I contacted Bell Products to repair my air conditioning unit. They sent a technician who charged me $902 and misdiagnosed the problem. The system was still not working after his visit. When I contacted them again, they sent a second technician who told me I needed to replace the entire system for $10,000. I then contacted another HVAC company for a second opinion. They confirmed there was nothing wrong with the system. The problem was a small pump, which I replaced, and the AC now works perfectly. Bell Products took $902, fixed nothing, and then tried to sell me a completely unnecessary $10,000 replacement. In my opinion, this is dishonest and unethical. This company appears far more interested in selling expensive new systems than repairing what can easily be fixed for a fraction of the cost. This experience caused me significant anxiety, and I would not recommend Bell Products to anyone. I am requesting a full refund of the $902 I was charged for a misdiagnosis and no repair. Charging for work that did not fix the problem and then pushing an unnecessary replacement raises serious concerns under consumer protection laws. I expect Bell Products to address this promptly and refund the charge. read more

Feel like we were taken advantage of. Bell put our heating/air conditioning in 24 years ago. Serviced yearly. A/C stopped working on a Saturday. Service call, technician here. Didn't communicate what he tried to fix. Worked about 2 hours. If he came back out would be charged another service call. Added Freon and said would need to come out for 6-8 hours to find a leak. Charged $925.00, and not fixed. Another company came out and said could keep repairing but should replace unit. Bell said we signed paperwork so we have to pay. And not repaired. However, when they arrived they found nothing wrong with the air conditioner unit, it worked ok. wrote the report that it was an intermittent problem. I recently had all of the ductwork that runs below my home replaced with Thermaflex ducting, and I chose a different local company to install it. The work did require a permit, and Archon Energy Solutions was the inspection company hired to inspect the job upon completion. The inspection failed twice due to substantial leakage of 342 CFM's, which is about 25-30%. All units will leak, but that leakage is approximately 5-6%. The air leakage is not coming from my new ductwork but from the system and space where it is installed. The unit is blowing air out of the openings and into the crawlspace and closet instead of pressurizing the plenum and going where it needs to. Bell Products installed the Carrier system for me 15 years ago. It appears that there was a larger opening from the previous heater and that this one was not properly framed and sealed, and I have been losing efficiency over the years. Had this job not been permitted, I would have ever known there was a problem. When I asked what needed to be done to fix the issue so the job can pass inspection and I can collect my rebates, I was told that the system needs to be removed and resealed and that it's a labor-intensive job and the cost approximately $2,900. (This pricing is from the company that I hired to install the ducting. When I interviewed Bell Products for the same duct job, their quote was two times higher than this and the other company that I interviewed.) Since Bell Products installed the heater, I called them to politely explain the situation. Trish, the gal answering my call, was not the friendliest of people to deal with. She told me their availability and told me their hourly rate. I told her that I was upset about being billed for something that was improperly installed in the first place. She disagreed and told me so. I sent a follow-up email to the company stating that I felt it was bad business on their part because of the poor workmanship; no response. As I mentioned, I interviewed three companies before having this current job done. Bell Products was priced two times higher than the other companies, and they spent no time with me and took the longest to get me a quote. After having used them long ago, considering them for my current job, and now learning about their past shoddy work, I recommend not using them. read more

He spent two hours installing a thermostat that wasn't compatible with our heater. Since he was leaving without finishing the job I said I would call the office and pay them directly. Armando became belligerent and refused to leave our property. We were very scared and were forced to pay him for an incomplete job. When we called the office they refused to either adjust the bill or send someone else out to fix the problem. We have used Bell products for over 30 years but since they hired Armando and their office staff doesn't care about customer service we will be using a different company from now on. read more

