Not a good experience! Called five times to make a reservation nobody ever answered the phone! When we got there people were lined up out the door but there were many empty tables on the inside! Been here a few times. Told it would be a 30 min wait and turned into well over an hour despite most of the lounge filled with open tables. But there were plenty of staff behind the hostess desk fooling around while the lobby was packed with people waiting. Maybe hire another waiter and let one of the 4 hostesses leave? Food was just ok. I tried several times to try and give them a chance but between the inexperience chefs that they choose to keep on staff to the unprofessional waitresses and management staff. We went to Benihana's for the first time for Mother's Day. Thank goodness we had a reservation since it would have been a three hour wait. NO restaurant is worth waiting three hours to eat! I enjoyed the experience and the food. Brought most of my dinner home which I was looking forward to eating my leftovers the next day. However, a video on Facebook on the night we ate there showed a roach in someones salad.... still alive and and swimming in the dressing. Needless to say, the leftovers were put in the garbage can. The Hostess and host were pleasant but professionalism lacked. the wait time was greater than an hour to be expected on a Friday night. The hostess called my name and another parties name then had me wait again because the other party could not be found this happened 3 times adding another 20- 30 minutes to wait time. Hostess Knowing my name yelled it out while standing directly next to me all three times. When we did get to or table waitress was very friendly and courteous, explaining the ins and outs of restaurant and taking our drink and appetizer order. All other parties at our table had their appetizers served in a timely manner. After 45 min of no appetizer, I inquired about mine. Waitress appeared shocked I did not receive it, and went to inquire about the wait. She came back to me stating, "They had to bake your roll, that is what is taking so long" I was taken back considering I ordered a sushi roll wondering why they were baking it, I told her just to cancel the order, however another server at the same time brought out my lovely cold sushi roll (Not a baked one). Waitress said, "I m not sure what is going on I am going to get you a manager you should not of had to wait so long." The manager arrived at my table and asked if everything was okay I told her the waitress got her because of the 45 minute wait for sushi roll. She then told me rudely in front of all guest at table quite, "You did not wait 45 minutes for that." I politely told her ( because I had a 6 year old with me) That it was actually longer it was 45 minutes when I asked were it was. she rudely walked from the table stating "I will have to look at the ticket." I was appalled by her attitude and asked to see another manager not for the lateness of our food but the extreme unprofessional manner the manager spoke to me. The other Parties at the table were too upset by her attitude, telling the waitress how rude she was. This brings us now to our wait time at this table we sat there for over 2 hours before the cook came out all parties where becoming agitated at the wait, We were told by waitress that this is normal wait time that it sometimes can be up to 4 hours however assured us our cook would be out momentarily. When cook did come out; he was pleasant and entertaining for the child I brought there, I was grateful for him decreasing her anxiety levels over the very long wait time. Dinner was cooked quickly and it was fairly good. Please note you are paying for the entertainment the food is not worth the $$$$. In the mean time no other manager came to speak to me, but the rude one did come back to the table, and with out a beat threw her waitress under the bus saying it was all her fault ( the waitresses) she did not put the order in timely. I again was taking back by her unprofessional attitude. being an operator of a small company I would never tell a client that it was my in-subordinate's fault for their issue or complaints. (that waitress works for tips she could of hurt her pocket) I simply told her she needed further managerial training and to improve her customer relation skills and the way she spoke to people. Needless to say I will not be returning to this restaurant nor would I recommend it. 1. Over priced food, 2. 18% gratuity put on bill for any size party, we had a party 4, 3 adults one child (which I feel is unfair to the good servers, when it is customary to tip 20-25%.) 3. OK my fellow yelpers, Benihana's is like one of my favorite restaurants! It is the bomb! The chicken fried rice with garlic butter is glorious! My taste buds dance with joy!...... Now here is the key to ordering only one order of chicken fried rice, add 2oz of xtra chicken, 1 xtra egg! You literally have 2 orders of rice there...... The only downside I have in my experience of going there is one of the managers could use some more customer service training, dude is waayy behind in that area, I just act as if he doesn't exist & keep it moving. I walked in with 6pm reservation for 6. We then waited almost 25 minutes in an empty restaurant. The odor of the restaurant smells of a wet carpet. We were sat at a table that seats 8 with a total of 10 guests. Very overcrowded and the hostess replied "that's a table of ten, do you want to wait for another table"? Server showed up about 10 minutes later lacking any smiles or hospitality. She then took our drink order and returned15 minutes later. Most drinks were just water. We then asked to order