Visiting friends in Lynchburgh and decided to stop in for lunch and a few beers yesterday. Got a buffalo blue burger and tried the crab rangoons and the bavarian pretzel appetizer. Food was excellent, burger cooked perfectly and tasty, crab rangoons had some kind of homemade filling that differs from what I'm used to, but was a happy suprise! Pretzels were pretty standard but not bad. Beer selection was huge and I tried a delicious rainbow sherbet sour beer and an average ipa. The customer service was on point, the woman helping us kept our beers full and checked in a few times to make sure we were doing ok or if we needed anything. Had the pleasure of having dinner, a couple beers, and watching sports with some of my friends at Beer 88 last night. The restaurant is very clean and in a quiet safe neighborhood. They have a parking lot and there is ample street parking. I had the Shroom Burger medium well, and it was delicious! Very juicy and the special sauce in the plastic cup, I dipped my fries and my burger in it. They also have a wide variety of beers from different states. (I'm from New Jersey so it was nice to see beers from PA and NY on the list). Our waitress was very kind and she also changed the TV channel so we could watch football. My favourite place in Lynchburg to eat! I'm here on a regular basis and have had each burger multiple times. The staff is friendly and the food is great! Every couple weeks they have a Tap Takeover which is where a brewery rep comes in with 6 different beers and you can talk to the rep and normally get free stuff (stickers, coasters, pint glasses) at no extra charge. If you've tried here once and it wasn't satisfactory or enjoyable, try at least once more. No place is perfect, so on the rare occasion your burger isn't on par, just try again. read more

I was introduced to Beer 88 about two years ago, and I always enjoy my time there. Yes, mistakes were made with a past incident but it does not change my opinion on experiences there. The food has never let me down, and I am always satisfied with whatever burger I choose. I especially like the burger of the month, particularly the Oktoberfest one! I've never had a bad drink experience here. Not too sure whats up with all the reviews on beer. I always receive mine quickly and cold, and I always enjoy the recommendations. I've never once had an issue with a server or the owner. They've always been welcoming and willing to answer questions and provide suggestions. I work as a server when I'm on break from school (Not in Virginia), and have found no issues with the servers here. Maybe I am getting lucky or something, but I am always satisfied. I've introduced many friends to Beer 88 and each time they want to go back for more. I personally believe one must try a place for themselves before deciding on its quality and service. Beer 88 is a great local establishment that has just enough options on the menu. I personally love their black bean burger, and can honestly say that it is one of the better vegetarian burger options in the area. Servers are often irritated with simple questions and not courteous or respectful. My frustrations with Beer 88 increased when I heard of the way they treated a paying customer who paid with quarters. Since then, the way they have behaved is unprofessional and unapologetic. Since apparently companies like Google Reviews and Facebook are more interested in protecting companies' interests than the views of the public, all of the frustrated reviews in other places have been removed. I personally refuse to support and do business with a place that not only provides subpar service and food, but also makes a practice of publicly shaming customers and behaving in an unprofessional manner. You know what they say about green eggs and ham? That was this burger. It didn't look right at all. When I told the owner about this, she scoffed at me and said "that's how eggs look in Virginia." I had breakfast at some place in Virginia Beach and that most certainly was NOT true! Not to mention, my beer was flat, nasty and warm. Once again, was told that's the way it's to be served. The problem is not the bad press they got for poor service and treatment of customers and being a Chinese takeout place trying to capitalize on the craft beer craze. It's the mediocre offerings. Although, sometimes they will have some wackier options (like peanut butter as a topping) that i wouldnt recommend.
