We made reservations for 5:30pm and arrived before 5:30pm to check in. The hostess told us they were "a little behind" and it would "be a few minutes". We were waiting until around 5:50pm and asked the hostess again about our table. At that time we were told that they were at least 30 minutes behind and we would be sat at 6:15pm at the latest. Around 6:10pm we checked again on the timing, and they told us to wait 20 more minutes and that there are still 3 tables ahead of us. I had specifically made reservations because we have our 10 month old with us and wanted to eat on the earlier side to get home for bedtime. Now we've been waiting for almost an hour with still no seat. It's very frustrating since we made a reservation expecting it to be busy. Overall, it lacked the energy and engagement we were expecting. The bigger issue, however, was the food quality. While eating, my niece discovered a small white hair in her meal. We informed the manager, who suggested it may have come from the rice and offered a $20 discount. We continued eating, but less than five minutes later my sister found another hair in her steak. We then had to speak with a different manager, who offered to reduce the cost of that entrée. Despite these issues, our final bill was still over $400. At that price point, I expected much better food quality, service, and overall attention to detail. We had reservations at 8:15pm, they asked us to confirm our reservation ahead of time which I did. We checked in at 8pm and they didn't seat us till 8:35pm. Our hibachi chef didn't make it to our table till 9:44pm. She was amazing and quickly got our food cooked but what was the point of having a reservation if I wasn't even gonna eat till 10pm. As always, the food was great the chefs there are wonderful, but the service was the worst ever it took him 20 minutes to bring us our first glass of water then he never came back an hour after getting there and being seated still nobody was there to start cooking for us? We were there at 11 o'clock and seated at 11 o'clock and it wasn't till probably 1210 before anybody might've even showed up to start cooking for us. The service started off good, drinks and appetizers came out in good time. A set of drink refills were placed down as well. However, once the cook started cooking the servers were no where to be found for more water or soda refills. The food itself, we ordered steak, chicken meals, fried rice and yakisoba noodles. The chicken was unfortunately very dry, the steak was cooked perfect as requested, the yakisoba noodles were not seasoned well and more on the burnt side. I asked if they could melt butter and add a little bit of saracha sauce so I could pour it over the noodles. The cooked said he had to ask for permission as they'd never done that there before. I understand thanks, however. Upon his return o was informed it could be done but they may one put 2 teaspoons or they'd have to charge me extra. The place could sue some deep cleaning. The carpets feel like your shoes stick to them when you walk. The vent hood over the grills definitely does not work well, the whole place was smoky. We left their smelling like all the foods they cooked, our eyes burning, we have been many similar places and have not experienced this. I can say for the 1 appetizer, 2 drinks and the meals. The amount of food we were served was not worthy of the amount we paid. I regret not taking pictures so it doesn't seem like I am just complaining. I am extremely disappointed with the experience my family and I had at the Benihana in Ontario. We came to celebrate my husband's birthday, but unfortunately it turned into one of the worst dining experiences we've ever had. Our reservation was at 9:00 p.m., and although the restaurant closes at 10:00 p.m., we expected to receive the same quality of service as any other guest. Instead, we felt rushed throughout the entire meal. We were told we could not order alcoholic beverages because the bartender had already left for the night. If full service is no longer available that late, reservations should not be accepted for that time. Our server was also very inattentive. They disappeared for most of our meal, making it difficult to ask for anything we needed. At the end of the night, we weren't even offered to-go bags for our leftovers and had to figure things out ourselves. To make matters worse, we weren't offered the ice cream that has always been part of our previous Benihana experiences. It made us feel like the staff was simply trying to get us out the door because it was close to closing time. I ordered the lobster meal, which is certainly not inexpensive, and the level of service we received was completely unacceptable. We have dined at Benihana many times before and have always enjoyed it, which made this experience even more disappointing. My husband's birthday celebration was ruined, and it's upsetting to spend so much money only to receive rushed, inattentive service. Based on this experience, we will not be returning, and I cannot recommend this location to friends or family. Guests are seated around a teppanyaki grill as they watch their food being cooked by highly trained chefs whose performance is somewhat theatrical and amusing. THE FOOD. - Deluxe Treat | Filet mignon and lobster tail are grilled in front of you, along with hibachi shrimp, and assorted vegetables (I still think the onion volcano is fun to watch). They also bring out a cup of onion soup, a side salad, a small bowl of steamed rice (you can ask to