I come to Benihana, Coral gables every year for my birthday ever since they opened here. Today I had one of the best experiences. The food was on point, drinks were delicious and the service was fast. We had Odalis as our server and Paul as our manager. Complete trash. This location used to be so good and now it's garbage. The place has hired all these young kids that have no manners and truly don't want to work. I honestly don't know what happened. The food is good but very over priced, it's best to come during lunch for you get the exact same thing for a fraction of the price. The only thing that is actually good here are the drinks and the soup other than that I would not recommend this location. The gables has truly gone down. Had a very unpleasant visit to the restaurant. It seems that they are not equipped to be able to handle a weekend rush. It seems to me that this location is not managed appropriately. Late, careless, complete lack of courtesy. I walked into Benihana with the expectation of a magical experience for my dear friend's birthday. Unfortunately, my experience was far from magical. Having made a reservation for 8:45, any rational human being would expect to be seated by 9:00 at the latest. We were seated at 10:00. Frustrated is an understatement. I am filled with rage and disgust. The managers were of no help and the hostess was rude. Let me go into more detail, as the managers especially frustrated me this evening. If you go to this location and have the pleasure of speaking to Xavier and Booker (the managers), you will be met with a one word answer and a swift goodbye. They lack character and most definitely do not care about the customers' experiences. I pity them, as I never thought I would meet people so terrible at their jobs. I am angry. I am hungry. But, most of all, I nearly pass out at the thought of having to deal with this level of incompetence ever again. It is safe to say that I will never (and yes, I mean never) step foot in another Benihana again. Do yourself a favor, don't come to this sorry excuse for a restaurant. read more

We have been dining at the Benihana in Coral Gables for years! I'm not sure who loves it more... My husband or the kids, but it's always a hit. The food is a great value, the service is always good and the "show" keeps the kids entertained no matter how many times they've already been here. The ambiance is casual so great for a weeknight or an easy weekend meal. Make a reservation to ensure there is no wait or have a drink at the bar! We come so often we even have 2 favorite chefs! To be honest the hype for Benihana I will never understand. My fiancé is the only person that is obsessed with this place and it's getting annoying lol. Even her sister was at first obsessed and now is tired and seeing that this place is not worth it. For the price of the food it is pretty expensive for the quality they have. It's the same meat that I can get at a steak house for cheaper and will taste much better over there (same goes for everything else on the menu). The staff themselves are very friendly and respectful which is how a restaurant should be but to be honest for my taste and possibly for others, it's not worth the hype. read more

We had a fantastic evening at Benihana celebrating with family. Host Judi is an absolute hospitality pro--we came with a group of 18 and she made adjoining tables happen for us, no problem. We felt welcomed by Judi and her team--our celebration started off on the right foot. Our busser Gabriel was cheerful and speedy with the drinks, adding to our celebratory mood. Every request was greeted with cheer and enthusiasm. Our chef introduced himself only as "Jackie Chan," and he certainly lived up to his nickname with his excellent showmanship. I made reservations for 10:30 to have time to eat dinner and go see Firework at 12 midnight instead we got stuck waiting for the bill at Midnight . We didn't start dinner til 25 minutes after our reservations our waitress would disappear no refill for water or soda the Filet minion was over done it was terrible service management sucks !! The food is always delicious! We ordered the Hubachi Supreme and it was all so tasty! We had ordered a Blue punch bowl and it was very good! Customer service was excellent today! They handled a bad customer like professionals and comped the rest of the table's drinks because of his out-of -line behaviour! The ambiance at this particular location is louder than at any other I've been to, but it is due to the small dining room size. They make it work though! The chefs put on a decent show as always. I think Benihana's golden days are over. Although it was surprisingly busy despite being a Tuesday, the experience felt stale. The place needs a refresh desperately. It smelled like an old Denny's, with chipped floor tiles and uncomfortable booths. The bar area is sort of sad. The onion soup was devoid of onions, although it was pleasant. The salad was alright. My boyfriend never got his shrimp as promised. Our entrees were generously portioned and tasted good. We never received the green tea as promised. Tonight was supposed to be a fun and entertaining night but ended up being an utter disappointment. My family and I have dined at Benihana and Samurai countless times and have always had a great experience. It's been a tradition in our family to go to Benihana to celebrate birthdays (usually 3-4 times per year) and figured tonight would be no different as we were celebrating our daughter's 20th birthday. The evening started off well but began a slow and painful decent in to subpar service. Once seated, our server gave the usual speech about the menu and took our drink order. He eventually returned with drinks and then proceeded to take our dinner order. That's when things started to go sideways. It took another 15-20min to then get the soup, but then the salads showed up 5min later. Okay I get it, it's a Saturday night and the restaurant is busy. Here is were things start to slide a bit more. Mind you, we have already been sitting for about 1-1/2hr and the chef has yet to show up. Our server did manage to maintain the glasses full and remove the the soup and salad bowls as the chef was arriving at our table. It took another 15min for the chef to show up. He reviewed the order with each one of us but only what we ordered not what temperature to cook each steak. Then after starting to cook the vegetables, he decides to go to the computer to what I can only assume is to check the order. Because of his short interlude at the computer, he forgets the shrimp appetizer and now the vegetables are starting to overcook. Next he does his presentation: the I LOVE U, the beating heart, the choo choo train and the onion volcano. My wife then asks about the shrimp appetizer because he's starting to cook the steaks. He pulls out a tray of shrimp, shows it to her and continues to cook the steaks. So he simply combined the shrimp appetizer with the other meals that had shrimp and distributes it to everyone, including the other party at the same table (I know this sounds petty but it's supposed to be part of the dining experience that someone goes to this restaurant for). For the record, I ordered a Samurai Treat (Fillet & Shrimp) to be cooked Medium which was clearly stated on the order. What I ended up with was a WELL DONE steak with very little flavor. The rest of the table ended up with overcooked rice, shrimp that was overcooked with little flavor (my daughter had to ask the chef to add some of the Garlic Butter to her shrimp because of how dry it was) along with vegetables that were overcooked. By now we've been seated for almost 2hrs. The chef asks how everything is but I can't complain because the meal has taken so long. The chef proceeds to clean the grill and then excuses himself as we are still eating. Thinking things could not get any worse, our waiter shows up about 5min later and asks how many To-Go boxes we will need. I look at him with as calm a demeanor that I can muster and reply that my family is still eating and we still need a few minutes. Another 10min goes by, we are done eating and I request some To-Go boxes. He brings them promptly with the bill for the meal. My wife asks for some tea and dessert which ended up being lukewarm tea and some ice cream (again, this is part of the meal not something you need to request). Remember how I started the review - We are here to celebrate our daughter's 20th birthday. The waiter leans over to hand me the CLOVER so I can pay the bill. I politely remind him that we came here to celebrate our daughter's birthday and he replied "Do you still want us to sing her Happy Birthday?" That's when I asked to speak to the Manager. In review the food and service were subpar at any price. We will not be going back to this Benihana! read more

I've returned twice since my original review and I have to say the service and quality of food has DRAMATICALLY decreased. The attention (or better said lack thereof) from management and staff is horrendous. I've experienced a handful of rude encounters from servers to management. The current manager in particular lacks respect and customer service skills. I rarely leave a one-star review, but my experiences here has been so poor that this location is deserving of a one-star review. The location is dirty and unkept. How is a place like this not focused on maintaining a clean, spotless restaurant? Not to mention, we made a reservation for 2:00pm, weren't seated till 3:30pm, and waited for the chef to come at 4:25pm....The food is extremely average. There are so many incredible spots just feet away from this location; you're better off going elsewhere. I will not be returning here. read more