A whole crew of fine young gents sauntered through our door on HVAC Replacement Day One: including: John, Kyle, Matt, Alfredo, and Mitch. All were neat, clean, polite, punctual, and according to the ease in which they completed the installation, consummate professionals. Noon on Day Two found the entire process complete. Archon Energy Solutions just completed the required independent inspection. They checked everything: the HVAC units, the vents, the plumbing, the gas connections, the electrical, and even the air pressure flows. Archon declared the entire menagerie completed to perfection, then congratulated us for selecting the best HVAC installation company in the entire North Bay...great news indeed, considering Archon has seen more than their share of crummy installations from many other firms in the area. We planned early in February to replace our HVAC system for our home before summer. We requested 4 local HVAC contractors to quote on the job. Out of 4 HVAC contractors 3 showed up to walk thru for estimating job. The 4th returned calls but was a no show to his appointment and never called back to reschedule. Note: We wanted permits pulled and air duct efficiency testing included in price. Bell products Geoff D, the Bell estimator spent time detailing job and explaining costs and options for efficiency. The others 2 contractors came and went in 15 minutes or less; this included attic inspection for furnace and outside inspection for a/c. They both had 'canned ' solutions for HVAC system, no options proposed for cost or efficiency. Neither wanted to pull permits or duct testing. $ Quotes: one contractor did not bother to quote and one did quote but did not want to pull permits or duct testing. Both had 1 year parts and labor warranty. Bell's pricing with higher efficiency a/c unit, permits pulled and duct testing was considerably lower priced and had 5 year parts and labor warranty included. We went with Bell. Their employees showed up on time both days and were courteous, cautious & clean as they removed old Furnance unit from attic thru our master bath and bedroom. At end of day the house was left clean. We got an efficient HVAC system for the best price. We also, received a check from local union for over $200 for going with Bell Products who is a union shop. After he went into the attic he had the heat up and running within a few minutes. He really knew his stuff! He then proceeded to test and check the entire heating system before leaving. We called Bell Products after our home was in the middle of the LNU Lightening Complex fire at Lake Berryessa. Being new homeowners with a baby we wanted to make sure our unit was free of fire debris and leaves. (Since we weren't home for over 2 months due to the fire) Our initial duct / package unit cleaning was amazing! The two techs that came out were super friendly & did an amazing job. Now less than a month later of BARELY using our heater to heat it up in here in the morning... it's no longer blowing for more than five mins. I called and spoke with Trish in the office, started explaining the issue and was cut short, to be placed on hold. She came back on the phone and said that she can put us "on call" but no guarantees and worst case they'll be here Monday at 7 am. -- I told her that it's 59 degrees in our house, we have a baby, & we were in the middle of the fire so our windows were melted and don't seal properly. She basically tells me that's all they can do and she will call me if they can come today. I spoke with my fiancé and then decided to call back and try to speak with someone else. I spoke with the manager Donita who basically said the same thing as Trish did. She was rude when I mentioned they have a Bell Products worker that lives up here, telling me he's not readily available just because he lives up here. I clearly understood that before she even said it, I was just trying to PROBLEM SOLVE for them. Maybe he could have came by and looked at it after work or before work or SOMETHING. We live in such a rural area, why not have the guy that lives 3 mins away from us come and check it out? Too much work for them to plan I guess. Donita then tells me that there is another option, I can wait till after 5 pm and call their "emergency service" but that will be $505.00. RIDICULOUS!!! Especially when it worked before it was worked on by them! I've worked in the business, I know that until you get out there and look at it there is no way to determine who's "at fault" but if someone just spent almost 2k at your company that has a new baby & just went through a major fire... wouldn't you put in a little more effort to try and get out there. Thought I had a natural gas leak and called PG& last month. That issue was corrected easily, but while he was under my 75 year-old house (I have a floor furnace) he discovered that my exhaust flue pipes were completely rotted away. He was compelled to disconnect the gas line and disable the furnace, leaving me with an "Unsafe and Hazardous condition" report. I called one company here in Napa that is highly rated, and the young lady informed me that they don't do this kind of repair, and suggested I have a new heating system installed. When I explained that the furnace worked fine, she proceeded to inform me that I was probably not aware of how wasteful my furnace is and I should pay closer attention to my PG&E bill. Wrong. I am very aware of my PG&E bill, and compare month-to-month usage regularly. My next door neighbors own an equally old house, and recommended Bell Products to me. After calling them, they were here within several days to inspect and give me an estimate. Don was very nice, very professional, and even told me what type of flue pipe to buy at Home Depot (this saved me $$). Less than a week later, after their shop fabricated an exhaust hood, Don returned and completed the replacement and repair in two hours. Bell replaced our 20 year old HVAC system. They had been coming twice yearly for maintenance and did a great job of keeping it running, with minimal costs, for about 8 years. We anticipated having to cut a hole in the ceiling to get the old unit out. When the crew showed up, they came up with a way of dismantling the unit in the attic and using the existing openings to bring things in and out. We couldn't be happier with the experience! I don't know if they were the lowest price. We didn't shop around. We had confidence in their ability to get the job done and stand behind their work. We would rather know that the job would be done right, rather than save a few dollars. They even applied for a PG&E rebate for us (that we didn't even know about)! read more

