My 11 year old and I had a very enjoyable Saturday lunch at Beijing Dumpling. We had first stopped off at Seven Ply across the lot to check out skateboards. After we made our purchase, we asked about Beijing Dumpling. Highly recommended was the reply, so we walked over. It's a husband and wife combination, and both are very friendly. Surprisingly, not much English spoken, but that added to the enjoyment. Beijing Dumpling's specialty is of course dumplings. Not the frozen kind you can buy in bags, but hand made offered either steamed or fried. We ordered a steamed dozen for about $5 and ate them as our appetizer. Very good. We also ordered two dishes and although not gourmet quality, both very, very acceptable for the price paid. One was a noodle dish, wheat noodles I believe (more common in the north). My dish was a large plate of chicken with vegetables. A Coke, tea and white rice completed the meal. When we walked in, I noticed a strip behind the counter with completed receipts attached. Were these a record of customers served the day before? Or orders placed already for the day we visited? Regardless, many orders equals many other satisfied diners. Overall, very pleased. Food very good. Two great owners. Fresh handmade dumplings. Good location. We will return. read more

I had come to the Merchant Square plaza to actually try a new place called Thai Time Cafe, sadly they weren't open yet and me being hungry walked down two doors and tried Beijing for the first time. I walk in to the very small shop and the family who runs it jumped up from a nearby table and rush to take my order. Great service in this respect (but I had told myself 'I'm just going to check it out' and now definitely felt pressured to buy.). I ended up getting the dinner special C2- General Tso's chicken, pork fried rice, and eggroll for $8.10 after tax. It only took maybe 5 mins for them to make and I was on my way with my to-go box. Really solid Chinese food. The chicken wasn't as spicy as some places I've been but I don't consider that a negative. The eggroll was really great and tasted like perhaps they made it themselves. Fried rice was decent too. I wouldn't dine in here, mostly because of the tinyness of the place but Take out was spot on. read more

Homemade pork dumplings are the reason to go to Beijing Dumpling. The crispy scallion pancake and tasty Home-style Bean Curd (AKA Ma Po Tofu) are the bonuses. Tucked away in a little shopping plaza in Westerly, this spot would be easy to miss. The dining area is small, but clean and neat. While most people seem to do takeout, we ate there for lunch so we could enjoy the dumplings as soon as possible. The skins are the perfect level of crispy, the filling is full of flavor and the quantity is amazing - 12 dumplings for $6? Most place charge the same but only give you six dumplings. Personally I think you measure the quality of a Chinese restaurant by the dumpings and Ma Pa tofu. Using just these two dishes puts Beijing dumpling into the category of one of the best Chinese spots in New England. Definitely worth the drive to Westerly, RI and parking is free unlike driving to Boston's Chinatown. read more

This place doesn't look like much from the outside. The decor, lack of music or intimacy is the only reason I would rate this 4/5 stars, but because of the service, the food and the kindness of the staff, this is a definite recommendation from a picky Yelper :) As everyone has said below, the dumplings are scrumptious. We always eat the steamed vegetable ones and then tackle their incredible Hot & Sour soup. The menu has a large variety to choose from, for such a small place. Very warm staff and very accomodating (we ended up staying 30 mins past closing time at 9pm and never got "the look of death" you generally see from restaurants. I brought my 88 year old friend with me, and she was given a Chinese new year gift for no reason other than kindness. read more

By far the best Chinese food in this area of Rhode Island. The food is carefully prepared, delicious, and is a great value. Get the steamed vegetable dumplings! They are cheap and AMAZING. The dough is light and thin, and houses a hot flavorful mix of vegetables. The family who owns the place are so friendly and take so much price in their dishes. They will always greet you with a smile, or wait for you past closing to get you your order. Not your typical westerly Chinese restaurant, and I feel so lucky to have it so close by. Tiny little restaurant with an odd vibe and very tasty dumplings. I had followed one of my favorite little joints (Marko's Kabobs) down to this plaza from Narragansett, and noticed the place from their dining room across the way. We checked it out a few nights later. BYOB, so that's a big plus. Though you'll be drinking out of pint glasses, there's a liquor store (Dick's World of Wines) a 1/2 mile away. This is really set up as a take out business. The dining area feels like an afterthought. So do the other dishes. The dumplings are great, fresh and flavorful, brought to the table piping hot. I'd skip the other offerings, and order more more of these fabulous Asian ravioli. Fried or steamed, doesn't really matter, good stuff. read more

We had horrible service and she got orders wrong along as gave attitude when she couldn't understand my parents. Food wasn't that good either, very bland, and some people in my group that came along got upset stomachs. We waited like 45 minutes to get the check after we asked twice. I paid with my card and didn't leave a tip but they still took a 15% when I went to check my statement. The people that came in as well after us for take out had to wait too even though they called before hand and they looked upset. It was either an off day or something but I do know I will never come back and suggest you don't either unless you want mediocre chinese food and have an hour or two to spare. read more

