The ambiance was very nice and our food was delicious. The service was excellent too but the hostess ( Brooklyn) was awful rude to me and my co workers when we came there for our Christmas party. I'm not sure if who needs to teach her customer service, but she needs help in that area. The only reason we didn't leave is because we had others come in to join us. This cute little spot in the Hill is perfect for a cozy date night or a quiet solo dinner. The hostess was very warm and friendly, making us feel right at home but unfortunately our server wasn't as friendly. They have the BEST Eggplant Parmesan I have ever had! The noodles tasted handmade and soooo fresh. We weren't a fan of the Chicken Parmesan though. It was ok but not quite as delicious as the eggplant version. read more

I attempted to dine at this restaurant on Tuesday, July 7, 2926, and I would estimate that I arrived approximately 20-30 minutes after the restaurant opened and was the only customer present. The hostess promptly seated me and said she would return with water while I reviewed the menu. Shortly thereafter a couple arrived and likewise were seated by the hostess and near my table. A few minutes passed and the same hostess brought out water to the couple and then a glass to my table. The couple at their table began reviewing the menu while I did the same and within a few minutes a waiter comes out, passes my table without any acknowledgement or greeting, and proceeds to the couples table to take their order. I needed to dine quickly this evening and I got up and told the hostess that I was seated first yet the couple that came in after me had already had their order taken and again the waiter never said a word to me. The hostess didn't apologize or make any comment, which I would have gladly accepted "we made a mistake" but no such remarks. She said I could be seated and the server would be around to take my order. I then requested to speak to the manager and the hostess said she wasn't at the restaurant. I questioned who the manager is and if she would be in the following day and the hostess provided the managers name as Brittany along with the comment that she wasn't sure if she would be in on the next day. Based upon the carefree attitude of the hostess as well as no acknowledgement by the server I decided to leave and doubt that I will give this place another try. I could certainly understand if the restaurant was busy and I was overlooked yet this wasn't the case. I hope anyone that visits this restaurant has a better experience than I did. I've eaten here once before and ordered the same thing. I really enjoyed the food overall, and the drinks are phenomenal. However, last time when I ordered the steak risotto, the meat came out medium-rare even though I ordered it medium. I thought it was a one-off, but this time the same thing happened! We read reviews and were excited to try Bella Mia. We were extremely disappointed. The Calamari appetizer was good but both of our entres were pretty terrible. The chicken parmesian was overcooked, tough as leather and tasted charred. The Wahoo special was overcooked, lacking flavor and hard as a rock. The meals were taken off the bill so no loss. We had high hopes and maybe the kitchen had a bad night. We may try again. read more

I went to Bella Mia on my first visit on Saturday, May 17. I sat at the bar and ordered wine and to go food. Nick, the bartender was incredible, nice, knowledgeable, and double checked my order. Probably one of the best bartenders I've had in the last 10 years. I ordered the seafood pasta and the shrimp scampi and took it home as it was my anniversary and the food was absolutely phenomenal every piece of it was homemade and just wonderful. Never will I ever eat or send any of my friends or neighbors to Bella Mia or any of their other establishments. They also own the local and Grit and Grain. We arrived on a Wednesday night at about 7 pm. Walked in only to be told they wouldn't seat us or serve us because we had a 2 month old baby. They obviously don't want any children there ( total discrimination). If our children or grandchildren aren't welcome at Bella Mia, I'm not willing to go to any of their establishments. After a glowing recommendation from a trusted friend, I decided to book a reservation for my mother's birthday. This was my first time here and I was impressed both by the ambience and the food. Decor: I've lived in Richmond Hill for over twenty years and this building has occupied no less than a dozen different pizza joints. As a consequence, I was taken aback by the level of renovation and detail the new owners put into this establishment. The lighting, artwork, and woodwork tie together and give Bella Mia a modern yet classy feel. This restaurant feels sophisticated and unique. My mother and I were impressed seemingly along with everyone else in the space. Service: The service at Bella Mia was wonderful. The staff was friendly but not cumbersome or overbearing. Did they go above and beyond? Yes, Me being greedy I asked for more bread after finishing off the first loaf. They said they usually only make enough bread to cover the reservations for the night, but they would hunt me down an extra loaf. Which they did! They also said they don't do anything special for birthdays; however, our server managed to surprise my mom with a lit candle on her tiramisu. The way the friendly staff went above and beyond added to a great experience and good celebration for us. Food: Now to what was easily the best part of the evening the food! We chose to skip over some very tempting looking appetizers mainly because the complimentary bread was so good. For the main course I ordered the Filet and Risotto. My mother ordered the Meatballs over pappardelle. Both dishes were excellent, but that mushroom risotto married with the steak au jous was a standout. Filet mignon was cooked perfectly medium and paired wonderfully with the oh so creamy risotto. My Mom's pappardelle dish seemed homemade with al dente noodles and a subtle tomato sauce. Meatballs were definitely homemade and didn't disappoint either. Desserts ordered were the tiramisu and the limoncello creme brulee. The brulee came with rendered berries on top and the classic creme brulee textured top and creamy interior. You couldn't really taste the limocello which I was fine with since I'm not a drinker. The tiramisu had a subtle choclate and expresso flavor but was mostly creamy. Again, the piece de resistance was the candle on top. Overall: We had a great experience and can't wait to go back. I want to try many other items on the menu but I'm not sure if can pass up a chance on the risotto one more time. read more

