I have a Wild Willy's burger every few weeks or so. They have a great selection of various specialty burgers. I usually go with the "Stampede", which includes cheese and chili on top of the burger. The buns have that buttery crispness, the burgers are usually cooked perfectly and are the perfect size. Try the onion rings! They are hand cut and battered, not the frozen type. This place gets a solid 4 stars. SOLID. Everything was good. The atmosphere was nice. Not really crowded and noisy like a usual burger place. Food was excellent. I had the Bubba BBQ and I liked it alot! BF had the Willy - just burger and nothing more, just the way he likes it. I really enjoyed the meat. It was a good chunck of meat, juicy and tender but not oozing juices. Just like a burger should be. It was perfect! We also had a large sweet potato fries (excellent), small onion rings (very good) and large root beer. The one star I took away was for service. We had to ask 3 times for our root beer to come. It came, and we both had already finished our burgers and were halfway through the fries and rings. It shouldn't be like this. Drinks should come before anything comes to the table. That said, the root beer was good. The burgers are well priced. The sides are slightly expensive and the root beer was very expensive. Almost $4 for a medium sized drink? Wild Willy's burgers are top notch! The meat is very flavorful and they have a wide variety of fresh & delicious toppings. I'm pretty picky when it comes to BBQ sauce. My like my ideal sauce to have more of a smokey flavor over sweet and to be a thicker base instead of thin & watery. I'd rate Willy's BBQ sauce a solid B. The steak fries have a decent seasoning, and their onion rings are good. I would put them in the middle of the road... my favorites are thick cut, beer battered rings. I'm not a fan of thin flaky rings. But these fall in the middle... decent thickness but they can be a bit flaky at times. A bonus point for them is that they serve beers. This place has consistently been my favorite burger joint for 8 years. My go-to is the La Bamba (with salsa and jack cheese) or the Bubba BBQ (with bacon). My boyfriend got the special the other day, which was a blend of beef and Italian sausage. AMAZEBALLS. I can only kick myself for not having seen the specials board before placing my order. They've made many improvements since my high school days such as adding all these fancy, expensive alternative cow options. Pretty sure some of those heifers get more exercise than I do. ROOT BEER! OK, the root beer's not the only reason I go to Wild Willy's, but it's important. I often find myself wishing that my root beer was bigger. The fries here are great too; they remind me of fries that I'd eat at the fair when I was a kid. Of course, the burgers are important (though in my mind, secondary to the fries and root beer). Try the Rio Grande for a burger smothered in jalapenos, the Bubba BBQ burger, or plain ol' cheddar and bacon. They also have buffalo, which is delicious and should be tried if you've never had it. I've been to Wild Willy's a few times as I live just a couple miles away and it's delicious! I'm not a big burger eater, so when I want one, I want the best one. Everything is fresh and made to order. Even the lettuce on the burger tasted like it was just picked from the farm. Their fries are incredible. Not coated, not too oily. Literally fresh potatoes dunked in the fryer just long enough to get hot and a tiny bit crispy. Skins on! My favorite is the conestoga (I think that's what it's called.) Best burger I've had outside my own grill. Choice of delicious plump juicy beef or the healthier grass-fed. Perfectly cooked. If I say medium rare, it really is medium rare! The root beer is delicious. So is the unsweetened ice tea, which is a great option to be healthier.Oh and I love that you can buy an onion ring "garnish" which is just three onion rings. Ample parking, in the center of Watertown and a stone's throw from anything you might be doing in Cambridge or Belmont. Fun ambiance for a group. It's often busy, but staff is efficient and line moves fast. If you're getting take out, call first and it is ready at the takeout window. Upon further review... Wild Willy's has upped its game. They now offer the option of organic, grass-fed beef (albeit for an extra $1.50 on top of an already pricey burger) and have lots of accompaniments to smile about including: beer, tasty fries, delicious ice cream and frappes, tasty root beer and root beer floats. I thoroughly enjoyed my last visit (and my grass-fed Wild Willy burger) but I have a few last gripes...their patties are good but need more seasoning and they need a spicy burger option (though they do offer jalapenos as an extra). P.S. I love the name of the Dances With Wolves-inspired Tatonka bison burger. Brilliant! read more

