Hello, my name is Loli and I guess I must be dead because I've just gone to sausage heaven. It was really nice out and I found a great parking spot at the corner. Walked in with my buddy and tried to figure out if I was in the right spot because I wasn't expecting the place to be so small. *Reminder to self: Just because something looks little, doesn't mean it can't wow you in a big way.* I hadn't yet noticed the gorgeous picnic tabled patio directly behind me. The nice guy behind the counter asked if it was our first time here, pointed out the menu, and described the sausage offerings. I had no idea what a Merguez was (or how to pronounce it) but it sounded good to me and my buddy went with the Bahn Mi. We took seats at a picnic table in the patio while our orders were prepared and were left speechless as we drank in all the art outside. It's beautiful! Our food soon came and we went speechless again. The cole slaw combined with my sausage hit all the right happy notes in my heart and my buddy was silent with his happy chewing. I love this place. One of the best places to have a drink, chill with friends and listen to Bay Area hip hop. The murals are awesome. I would stay here all day and be okay with it. I hate writing bad reviews based on service because when I read them, I almost always side with the establishment. I assume that most are the results of disgruntled self entitled customers who have no idea of the realities of running a business. On the fipside, I hope that there is a business owner reading these reviews and if there is a real problem, I would want the chance to address them. This was our first visit to this place (Sunday 8/24 early evening) and found it by chance as we were waiting on friends to meet us at a bar up the street and we were looking for a meal. I was with two other friends and we ordered a BLT and two Bacon & Mac burgers. The food was great and we would have left satisfied and impressed had it not been for the rude employees that ruined the entire experience. Specifically the girl named Yvonna but also the other girl who was running food to the patio. We ordered our food and then sat at the three barstools at the end of the counter. The BLT and one burger was delivered and then a long delay. We saw what we assumed was the second burger come out of the kitchen and we brought it to the attention of Yvonna that we thought that it was meant for our party. She ignored us and then there was some confusion as they tried to sort out their mistake. Eventually after checking the patio area she brought the burger back to the counter and served it to our party. There was a bit of "we tried to tell you that was our burger" and apparently she got offended and decided to take an attitude. She told us that we now needed to move away from the counter to somewhere on the patio. We were in the middle of eating our meals but whatever, in shock we picked up our trays and moved to some empty spots on the park benches in the back. After discussing what just happened and finishing our meals, I approached Yvonna to learn her name and tell her we thought we were treated poorly. She offered up some lame excuse about just coming on shift but it didn't sound very genuine. We were obviously persona non grata at that point and I knew it was time to collect my friends and leave but not before the other girl ( I didn't catch her name) decided to offer up more excuses. I told her that as a customer, that wasn't our problem but she said she didn't care about any bad reviews and to never come back. Done and done. I searched for RUDE in the reviews and wasn't surprised to see mention of it several times. read more

