Called to get an estimate for a new unit at my renovation in Temple Hills. Had to provide my information to an operator, and then all of it again to a "sales manager" 10 minutes later. The sales manager was stuck on having someone present during the estimate. I said not a problem but we have other projects and prefer to have someone come in via the lockbox. He stated that they would have all kinds of questions. I asked what they were and he said "you know like efficiency of the unit." I explained that the property was smaller and a condo that was attached to other units. As such it should be fine with an economy unit. I explained as well that we were simply looking for the lowest cost solution that could adequately heat and cool the space. He then told me that Belair isn't the right solution. So I guess if you want a low cost option for a property that won't require a large unit because it's smaller and attached to others, you shouldn't call Belair. Glad I could save others some time. I first went to Belair Engineering for a new HVAC in early 2019 for my rental property. I solicited bids from several companies, and selected Belair because they offered the best system price. Everything up to and including the conclusion of the install process went smoothly, but then things started to fall apart. The night after the install my tenants reported a gas smell. Belair assured us that some level of gas smell was normal after a new system install. However, the smell persisted. Belair told us everything was fine. When the inspector came by, we found out that we had been left with a gas leak as well as a new HVAC! To their credit, Belair did fix this gas leak at no charge, but I was still left with an explosion hazard after the install that required an inspector to identify. Fast forward two years. My tenants moved out of the property. As I was doing my walkthrough, I examined the back of the building, by the condenser. Belair had installed the fuse box at a bit of an angle, and slopped caulk awkwardly around the edges. See Photo A. They had also moved the electrical box closer to the ground, and left a large gap in the siding with a piece of wood stuck awkwardly over the aperture. Even worse, the wood appears to not be firmly connected to anything underneath, so I have this floating electrical box. See Photos B, C, and D. I called Belair and spoke to someone named Brian on April 14th. He promised to take a look at my photos and get back to me if he felt there was anything wrong, but that he felt Belair was not responsible for completing any siding repairs that might be necessary after their work was completed. I explained that in managing my pool of rental properties, I had to consider wholistic cost. If Belair would leave work in a state that required me to expend more resources in cleaning up, then I had to weigh the cost offset to repair their work against the cost of their bid. In Brian's words: "That's fine." Brian never did get back to me. To add icing to the cake, I received a bill yesterday, April 28th, for an extended service contract, which I did not agree to and did not ask for. Now, I have big hole in my siding, a questionable electrical box, and a poorly installed fuse box that I need to have someone else fix. We called for an AC tune up and was advised that our unit needed to be replaced due to a leak. It was a 24 year old unit and we asked to have a sales person out that same day to provide a quote. We did have a salesperson come by later that day. He was professional and courteous. We didn't sign a contract then, because we wanted time to discuss as it was over 9 grand to replace the AC and Furnace. We were promised to receive a full quote via email as we requested when the sales person left our house. We NEVER received an email quote and my husband called the sales person to request the quote. All contact was ignored and we never received a quote. They apparently didn't want our money, so we took our business elsewhere. I can't speak of their other services, as we will never call them again for service due to this experience. read more

I should have written a review of these people several years ago but when I warned a friend with a dead furnace against them today, it finally occurred to me that I should put it on Yelp. Belair Engineering replaced my furnace several years ago. The cocky salesman tried to upsell me to replace my A/C, told me it was a "no-brainer" to spend thousands more right now, and acted like I was stupid when I declined. Regarding the furnace, I said that the rooms farthest from the furnace in my ranch house were coldest and asked if there was any way they could address this. The salesman told me I could upgrade to a $700 special fan that would keep those rooms warmer. They are my kids' bedrooms so I agreed. A few years after this (a couple years ago) I had a repairman in for something furnace-related. I asked him if the special fan was functioning properly because the rooms seemed to be as cold as ever. He seemed mystified by what I was talking about, asked me a lot of questions, and then sheepishly told me there was no such fan that would increase heat in those rooms. Frankly I don't know whether Belair installed a "special fan" at all or just charged me for one and enjoyed milking their idiot customer for all she was worth. After I talked to this repairman I sent Belair an email saying I was not at all pleased with the fact that the "fan" had not helped AND that I was now being told that I had basically been conned, and asked them to explain why this had happened or otherwise contact me to discuss it. They ignored my email. I would never use Belair Engineering again and am very disappointed that this happened. Maybe it is just that one slimy salesperson and not the whole company, but they never even addressed my message to them about the situation or else I would not be writing this review. I know this company is popular around town, but I would just say be very cautious in dealing with them and don't get conned like I did. read more