This place is okay...the kinda place when once you're in there you're getting pumped up but its easy to drive past in the search for food. One thing that drives me insane is its so expensive for standard burgers/fries/shakes. Also the wait time is unreal...they even posted a sign about how you're going to WAIT for them to cook your burger...yes I'm familar with the practice of ordering, them cooking and me waiting...happens at most restaurants but this place just seems to take foreverrrrrr. This place is pretty cool. There was a wall painting of a pasteur with a line of bison. The center of the place has an old wagon like thing. There is a limited amount of tables. Had the Spicy Cactus (veggie burger), which was like a compacted chili patty with lettuce and tomato on a bun!! Yum. The sweet potato fries and onion rings were delicious! They weren't coated in oil! Nothing to complain about but nothing spectacular. Be aware of the prices, they are a little expensive. We decided to try the pinelands beef, didn't taste any different than the certified angus beef. Only difference was the price. We ordered the Santa Fe (medium well), Bandito (medium well) and two Bubba BBQ burgers (medium well and medium rare). The burgers were a little over cooked. The medium well were very dry. The medium rare was more like the medium well. The portions were quite large. You will be full off of one burger. The side portions seem like they'll be small but they pile the fries high on top of each other and you have plenty. The Chili Cheese fries and regular fries were pretty good. read more

As far as local burger joints go, this is the best I have found!! Ya, the prices are crazy... but the food is fresh and the service has mostly been good. The new grass-fed burgers are really yummy and I just love the hand-cut fries. I always enjoy a visit to Wild Willys. Though the usual burger, fries, and drink are pricier than your typical burger joint, it's worth it. First their fresh hand cut to order fries are the best in Boston. I always order a draft root beer, perfectly flavored to wash everything down with (and begging for some ice cream, which they offer as well). The burgers have a wild west theme. Yes, the decor does as well, but I mean the toppings and names. My favorite is the Rio Grand, which has cheddar and green chiles that are slightly spicy but also sweet and really just round out the meal. Stopped by the other day for dinner with my teenage son. He had normal willie burger with cheese, cheese fries and chocolate shake. I had grassfed burger with cheese and bacon, onion rings and lime rickey. Total bill - $33. My grass fed chargrilled burger was very good but at a cost of $10 not sure if worth it. Onions rings fresh but undercooked. Lime Rickey was excellent. Son's chocolate shake wasnt that thick or memorable. I think you can get basically the exact same meal (less grass fed beef) at Cabots in Newton for less and better quality. read more

So we walked into Wild Willy's Burgers hoping to get a taste of their famous burgers. We walked in 20 minutes before 9pm. We noticed that they were cleaning up . Putting their stools and chairs on tables. We just wanted to get something to go. We didn't plan on staying . We were totally ignored as if we were invisible. It was actually pretty funny. If they said to us that the kitchen was closing I would of respected that. But they blatantly ignored us. The cleaning crew was even asking for them to go to the register. Wild Willy western decor misses the mark but they make up for it with tasty and affordable burgers. The pride themselves on healthy 'baked' fries and root beer from a keg. I would definitely recommend the root beer but the fries were a little thick and far from crispy. Willy's is cheap and they serve beer. Yum! Delicious selection of not-your-average burgers, though I always order the Annie Oakley (juicy burger, blue cheese, lettuce, tomato, red onion). I always want to go all out with the works: raspberry lime-rickey, fries, ice cream, but then I have to remind myself how long I would need to stay at the gym to make up for it. They even serve beer and wine! Not crazy about their regular fries, they're too potato-y, but the sweet potato ones are good. My boyfriend says that the Spicy Cactus burger is the best veggie burger he has ever had, he orders it often even though he's usually quite the carnivore. Bland, soft french fries (I tried both the regular and the sweet potato) really takes this place down a couple notches. And why don't more reviews talk about the fact that you order your food after waiting in line and the seat yourself in a loud eating area that feels like a cafeteria because the places is crawling with kids! None of that is necessarily bad, I just needed a heads up. My burger (blue cheese and a side of bacon) was good, but I asked for no bun and some extra lettuce and I got one piece of lettuce. Really? So I was on a trip to the Watertown Mall and me and my boyfriend were getting hungry but I was in no mood for the food that surrounds the mall so we went on a hunt. We stumbled upon Wild Willy's and thought, why not?! I've definitely had better. We were greeted by two kids running around screaming, not my cup of tea. I know that its not the restaurants fault but I hated it anyway. But when I asked some questions about the menu, the girl behind the counter couldn't answer ANY of my questions and it was getting pretty annoying. I love burgers