I have considered the Royal Oak Belle Tire store, my tire store for years. Shawn and Mark always go out of their way to help. I've bought many tires and a set of rims there. Have you ever noticed that the wait at tire stores is worse than the wait at a doctors office? I came in here intending to get the valve stem repaired/replaced on one tire. However, when the attendant mentioned that all four tires were extremely worn, I considered replacing all four. I was told it'd be around an hour and a half wait- no big deal, I could jet back to work and make it to my afternoon meetings. I agreed and settled into the waiting room. About 30 minutes into my wait I saw them drive my car into the garage and put it on a lift. Cool, I thought- it only took me 10 minutes to put on my spare tire during a snow storm, so it'll take a team of dedicated professionals even less time per tire, right? An hour later, nothing had been touched on my car. Even better, the staff had all conveniently disappeared into the back- after all, it WAS lunchtime. At the 2 hour mark staff returned: I asked if it would be much longer, they said no, just a few more minutes. At the 2.5 hour mark a woman in the waiting room got all motherly with me and started doling out advice, telling me I should go up there and throw a fit. I consider it, but figure it'll only be a few seconds longer. Must remain calm. At the 3 hour mark I lose my mind. A dark haze clouds my vision. Words spew forth in a foul torrent, and bloody froth forms in the corners of my mouth. The sun is blotted out in the sky. A young child runs screaming from the room, directly out into Woodward traffic. Somewhere in Japan, a wise old yambushi hermit clutches his chest and utters a curse. The tiles in the waiting room melt around me. They tell me it will be just a few minutes more, as they've forgotten to check the alignment. Of course- the alignment is off, and must be corrected. I clocked almost 4 hours at this place, spent over $500, and had an aneurysm. I'd rather walk to work in Highland Park than deal with these jokers ever again. Pro tip: if you absolutely HAVE to go here, go well before lunch. read more

While my husband had good service here for auto repair, I did not have a good experience during my appointment for an alignment -- so, this review is for alignment service only. They hooked my car, a 2006 Pontiac Vibe, up to a computer and quickly determined that my rear alignment was so out-of-whack that they couldn't help me -- I needed a new rear axle because it was bent so badly, they said. They sent me to a frame shop in Birmingham that quoted me a repair cost of nearly $600. Luckily, they were moving and couldn't help me with my car and referred me to another shop. I took my car to a mechanic I've used before -- Wayne at Quality Foreign Car Service -- who took it to an alignment shop to determine that NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH THE REAR AXLE. Belle Tire followed a one-size-fits-all fix from the computer printout to tell me I needed a $600 repair. Wayne at Quality knows cars, and told me they could work with my car to make sure the front and rear alignment was fine. They fixed my steering too, all for nearly $500 less than the repair quote given to me. I DO NOT recommend Belle Tire for alignment checks or service. read more

I don't like to write negative reviews on Yelp, but this is one time I feel I must. I have purchased two sets of four new tires here over the past five years. Both experiences were bad and I will not return even though the location is extremely convenient for me. First thing to note is if they say it will take one hour to change four tires, it really means two to three hours. Make if four hours if you do not go to the counter and pester them on an hourly basis. Second thing is the upsale. The last time I bought four tires they came back after looking at my car and said it would need 750 dollars worth of brakes and shocks. Yes, all tire shops check your brakes and shocks looking for more work and more of your hard earned cash. The margin on repair work is higher than replacing tires, thus the tires are just to get you in the door while the profit is in the brakes and shocks. But, my car did not need any brake pads or rotors replaced at this point in time. Six months later I did have my brakes replaced for the much more reasonable sum of 250 dollars. Third thing is the road hazzard and flat repair. I took back a flat tire that was 19 months old. It had a puncture from a screw and went completely flat on 696. They said they would not honor the 36 month road hazzard warranty because I declined an additional program. But, the receipt states that the 36 month warranty is included with the tire along with balance weights, valve stem, etc. In addition, they did not offer to repair the tire although the receipt also states that lifetime flat repairs are included in the cost of a new tire. Clearly, they are not interested in honoring the tire warranty or lifetime flat repair that is used to promote the purchase of a tire. Their only interest is in getting you to spend more money on a new tire. read more

