Installation just finished on a four-unit Quilt mini-split system. Very new product and I'm excited about the aesthetics, usability and efficiency. My experience with Bellows has been an interesting one. TLDR; highly recommended and check out the Quilt system! - - - I had originally scheduled an estimator to come out an give a price on replacing a whole house gas furnace with a heat pump system but was also considering a multi-head mini-split system. The technician who came out was knowledgable and introduced me to the Quilt system. He was not pushy at all, simply said that it was a new system that showed a lot of promise. After reading a bit more about it, I was sold! The promise of efficiency was intriguing and the usability and aesthetics sealed the deal. It took about a month to really get things going, but once they started, the installation team was great! Very professional, efficient and tidy. On the third day of installation, I had inquired about the condenser unit location. It was placed in a prominent and highly visible location at the front of the house and I thought there was a good alternate location - moving it back about 5' and rotating it 90 degrees. I definitely missed the window of time when this should have been asked, and to move it would require some additional work. The initial response was not empathetic or customer satisfaction- minded, the quote for the change order was prohibitively high and I ended the phone call feeling very frustrated. Within minutes, one of the owners, was on the phone. Chelsea put on a MASTERCLASS in conflict resolution. She made a personal connection, approached the situation with humility and grace, quickly establishing empathy in both directions. Chelsea found a delicate balance between defending her business and wanting to help find a solution by sharing more detailed information about the systems and installation process, and asking questions about why I wanted to change the location. Like most customer-service facing professionals, she articulated that she wanted me to be happy with the product and service and that the company would make it right. But unlike the majority of those people, it did not come across as condescending - she was genuine, willing to explore options, and ultimately took the time to gather more information and see what options were actually available. The installation manager, Del, came out the next morning, worked with the installers to find an efficient solution to move the unit, and the system was completed within the original schedule. The two-man installation team ended up working a little later, and even on a Friday afternoon before a long weekend, showed professionalism and patience in testing the system, cleaning up, and making sure all of my questions were answered before calling the job complete. Ultimately, I am very satisfied with my Bellow's experience and would recommend. I am very impressed with Chelsea and her handling of the situation. The response they made to my "accusations" makes sense, it's important to report every review and try to have it removed by claiming it is not an actual experience. You obviously didn't check your records very well because the work was done in March 12, 2021, and you were out recently on May 7, 2026 to give me an estimate on the warranty repair. Bellows Plumbing: Mini split review In November of 2023, I needed to replace my old gas wall heater. Our home is older and we needed something new. I decided on a Lennox mini split system after seeing a display at Costco. The package included having Bellows Plumbing, a local HVAC contractor install the system. We had this work done in January of 2024. Everything worked quite well until the late fall of 2025. We had had the system for almost two years. When the temperatures fell into the lower 40's, the Lennox system quit heating and would just blow cold air. I called Bellows and they sent out a technician. After explaining my problem one of the first things he said was, "Look how you're dressed." I was in shorts and a T shirt. This was before he even checked the unit (he later denied saying this upon his third visit). I told him my old thermostat registered at 55 degrees and he told me those old things didn't work. I told him again, the unit just blew cold air when the temperature got into the lower 40's. He checked the unit said everything was working correctly and left. When the temperature again got into the lower 40's, the unit still did not work. I called again and the same tech came out and said he couldn't find anything wrong. I suggested maybe I wasn't using the remote correctly and he agreed and left. I made sure I was using the remote correctly and the unit still did not heat our home and blew cold air. I called a third time and Bellows sent the same tech. By this time something else had gone wrong with the unit and it no longer worked at all. He checked it and did not seem to know how to get into it to look. He beat it up a bit taking a panel off. When he was finished, he blamed the problem on a power surge and said I needed to call their electrician. By this time I was done with Bellows Plumbing. I called Lennox and an overseas service representative said I need to call Costco and gave me a number. When I called the number another overseas rep told me if I gave her my bank account number, I had won a $300 gift card. So I had been given a scam number. I found the correct number and the Lennox/Costco rep talked in circles and took no interest in the scam number. So, I have a $10,000 Lennox mini split unit in my backyard that I have not bothered to fix as of May 14th, 2026. Why throw good money after bad? read more