My experience was positive. My heat pump was way-past it's life expectancy and needed to be replaced immediately. I had done heavy research of different brands and vendors, most importantly, I needed a vendor that offered a financing program, preferably interest-free. I met with two companies; a Trane vendor and a Carrier vendor (Bel Air). The Carrier unit I selected from Bel Air was comparable to (if not better than) the Trane unit I was considering; however cheaper, and, Bel Air was able to set me up with 0% financing for one year. Needless to say going with Bel Air was a no-brainer. I felt really good about the decision. I can't recall the name of the salesman who came-out, but I do remember he was Hispanic, and an absolute sweetheart. Installation takes an entire day, however the crew was professional, diligent and clean. Once the install was done, I was given a "tutorial" of the new inside and outside units, and of the new LCD thermostat (that I love!). For those of you wondering if these newer units are more energy-effcient, the answer is ABSOLUTELY!! My home is entirely electric, with the largest consumption of energy being heating/cooling. The unit runs more effeciently, using less energy, thus my electric bill has dramatically decreased. My old unit (some no-name brand that was installed by the builder) ran CONSTANTLY. This new Carrier unit is whisper-quiet and saves me a ton of money during peak heating and cooling months. I admit, I haven't renewed their service contract after the complimentary 2-year service expired, because after all, it is a completely NEW unit (and there weren't any issues that came-up during the complimentary service period), and, I'm diligent about replacing the air filter. At any rate, I will certainly call Bel Air if and when I do require servicing. read more

Even though my HVAC is getting older year by year, I keep my annual maintenance agreement in place so I don't have to worry about it going down. Belair comes by religiously every spring and autumn to do their semi-annual check up. They just came by for their fall maintenance and replaced my humified pad and made sure the rest of the system was working properly so I'll be nice and warm in the winter. As a real estate agent and client Belair is my "go to" company for HVAC calls. I can trust them with on-time service, competitive prices and fair and honest estimates. I am appalled at a couple of the reviews here. 1. Your A/C unint broke down...unless Belair MANUFACTURED it that is hardly their fault. And having to wait in a 4 hour service window is pretty reasonable. If the tech is on another call you wouldn't want him to leave a job half done because he had to be at your house in fifteen minutes would you? In the future you should note that they will give you a call within an allotted time window prior to your appointment (30 minutes etc) to let you know they are on their way. 2. The terms "suck it" and "white trash" used in a busines review should be self explanatory of the reviewer. I hate to see good and reputable business bashed. And with well over 50 service calls for me personally and my clients on everything from preventive maintenance to replacement I'd say I have a pretty good handle on the quality of their service. My review first starts with the initial phone call - Tracy and Bonnie were both super helpful, easy to talk to and very responsive. I immediately stopped my search and went with Belair. On the day of my appointment, Rusty called me 30 minutes prior to arrival so I could meet him at the right time. (unlike Comcast !) He was right on-time, very polite, and informative as to what he was going to do. I had a service check for the spring season. He put the booties on so he wouldn't get the carpet dirty. Would not recommend this company to anyone.I had an 11 year old AC unit and I called them to do a regular maintenance check. My AC was working fine, but I noticed them at my neighbors and decided to call them to keep my AC unit running well. A technician came out and did a thorough check and said I needed a capacitor. They came back and replaced the capacitor, and the the technician said I needed a kick start and was surprised that the first tech didn't mention it. A third technician came out to replace the kick start. Turned on my AC this year and was only blowing warm air. I called Bel Air because it had worked fine until they serviced it, so thought maybe something was wrong with the capacitor. A technician came out (charged $149 to come out) and said the I was basically out of Freon and that unit I have uses R22 and I needed a new unit and air handler. We scheduled a time for the salesperson to come out and was called advising that they were double booked and they had reschedule.I rescheduled for a 4pm to 6pm time slot, but advised I had a graduation party to attend that evening and needed the person to arrive during that time. No one showed from 4pm to 6pm and the salesperson called me after 6pm and said he was on his way and was about 20 minutes out. I told him to not come and I will call someone else. I called a different company and they promptly showed up the next day when they said they would. I am getting a brand new AC unit and air handler installed this week. I will never use Bel Air again. read more