right away and she seemed annoyed. The entire group ordered and the sever showed up with salads and soups almost 25 minutes later. Also I want to remark that the servers uniform was very dusty and dirty. The restaurant just opened an hour ago. The chef came and did his presentation and he did a fine job. Server was late in the refill of our waters and attentiveness. The heavy set manager has seen me their numerous times but lacks customer skills in welcoming back his guests. Checks came to table almost 15 minutes after everyone was done. Waitress reminded the table that the tip was not included. This sounded very condescending. What do you tip for horrible service and server intimidation? We tipped 18 percent but felt we should've tipped 8 percent. Do I recommend this eatery? March 16,2019: I have been coming here for years and this was unfortunately the WORSTexperience EVER! We made reservations a week in ADVANCE for a party of 9 to celebrate a birthday. As we arrived, I walked to the counter where there were three young ladies standing , one including the manager, Rachel. Rachel, RUDELY expressed that the entire party needs to be here in order to be seated. I then expressed that WE ARE ALL HERE, and she replied WHERE, I then pointed to where my ENTIRE party was seated (in the first set of doors up front because the second set of seating was full). Rachel replied, impatiently, they need to be here and in the building. I don't understand how we are not "in the building" if they are seated in Benihana waiting area on Benihana property. Dearborn Benihana doesn't even have an outside waiting area.. It appears that Rachel did not acquire management 101 skills, "It's not what you say , but how you say it" when working with CUSTOMERS.. I repeat , PAYING CUSTOMERS that has been coming here for years back when Tom ran the place. After unnecessary attitudes, and now a "hostile" environment created (remember as we are customers we came to GIVE our money and make memories to CELEBRATE ) we were finally seated... Once seated, we were rudely greeted by a VERY IMPATIENT waitress. We asked if we could have a few moments to review the menu and it seemed as though it weren't on her time, we had made some kind of mistake as CUSTOMERS?!? Honestly, this was not suprising as the manager, RACHEL attitude was HORRIFIC .. what can you really expect from the staff? ... Furthermore, we were given a new waitress which she was very kind , and the chef was great as well. Overall , this is a very unfortunate experience we had. Myself as I work, as a Regional Manager, in the automotive business- here are a few takeaways: 1) RACHEL, it all starts with you. You have to be a better leader to her team. If you're expectations is happy customers and increased revenue ($) you have to create an excited and "can do" environment for your team. This use to be my favorite spot to go. I have been to the Dearborn location twice in the past 30 days and both occasions or horrible. Yesterday the chef didn't even know how to fix and medium rare steak & the vegetables were burnt where you could even taste the bitter char on them. The young man was constantly wiping the sweat off his face onto his shirt while he was cooking. The Benihana rice did not fill the bowl the way it used to. The food was greasy from using regular butter instead of the garlic butter and when asked to use the garlic butter the chef said that they only use plain butter on everything except for the Benihana rice & that you have to pay for the garlic butter from the server. I spoke with the manager KEN and he was useless. When it came to the rice bowls his response was well maybe they're not completely full but they are close to being full. When asked about cooking the food with the garlic butter he replied that corporate does not want it cooked with garlic butter any more only the Benihana rice can be cooked with garlic butter and that the food is no longer cooked to order it's cooked by a specific recipe. Then when it came to the steak he said that any steak is brown while on the grill I tore a piece open for him to show him that it was done all the way through not pink or red then he said it must have finished cooking on the plate ...what idiot would say that on a glass plate not a metal plate that's not heated could possibly finish cooking your food. read more

Horrible customer service. We made a reservation 2 weeks in advance for my sister's 18th birthday for 12 people. We were told it was okay. Earlier in the day, we called to ask if it was okay to add an additional person and were told once again that it was okay. When we arrived our reservation was only for 10 and we were told that was the maximum number of people. 3 of our party had to sit far away from us and wait even longer to be seated. I was asked out on a date and this was where we decided to go. I have to say that the experience was over rated totally! The food was OK. I guess it would have been better if it was something that I could not have possibly made in my own kitchen. Lets face it; rice and meat is easy to throw together. But nevertheless I enjoyed the date. I do have to say that it was over crowed and the fact of eating with other people at a big table did not sit quite well with me. It left no room for privacy with your date. Also the bill was astronomical for the experience overall. A whopping $147 was just too much for a party of two. We only ordered 2 meals and 4 drinks. Restaurant sent me a birthday certificate, however I can't use it. Certificate can only be used Monday thru Thursday after 3:00 pm. I happen to have to be at work at 3:00 pm Monday thru Friday. This went from great on visits before