It's the middle of July, the fog is in, it's cold outside and it's time to have our Lennox A/C serviced by Bellows. This is a shout-out to Dan Fisherbaugh and his professional service. I received a phone call from Dan about five minutes before his arrival; a text as he was pulling down the drive - no guessing when he was going to arrive. Dan had been here before as part of the annual service agreement (which is a great value) we have with Bellows. He set the thermostat to A/C and started cooling the house down for his testing. Checked the actual A/C unit, which is outside, changed and dated the new air filters I had purchased and placed tape with today's date on the heater so I know when to call for next years appointment. Their price was fair, the work was neat, and because I'm *not exactly known for remembering maintenance*, I signed up for their $300/year service plan. A year later, they actually hunted me down (three calls and an AI scheduler later!) to make sure I stayed on track. During the visit, I mentioned a minor heating delay -- the tech patiently listened to my "rambling explanation," ran extra tests, and found the culprit: a small computer part that's being replaced **under warranty**. I should have written this review a year ago but I feel it is important others know to beware about Bellows bids. On June 23rd, 2025 I received a bid from one of their technicians to replace a 75 gallon gas water heater. The technician was really a slick sales agent trying to sell me on converting to either a heat pump or an "on demand" system that would require a lot of changes to the plumbing system. I had to insist that I wanted to "keep it simple" and just replace the gas water heater with a similar gas water heater. I asked that the bid include detail that spelled out material and labor costs. When I got the bid I was surprised that the total cost was $9,847. While the bid had a lot of detail regarding what they would do, it had no cost break out. I later called their office and requested a cost for the water heater and was told $5,000. Needless to say I got other bids. In the end I purchased the exact same water heater they suggested for $2,787 (delivered). The installation cost from a local plumber was only $1,146. So the total cost was only $3,933. That is almost a $6,000 savings! Please beware before accepting their bids. Get other bids. read more

It's been 4 years since my Lennox Heating/AC system was installed and I continue to use Bellows for service and maintenance. Ryan is my "go to" guy. He knows the unit well and tweaks it whenever I notice an issue. Got a new thermostat controller on warranty when the original kept losing communication with the remote thermostat. Adjusted heat pump temp and flow rate when I needed a boost in certain areas. System operates well and service is always timely. read more

I needed maintenance on a whole-house fan (installed years ago by a now-defunct company), as well as my air-conditioning system. Was able to make a next-day appointment. Dave arrived well-within the estimated window, and alerted me when he was on his way. He climbed into my attic, took photos of my fan assembly showing a drive belt that was fraying. I asked if he could please stay longer and replace the belt, and he did so, as well as thoroughly inspecting and cleaning the A/C condenser. The fan is much quieter now. Bellow Plumbing, Heating and Air does quality work, and the service and sales personnel are friendly and courteous. The issue is: Bellows has a schedule of pricing that determines the fee for jobs and particular repairs. And the fees are very substantial. I mean, be prepared to pay. While Bellows has performed considerable work for us, when it was time to replace the tankless water heater, Bellows priced the repair at perhaps $3000 more than another local company. The other (nameless) company performed the repair and 18 months on, there have been no problems. Or, Bellows offers an annual home maintenance contract for the plumbing and HVAC systems. It is widely advertised at a fee of $300 - a not unreasonable price. However, the contract include only one mini split if you have a heat pump system. You have to read the small print to register this limitation. We have three mini-splits in our heat pump system, so Bellows charged an additional $118 - to inspect all the mini-splits. Now the fee for the annual maintenance contract is $418. Hardly a bargain! The last inspection required about 30 minutes of the technician's time. I felt a bit exploited. I mean, the heat pump is only two years old and rarely used for its A/C, and was installed at a high-end price. Would you have imagined that the installation was performed by... go on, take a guess...Okay, it was Bellows Plumbing. read more