I'm giving 1 star to Belair. There is only 1 thing they've done that I'm happy about. Belair installed my furnace in 2010. We had a problem with it once and they came out and fixed it promptly. Keep in mind though, we did have a service agreement with them. The thing I am most disappointed in with Belair is the gas fireplace we had installed 3 years ago. From day one we had problems with it; the only way it would work is to leave the pilot light burning all the time even though the manufacturer's manual says you don't have to. I called Belair several times about the problem and never got anything helpful out of them. I think they even came out to look at it once. No one, from the installer, to the salesman, knew why it wouldn't work right. They didn't care either. At least twice I called and talked to them about it and was assured that someone would call me back. I never heard from them. They sent us a service agreement for the fireplace. Why would I pay them to NOT know how to fix my fireplace? This past summer they sent me a letter offering me a free service call with 15% off parts. Ha! Why would I bother? This fall I'd finally had enough. I called a company that specializes in fireplace and gas log repair. The technician inspected and cleaned the gas fireplace and then spent some time trouble shooting the problem, figuring out why it never worked right. It was a simple solution; one that Belair should have known about if they knew anything about the product they sold me. He also called the manufacturer and made sure that they knew about the issue and told us what could be done in the future if we needed further repair. We cancelled our furnace/AC contract with Belair. (About that service contract... You get a letter telling you to schedule the check up. I called in early May last year to get my AC check up. I couldn't get an appointment until August. I can only think they only do one service contract call a day...) We will no longer use them for service, nor would we recommend them to anyone because of the fireplace issue. If you are thinking about gas logs or a gas fireplace, go ANYWHERE else. read more

Last Monday I called Belair because I had water dripping from the air conditioner and I also needed to have a new garbage disposal installed. The rep i spoke with said that they could come out the following day to repair the AC and to install a new garbage disposal. Two hours later I got a call from another rep and she said I would have to pay for two service calls ($ 300.00 total) plus cost of repair and the purchase and installation of disposal. Why would I pay for a service call if I already know I need a new disposal. I went to Lowes and purchased the garbage disposal and they installed it for $119.00. We went with Belair in July 2009 after our seven-year-old heat pump gave up the ghost (!!!). We could not be happier--and we are picky and cost-conscious customers. If you have a Levitt house in Bowie, think twice before using Belair. They have a long history, but the furnace they put in our house does not heat the house evenly or adequately. My first experience with this company, Belair Engineering. From my initial blind contact on the phone to the finished service of having my two gas fires places inspected and cleaned by the technician Rusty, who by the way was methodical, meticulous and professional, answering my inquiries with expertise and genuine advice made this approx. $500 purchase easy. The customer service was impeccable. Originally I scheduled the appointment over a month ago and had to cancel. I was told "no problem" and that my ticket would remain open until I rescheduled. I then received a call after a couple of weeks reminding me that my ticket was still open and had an option of closing it out. I decided to keep it open because I felt no pressure. I then received a very nice follow up post card and was very pleased. Last week I finally called and set up my appointment. My technician called me within the 30 minutes time of arrival I requested and showed up on time. From there on it was nothing but pure satisfaction. My fireplaces were cleaned inside and out, embers replaced, switches checked, power checked, etc. My fireplaces look great! Thanks to this AAA+ service from this company, I put in a request for a price quote for the fireplace blowers.. I'm a very satisfied customer. Belair Engineering your a keeper. Wish I could give 0 stars. Be careful and get a second opinion before going with Belair Engineering. Our hot water went out and we contacted Belair Engineering for a service call. They came out and told us that the heating element was bad and that the entire unit needed to be replaced at a whopping $1800.00!!! After the sticker shock, we shopped around at Lowes and found the same unit with installation for $903. Given that price difference, we then started to question whether our water heater really needed to be replaced. The unit was only 7 years old. So, we called an independent repair person who was referred to us. It turns out that our water heater was just fine. The heating elements were fine too!! Some of the outside wires were corroded and needed to be cleaned. The independent contractor charged $125.00 and we had hot water 20 minutes after he left. We almost got taken. read more

Don't expect this plumber to help you with an emergency. You'll have to make an appointment if your water pipe breaks. They will only be interested is selling you a new water water heater or other major project. Learn to do your own maintenance and repair if not part of the 1%. read more