I have to agree with previous reviewers...be prepared to be hit with an upsell here, no matter what you're having done. And when they tell you "Oh yeah, it'll just be an hour or so wait, he's bringing it in now"...don't believe them. I dropped off my car for a very routine fix (valve stem was bent) and finally had to call them FOUR HOURS LATER to find out if they'd even looked at it, or if they just hadn't bothered calling me to let me know I could pick it up. They also seem poorly organized...I'd bought my tires there, but they failed to mention that I had free tire rotation because of that fact. My husband had to call and tell them to do it since they hadn't offered. When we went to pick it up, one of the valve stem caps was missing...back in we go to get one. And the upsell...I know I should just get over it and say NO and move on with my life, but being LIED TO for an upsell gets me hot under the collar. Telling me that my shocks and struts are shot and need to be replaced...um, no they don't, not by a LONG SHOT. About the only positive is the convenient location...it's close to my house (I walked home after dropping off my car) and there's a Starbucks next door if you don't want to wait in their showroom. read more

And they basically said in so many words "no, you need all new tires." okay whats the cheapest set? "these ones." any cheaper? "yeah these ones are" excuse me but what was that? That said they do do fast work. New tires in less than an hour. But I'll go to a more mom and pop place next time. read more

I've bought several sets of tires and have had various work done (brakes, alignment, etc..). I've always found them to be fair and honest. I write this review today because of a simple courtesy they did. I was on my way to work when my low tire light went on. I had a screw in my tire and psi was down to 20. I seemed to have had the complete opposite experience of my fellow reviewer. Just goes to show that sometimes places drop the ball, and other times they have their shit together I suppose. I took my tire in after running over a construction sign on the Lodge in a wind storm (yes, changing a flat on the side of the Lodge at night is tons of fun!) The guy behind the counter immediately found the problem.. a nail in the sidewall, which cannot be patched, and would have to be replaced. After muttering a few choice explicits under my breath he informed me that I could either buy a new tire or a used one, and they'd change out the spare tire for me too. Naturally, I went for the used one. I handed over my key and settled into the waiting room with a magazine. I wasn't even a few pages deep into the magazine when he came in and told me I was all set. Now, I expected to be there a bit, considering it was an hour before close and numerous customers had been in and out of the wait room. When I walked up to the counter to pay he gestured for me to head out the door... I figured he had forgotten he had not cashed me out yet, but he told me not to worry about it. I'm a broke student.. I honestly don't have money to spend on replacing tires when freak incidents occur (I blame the Lodge, mother nature and the guy that was riding my ass...) I don't know if he realized what a HUGE favor he was doing for me, but I will totally give them my business from now on! read more

Just got an alignment on my new truck, after I had put some larger tires on and an aftermarket suspension with a 2" lift. I have already been a customer at this Belle Tire location for years (at least my last two sets of tires), but couldn't get my newest set from them only because they were backordered. Anyways, my service at this location has been consistently good for so long I felt compelled to write a review. These guys always take good care of me here, especially Sean. Their corporate office also honored a coupon that I had some trouble getting via email, with no argument at all, they were very helpful. The few issues I've had in the past were all resolved the best way a business could deal with problems. This is how to run a business. Keep up the good work. read more