Main entree chicken parmesan and sausage abriata. Both were very good and portions were plentiful. No room for dessert. My husband and I ate here for the first time last night and we see the pasta-bilities. I normally don't do reviews but because we are eager for good restaurants here in Richmond Hill, and we do see true potiential, I wanted to share my thoughts as the owners continue to grow and improve their business. Our server (Travis) was eager and checked on us frequently. Bonus points there. We decided to each try something different so we could share and get a wide range of tastes. We ordered the gnocchi and the ceasar salad to start. We must not have undertood the description of the gnocchi as we were expecting potato or ricotta flavor and got none of it. It tasted like a fried polenta cake to me. When asked, Travis did confirm it was seminola based. The texture was fluffy and the tomatoes on top delicious but the flour based dumpling left us wanting more flavor. The ceaser was fine but eater beware, it had large strips of anchovy on it. They offered a Cobia special which my husband had for his entree. What confused us both is that it came with two vegetables, roasted acorn squash and asparagas. The dish was clunky and lacked finesse. The asparagus was almost as big around as a thumb, tough, and would have been more tender if it had been peeled. My husband thought maybe one vegetable and maybe a risotto base would have been a better overall plate and presentation. However, the fish was cooked correctly and he enjoyed it. That said for a $32 entree, it could have been much better. I ordered the chicken parmesan. The chicken was moist and tender. Probably the most delicious bite of the night. The pasta (spaghetti) was thick, like a bucatini but without the hole, and it was yummy. As I hand make my own pasta at home, this was truly appreciated. The tomato sauce was just OK - a little on the thin and sour side. We like a more robust sauce and just thought it needed a little more ooomph. We normally don't do dessert but we decided to splurge as the limoncello creme brulee sounded intriguing. The creme brulee of this was on point and excellent. Nice sugar crunch on top, creamy on the inside. The lemon flavor needed a little more punch to it and the frozen, defrosted blueberries on top needed attention. With all this being said, Yelp doesn't allow for partial stars and we would give it a 3.5 - 3.75 rating if we could. We will come back and maybe just try some of the other pasta dishes as there are good things happening here. A few tweaks here and there, and who knows what the pasta-bilities are! read more

Don't judge a book by its cover with this one! Located in a small shopping center, Bella Mia did an amazing job with limited space yet great decor. I heard reservations are a must and after being there I can completely understand why. It's very popular! The menu is very limited and changes often - I thought I prepared beforehand but the menu on their website was outdated (the server said ~2 months behind). We started with the crispy fresh mozzarella, yummy and ooey gooey! I will say the breading could have used a little extra seasoning though. The same went for the breading on the chicken parmesan. My husband said it was good, but missing something. The fresh pasta was definitely a home run! I had the filet and mushroom risotto, it by far was the most delicious thing of the evening. The owner of The Local has now opened a very nice Italian restaurant here in Richmond Hill. Reservations are needed which are nice it's small with amazing food and service. The pasta and mozzarella are fresh made. The pancetta Mozzarella bruschetta with honey was amazingly good. My scored sea bass with asparagus risotto was perfect My husband had the homemade ravioli which he loved. The whipped limoncello martinis were perfect and my husband had espresso vodka martinis also excellent. You could have drank them for dessert! Everything was OK except the entree (a big exception). Three of us all ordered Chicken Parmesan one of our favorites, and one we always order in every Italian restaurant we visit in the area. We all had the same complaint, the chicken was one large thick piece of chicken breast, it was not tenderized in any way. It was really tough and hard to eat. Most places use a mallet or other method to tenderize and thin the breast making it more tender. Some even cut a large piece into 2-3 pieces to make it easier to tenderize. They are missing the mark on what is usually a very popular entree at Italian restaurants. If they could fix this, it would be a tremendous improvement. read more

Fantastic place for a quite dinner for a date or family. My wife and I had a wonderful date night while the kids were visiting their grandparents. We really like the no kids policy. I don't know why people complain about not knowing about the policy when it is on the website. No other place in Richmond Hill has this and it is what this area needs. We used to come to this place when it was a pizza take-out and restaurant. Under new ownership, this establishment with a dimly-lit store front in a strip mall hid a surprise. Inside was a revamped and warmly decorated intimate setting. You wouldn't expect on a midweek that this place would be packed. The servers were busy but friendly and fast. We were seated promptly and served our drinks, appetizers, and entrees in no time. The food was fantastic and we will surely be back for more! read more

I've been wanting to try this newer, upscale option in Richmond Hill. Went with a party of 4. The decor was upscale and looked like a cozy atmosphere. The server was pleasant. It was surprisingly loud for a small restaurant (around 80 dB on my app), but it was a busy Saturday night. The Cesar salad was fine, if a little overdressed and light on parm and garlic. I ordered the ahi tuna catch of the day. It was described as being served with pesto and potatoes. I didn't realize it had tomato sauce on it or would not have ordered it; just a personal preference for that flavor combination. It was served over pesto, with potatoes, more tomatoes, olives, and capers. The tuna was pretty rare (fine by me). Unfortunately, the whole dish was incredibly salty, especially the sides, to the point of obliterating everything on the plate. Neither my husband nor me could stomach it. I ate the tuna with a squeeze of lemon, but asked for new garnish. The next sides came out completely unsalted, so I guess I pissed off the chef. My fellow diners ate filet mignon with risotto, and seafood ravioli in a cream sauce. They were all delicious. The ravioli dish was huge, and the sauce had a nice balance of lemon. Fresh bread was served with the main meal. Overall, I will return, just at a less busy time and I'll ask for a corner booth. I will stick with the main menu next time. read more