Where do I start? From the beginning I knew this was going to be a challenging venture. I was seeking to replace two (2) HVAC systems and one hot water heater with heat pumps and a tankless water heater. I knew it was not going to be cheap. And trying to do my due diligence I research for a lengthy period of time, with several bids offered on the projects. I had many questions for everyone but after about a month I decided to go with Bellows. I have not regretted it one bit. This is exactly the kind of work they do and it shows. They have dedicated teams of well trained and experienced professionals who take the time to properly do their jobs. All of them. I don't exactly know what, exactly, he was referring to but for me of note were Pete, the sales representative, full of knowledge and good on the answers. He was followed by Del the overseer with innovative, creative ideas, Sean, whom I referred to as the wizard who best works alone, Jose who was impeccable, clean, polite and precise, Anthony, full of energy and personality, solid at his job and Matt, Ben, Will and Vinnie all whom tackled the hot water heater in such a fast, clean, efficiency manner I hardly had the chance to know them. Every day things were cleared and cleaned, space was respected, and genuine kindness emanated from all. So...heater stopped working during these cold front days and found out it was installed in 1995! From the very beginning Bellowes (who had come very highly recommended) were super impressive. The first visit was the technician coming to give and estimate to fix the current dinosaur. Since that cost was putting good on bad, opted to have estimates done for a new furnace. Robert came out and was so professional-born to do this job. He provided multiple estimates but first asked questions to learn about what would be the right fit for us...how long were we planning to live in the house etc. Once he was informed he provided six different estimates and walked me through the pros and cons of each one. Felt so good about what was recommended which ended up being the most economical. Robert ensured to put a rush on it knowing we were without heat. It is installation day! Yay. Michael and Kiernan arrived on time and ready to get to work. They made sure the area was clear (especially since the install was next to my car) and went to work. There were all sort of complexities based on the age of our home and there was literally no detail they did not look at finding solutions for to ensure we would get the most out of our furnace. Outcome is a beautiful new furnace...all the vent outlets were checked and repaired where needed and cleaned! They left the space clean and free from any debris and walked me through the work. Its not alway the case that you find a company that has good ethics and also does excellent work. Bellows has proven to be both. Matt was a pleasure to work with- highly skilled, knowledgeable and friendly. He came out and gave an honest assessment of the work we needed to do, 1) installed a p trap in our laundry room (thank god the smelly sewer smell is gone) and 2) installed a pressure reducing valve to address our high water pressure issue. He also noticed when behind our dryer that our gas line had a flimsy top needed a cap while doing the work and helped reduce a noisy toilet. I appreciate the above and beyond service. There was a tiny blip with reception about a future quote cost but the manager, Patrick sorted it out. Would recommend and when we are ready to do the addt'l work, we will use Bellows again. Bellows fixed a problem created by Marin Clean Energy. They went above and beyond for us when our heat went out, and I'm so grateful for that. MCE offered us a new "eco friendly" thermostat with a free installation. Unfortunately, the person who installed the thermostat made a mess of the wires behind it, and it resulted in our thermostat acting very strangely and then in our heat going out completely (right when the cold and rain started). Bellows was sympathetic to our issue, scheduled us as soon as they could, and showed up on time and with a professional attitude. I have had a furnace replaced then added a dehumidifier and an air conditioner to the home all at different times. I was happy with all three teams so I assume their entire staff is competent. I subscribe to their maintenance program which includes heat/A-C and plumbing. The recent techs were competent and friendly. I had great experience at Bellows in the past but recently it is not so great. Every time I contact them the price for estimating the issue is higher. The most recent price was $189 to just come over and take a look. That is higher than the other companies I've contacted. Given I've had some service done in the past by Bellows I'd prefer to stay with the same company but not when the price to estimate the issue is twice what the others charge. read more

We had the worst experience with Bellows from start to finish! It took them a month to do a job that was supposed to take a week. They were messy, damaged our property, unprofessional, rude, not equipped to do repiping, and added things to the bill at the end which was included in the contract. One example is an additional $450 for a permit which was already included in the contract($11,0000) when we signed it. I have included pictures as they speak louder than any words. My husband is in construction and is very aware of how these things should be handled. The details are below: We had Bellows come to our house to replace the old galvanized water lines in our house including the main service from the meter at the street with new copper piping. It was an unfortunate and frustrating process from start to finish. We had a pre job walk through with the technician and called 811 that same day to get the underground survey done before the trenching for the new water service. We