If I could give zero stars I would give it zero stars. To say that I'm upset is an understatement. Dropped my car off at 1:30 PM on Saturday and was told that it would take three hours to have my tires rotated and to make sure that I was back before 5 PM which I was. when I get to the tire shop at 4:55 and ask for my car I noticed that my car has not moved since I dropped it off. I go in they can't find my keys and had to search for 10 minutes until they found them to turn around and tell me they didn't have an opportunity to change my tires 3 1/2 hours later. I said well can you do it right now his response was were closing and we can't and I say so I'm just post to have to deal with the fact that you didn't do what you're supposed to do and the gentleman said I guess so. Even though they confirmed that it was under warranty at the beginning of my wait, they didn't look to see if it was in stock. Shit happens - I get it. But this is when you offer a heartfelt apology for being a nucklehead and wasting your customer's time. Nada. My reco: if you absolutely HAVE to do business with them, don't assume that your convenience is a priority. Ask every question you can think of, beginning with 'do I absolutely HAVE to do business with them?' My guess is No. *** update: homie that missed the stock issue in the 1st place offered to pick up from the other store on his lunch break. At least he is trying. Still, 3 hrs at a tire store - barf. *** update number 2: homie didn't pick up the tire. Waited more. Then, he told me he'd bring it out to me and I could wait in my car. More waiting. I would never go to Belle Tire again. While most of the staff were very pleasant, I found the manager to be quite arrogant and needing to brush up on his customer skills. We brought in our daughter's car for tires and rebalancing. We were advised that she needed new brake lines as well. We were told the car was safe for her and husband and 14 month old son to drive home to Chicago. When we picked up the car, I followed my husband out of the lot and noted black, billowy exhaust coming out of the car. He took the freeway and the car still vibrated at high speeds and overheated. We were told that the car had been road tested. We had to give our daughter my car to drive back and have her car towed back to Belle Tire. Mark, the manager told me we needed another repair that consisted of an $11.00 part and a hour's worth of labor for $125.00. I told him that I thought we deserved some consideration for our inconvenience and being told the car was safe for the drive back to Chicago, he disagreed and said that we were lucky it happened here and not on the road. That is the only thing we agreed on. Added to say: To make matters even worse, we called AAA to have the car towed back to our house and when my husband went up to meet the tow driver, the car was being worked on. I have spoken to Mark 2 times today and specifically told him not to do the job. The tow driver left and now the whole process with AAA starts again. UGH!!!!! read more

We waited for quite a while yesterday for an oil change and tire rotation. This was not a problem. We left before service was done, as staff rarely wore masks, and frequently, when wearing them, were not wearing them properly -- not over nose and mouth or pulled down completely. Also, customers were allowed into the store without masks. Staff never mentioned this to them. read more

Brought in for tire rotation...They said I needed new front brakes...was a bit surprised as was just at the dealer and also no squeaking or low pad warning etc...Authorized the repair but requested parts back because I wanted to see them and possibly get a 2nd opinion or ask dealer why they were supposedly so bad (rotors etc) . Got car home with tires but no brake parts went back next day. They said they "believe" these were my rotors and no way to find the pads...Not pleased read more

A dear friend took her 2011 Volkswagen Jetta with only 60k miles on it here for tires and she was told she had to replace both front struts and both rear shocks (also mount insulation kits) due to one leaky rear shock. She was given all kinds of lip-service as to why that was necessary to spend over $1300.00. I've serviced VW's for 20 plus years and it's my professional opinion this Belle Tire and it's technician, Khalil A. K. is trying to steal her hard earned money. Don't ever take your car here. My last stop at this tire store! I came into this location for the "free tire rotation" included with the $1,400 tire purchase a year ago. I was told when I arrived at 8:00 am sharp that the service would take less than one hour. This was a complete lie - even though there was only one customer before me, the service took almost three hours and I sat there watching as other customers - who were buying tire or other services - were taken care of well ahead of me. Belle ordered my fancy tire same day, installed it as promised. In and out in 30 min, no upsell, no funny business, used a coupon. Guys were nice. Tire a bit more expensive than other places but no one else had it nor could they get it same day so it was what it was. Happy to have the new tire and be done. (Curious if their "warranty" actually does cover stuff and is worth it? Usually isn't so I passed.) Over-all, the experience was fine and exceeded expectations. Note: in LA, the same tire was $240 and it takes 5 min at a local shop but I'm learning B'ham has its OWN pricing structure. read more