Best dumplings I have ever had! They really hook it up too. For like 6 dollars you get close to 15 dumplings. The rest of their food is descent. The general taos is pretty good. As I'm new to the area this is my first experience with Chinese take out in this general vicinity. Overall, we were very pleased with the food. We ordered and shared several dishes. First the scallion pancakes - I thought they were actually pretty delicious. They reminded me more of a quesadilla than a pancake (without the cheese of course). It seemed to be a double layer of flat pan fried egg roll wrap with a layer of scallion in between. They were deliciously crispy and if you love scallions, then they should be on the list of "must trys". We also sampled the famous pork & vegetable dumplings that so many others have mentioned. They had a good sear on one side and the flavor of the filling was delicious. There was a nice combination of pork and vegetable throughout. I didn't think the sauce was anything special (tasted like a slightly doctored soy sauce with garlic) and I opted to eat them without it. On to the crab rangoons - this was my only real disappointment. I'm not sure if this is a regional difference or specific to this restaurant, but the filling was a watery ricotta base with a slight hint of crab flavoring and without any real pieces of crab meat. My experience with this dish has always been more of a cream cheese based filling with pieces of crab meat mixed in and I didn't care for this variation. Last was the General Tso Chicken combination plate. It was wonderful! Excellent balance of sweet and spicy without my mouth being on fire, but certainly a nice little kick. The chicken was mixed in with green peppers which was a nice twist... Again, not sure if that's a regional thing or something specific to this restaurant, but I'm used to this dish being served with a mix of broccoli rather than pepper. I enjoyed it very much with the pepper though. The pork fried rice which accompanied the chicken was average - nothing bad to report, just nothing that stood out to me as above average. I was a big fan of the egg roll - the wrap was a nice thick wrap with a great crisp on all sides. The filling had large pieces of pork rather than just tiny shreds and the vegetable mixture was a great balance of Chinese veggies and wasn't over powered with shredded cabbage like so many other places. The phone order process was a little bit difficult when it came to giving the delivery address and had to be repeated and spelled out many times before it was finally relayed, but they ultimately did have the correct address. This wasn't by any means a major issue, but it did take a bit of time and patience. The delivery was quoted as 25 minutes, but actually showed up in closer to 50 minutes. The delivery man was very polite. (I would have appreciated if they had included a menu in the bag for easier future ordering though as the only menu I had were the photos that someone else generously uploaded to yelp!) Overall, I was satisfied with most of the food. The only thing that we had which I wouldn't order again were the crab rangoons, but I look forward to trying some of their other dishes. read more

I live right near the shopping center that houses this little place, and I've been here many times. As stated by other Yelpers, the dumplings are indeed amazing, and the overall quality of the food, from the rice to the soy sauce, is consistently great. I find it strange, however, that they never have any music playing in there--this to me gives it an almost eerie, institutional feel, as though you have to whisper everything so as not to disturb the family that owns it. I am guessing they are from China, because English does not seem to be their first language, and the young lady who always waits on me is very friendly, accommodating and nice. I think if they work on ambiance and liven the place up a bit (or at least just put some music on and take down the sparkly Christmas decorations) I would come here a lot more! read more

The interior of this restaurant is nice and very clean. The staff always friendly and accommodating. I have requested some entrees to be made to taste and have never been disappointed with the result. We have had take away from this restaurant on several occasions. They do not over salt and we always get no MSG. The duck options are very good. The spicy chicken or chicken with broccoli are also great options. For starters, the Tom Yum soup is top notch. Everyone seems to like the dumplings, including my wife. I am just not a dumpling fan regardless of who is making them so I abstain from commenting on them. Overall: This is the best Chinese-American style in Westerly. We have eaten at the others, Beijing is the best. On another note, I find it interesting that the two best Asian restaurants in Westerly are in the same little shopping center just outside the downtown area. Magoo read more

My bf and I tried this place while we were craving good dumplings and didn't want to drive to wakefield or our other regular haunts. We've been devoted to this place for the past 5 years. OMG these dumplings are so good! Tender, great ingredients, the steamed dumplings don't fall apart, the fried ones aren't too chewy or too crunchy (just right), and they're not overly doughy at all. Another one of my favorites is the Pineapple Chicken/Tofu/Shrimp Fried Rice. I'm a little picky about fried rice because I don't like it overly cooked; I was So Happy when I tasted their other fried rice flavors. This place has. The Best. Fried Rice. In southern RI. Everything is succulent, tender, fragrant, and best of all, its consistent. Oh, and very affordable. read more

