This place is weird. I walked in, ordered takeout, and paid. I walk outside to take a phone call. Less than 10 minutes later I see some to-go orders packaged and ready. The person who took my order and received my payment has no recollection of me. The restaurant was not busy, and I am a pretty easy person to recognize/remember. I repeat the items I ordered, and she finds the food, all packed and ready to go. She can't seem to figure out if I paid or not. Asks if I paid by cash or card. I retrieve the receipt and get the food. I'm wondering at this point if the workers are running transactions off the books or what. Whatever, that's their business. On to the food. Mongolian beef- horrible. Worst preparation ever of the dish. Sauce tastes odd, and the ingredients were not right. It just had random stir fry vegetables and some very grisly meat substance. "Beef" was practically inedible. I threw it in the trash after a few bites. Soups- hot and sour and egg drop were ok, kind of good but not great. I am a Buda resident, and generally a happy customer of Beijing Bistro. However, I am completing this review to alert my neighbors that ownership and the management team are failing our community. This is the third time in a row that I have ordered take out, have been told the wait was to be approximately an hour, and upon showing up to the restaurant at the appropriate time, have been told that they apologize but that I need to wait and addition 20 minutes to receive my food. They either do not pay enough to retain good staff or the are such poor planners that they like pissing off an entire community every weekend. If it weren't the only option in West Buda for Chinese, I would tell them to close the doors. Rather I will suggest a business course on management. Someone should step up to the challenge and open a competitive business right next door, you would crush it. Maybe me! read more

Very fast delivery, great for a rainy day! Sesame shrimp is quite good, though a couple of times I ended up with chicken instead of shrimp. After reading a few reviews I decided to try Beijing Bistro. I was delightfully pleased. Food was hot when served, nicely presented and nothing ordered was over sauced. Hot and sour soup was good A- I'm a Kung Pao chicken fan, so of course I had to order that dish. Loved it. The small bistro is clean, several booths and tables, nice bar setup, good jazz sounds and efficient service. Many dishes yet to taste but I give it a 4.5. Quality has gone down. This used to be my go to spot but over the past months this place got gross. I've eaten here 3 times over the past 6 months and each time was nasty. First time I ordered for dinner the fried rice had big scoops of white rice in it. The second time I got a lunch sesame chicken with fried rice and chicken eggroll. The rice was very mushy and the chicken was rubbery, but the eggroll was good. Last time was Wednesday, I ordered 2 lunch portions of sesame chicken with fried rice, egg drop soup, wonton soup, and 3 chicken egg rolls. The egg rolls were so thin. They were about half the thickness than what they normally are. The broccoli was over cooked, the fried rice tasted like white rice, and the chicken was heavily battered with old chicken. The fried rangoon is good, however our main dishes, kung pao chicken and shrimp and the jalapeno chicken just weren't good. Had lunch on a cold day. Hot and sour soup hit the spot. Peppercorn hot wings were deliciously crispy with a hint of heat, topped with a jalapeño/onion/tomato slaw. Perfect beer accompaniment, really good. Trio saute in burgundy sauce was lightly spicy, rich, yet not heavy. The meats (shrimp, chicken, beef) were perfectly cooked. Nice sauce. I think this was the best thing we ate. The bean curd saute with vegetables was good and fresh. Not amazing flavor wise but quite acceptable. The accompanying egg rolls were OK, nothing special. But then, rarely do I find egg rolls exciting. They offer 3 rice choices, white, brown, or fried. White and brown were fine. Didn't try fried. Good service. Nice decor. Wanted to support a local restaurant tonight and now I regret it. Placed order online and received confirmation saying order would be ready in 30 minutes. We arrived right at the 30 minute mark. Sure there's better Chinese food in bigger cities like Austin but in the Kyle/Buda area, Beijing Bistro is as good as it gets! There's some other Chinese restaurants & Chinese buffets in the area but none of them are as fresh or remotely compares to Beijing. Everything we've tried there- from their wing appetizer to their kung pao chicken, broccoli beef, & eve the fried rice is excellent. The service is great too & the portions, like most Chinese restaurants, are enough to feed 2 easily. The location itself, next to Proof Deli/liquor, is easy to miss but the area itself is really growing & with the reputation they're getting they should be around a while. read more

"Hard to find good Chinese food?" Apparently some folks do not know good Chinese food if it hit them in the face. It had been a few months since we had tried this place. The last time they had just opened and I figured I would let them work out their growing pains. I decided to order lunch for my son and I. Its a tad bit on the expensive side at almost $10 a plate. The hot and sour soup was good. I have a rule that if the soup is good, then the food should be good too. The beef with garlic sauce was ok. The only good thing was the meat was not over cooked and the veggies were crisp. It was not terrible, but not the best either. The egg roll was small, but had a good flavor. What is up with the fried rice? It was more brown rice with some veggies thrown in. Not the typical fried rice I am used to. I did order online and was ready by the time we got there. Have not tasted the food at this sitting but I was so upset with the customer service I had to come and write this to you I hope you find it helpful it not at least cautious. I called in my order around 11:30 or 11:40 AM, I told them I would be there to pick up my food at 1 PM, arrived around 1:13 PM and the food was not ready. I told the lady who I believe was the manager when I call in the order and that it should have been ready, she said she was sorry and would have it right out...I waited until 1:20 1:25 PM before it came out...bad customer service when I complained to the manager again about being inconvenienced she just said she was sorry, did not offer to discount my meal then or at a future time. It's been a struggle to find a great Chinese food place in the area (San Marcos, Kyle, buda.) I did enjoy their beef and broccoli (the sauce could be a little thicker.) The fried rice was dry, and bland. No bueno! The noodles were extremely bland (Hays city donuts does better noodles/egg rolls, but I don't like their meats.) The egg rolls/spring rolls were bland. So I guess BLAND is the word I'm going with. Chinese food should have some flavor. They have good meats (not brown/chewy) So that's great. When I moved to Buda from Southern California I was on the hunt for all my favorite local cuisines. I love Chinese take out and hadn't been able to find anything besides fast food type Chinese. I found Beijing Bistro and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. I love their vegetable lo mein, the noodles are perfect and there is tons of veggies! The honey crisp chicken is perfectly crispy, tangy and sweet. They give you the option to choose your spicy level which is nice too. The chicken lo mein, fried rice, and cream cheese wontons are awesome too! I wish they would deliver a few more miles outside their designated radius. Great place for Chinese without having to drive to Austin. The owner is super friendly and always checking on all his customers! The wait staff could use some training.