Terrible customer service and extremely slow. Stopped in around 8am to see if they could plug my tire. They said they were very busy that morning, but could schedule an appointment for noon. I came back at noon and spoke with a service rep. They said they would take care of the plug free of charge, and asked if I wanted any addition "add-on's". I asked if they would change the wipers. They then asked if I'd like a complimentary alignment after they fixed the tire, which I accepted. 45 minutes after turning over the keys, I asked for an update, as I wasn't given an expected completion time. They indicated I was next up, and that it should be done in 30 minutes. I walked next-door for a quick lunch, and returned 45 minutes later. I noticed my car hadn't moved, so I asked for another update. They said they were bringing it back at that time. Another 30 minutes passed and it hadn't moved. An hour after that, it was finally brought into the shop. In total, it took approximate 3 1/2 hours to plug a tire, even though I had scheduled a time to have it fixed. Upon checking out, they said my total was $190. I asked for an explanation and they indicated $25/per wiper, $25 to fix the tire, and $115 for the alignment. The only "purchase" I agreed to was the wipers, did not agree to pay for the alignment or tire plug. I told the employee that I never agreed to pay for the alignment or plug, at which time he grabbed his manager to look over the bill. The manager then indicated that the alignment never took place, and to remove that charge. Had nothing been said, they would have charged me for a service that didn't occur. I was too exhausted from sitting there for almost 4 hours to argue over the $25 plug, so I paid and left. Papers and plastic wrap was left in my car, and there was dirt all over my arm rest. Terrible experience at this location. I've had good experiences with other belle tire locations, but steer clear of this one. Zero professionalism, and extremely slow service. read more

The absolute best! I've purchased rims from this location and they always take care of me! I can't tell you how many flat tires I've got over the years and they always look out and take care of it. They make me feel at ease during stressful situations as flat tires tend to be. I've been going here since I had my first car and it's the only place I'll go. Brought my car in to have snow tires installed at 8am Weds morning. Told it would be ready at the end of the day, although to be fair, I heard the clerk turning people away on the phone, saying they were very busy. I should have paid attention! However - my car was not ready until 4:15 pm on Friday, three days later. I asked for a courtesy discount and they charged me $40. They were nice about it. However - now my car shimmies when I drive over 70 mph. It feels awful. The tires are out of balance. I will not take my car back there to be properly fixed. I'm taking it to another establishment in Ferndale with a stellar reputation. I should have gone there in the first place. read more

I spoke to my father, who went in not too long ago to get his tire patched and they charged him $40!! My dad not understanding, he went ahead and paid. I won't be going back. The only reason I give two stars is because they were my place to go for twenty five years. But the last five years have been a complete mess. My last visit (and I do mean the last) about six months ago broke me. I made an appointment for a front end alignment the day before and came in on time. They weren't busy but still got me late. Came back to me saying that I had a nail in a tire, and both tires should be replaced. Okay, really didn't think I needed them but OK, sold me 2 tires. For what ever reason they wanted to put them on the rear wheels. I have a front wheel drive. Told me my car was ready, no alignment done. Needed parts, for alignment. Told them OK, I was going to breakfast. Came back, car wasn't moved. Got the alignment, parts, tires. You think that would be it. Rattle under the car, they never bolted down the plastic shields underneath. Like I said, I won't be back. read more

Service was very friendly and the result was a rim leak which also caused my vehicle to be off balanced. The reps at Belle Tire did a quick job of repairing the leak and also balanced my tires for a very minimal fee. I'm very happy I took my car there to be looked at. read more

