They over book reservations on weekends and are understaffed. I booked an early Sunday dinner hoping to avoid any delays and we ended up being there for over three hours. We had two tables with the chefs that cook for you. One was great but unfortunately the one who cooked for the kids table was probably just exhausted and just quickly cooked and took off. Thankfully the guy who cooked for the adults spent some more time for us and tried to entertain the kids a bit too. I don't think it's an issue wi to the staff - but I do think that management needs to apt more attention to not overbook and over extend what they are capable of. Large party, we were split into two tables for Hibachi. Waitress immediately took our drink order then came back for our food order. After that we waited over an hour to have them begin to cook the food. Mind you, on one table only. 30 mins after a second chef came to cook for our table. My family, on the other table, already had finished eating when we were being served our food. The food and chefs were great. They weren't refilling drinks unless we called, also they forgot two of our orders. Waitress tried her best, informed they were backed up. However, the service was not well organized. The wait time was excessive comparing when you head to any other restaurant when food is served. It seems like they are understaffed. The entire room had large parties and you were able to notice everyone was waiting for the chef to cook for their table. It doesn't make sense to book tables when you don't have enough waiters and chefs. Should inform there is a two hour wait to be serviced appropriately and on time. For the amount we spent, not worth our $$$. We will no longer return to this restaurant or location. read more

The food was very good. The chef was good - not great. Definitely skilled but we have enjoyed better entertainment and humor in the past. When one leaves a restaurant the dominant thought is critical. Unfortunately, our two dominant thoughts were negative. When our orders were being taken, we each were asked if we wanted steamed rice or the upgraded chicken fried rice. I think each of us upgraded. We were surprised to see the charge of $7.50 per each bowl that was upgraded from steamed rice to chicken fried rice. Suggestion #1 - be transparent upfront about the upgrade price from steamed rice to chicken fried rice. Yesterday walking around the veranda my parter Grace and I walked past Benihana and smelled the food, she we both said how good the food smelled lol. We were deciding what we wanted for our cheat meal (on the weekends) we eat other stuff because we try to eat healthier during the week. She wanted to eat here so we walked in. The lady in the front asked us if we had a reservation, which we did not I didn't know we had to have one. I guess it's for the inside area where they cook in front of you. They ask to see your covid shot record (I didn't know it was mandatory now) we got tested. If you have a negative test result within the last 3 days it's okay or your covid test. They have a security guard that checks the test results. I've seen a couple of security guards even at Dave and busters, at first I was like why does a restaurant need security - but I figured maybe some people got upset about this and their there to help with that? We had to wait because if you don't have a reservation they seat you on the other side which is fine I didn't mind. While waiting a lady was standing outside and her kids were crawling all over the statues - (smh) she just stood there looking at her phone while they crawled all over it - like your kid could fall and get hurt or break them and then they would blame the restaurant. The security came out and told them to get off (now I see why they had him) the lady walked away hella fast after- We were seated and our waitress was nice she was very attentive and checked on her tables. I got the hibachi tuna steak and my partner got the a specials but it came with steak and shrimp. They came with soup and salad. Both were very good. She got the strawberry lemonade I liked it and I tried the passion fruit green tea. I really liked it too. The lady asked if we wanted refills which I would of had her refill mine but I was so full- they give A LOT food which is good. I should of asked if they had to go cups to take one when we left. Communication and timing are definitely the downfalls of this establishment. After waiting almost 30 minutes to be seated and then 30 more minutes for water, I knew I'd be in for a long ass night. The reservation was at 8:15, Montague wasn't even told our table was his for 45 minutes. Then came the wait of waiting for a chef. Cooking didn't start until 9:45pm by Chef Jazz. Chef Jazz was nice enough and seasoned our food, although I felt he was a little heavy-handed with the salt. But when all you have is salt and pepper to season the food, that's what's going to happen. Food was decent enough for me to eat the next day, with plenty of water. Drinks are sugary as hell. Bathrooms are filthy. Our departing gift was getting the toilet paper in the entry way stuck on our feet on the way out at 11:15pm. The second star was for Chef Jazz and Montague actually being decent and apologetic for the extended stay. I definitely won't be back. read more