to ugh. The north/smaller room is beautiful and clean. The rest is disgusting. Dirty walls, dirty hoods with hair stuck to them. We got a chef that could not do any tricks, used a verry dirty towel to wipe things and bragged he "only trained for two weeks" and was cooking since he was 6. We received no towels. The dressing on the salads, which the vegetables were dried out like they'd been sitting for hours, was clumpy grated onion and not the quality I have loved for over 10 years. The nice couple at the table ordered 6 servings of special rice which took over 40 mins to prepare. We sat with empty plates He burnt the onions, garlic butter, the mushrooms, the zuccini, the eggs were dark brown and bitter, the shrimp AND chicken were like rocks from being overcooked. All these burnt, sour smelling leftovers on the grill were gross as the gross dirty rag he used. As soon as he cooked the beef, 1 hour and 20 mins after sitting there, no show, the waitress tried to shoo us out. The "birthday song" was quick and the 2 staff didn't even look at me. The ice cream was melted. This was like a Japanese Waffle House, only Waffle House employees care about you more. Things like 6 servings of special rice should be dining table service, not grill. Don't go in with high expectations! I heard such amazing things about the great Benihana. And the experience I had was such a disappointment! I can't speak for the hibachi table experience but if you ask for a private table expect to be treated like second class. It seemed to me that the guests who sat at the hibachi grill were top priority. We were told upon arrival that our wait would be twenty minutes or less. After forty minutes of waiting we finally were escorted to our table and told that our waitress would be there shortly. We sat at the table for roughly twenty-seven minutes until a waitress that wasn't our designated waitress came over to ask if we had been assisted and took our drink order. For the rest of the night she was the one who served us. We never met our actual server. The food didn't take terribly long to come out but the appetizer that my boyfriend ordered never got to our table. And once it did it was after we had already finished our meal and with no apology! What makes it worse is that this was the place I chose to "spend a special night" with my significant other for my birthday celebration. If you do want to go here I suggest going with a party of more than two and sitting at the hibachi table. read more

I know with COVID-19, nothing is normal right now, but if a restaurant is allowing for carryout, there need to be systems put in place to keep people safe and get the food out. We ordered online at 2:00PM for 5:45PM pick-up at the curb. Arrived at 5:50, called for the pick-up outside, was put on hold for 10 minutes, and then was told they were backed up and it would be awhile. Called again at 6:30, told 15 more minutes and then didn't get our food until 7:30. (And it ended up being cold and wasn't made well! There were egg shell pieces in the rice!) Meanwhile, while waiting outside, I saw other people going inside to try and figure out what was going on, but they were being held in the waiting room and were standing close together. Again, I know its rough right now but please get some systems in place or reduce the amount of orders you can process to keep people safe and take care of your employees! read more

If I could give this place Zero stars I would, only this location by the way. The rudest set of staff members ever assembled, they do not greet you at times. I really gave this place at least 5 chances but I am done. I am not sure they allow this type of service. Food is not bad but other locations do make their sushi rolls a bit better. My biggest problem is the everything I try to get carry out no matter the size of the order it's always 1 to 1 hour and a half wait period, then dining in at the sushi bar, I kid you not with about 4-5 tables open is always a wait. If you try to talk to the manager he might as well could tell you just leave never wants to correct the problem. Took the family here last night and we had such a great time. It took quite a bit of time for the chef to begin but once he did my two boys were amazed and had a good time. Horriable experience with the staff and the manager Rachel. The staff does not treat their guest like paying patrons. One of out members in our party was late past the BH 15 min late arrival time policy. We decided to wait anyway, we where celebrating a birthday and had family with us from out of state. Our wait time was over an hour while several parties cane in and were seated. We inquired three different times when would we be seated all three times we were told we were at the top of the list, so we waited. After witnessing other late parties being seated and other guest being quietly escorted to the back I spoke up and asked what was going on. Rachel the manager told my party that she explain to my group that we where on a special priority list and she was sorry that we couldn't understand what she explain to us. Rachel never spoke to me nor my party not once! Then asked me if I knew the difference between a GM and Manager. I have a MBA and all of my party members hold college degrees as well. The treatment that we experienced in this establishment and especially from this manager was truly my far one of the worst treatments I received from any establishment and changed my thoughts about this restaurant. I did a case study in school about this restaurant and thought it would be a nice addition to our holiday festivities but I was so mistaken. I would never visit this location again! read more
