So far I've only had the spicy Jack (jalapeño and pepper jack cheese on the burger *Amazing) and the Smoking Gun- bacon and bbq sauce (I'm pretty sure I got the names right?) And some bbq wings. I have been a faithful customer to beer 88 for two years. I will not be returning to beer 88 after today. I ordered five burgers and gave a generous tip but when I got home one of the burgers only had six sweet potato fries and they did not have any sauce in two of the containers. I called back to ask about getting more fries and sauce since we paid extra, but the manager argued with me, accused me of being a liar, and then hung up on me two different times while I was trying to politely explain my situation. My meal was a 5 but DH's was only a 3.5. I ordered burger 88. It's a very juicy chuck burger topped with balsamic onion jam, bacon and Swiss cheese. Ah-may-zing! The onion jam was sweet and tangy, a perfect compliment to the salty bacon. Juice dripped from the burger with every bite. DH ordered the gurberburger which is topped with peanut butter, mayo, bacon and cheddar. He gives it a 3.5 , but admits that part of that is his own fault. The peanut butter was a little overwhelming, overpowering the rest of the flavors. The fries were perfectly done, crispy on the outside with a fluffy interior. And don't EVEN get me started on the beer selection! I started with a nice coriander gose and then transitioned to a mango session IPA. DH had a delicious stout tones of burnt, dark chocolate. Never thought I would order a peanut butter and bacon cheeseburger but I had one here and it was great. Not only was the flavor good but the burger was really juicy will not being under cooked. I also love the dipping sauce that came with the sweet potato fries and onion rings. Sweet potato fries were also perfectly cooked in opinion. The service was also fairly fast and polite. The restaurant is in a cute retail development, was clean and quirky. I don't drink beer but it had an ample beer list and several ciders that looked interesting. Visiting from California and had to try Beer 88. The burgers we tried were great. We had the L.A., the Mac Attack and the Smoking Gun - each cooked perfectly. The place was packed for a Thursday night. After eating here I see why. My wife is not into lettuce, tomatoes or any other produce on her burgers...to her the Mac n cheese is a condiment and now Beer 88 is the new burger place for her when we visit the 'Burg. We also tried the Bomb - smoked bacon wrapped meatballs in a Bbq sauce - these made a great starter. What's not to like about bacon wrapped anything? My husband and I have been to Beer 88 twice now; once by ourselves and again with a guest. We sat outside for our first visit. The sidewalk is a little wonky, but the view is so nice. I ordered the bacon wrapped meatballs and a Smoking Gun burger. My husband ordered the Gerberburger. It was good. I was hoping for a few more meatballs for the price, but they were delicious. The burger was excellent and didn't even make a big mess. My husband enjoyed his meal as well, but thought the peanut butter overpowered the flavor of the rest of the burger. On our second visit we brought our uncle. He ordered the burger with the jalapenos (the Rojo), my husband ordered the glazed donut burger, and I ordered the Hawaiian. They both loved what they ordered. I enjoyed mine as well, but I think it might rate second in my list of Hawaiian burgers. The wasabi is a nice touch. The fries are also great. Great beer selection, wish I could say the same about the service. They were slow and my server forgot my beer because I ordered after my husbands was delivered. The food was "meh" at best and there was actual MOLD in my pretzel cheese. DISGUSTING! they delivered a half hearted apology and replaced it with a "fresher" container but did not bring me a new pretzel as I had already dipped half of mine in the ruined cheese. On top of all of that nothing was comped on our bill. I'm not a cheapskate and top at least 18% even when service isn't great, but this was unacceptable.
