I actually love this tea place so much, the quality of the tea is really good. It has one of my favorite oolong milk teas. But the last two times I went, they've made my drink wrong. The first time they got it wrong there were a lot of people there so were no hard feelings but the sugar level was definitely wrong. It was a Saturday night, and there were 4 people in front of me, and my drink took about 20 min to make. The people who ordered after me got their drinks before me. Which confused me a little but it's ok. They apologized for the wait too. Today I went again and it was basically empty inside cause it's Monday at 3 pm. I got the DaHongPao cloud milk tea and a mango mochi frost. The mango mochi frost is all good but there is no sugar in my milk tea, even though I always get 75% sweet. It's disappointing to say the least, I do think I'll come back but hopefully my next experience is better. read more

I waited at the front for a while to place my order, but none of the staff noticed me. I ended up using their kiosk instead. The line can get pretty long during rush hour, so be prepared for a wait. I'm finally glad I found a good boba place near the Market! This replaced Cherubic Tea, and Spirit Tea before them (both of them I thought were sub 2-stars). BenGong's tea is top tier, and their staff is fast and friendly (and as other reviews mentioned, the staff speaks fluent Chinese). The place is newly renovated and was very clean. They made really good recommendations to us, and the drinks they made were really high quality. We got a mixed fruit tea and their #1 popular drink, Special Tea, and both were really good! I was in the area and saw this new tea place. They were having a sale with BOGO 50% off. The line was long but it moved along. The drinks took some time to make but it was really busy. I asked the cashier what was the difference between the tea cube special milk tea and the tea cube milk tea. He didn't really explain it clearly, so I was confused but I decided to try both anyway. I also got a Pomelo mango sago drink. For the tea cube milk tea, I chose green with 20% sweet and it was good! It's a solid green milk tea. The special milk tea didn't taste like anything special. It tasted like a black milk tea. The tea cubes were like tiny firm grass jellies but not really special either. The pomelo drink was good and reminded me of the one at yi fang but less creamy. If I am ever nearby and craving tea, I would come back for the green milk tea. The tea is legit. read more

Newly opened. Beautiful, clean and minimal interior decoration with pink and white pastels adorned with vibrant paintings on the walls. We found a coupon in our mailbox for 20% off total purchase so we stopped in after lunch. We arrived around 12:30ish and there were some patrons inside. They have plenty of menus to view while you wait - popular drinks, milk tea, fruit tea, cheese tea, Yakult tea, signature teas, and seasonal limited edition drinks. We ordered the black boba milk tea and strawberry cheese slush. There was a lot of staff behind the bar, but do expect a bit of a wait time for the drinks to come out. I think it took roughly ~20 minutes. The strawberry slush is finely blended and the cheese foam is extra thick! Very good but you gonna need a straw. If you try to sip from the cup, you're just gonna get cheese foam. After mixing it up, it tasted like a creamy strawberry milkshake. The boba black milk tea is pretty good. Regular sweet was just perfectly balanced and the boba is soft and warm. They don't put a lot of boba so you might find yourself with a lot of tea and no boba lol. Overall, pretty tea shop and a nice addition to the marketplace. I will have to come back to try their fruit teas. read more

If I can only get one milk tea in Irvine, it's the Burnt Caramel Cheese Milk Tea at Bengong's. The caramel and cheese foam combo is surprisingly well balanced and adding mochi makes it even better. I usually get 25% sugar with less ice. Their Passionfruit Super Fruit Cup is also great with fresh strawberries, watermelon, orange, lemon and real passionfruit over a jasmine tea base that tastes very refreshing. I also tried the Golden Chestnut Mochi Milk Tea, which fully satisfied my winter chestnut cravings, and the Strawberry Mochi Frost, a smooth and not too sweet strawberry drink with chewy mochi. Overall, consistently solid drinks and one of my go-to spots in Irvine. read more

I went there for the 1st time after hearing great reviews. It was after lunch and the store was not busy at all. Ordered one of the drinks from the popular drinks and it was great. I think part of the reason is because there was no line and the service was quick. Personally I think most of the tea shops in Irvine are pretty good. I get annoyed when there is a long line (come on, is it really worth the 20-30 minutes wait? It is just a drink at the end). I will go back to try more drinks. 2nd run of this place today at 4:30pm, no line. Quick service and tasty drink. Tried black sesame milk tea. Thumbs up! Might be even better than YiFang. read more

I got the mango sago pomelo drink and it was so refreshing and delicious! Also got the lychee crème milk tea which was a nice strong flavor of lychee with a hint of coconut shreds for a nice bite. It's nice to try new places and this one definitely didn't disappoint. read more