were told that once the 811 survey was complete it would take 2-3 days to get scheduled and start the job. With this in mind we sent a deposit and was told that now the job could not start for another 12 days. Once the job started we were told that it would take a week to complete. Not only did it take 4 times that long, there were numerous issues that came up during the work. Scheduling issues, and timeline for construction under estimated by a great deal. Sloppy work, scrap pipe left in trench. Worker lunch trash left in the yard. Dirty fingerprints on walls inside and outside of the house. Workers were leaving for the day on a Friday and as I was looking over what was done, I noticed that the angle stop valve at the toilet was leaking and no hot water coming out of the shower. Luckily I ran out of the house and stopped them from leaving or I would have had a leaky valve at my toilet and no hot water in the shower. We have a small house and only have one toilet and shower so we would have been without hot water in shower and a leak all weekend. Then I looked in the crawl space and noticed scrap pipe laying around and no insulation on the hot water lines that were supposed to be there. The blocking behind the bathroom sink was not fastened on both sides so the pipe was able to be pulled out of the wall several inches. I fixed this myself. They were unable to properly strap the risers at the Kitchen sink, so if the faucet was pulled on it would come away from the wall. This is another item that I had to take care of myself. I understand they are plumbers, not carpenters but simply properly strapping the pipes should be something that they could take care of. We have old tiles as the backsplash in the Kitchen that we were very concerned about being broken because we would have been unable to find matching tiles if they were damaged. After trying I was told that they could not remove the old pipes without breaking out the tile to do so. I stopped them from doing that and had to get the pipe out myself. When installing the new faucet at the Kitchen sink they used nipples that were too long causing the faucet to not be able to go flush against the wall. The pipes at the bathroom sink and toilet were too long causing the angle stops to be off the wall by about two inches, not flush as they should have been. Plastic liner over the copper main was nicked and damaged, so I had to use tape to repair to avoid the new copper from being exposed to the ground. When it was time to pay the remaining balance of the bill they added an additional $450 on the bill never telling us this but tried to slip it by us. When I looked into it further it was for permitting but in the initial contract it said all permits were included. The job itself cost over 11 grand and they tried to slip an extra $450 into the bill without us realizing it. So shady! This was definitely a very frustrating experience for us. Find a different company. I am posting this review because, incredibly, the general manager of Bellows Plumbing in San Rafael, Chelsea Schlunt, actually offered me money to NOT post a negative review. I have never needed to post a negative review, but I want to alert potential buyers to the frustration and needless expense I experienced. I hired Bellows to install a minisplit system in my home and studio. The mechanics of the system work well, the technicians were professional, but the design was flawed. The minisplit in my main room was placed in the wrong location, heating the kitchen area but not the living area. Additionally, the heat pump Bellows installed (42,000 BTU) was inadequate when the minisplits were operating at the same time (total of 48,000 BTU). The trouble with Bellows is how the joint owner continually denied there was a problem with the system's design. When I stated I was cold, she said, unhelpfully, she was cold too. Not a response either satisfying or sensitive to me as an older woman. Her suggestion: just purchase a thermostat for almost $1,000 dollars more, to make the minisplit work harder. A "bandaid" solution, not an economical solution. Furthermore, she is inconsistent and seems to have a problem keeping her facts straight. For example, each time I voiced a problem with the system, Chelsea insisted I pay for the visit as "service maintenance." She later referred to them as being "complimentary." My frustration led me to hiring another plumbing company to assess the situation. When I notified her of their discovery that the minisplit was indeed in the wrong place AND the heat pump's rating was inadequate to potential demand, that's the time she offered me money to NOT post a negative review. I did need to spend a considerable amount of money to rectify the bad design. Chelsea may attempt to rebut my review here, suggesting I have missed some details. She may suggest that I aired my grievance late (as I transitioned over time to use wood burning heat less, and the minisplit system more). Here is what no twist of language can refute: the system design was simply flawed from the beginning. I have kept detailed records of my dialogues with Chelsea over the course of nearly FOUR YEARS. Disregarding the ordinary terms of good business practice, she never specifically answered my grievance about the system's design. She could have easily pulled this out of the fire by just listening to the facts I relayed to her instead of resisting and trying to make me wrong.