I went here to get a flat repaired and 20 minutes later the guy came out with an estimate for 4 new struts plus labor. Total cost would be more than $1,100 but he told me if I got it done today they would give me 10% off. The cost of parts was more than $800. I searched the part numbers provided on the estimate while they fixed my flat and found the exact same parts on amazon for a total of around $380. After they got done with my flat I asked the guy if my struts were wet. He said they weren't. I asked why they did a vehicle inspection when I was only in for a flat and he said the strut recommendation was based on the vehicle mileage. (my car had around 150,000 miles on). Then he gave me the bit about needing new struts every 50,000 miles. I asked how they knew the vehicle history and when the struts were last replaced and he said they didn't know when they were last replaced. For them to recommend 4 new struts without inspecting them or having any idea when they were last replaced tells me I should never go there again and I don't recommend you do either. read more

Deceitful and slick! BEWARE! NOT trained or experienced with repairing tires! Bell tire said they would have to charge us over $350 to get our flat tire off. The new tire is free because it was less than a year old and still under warranty. They said they needed to charge us because the lugnut was stuck and something inside was broken. The damage was likely caused by the garage that did our brake job. We wanted to bring the car to the garage that did the brake job because they would repair the broken post for free. I told them I wasn't interested in repairing the problem at bell tire just get the Lugnuts off and get the spare on so that we could drive to the other garage. They INSISTED that the only way to remove it was to remove the brakes and use a blow torch. It seemed a little intense for just trying to get a Lug nut and post out. I googled it and instantly multiple YouTube video showed up of how to fix this exact problem in under a few minutes... without removing the brakes... And without using a blow torch. I asked to talk to a manager. I got passed around to half a dozen different people on the phone who were clearly unfamiliar with my car and the situation. I continued to ask for a manager. The asked the last guy I spoke with if he was a manager and he said 'no but I'm basically like one how can I help you?' at that point I had been on hold or passed around for over 15 minutes so I gave up my quest to talk to an actual manager. He proceeded to talk in circles and wouldn't answer my direct questions about the repair. Very unprofessional. I felt uneasy about how they were so insistent that this was the ONLY way to fix it. It just didn't seem to line up. We ended up paying for a tow truck to tow the car to our trusted mechanics, and they were able to get the Lugnuts and post off within a couple minutes. No problem! They told us that whoever said that the brakes needed to be removed and they needed to use a blow torch didn't know what they were doing. (Or In my opinion trying to scam extra $) Our mechanics repaired the broken post and put on our spare. We drove back to Belle tire the next day to get our replacement tire. No one at ANY point mentioned a fee for installing the replacement tire that was under warranty. We go to pick up the car and they charge us $25 to put the replacement tire on. They told us that the tire is under warranty but we still have to pay for labor. I think it was at best lazy and at worst dishonest of them to insist that there is only one way to remove a stuck lugnut/post. Conveniently the only method they know how to remove it is labor intensive and expensive. Pretty shady. And it's straight up shady to not be upfront about the cost of labor when installing a replacement tire. This whole ordeal was because of the crappy tire we bought from them. It left me with a flat tire, stranded with two kids and then we had to go days with out our car. This is a serious inconvenience! To charge $25 to install the replacement tire definitely feels petty and stingy on their part. You sold a bad product that put my family in danger and inconvenienced us for days and you want us to chip in to help cover the cost of replacing the tire. Gross. We had neutral experiences with the belle tire on Stephenson Hwy. (that's where we originally bought the tires) But after this experience with the Woodward Belle tire I will never use this company again! read more

Where do I start with this place? Just awful. I took my car here to get my headlight replaced (bumper needs to come off to replace my headlight). They do it and only charge me around $100, fine. Not a week later the new headlight burns out. Take it back to them to have them fix it. They place it on some socket and have to charge me another $100. Finally, my headlight works for a consecutive couple of weeks. Now, the alignment of my headlight is all messed up. I call and ask if they can fix it and I'm told yes. I go up there, they look at my car, realize the bumper needs to come off to fix the job they messed up and proceed to tell me they don't have the "tools" needed to realign my headlight, that they screwed up. I've heard many more horror stories about this place. I recommend staying away, as far away as possible. read more