Barista ignored our attempts at ordering despite standing less than a foot in front of her. Seemed to be on the phone in her earpod--and not using kind words. Once having her attention and my daughter asked for lactose/dairy free options, she almost led us to get dairy saying it didn't have any. Thank god for the other barista. It would have been dangerous to follow her knowledge of her own workplace. The stress and displacement is not worth getting drinks here again. Tasty! Thank god this place took over Cherubic tea, the place does feel like they focused on quality Chinese teas than those sugary for profit boba spots. I went in for the bogo 50 deal and got the mango pomelo sago and osmanthus rice milk tea, pretty impressed with the milk tea I can really taste this unique tea flavor 5/5. I did asked for 75% sweet and it was a little under sweet but the staff was very nice and gave me extra syrup to sweeten it. Oh it also has some small agar boba came with the drink. $5.75 for a small (not bad) I will make sure to order regular sweet next time. The mango pomelo sago I can't really taste the pomelo but more like a creamy mango sago drink, also has agar boba. This one cannot adjust the sweetness level but it's not too sweet 4/5. $6.75 one size only. I think prices are fair for the quality teas they have here. Came back again the next day and tried the passion fruit super fruit tea $6.95, the tea has some fruit cubes but nothing special about it, for the price I would expect more 3/5 stars Peach oolong milk tea was good, has these barley popping boba beads and some agar boba. The tea has a good peach flavor without being overly sweet, wish I didn't take the cream top that comes with it 5/5. One down side I did not think it was worth $6.95 so prolly won't get it again. Presotea has the same peach milk tea for cheaper. Third times visiting the shop today: Tea cube special milk tea 4/5 one size $6.90, tea tasted strong with some tea jelly I believe pretty good. Osmanthus rice milk tea is still my favorite so far because no other tea places has this flavor, got regular sweet and it was solid 5/5. Service is very nice and attentive, if you are not happy with your drinks just bring it to their attention, they'll be more than happy to fix it. read more

Been frustrated with the quality control of their drinks. 80% of the time the drinks come out with poor quality where either the boba is overcooked or water downed or dry pomelo. Furthermore, way too often the drink takes almost 30 mins to get even if there isn't a line. WORST customer service experience ever. Tried to order a Buy 1 Get 1 free Pina Colada to get a free drink Sunday afternoon on 7/27 cuz they were doing a campaign. They gave me just one drink so I asked them where the free drink is. First a young staff member completely ignores me, and when I politely asked again another member says 'You should've done it on the Kiosk' with an attitude as if I did something wrong. There was no instruction on Kiosk, it even said BOGO on the screen so I assumed that I get it if I just ordered it. No apologies about not being clear, just rude and disrespectful customer service. Have been here before and have never had a bad encounter until today. I walked in with a friend and there was no line, we took our time to look into the menu which would have been a great opportunity to ask us if we needed any help with anything since the menu only has the title of the drink in English and the rest is in a different language. I made an honest mistake in ordering the wrong drink, which is very similar in name to the wrong order, and knew it as soon as I looked at the drink that was waiting on the counter. I did not take a sip since I knew it was incorrect. I apologized and asked if I could get the right drink made, the barista then looked at me puzzled and said "I'd have to make re-make it?" We looked at each other awkwardly and I proceeded to apologize for my mistake and then she tells me she needs to speak to her manager, comes out from behind the curtain after 2 minutes and goes to make my drink. What makes it awkward is that a twelve year old comes out from behind curtains and stares me down as if they were so busy that they couldn't provide any customer service. Irvine is definitely the land of milk (tea) and honey (boba). One cafe closes, another one opens! Bengong's was founded about a decade ago and has since grown to over 700 locations globally. There are a few in San Diego and the San Gabriel Valley area, but I'm rarely in those areas. I saw they took over the space Cherubic Tea previously occupied and had to stop by to try. You will find them at The Market Place, between Supercuts and Aspire Dental. Parking is usually not an issue. Inside there's a faux tree with written wishes hanging on the branches and new artwork hanging on the walls. Most of the interior is the same, marble/pink colored walls with white countertops, wooden floor panels, felt chairs, and gold colored tables. My first visit during the soft opening was okay. Their signature Mango Pomelo Sago was more coconut than anything and the bits of fruit were sour. Sago pearls were decent at least. The second visit was more enjoyable, I liked the balance of sweet and earthy flavors in the Uji Matcha Milk Tea. The boba was so fresh, you could warm up your hands by holding the bottom of the cup. The texture was soft but still had some chewiness to it. Peach Oolong Milk Tea was refreshing and creamy. Definitely an upgrade compared to Cherubic Tea! read more

I've been to this boba shop a few times now, since it's so close to our house, but unfortunately, the last couple of visits have left me really disappointed. On my most recent trip, I noticed that I was charged more than the price listed on the menu. I usually don't look at my receipt, but this time we had a buy one get one half off promo so I just glanced at it and realized the math was off. When I brought it to the staff's attention, they called the manager over. She came out and adjust the electronic menu -- but even after the change, the price still didn't match what I was charged. She explained that the owner had increased the prices without informing her or updating the menu, and told me there was nothing she could do to honor the posted price. That's not only unprofessional, but misleading to customers. On top of that, my friend ordered a drink and asked to swap out a topping (something we've done in the past without issue), but this time she was charged extra for it -- another change we weren't told about in advance. The quality of the boba itself has also declined. The texture has been inconsistent. The past couple of times, the pearls were hard in the center. The first time, I just thought it was a fluke, but it happened again. I feel like they're reheating day old boba instead of making fresh batches daily. This place used to be a regular stop for us, but with the inconsistent pricing, poor communication, and declining quality, we're unlikely to keep coming back, especially with so many boba shops around town. read more
