I came here on Saturday morning with three other people and we waited close to an hour for our table. The wait wasn't too bad since it gave us time to grab a cup of coffee and explore the area. Once we got seated, I noticed the ambiance was bright and nice and our server was very friendly and attentive. I got the Smoked Salmon Omelette which comes with a side of Yukon potatoes. The omelette was okay. I was expecting it to be more saucy or creamy since it had yogurt on the inside, but the overall dish still tasted a bit dry. I also wished the shallots were a bit more pickled to add some more flavor. The Yukon potatoes were amazing though, they had a perfectly fluffy interior with a crispy exterior. My boyfriend got the breakfast sandwich and I wished I opted for that too. The sandwich was delicious. The sausage was super juicy and flavorful. I like how the menu is more limited, so if I wanted to try something new from their menu, I would definitely come back. read more

Ben Paris. Situated on the street level of the State Hotel at one of the entrances to Pike Place. I had hoped to try this place last April but circumstances interrupted. Tonight the girlfriends and I decided it was time. The occasion was bites and drinks before the Seattle Symphony performing Bach's St. John's Passion for the first time: in honor of the 300th anniversary of its inaugural performance on Good Friday, April 7th 1724. Highly recommend Réservations through OpenTable. First girlfriend arrived by bus and made sure to order the clams and the butternut squash soup and the crab salad. Second girlfriend arrived by light rail just as I walked in. We added buttermilk hush puppies, the kale cauliflower Caesar salad, and fried halloumi cheese to the table. Girlfriend number one got a Mocktail. Girlfriend number two got a glass of white. And I got the spring drink that donated one dollar for international women's day. Drink was a thing of beauty. It involved some many things I love including muddled fresh mint, fresh berries, fresh (not dried) lemonade slices, and an unholy strength of bourbon. The clams were delicious especially with the hunks of toasted sourdough. Regrettably the soupy base was too too salty to really enjoy, even when cut with the bread, so we decided to use the bread to sop up the butternut squash soup which was beautifully balanced and wonderful in so many ways. The crab salad was so fresh and truly delicious you kind of wished you had three servings, one for each of us. But hands-down our favorite was the kale cauliflower salad. Don't miss that one. There's something wonderful about the kale being chopped up so it's not overwhelming to chew and having the cauliflower sliced and tossed in all that delicious shredded shredded cheese with the toppings. We asked for extra fresh lemon slices because that brought out the flavor of the salad. The butternut milk jalapeño hush puppies were very easy to eat with the pimento cheese dip. Despite the name, this place is not French food but an upscale bistro serving delicious food and drinks. My first impression of this place was good but not great. The service was acceptable but did not wow me. I got my food, and enjoyed it, I just didn't get a lasting impression. A very modern ambiance helps but I don't think I would come back. Got the chance to dine at Ben Paris after discovering them on Mina Oh's YouTube channel where she praised her experience. The ambiance is sophisticated and the prices were fair. The food was beautifully presented and our overall expectations were met. It's just a really love place to have a meal even if you're dining at the bar (which is exactly what we did as it was atleast an hour wait for seating at a regular table). The service was welcoming and the location is more than convenient as they're located just a block from Pikes Market. If you're looking for an elegant spot to bring a casual date for lunch - it's Ben Paris. We'll definitely be back (hopefully soon) so that we can try their dinner menu. I honestly hate writing negative reviews, but our experience here was so uncomfortable that I feel like I have to share. My family and I waited about 30 minutes at our table without anyone coming by to take a drink order. It wasn't particularly busy, so we were confused but trying to be patient. When we finally asked if we could order drinks, the female owner responded with a very passive-aggressive "Sure." The tone alone was uncomfortable. She eventually brought the drinks over and then said, "You know being nice doesn't hurt." We were completely stunned. We had asked politely and had been quietly waiting the entire time. To be spoken to like that in front of my family was embarrassing and unnecessary. We came in expecting a pleasant meal and left feeling awkward and unwelcome. I got a coffee drink, a couple folks got a gorgeous gin & tonic with a ton of garnishes. First course, some of us got carrots, some got butternut squash soup. Both were very tasty! I'm from Los Angeles, but was visiting Seattle for a friend's wedding, and one of my friends recommended this place as a brunch/lunch place. We didn't make it for lunch but ended up coming for dinner. Ambiance: This location was pretty chic-looking, and apparently, we needed reservations, which we made (but correct me if i'm wrong). And it's in a pretty nice area of downtown I think, I can see it being a good place for brunch Service: The service was pretty good, our server was very friendly and helpful with recommendations. Food/Value: I ended up splitting the beef burger and fries with my girlfriend, and we both got our own mocktails. While the food itself was good, it was very expensive, a lot more than I was expecting. The mocktail I got was the juice box. But it was $10 and no free refills, and it was just juice and soda. And the entree we got was $26 before tax and tip, which is pretty crazy for what we got. I get that this is an expensive part of town, and a higher-end restaurant, but I would have hoped to have had an experience similar to what I