I was having trouble with a fairly new, but just out of Warranty Air Conditioner sold and installed by Bell Products. They came out immediately and found that a Coil was leaking. It was fixed but I received a large Invoice. They did not charge for the part but did for their labor as again, it was out of warranty. I talked with them about the issue and tried to reach Carrier the Air Conditioner company. When I never heard back from carrier, Bell Products stepped in and reversed the Invoice. NO Charge !! Gary and team saved the day by insisting that a defective part be provided by the manufacturer for a newish (4 years old) but out of warranty water heater which kept failing. They first made several house calls over a few months to start it again; they were always courteous, and always came over the day that I called, sometimes within the hour. During this last blistering hot spell, and we called Bell for service, we were told that their one and only technician couldn't come out for well over a week. My air conditioner condenser/fan was over 30+ years old. I called a few vendors to get pricing and quotes. Many were pushy, upselling me the most expensive products that would not work with my very old home and existing ductwork. Bell Products came out, did a very thorough walk through and were very knowledgeable. Geoff (sp?) listened to my concerns, evaluated all the options and gave me a very fair quote. We then moved forward with scheduling which was pretty quick and efficient. Then the installation; the installers were so nice and polite. Cleaned as they went and really seemed to know what they were doing. For the price, the experience and their reputation I give them 4 stars.. As mentioned I almost ever give 5 stars but they would get something like a 4.8... the only way they would get more stars is if we would have paid just a little less. I've got to say that I was truly impressed by the response and service I received from this company. My AC would go on but my blower was not functioning. We tried everything we could to trouble-shoot, so it became clear we needed a professional. After checking on YELP and getting recommendations from neighbors, I chose Bell as one of the places I'd contact. I called and left a message (non-urgent) over the weekend and they called back Monday morning to make an appointment. They are busy this time of year, so it would be a little over a week before they could come, but that was on par with others I'd spoken to. They said it would be $99 to come out and do a diagnostic, which was also pretty normal. They also gave a one hour window in which they'd be here, which I thought was great - no one wants to waste a half day to a day waiting for a tech. Well, they called me the Friday before they were scheduled to come out and said that one of their techs in the area had finished a job early and would be able to come to my home within a half hour. To their word, within a half hour John P. showed up at my door. He was friendly and professional, and listened to me as I described my issue and the trouble-shooting we had tried before. He got up in the attic and discovered the capacitor had blown. He thought he had one with him, but it turned out he did not, so he called the office to leave one out for him and he went all the way back up to Napa and then back to my house (in Friday commute traffic no less - it was the end of the work day!) to install it. He also brought a filter and gave us the option to purchase it, as ours needed replacement. We accepted the filter and he replaced that, as well. All told we came in at $199 - far under what our worst case scenario could have cost us. And now our AC blows cold so efficiently! All told, Bell Products and especially John P., did a fabulous job! They were quick, courteous, and fair. I am beyond satisfied with them and would definitely use their services again. read more

Spoke to their answering service, received a call back from the tech in 15 minutes. Tech was on site within one hour. Turned out to be a defective thermostat. We had a new wall heater installed in November 2013. In January it wouldn't go on. It is now June. We have had 6 service calls: 2 new thermostats, new wiring between the unit and the thermostat,new pilot light parts installed plus other parts replaced. We are really frustrated at this point. The technicians have been okay but it has gotten to the point now that we need to have the entire unit replaced since it's obviously a lemon. read more

Bell Products does not stand behind their work. After they installed an HVAC unit at our residence we have paid over $6,000 to fix leaks. The last tech who came said that it would cost $350.00 to fix the leak and then we were billed $800.00! When we questioned the labor cost it turns out they charge $138.00 an hour and also charge that amount for travel time. They agreed that they overcharged us for labor, but 4 weeks later we are still waiting for a refund. read more

I was impressed with their response considering our heater went out on New Years day! No one else even answered their phone. Don was very friendly and did a great job and gave me some pointers on how to maintain my heater. The holiday service charge was $198 which seems kind of steep for about 20 minutes work but he had the part and it was a holiday. Guess that is just the way it is. The only issue I had was the part cost $279 and I looked it up later and found it for about $20 on the internet. A mark-up of almost 1,300% (almost 14 times) seems pretty unreasonable to me. Maybe 2, 3 or 4 times but not 14. I don't think I will be using these guys again. read more
