOB. I will totally go as a destination again but knock off a star for service. They rushed us pretty hard even before they had begun closing. Didn't understand the rush. Overall, highly recommended. The chicken was delicious and the pita bread was probably one of the best I have had in a while, crunchy on the outside but soft and fluffy on the inside. Both the baba ganoush and hummus were tasty but I thought it could have used a little more seasoning. My friend ordered the same meal and she really enjoyed it as well. We also ordered a piece of baklava to share because it looks really delicious in the window. We weren't left disappointed because it tasted just as delicious as it looked, not too sweet with a light and flakey texture. Bedouin Tent is no frills, has a super laid back atmosphere and consistently good middle eastern food. I love the lentil soup which comes with a large piece of hot naan straight from the oven ($5). The Moroccan mint tea is always strong and pipping hot as well. Everything else I've had on the menu from the chicken to the lamb has been seasoned well and the portion sizes are generous. I've been going to this place since the '90s. I continued to go even though the owner changed--still rocked. The fresh pita, made-to-order is the best in NYC, and the lentil soup (the light, pureed variety with a squeeze of lemon) is worth keeping the place open for all by itself. This is not a grandiose claim, by the way, it's just the truth. The long-standing kitchen and wait staff is eternally friendly. So I visited for the millionth time the other day--had a lentil soup and pita, of course. Shoot me if it wasn't the best version of their soup I could remember--just like they used to make it in the old days-- slightly more robust in flavor and thicker, smooth in texture, not too salty and no crazy spices. Its masterful simplicity is impressive. The man who brought it to me looked familiar...and the I realized it was Waleed, the original owner! It was such a wonderful surprise to see him again. So if you need a reason to return (again) to Bedouin Tent (I still call it Moustache...pronounced Moo-STASH from the old days) Waleed is back! Bedouin Tent is still one of the best, most welcoming restaurants in New York City. And in a neighborhood that's now all swimming pools and movie stars, it is one of the last islands of Brooklyn authenticity in a sea of hipsterism and high-rises. And by the way, they have lots of other wonderfully healthy food on the menu. My vegan brother loves it here! (It's hard to find a vegan/vegetarian-friendly restaurant in Boerum/Cobble Hill where the food doesn't taste like a Grateful Dead record wrapped in an empire-waisted hemp dress). I really got lucky when trying this place. When we first walked in, it was so warm and the smell of zaatar was really strong- in a good way. The seating space is a little small, but luckily they had room for us. We ordered the zaatar pita, which was WAY too strong with the zaatar. The reason why I got it was because my dad used to make his own olive oil/zaatar mix as I was growing up, but this stuff was way too intense. We also had the chicken kebab, which was slammin. It was so good, the chicken was spiced well and moist and the techina was really fresh and tasty. We also had the lambajin, or lamb pizza, which was also really delicious. The entire meal was really good, and I remember it being somewhat cheap, but they lose a star for service - it was really, really hard to get our servers attention. Man. I was let down here. I'm HUGE on Mediterranean food, and anytime I go anywhere finding bomb Mediterranean food is high on my list of priorities. I was hoping that the volume of good ratings here would lead me to where I wanted to be, but i didn't get that. The hummus was fine, but comparatively flavorless to others I've had. The falafel seemed a little stale and not fresh and crunchy, and the stuffed grape leaves had really good flavor but texture was very mushy. The only thing that was really good was the pita bread.