I love this spot. I've been coming here for years and i would never give less than full stars but I have to say that my experience tonight was off putting. The staff is great--the bartenders are laid back and knowledgeable but tonight i encountered a member of the staff that was mani g the door and busing tables who was unfriendly, disrespectful and just not the energy I usually associate with Beeryland. I tried to use the restroom on my way out one minute before closing and as i was closing the door he shows up and says i have to leave despite there being several people drinking and closing out at tables. I completely understand closing time--I have been in the restaurant industry. But the lack of respect was pretty obvious. He was talking down to me and making it seem as though i was breaking a rule for attempting to use the bathroom after buying dinner and drinks. It just felt out of left field and had me leaving feeling uncomfortable. It's a bummer because i truly love this spot. The food: the sandwiches and burgers are really good, so I sat here, eating probably the most delicious veggie burger while taking a mental note of the two other black people here as well as the white dudebro next to me with a Oakland "Ratchets" shirt on. My friend loved her sausage sandwich and we finished our meals so quickly - definitely qualify food! I was conflicted and full. Here's a review of the actual establishment: obviously pre-conceived and intentionally "divey" but clean enough to appeal to your average white gentrifier in acne jeans who loves Oakland but doesn't contend with their impact on the survival of black/people of color residents in the Bay. They have a heated seating area in the back, which is great for chilly nights. I feel like the people who run this place are chill as fuck (or maybe they just don't care that much, can't quite tell but our food came quickly and they weren't rude so idc) but a portion of the people who patronize are the same folk who walk quickly past you on the side walk. It's a weird space, fam. I really wanted to like this place without being frustrated, but it's hard to. They have chill service, good food, and apparently $1 beers on Monday. It's intended to look and feel like a working class/punk/grunge/dive joint - but its obviously not that. I had the wonderful 'banh mi' this morning at eight with a glass of Firestone beer. Greatness for anyone finishing up the night shift, an all night study session or a hard night of partying. A thick, fat flavorful coconut green curry sausage was split in half and embraced between two soft buns, one coated with a bit of sauce and the other a layer of mayo. As a tribute to its bahn mi inspiration there is fresh cilantro. I went back Sunday and tried the green bean sandwich. Two nicely toasted and buttered slices of sourdough sandwiched a mountain of fresh green beans dressed in pesto aoli and resting on a bit of greens and completed with slices of provolone. I'm a meat eater and the swell sausages would be my choice, but i would bring my vegetarian friends here without reservation. I think there will be a vegetarian sandwich on the menu that takes advantage of whatever is seasonal. I had a New Orleans iced coffee. They use Mr. Espresso and mix it with chicory. It was good but I like a little more chicory. Thanks to the Dave B who caught that John was in the kitchen. Sit at one of the long, wooden tables and smoke your cigarette while drinking one of their slightly overpriced beers from Dogfishhead, Almanac, Anchor, or Calicraft. If you really want to blend in, order a can of Ranier, (which has the potential to be the next PBR). Dress in your finest flannel, find a pair of cut-off jeans, grow a beard, roll your own cigarettes. Lounge in the sun (don't forget a pair of stunna' shades), stretch out, listen to music ranging from Surfer Rock to Punk. Order a burger, choose the version with the mac'n'cheese patty (11$, why not?). Go outside and see the sausages people are gnawing on. Curse your bad fortune for not ordering a sausage. Get your burger, love the fresh-ground, hand-formed patty, cooked to a juicy medium-rare with a nice charred crust. Marvel that a mac'n'cheese patty could have so little character, and lack the rich cheesy flavor you were hoping for . Curse at yourself (quietly...you don't want to scare the other patrons...look at how that one is dressed! I didn't even know they still made fanny packs!) for not ordering the Pulled Pork Burger, or the Porcetta Burger, or a goddamned sausage (my God, the sausages look fantastic). Finish your meal, order another beer, order another couple of beers, have an imperial stout for dessert. Marvel at how out of place you feel. Vow that if you ever come back (and you have the suspicion that you will, probably with at least a half-dozen of your friends) you'll order a freaking sausage. Watch social groups form and dissipate. Listen to people dressed in a wardrobe straight out of the eighties kvetch about life's trivialities. Walk downtown to the Uptown Oakland Transit Center, catch the NL back to San Francisco. Call it a night. Overall: 3.5 Stars. An outstanding place to sit and drink, a strangely uninspiring burger (despite a fantastic patty), and a decent beer selection. I can see myself coming back to try a sausage (or two) Extras: Credit Cards Accepted! Telegraph beer garden is a brewery in the heart of Oakland. The murals on the walls remind me of the Arts District in Los Angeles. The location is great for people watching. I saw one person reading the Koran while sipping on a beer. The food itself: This is a great burger. The beef was very tender alongside the melted cheese on top of it. This a great old fashion burger -- not one of the artisan burgers that they put Doritos in or something - but a great classic burger. Get the greyhound slushee drink alongside it and you'll have a great buzz going alongside great food. Prices were reasonable - I spent $33 for 2 beers, a slushee, and a burger. read more