Update -- made a call to Belair after the experience described below, and just happened to get the owner of the company on the phone without realizing it. I explained my disappointment with the level of service, he asked me for details which I provided, and he graciously thanked me for the feedback that I had provided. He also indicated he would have a refund check to me in the mail today so that I would not be disappointed with the overall experience. The gentleman seemed very interested in what had happened and asked questions as I proceeded. Certainly not an ideal experience, but credit where credit is due -- Belair made me whole when all was said and done. ---------------------------------------------------- Asked for a complete AC checkup. Technician blew out my breather tube, checked my freon pressure. That's it. Charged $79. He included a major sales pitch as well, and apparently I should call Belair soon and ask for Rafael, because Rafael does a great job with estimates. Junk. Years ago I went with B&B and they did some serious review. Electronics, inbound and outbound temperature, the works. It looks like I'll be calling them again. read more

Belair Engineering and Service are one of the BEST HVAC companies in this area. Honestly I prefer to say the number 1 HVAC company. Every employee I have ever interacted with have provided me with stellar customer service. From calling to make an appointment to dispatch service calls. Mr. Warren is my favorite technician. He is very thorough and meticulous with his work. He is very respectful of my home as he brings his boot covers with him when he arrives and takes them off when he is going back and forth outside. What I really appreciate about Mr. Warren is that he explains what he is doing to the system and why that particular task needs to be done. I rarely write reviews; however, when a business surpasses the norm, it needs to be said. Belair goes above and beyond and for my Type A++ personality (lol), I am grateful. read more

I never take the time to post reviews, but I wanted to post one this time. I purchased two units from Belair a few years ago and they have both been fantastic! All of the staff at Belair have been great to work with, but I have to give a huge shoutout to Rusty because he is always so polite and thorough in his work when he comes to service the units. He even pointed out two areas in my basement drop celling where two copper pipes had started to drip water and the tiles were becoming discolored from the water! Belair also pointed out a sump pump issue earlier on that saved my basement from flooding that I was not aware of! Point is- they do excellent work and go above and beyond the call of duty! I needed an emergency call this past weekend and they came out after 8 a.m. which i loved. But they came out and threw in a starter for my heater which went out overnight and they did so incorrectly. The starter for my heater was burnt out and they put a new one in which they did wrong. It was installed where it was touching the gas burners which are metal and it caused it to short out right away and they did not even notice it. I called in a new company and they came out and looked at it and said it was done so wrong, they should not be performing anything on heaters near gas lines. So I wanted my money back for the starter, 189.00. But they will not even take my call. I am not mad, and I am not being mean to them, I am just wanting what is right. They did a poor job, now give me at least the money back for the part. It would be nice if they refunded me in total, or at least paid me for the other company, which was 100.00 cheaper for an emergency call by the way, but they will not even answer the phone or return my calls when I leave a message. Do what is right, give me something for your mess up. read more

I own a small two-level townhouse which I operate as a rental property. In 2011 I decided to have a new heat-pump system installed in that property. I called Belair Engineering and the salesman recommended a Carrier system; I was very interested in a Trane system, but he pushed me toward a particular Carrier system. OK, so I went along with his recommendation. On installation day, the Carrier system looked to be somewhat large to my layman's eye, but that's what the salesman recommended. A couple of years later I scheduled a service call with Belair. The Belair service technician ask me why I had such a large capacity unit installed in my small townhouse. Naturally, I was floored. Well, now I will soon need to replace the heat pump system in my own residential home. I am thinking - "How can I possibly trust Belair Engineering?" read more

We have been a Belair customer for over 20 years, I have recommended this company to many friends, however as the company progressed, their heating and Air conditioning service agreements changed to eliminate almost everything except a check up on our Air conditioning once a year. When we fiirst purchased the service agreement it covered our oil furnce and our heat pump, both service on air/heat. Recently, after calling for our "complimentary" fall check-up, we were advised that they donot service the heating portion of our heat pump... We have never been advised of any changes in the service agreement and the cost just continues to rise. We are very disappointed and checking around for a new company to utilize..... read more

I would avoid Belair. I purchased a new heat pump from them two years ago and have already been experiencing problems with it. I would be more understanding if their salesman who sold it to me wasn't such a used car salesman. He explained how I was going to save tons of money on this new unit and my bill wouldn't be over 100 bucks again and how amazing these new units are. Obviously that was not the case at all, my power bill barely changed and my old piece of junk unit didnt have the issues this one does. It's great having their two year contract in case something goes wrong but when you have to take a whole day off of work just to be home during their 4 hour window, there is no compensation for that. I wish I would have shopped around more and avoided these guys. I've made sure everyone at my station knows to keep their distance from them and I suggest you do the same. read more