was paying for. I'm sure the brunch menu would have been a different experience, as the photos I've seen look very aesthetic for the brunch items. Overall, the food and service were good, but not sure if it justifies the price. But i'm sure other people who have different price tolerances would think it's fine and love this place. Ben Paris is a classy, cool place to catch up with friends or hangout with a loved one. Their brunch menu offers a great variety of sweet and savory options, none of their menu items are too overwhelming in my opinion but sometimes when you're out for brunch, all you want is something that will give you a kick. I didn't find that kick at Ben Paris. Their truffle-parmesan fries were delicious and offered a nice crunch, eggs were okay (cooked nicely but not quite seasoned enough for me). Their ricotta pancakes were delicious with a soft center and crispy edge. They're perfect for someone who is not the biggest fan of sweets. Their servers were polite but a bit inattentive, it took a while to get my order and once I wrapped up, it took a while to get the bill. Overall, I think I got a good try of what Ben Paris has to offer but maybe during my next visit, I'll bring something to distract me in between wrapping up my meal and waiting for my server. Order their ricotta pancakes and vegetable hash and you won't regret it. Absolutely delicious with perfect flavoring and an appetizing presentation. They also have friendly staff and are very respectful of personal space without seeming standoffish! It's a delicate balance... Their coffee was strong a bit acidic and bitter, I'd recommend the espresso beverages instead. A cappuccino is only a $1 more than the drip coffee which I found odd in terms of pricing the menu. The guy from the previous time who took almost 20 mins to greet us and get our order and a lady who would skip over our table to check on the two beside us up until the point we were already eating our food. The absolute worst meal I've ever had. Came here for Thanksgiving dinner and everything was awful. The turkey was gamey, the mashed potatoes, stuffing and gravy were all gluey. The bitter greens did not taste fresh nor were they dressed well. The cranberry was sour. The green beans were burned and topped with goopy white sauce (I actually sent these back and asked them to please taste them so they knew what they were sending out. They never sent a replacement). Even the caramel on the pumpkin tart was bitter. I couldn't believe they were actually serving this. Texture was not good and everything was way under seasoned. I know it's a holiday and the place was busy but there's no excuse for how bad it was. A very expensive mistake. Even though the server was working hard to make sure everyone had what they needed I was never asked if I needed a refill on my drink. Staff seemed overwhelmed. All the food came out at different times, we were done with turkey before we even got the potatoes. I'm from the south so I definitely prefer more flavorful dishes so I'm not sure if this is the intended flavor level but the avocado toast overall was very bland which was disappointing as the presentation was very nice. I ended up drowning it in hot sauce as well as adding salt and pepper which I rarely add to my food. There are two entrances - we went in through the hotel side so we had to walk to the other end of the restaurant to be greeted by the host. What a strange dining experience. I sometimes do notice the level of treatment I get is different as an occasional solo diner when I ask for a 1-top table versus ask to sit at the bar in an establishment. I personally don't understand it as a former bartender and server (tips are tips and frankly, I had 2+ top tables jip me on a tip way more than a solo diner ever did). Since it was breakfast service, early, and there was a small table available (and it wasn't too crowded), I hoped asking for a table wouldn't be trouble. Apparently I was a huge inconvenience to the staff and they certainly made me feel like it. My server constantly checked on the two tables directly next to me (like, less than a foot away), but couldn't bother to check on me more than once. I would totally be understanding if I could see the waiter was overwhelmed, but he had more than enough time to check in with every other table in his section (including both seated directly next to me) 3+ times. My pancakes were borderline burnt (a noticeable difference from the pancakes ordered at both tables next to me). I wanted to flag this to the waiter but he never came to my table even when I tried to flag him down. I eventually ate some of the stack and was planning to order another drink, but quickly grew agitated when I realized I was being completely ignored. I waited over 15 minutes for my waiter to come by and clear my plate (after I set my plate to indicate I was done eating) and ask if I wanted the check, which he never did--the HOSTESS had to step away from her stand, clear my table, and bring me the check. I appreciate her attentiveness and kindness in what was a very expensive, bland, and cold environment. I understand the "Seattle freeze" is real, but please teach your waiters how to talk to people and build basic conversation skills and manners. Do not recommend wasting your money here. read more

The restaurant was packed with locals and the menu was very limited. Our service was incredibly slow with 20+ min gaps between being seated and ordering drinks, then 20+ more minutes to order food. Drinks arrived after the food. The halibut was very well prepared, but the lamb pasta and braised short rib were only so so. The fried chicken was burnt and dry. We had gotten the truffle fries, which were amazingly perfectly seasoned and crispy. The poke nachos were a solid 4/5 though a bit more on the salty side as you continued to eat them. My friend got the the Caesar salad and said it was good - definitely recommend getting it was fried chicken rather than grill. Only downside is the limited options on the brunch menu.