I really appreciate having a good food and beer place to hang out at in Oakland. However, I give this place a three-star rating simply because the workers have the worst attitudes ever. They truly make the experience very unpleasant because they are short, rude, and make you feel like an inconvenience for even stopping by. I understand sometimes when it gets busy it can be overwhelming but that doesn't give you the right to treat your customers like shit. If you don't like working at a really busy place with people that are drunk and having a good time, then work somewhere else. This is a great-slightly hidden-hot spot for those with carnivorous cravings. After an Elite event at Betti Ono Gallery, Nique F., Marcus N., Basil G., Matt H. and I skipped down Telegraph for beer and meat. Yum. I loved the outdoor area. The walls are covered in murals that kept my eyes glazed over while I listened to my food sizzle on the small grill nestled in the front room. The food took quite a while to make it out to us (I can be quite impatient when I am hangry) but my frustration was tempered by the friendly service and the quality of Yum when our food made it out to us. Yes! Telegraph has a great selection of rotating draft beers, a sunny picnic table covered patio, friendly staff, and delicious sandwiches. The last time I was there they had Calicraft cream ale! I'm always on the hunt for bars that serve cream ales. The only other place that currently has one on tap that I'm aware of is Woods, and theirs has a too-sweet cinnamon roll flavor to really fit the standard cream ale profile for my taste. The sandwiches are large, filling, and buttered to the nines. Everything is reasonably priced for what it is. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area and looking for a low key place to have a beer and sit in the sun without being judged for that huge sandwich you're jamming into your face. read more

I'm not a beer drinker, so I've always kind of written off this beer garden and didn't give it much thought. But recently someone mentioned that they have really awesome burgers. Now, I haven't been impressed with pretty much any of the other gourmet type burgers available in the East Bay. Unami Burger, Kronnerburger, Chop Bar, etc. I tend to just stick with In-n-Out or Trueburger and not go for the fancier stuff. Telegraph's burgers aren't cheap but they are absolutely the best burgers I've had in the Bay Area. I was pretty surprised to be honest. I was expecting to be disappointed. My burger was so incredibly juicy and flavorful. It was SO good. They have lots of really delicious and unique combinations like the pulled pork topped burger which was excellent. One slight disappointment was the lack of sliced pickles for the burger but I almost didn't miss it (and I LOVE pickles on my burgers!). Will definitely come back. read more

I'm not kidding, my dream bar is one that you can go to in your sweatpants and have no judgment put upon you. This is that bar! I work down the street, so I come here quite often. They have a rotating selection of beer, so it might change from day to day. I discovered Campfire Stout here and all I can say is, holy crap! Best beer of life!! Anyways, this place really pops off on First Friday's. It is right in the center of Telegraph and there's a giant sign that says "BEERYLAND", so it's a wildly inviting environment for that night in particular. But the outside seating area still fills up every night. Best time to arrive is around 5-7 so you can claim your spot. Food here is decent, the burgers seem to be a touch over-priced but they are seriously good. I can imagine they use really quality ingredients which could up the prices, so not gonna take off any points for that. Another bonus is that the staff here are seriously the chillest ever. One night my friend got a little too drunk at the table and fell asleep. They knew he was totally okay, so they just let him chill. Most bars would have had their overly rude security guy grab him and throw him onto the street. So, thank you for being a hella chill spot where I can just be myself and chill with my homies. PS. You haven't been to Telegraph unless you've seen the old lady who digs bottles out of the trash can! I love the fact that they let her do that without question. PPS. Cute beer garden in Oakland. Seating is at these picnic style benches covered in graffiti, you place your order at a walk up bar and they bring your food out to you. I had the porchetta sandwich, it was a huge portion, the porchetta was flavorful and cooked nicely. The best part however was the jalapeño-cilantro coleslaw that was on the sandwich. Holy cow! So much flavor with a nice hint of spice. Boyfriend had their 5150 burger and said it was pretty damn good. Their sandwiches are served with chips. We also split a side of grilled Mac and cheese which had a crazy amount of flavor for Mac and cheese and I liked the sear they put on it. Will def return. read more