We were seated immediately but the service time, kitchen and bar times were HORRIBLE! 2 noticeable managers on the floor, the Male Mgr served me COLD GARLIC BUTTER and he gave me a To-go bowl of rice that should've been served in a ceramic bowl. We had to ask for plates, forks, water, soy sauce, butter ect... refills on drinks and overall checking back on our meal did not exist. Our server was VERY APOLOGETIC, He had 8 tables and it was obvious he wasn't set up for success. My drink took over 30mins to get to my table.. I BLAME MGMT for NOT over seeing what was so obvious. I HOPE UPPER MGMT sees this review and make the necessary corrections. Pricey and lacking good customer service, this will keep anyone from never returning to this establishment. The Food deserves 3! The Scallops were small and dry. The lobster was also a bit dry. Good flavors on soup, rice, veggies and shrimp. The salad is never be a bad thing. It doesn't matter if you book a reservation since they still make you wait for almost 2 hours (amidst checking in 30 mins before schedule), then more wait between drinks, food order, grill and eat. 3.5 hours and $250 waisted at this restaurant for mediocre to bland food. Had a terrible experience on Father's Day. The so called manager kept on making mistakes. She told us that we could only use our gift card for $10.00. What the hell. This is terrible customer service. Is it because I'm old?? Maybe because I come here often and they feel they can rip me off. I definitely don't recommend this location! I accidentally tipped the waitress $100. I thought we were paying for our dinner she just handed the portable paying machine doesn't say a word and I put $100 thinking it was my husband's and I dinner and added a tip. The entire time the machine was only used for tips. I told the manager it was a mistake and they said they were going to refund me and they never did!! On top of that they messed up on our food and kept us waiting for an hour and a half ! They didn't even offer us a discount for having us wait they just offered free ice cream!!!! Like really?! Unfortunately like most other recent reviews this one is also not a very happy tale. Have been frequenting this benihana location since childhood. I'm talking back when the bar area was round and wooden and dark. Had reservations at 415 for dinner for my birthday with my grandma. Got there a few minutes early and the place was fairly busy. The bar had a huge group sitting it at waiting for their table who were extremely loud. The host tells you you'll get a text when your table is ready which would be fine if there was any reception in the building. I had to finally connect to the wifi to realize I already received my text. Unfortunately while waiting there are only 3 benches to sit at (2 outside and 1 inside) and all were full. I had no where to sit my elderly gram and no one offered to move, finally convinced her to sit at the high top chair at the bar which is very inconvenient. Finally get sat at our table. No menus and you're not told that, they just assumed we all knew. It's all on your phone. The other party seated with us (4 older folks) had a very hard time with this and after 20 minutes or so we're finally grudgingly given real menus by staff member who was not our waiter. Josh our waiter was fine at first but then after getting soup salad and drinks disappeared for some time and only came back to do refills once. Our cook, oh boy, this poor guy. Could not tell if he was new or just very nervous. 2 tricks only, smiley face out of egg and the onion train. Very disappointing show. This chef could also apparently only cook steak at one temp......well done. I asked for my steak rare and he kept asking me if I wanted medium, no I want it rare. When ordering one of the most expensive items, filet mignon and lobster, you should be able to get it cooked to your liking. Unfortunately steak was very overcooked and our table was short a whole steak for one of the other parties. Chef tried to fix this by going back to the kitchen and getting 2 more steaks to cook as I let him know mine was extremely overcooked and I asked for rare. Second steak was medium so better than well done but still not what I asked for. If not for the birthday coupon covering some of the cost, which I also had to ask to be added to our bill as it wasn't, i would have asked for the manager to assist with some type of help. 2 people including my gram ordered steam rice which never came, I tried to get 2 random waiters attentions who looked me in the eye and still ignored me since I couldn't locate our waiter Josh. Finally I see him leaving another table at this point we've all had our fried rice for a while. I ask him about the steamed rice and he says he'll bring it. 15 minutes later it comes when all food is pretty much done and plated. This was a very disappointing experience that lasted over 2 hours. Not worth the cost. And the tables were not all being utilized so can not even blame it on being overly busy with not enough staff. Hopefully this location will figure out their issues and become great again. Until then I will go to other tepanyaki restaurants such as kimonos in benicia or Kobe japan in pleasant hill. read more

Before arriving I was feeling apprehensive due to some negative reviews I had read regarding reservations and them seating you late, etc. but I'm very happy to say I planned ahead and made a reservation at 3pm on Valentine's Day. I figured it was a great time since it was after lunch and before dinner hours. We were seated fairly quickly when we got there, not to mention we actually arrived 30 minutes past our reservation time due to traffic and they were super accommodating at Benihana! After we were seated, I was hoping our chef would be enthusiastic and entertaining which he definitely was!!! The 5 course meal was super delicious. We started off with an onion soup, followed by a salad and then had the chef come to prepare our main courses. He made a heart shape out of our chicken fried rice (which I recommend ordering over steamed rice). We got ours spicy! We also experienced a smiley face out of the egg and volcano onion ring. For the main course I ordered spicy tofu which was extremely flavorful! At the end of the meal we got vanilla ice cream. This was my first time coming to a Benihana. I'm sad to hear other people may not have had a great experience at this location, but for me it was a great first time! I'll definitely be coming back to try more of their dishes. read more

Server disappeared 20 minutes at a time- then blamed the dishwasher- service major decline- chef was ok on show (sloppy-food went everywhere) but cooked good food; one person finally got her steamed rice when he was serving dessert ice cream- service is absolutely terrible. It has gotten worse and worse. I'm simply not going to go back. In the past, if you went to Benihana, you got service. You were actually waited on there was a server for each table not a server for three tables. It wasn't just me everybody was complaining.