Wow! What took me so long? My wife, son and I had a great meal on Christmas Eve - it's a tradition in our family to go to an Asian restaurant on the eve of the holiday. We loved our vegetable dumplings which were freshly prepared and chock full of veggies. My son and I enjoyed the hot and sour soup, which was full of large tasty strips of tofu, though the Beijing Dumpling version could use more hot szechuan peppers to match the expectations I have for this soup. My wife throroughly enjoyed the Tum Yum Soup, which just the right amount of flavor and spcyness. For an entree, I ordered a delicious chicken curry, which had heaps of fresh asian vegetables and broccoli, while my wife enjoyed a shrimp and vegetable entree.The large shrimp were delicious! My son ordered chicken and string beans, which was also great. The string beans were perfectly cooked and served with a tasty brown sauce. We definitely will be coming back! read more

Hands down, my favorite American Chinese restaurant in Westerly. The rice alone will have you coming back, but everything myself, friends, and family have ordered has all been incredible. As a vegan, I have trouble finding good meatless and dairy-free options around Westerly, but this place has plenty of tasty options for a good price. My usual is the steamed broccoli on white rice either their red sauce or dumpling sauce. Tip: The websites I've found on Google do not have their updated menu available, meaning orders numbered on one may not match up to the other. I suggest stopping by and grabbing one of their new menus if you want to be sure there is no confusion with your order! read more

You won't find a more authentic, freshly made by hand and flavorful dumpling (fried or steamed) unless to travel to Hong Kong! I've had my share of Chinese dumplings in Chinatown's all over the world. They don't get better than Chef's! Try Veggie, Chicken & Mushrooms or traditional pork filled. Order them fried and you get one side lightly crisp (not oily) and the other side soft and steamlike. The egg rolls are also hand made and include shrimp! No premade frozed commercial product here! Tiny place, a few sit down tables. Small menu but everything is prepared to order on the spot. Chef trained in Beijing and Foxwoods. Family owned. Wife and mother in kitchen, kids at the register. Such awesome authentic food you will frown at anything else after eating these dumplings! We have been going here since they opened and while the English hasn't improved, we have a great time visiting every time we stop in. The family is so kind and generous...kids are always greeted with a small trinket (barrettes, small dolls, good luck pouches etc) and a fortune cookie and often a hug. We always get an order of steamed and an order of fried dumplings and both are exceptional. Veggie dumplings are great too. We have experimented with some other dishes, and recently visited again since the "grand reopening and remodeling". While the interior is still fairly simple, they have added more seating. Table service is not perfect because kitchen staff doubles as waitstaff and cashier etc., but they are so eager to please it's never been a problem. We recently tried the Fried Rice with Tofu and Pineapple and it is delicious, albeit different than the usual fried rice. Enhance with turmeric and white pepper?, it has a lovely flavor that is unexpected. Their pork and vegetable wonton soup comes with large pieces of sliced pork and sliced bamboo shoots on top of some hefty wontons in a great broth. We love the hot and sour soup as well. Other dishes we enjoyed were the boneless ribs and the lo mein. Prices have gone up a tiny bit since the renovation but it's still a deal...don't even bother NOT getting the dumplings...it's all about the dumplings. read more

I accidentally stumbled upon this place on my way home from the beach. We ordered crab rangoons, vegetable lo mein, and beef with broccoli. The crab rangoons didn't come with sauce. I don't know who would order crab rangoons without sauce. We asked for sauce and our waitress brought us packaged duck sauce. The crab rangoons didn't have any crab meat and were gross. The lo mein was bland, nothing special. The beef was chewy but not terrible. The menu said it came with rice but it did not. We had to ask for rice and sauce. I would avoid this place. There is definitely better Chinese food in the area. read more

Great American Chinese food! It's a small family-run restaurant. We loved the chicken wings and chicken dumplings.

I am a Westerly native and have tried all the Chinese places in town (because you have to know where the good take out is, am I right?) While a little off the beaten path, this is absolutely the place. I had an occasion to talk to the owner about his food, and it was a great conversation. He was a chef in China before coming here and has done his best to maintain his traditional cooking styles and ingredients while making his menu enjoyable for a more American palate. For my own part, that is a big draw but his food really is great. When you go, make sure you have the chicken dumplings (one of his specialties) and I know you'll keep having them everytime. The rest of the menu is very good as well, and represents a great range which is always a plus since you'll have plenty to try when you go. I highly recommend this place to anyone after take out in westerly and hope I see you there! read more

The owner of the store is very nice, and the prices are cheap (especially the dumplings). The sauce for the dumplings is a perfect blend of sweet, tangy, and salty. While the food can be a little greasy, you can't beat it for cheap, local, reasonably fast food! read more