I freakin' love this place. It's a non pretentious, totally chill, neighborhood feeling joint that serves kick ass sandwiches without attitude and there's beer. Out on the patio area, which is now covered and surrounded by an awesome mural you'll find picnic tables and super cool locals...P.S. dogs are allowed. They do change sandwiches which kind of sucks for me as a vegetarian but there is always at least one non meat sandwich sometimes two. Recently, I tried the mac 'n' cheese burger on a veggie patty and it was mind blowing! Definitely filling and will keep you full all day. I have also tried the tofu sandwich and the green bean sandwich, both amazingly awesome. Both had complex favorites with simple ingredients. There are some creative minds behind the construction of these sandwiches. I believe there are only 2 beers on tap one always being an IPA. I appreciate this place being open during the day that way I can come here early when it's not busy and enjoy a nice cold beer and a yummy vegetarian sandwich. I love Oakland! read more

This place is really cool, hip and a good crowd pleaser. I liked my burger and the atmosphere was worthy of snapchat or instagram bragging. The servers were nice, though I waited a long time for my food. Telegraph just didn't rub me the right way. I just feel like, I paid about $20 for a burger and beer and the bathroom wasn't even that clean, and it was also clogged and not well maintained. I dunno, if I'm paying a decent price so that they can make a profit someone could actually try to maintain it right? There were some cool arcade games from what i saw outside the foggy dirty window. It wants to be a cool divey place but the high prices don't match. I really really love the Beeryland sign outside and the graffiti/mural art. Theres a lot to love here, but I felt it was a little expensive for what you're getting. I would compare it to a pair of worn in jeans with rips that cost $100 at urban outfitters. Ever since my favorite place to get a burger closed down (RIP Disco Volante), I've been trying to find my new burger place. I'm happy to say, I've found a darn good burger at Telegraph. The vibe is chill, the burgers are juicy, and the beers aren't expensive. They've got a fridge full of cans and bottles you can choose from if the ones on tap aren't your thing, and they don't charge you an arm and a leg for a can. Their porchetta sandwich is good, their 5150 burger (half beef, half bacon) is BOMB. One item I would advise against though is the Kono burger. Maybe its a personal thing, but I don't like a bunch of raw kimchi on my burger. I thought it would at least be grilled and melded into the meal. But once again, it might be just me. Kind of dive-y on the inside, but the beer garden out back is a great place to enjoy a beer during a sunny day in Oakland. While the beer selection is small, the stuff they do have is good and at an awesome price (e.g. $6 for a pint of 11% ABV barley wine!). This place is incredibly chill. They have an awesome outdoor space and great food. It reminds me of a hipper version of Heart & Dagger - less divey and more foodie. AWESOME tofu sandwich. The veggie burger wasn't that great (then again, veggie burgers usually aren't that great). They have really great drink specials at times. They sold Ashland, Oregon's Caldera amber beers for $2 a can. Can't beat that! Great beer and so cheap! Also highly recommend the cider slushie. It's SO NOT overly sweet, it's absolutely perfect. Great for a hot day or if you just want to try something new. I love getting a pint here before checking out the New Parkway a couple blocks down. Seriously, great spot! read more

The beer selection is excellent (grapefruit sculpin) The burgers are great (if you're a fan of healthy gobs of mayonnaise like at the county fair) served with a handful of potato chips and an all you can handle hot sauce bar. On top of it all, you can bring your dog. Unfortunately, there's a disconnect between perfection and application. The service has increasingly grown impatient and unnecessarily rude. The beers are rarely in stock. The burgers sometimes contain hair. The dog owners can be irritable and overwhelming The clientele swing between drunken slushy malaise or nondescript start-up meetings/tinder dates.