but recently realized that my poor tummy can't handle the fat and grease that comes with it so I've switched to turkey burgers. Sadly, this place doesn't have turkey burgers so I actually got their special of a Buffalo Chicken sandwich with fries and a raspberry lime ricky. The first couple of bites were okay but then my taste buds realized that there was too much hot sauce and no buffalo. MOUTH ON FIRE!! And nothing helped especially the raspberry lime ricky which seemed to just taste like lime seltzer water with no raspberry in sight. I did like the fries and coleslaw (first time I've ever tried it) and I tasted my boyfriends burger, quite good. All in all, I'm glad we tried it but I'm sure we wont be going back any time soon. I used to think this place was IT for burgers and its A OK,,,as the stars above will tell you. But, the service is well, DOPEY. Its run by kids who are either very nice or checked- out. Seems like nothing in between. OK well, lets get to the burgers. They are nice and hot and juicy but they are not particularly flavorful. Isn't that what its all about. the FLAVOR of the meat, not all the cr#p you put on it. (You wouldn't put that on a steak would ya?)...anyway, Fries are pretty good and lots of vinegar is available. BTW, the fish was pretty good if you dare break ranks... They bring you your food which is another nice plus, after ordering at the counter...which is always "interesting" as an experience. I always perfer grass fed cause Im trying to save the planet and that seems to up the flavor factor a bit, so I recommend that extra cost. I had an amusing conversation however, about that cost, in which I was told that if I get a plain grass fed it would cost more than if I got one of the "named" versions. which makes no sense. The ghetto wanna-be kid at the register then yielded to Miss I Ain't About No Congeniality, and straightened it out. Another funny bit was, I was told that I probably should clean off the top of the can of diet that I just bought. I then asked him how I might achieve that little task, to which he seemed completely and utterly stumped and at a loss as how to help his customer in this quintessential existential moment, and gave me a sincere shrug of the shoulders and mentioned the bathroom... pretty funny. The atmosphere was quite nice, not authentic western but nice. The service was veru friendly, fast, and curtious, I also liked how they brought your order to your table. I got the Buffalo Bill Bison Burger and it was quite good. Nice flavor and the right amound of condiments. I also had the sweet potato fries which were cooked well. It was terrible, the meat was purple, the onions cold, the cheese completely unmelted. Let me repeat that, the burger was purple. Yes purple. Wild Willy's has a special place in the hearts of my wife and I. Before moving back up to this area, we discovered the Ogunquit Beach location while on vacation. Whenever we came back for visits, we would make a trip back to Willy's, often to stand in lines that stretched out the door, just for another taste of their mouth watering burgers. Much to our surprise, Willys opened a new location right down the street about a month after we moved back to the area. Willy's served Angus Burgers right before it became really trendy. I think it was the first place I ever had an Angus burger I can remember. It's a good quality burger with a wide array of possible toppings and combos. The fries and onion rings are decent compliments. For drinks, don't forget to order a draft rootbeer or milkshake both hit the spot with a burger (it is telling that I would rather order one of these beverages than a beer, and I mean what normally goes better with a burger than beer!) Willy's is a great burger joint which is a slight step up from fast food in terms of prices, but a giant leap in terms of taste if you are a burger aficionado. My favorite is the Bubba Burger with BBQ and bacon, to which I add jalapeno. Burger perfection as far as I am concerned. The only draw back is you can usually expect lackluster fastfood type service, and my order has been bobbled more than once. The lukewarm service has still not kept me from coming back. read more

I would really do a 2.5 star rating if I could. Oh, Wild Willy...I really wanted to like you. Yes, yes we did. Did I finish it off with a carrot cake cupcake? You betcha. Did I feel like a bowling ball was sitting in the pit of my stomach that evening? Unfortunately, yes. But I digress. I really wanted to enjoy it. It smelled so delicious when I walked in that I was sure it wouldn't disappoint. I got a bacon cheeseburger with BBQ sauce and side of fries. It wasn't bad, but not the best I've had. I got the grass fed beef and I found it lacking, what I would call, seasoning. I would say that the meat itself had decent flavor but wasn't salted or anything prior to being grilled. The fries were soggy. Given that it was part of my once per year food binge, maybe I expected too much. Or maybe the negative physical feeling from eating two bacon cheeseburgers, two orders of fries, and a cupcake has slightly altered my memory. I probably won't return. read more