have to fried), and green tea. After the meal, a scoop of ice cream comes out for dessert. Overall, I liked everything and ended up taking some of it home. THE DRINKS. - Banana Breeze | Great banana flavor! It was refreshing and comforting. THE PARKING. We had a very disappointing experience at the Benihana in Ontario, CA while celebrating my grandmother's birthday (her birthday was on the Fourth of July). There were 10 of us, and we chose Benihana because we wanted a fun, memorable dinner. Unfortunately, the service completely overshadowed the celebration. From the moment we were seated, we waited about 15 minutes before our server even greeted our table. We ordered a few celebration cocktails, but they didn't arrive for roughly 30 minutes. I could understand a delay if the restaurant had been busy, but there were only about three other tables occupied, and several staff members were on the floor. A few people in our party also ordered appetizers, but they never came out before the meal. One appetizer finally arrived after the chef had already started cooking and was serving our steaks. At that point, it completely defeated the purpose of ordering an appetizer, so we asked for the remaining appetizers to be canceled and removed from the bill after waiting over 30 minutes. To make matters worse, my fiancé ordered the steak and chicken combination, but his chicken never came out. When we asked our server about it, she suggested that maybe he had already received it when everyone else's chicken was served. He absolutely did not. Instead of checking into the mistake, it felt like we were being questioned. Overall, the timing, attention to detail, and customer service were extremely disappointing. It's especially frustrating because we were celebrating our grandmother's birthday and spent a significant amount of money expecting a special experience. Sadly, this location did not deliver. I visited Benihana on June 5 to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday, and unfortunately it turned into one of the most disappointing dining experiences I've had. We arrived with a reservation and asked our waitress about portion sizes because we weren't sure what to order. She strongly recommended that my boyfriend and I share one entrée, assuring us that the portions were very large and that it would be more than enough food for both of us. Trusting her recommendation, we decided to share. When the chef started cooking, he only served food onto one plate throughout most of the show because he had never been informed that the meal was meant to be shared between two people. I eventually had to bring it to the waitress's attention, and only then was it mentioned to the chef. By that point, there wasn't much food left to divide, and we were both still hungry. I asked if we could order additional food, but I was told the kitchen was closed. The staff did offer to make an exception and bring us a steak, which I appreciated, but after waiting 20 to 30 minutes, it never arrived. We finally gave up and canceled the order. We ended up being among the last people to leave the restaurant, still hungry and incredibly disappointed. What should have been a fun birthday celebration became embarrassing and frustrating. Had I known the portions wouldn't be enough or that there would be miscommunication between the waitress and chef, I would have ordered separate entrées from the beginning. I felt embarrassed, humiliated, and honestly heartbroken that my boyfriend's birthday dinner turned out this way. I don't usually leave negative reviews, but this experience fell far below what I expected. I hope Benihana takes customer concerns more seriously and improves communication between staff so no one else has to experience this on a special occasion. Came to this location for lunch on Friday and we were seated shortly after we arrived. I order the hibachi shrimp with fried rice. Their menu is a 5 course meal which includes soup, salad, and the main course. Mushroom soup 3/5: the soup was nice especially on a cold day but I thought it was a little too salty for me. Other than it being too salty, it was pretty good but a very generic soup when you're paying at least $40 for the meal. I liked that there were bits of mushroom though! Salad 3/5: the salad was pretty good and a great palate cleanser after the soup. I did think there was a little too much salad dressing for the salad which kinda overpowered the salad but I still enjoyed it. Chicken fried rice 5/5: my favorite meal of the course! The fried rice was full of flavor probably because of the amount of butter they used LOL. The portion of the fried rice is huge as well. It's probably worth at least 2 servings. Hibachi shrimp 4/5: the shrimp was nicely cooked and seared. Because they cook it on the grill, there's a nice smokiness to the shrimp. I did get a lot of shrimp so they definitely did not skimp out. Along with the shrimp, I also got some veggies on the side like grilled zucchini and onions to go along with the meal. I ended the meal with matcha ice cream for a nice palate cleanser. Overall, I really liked the course I had and the shrimp was nicely cooked but I did get a little tired of just eating shrimp as the main course. Came to Benihana's for my birthday dinner.. a whole party of 9 and although the food tasted great, the experience was maybe a 1/10. We were sat down & Gabe was our server for a quick minute and just took our drinks, he was lively and so friendly so we thought we got lucky... we were mistaken. Gabe was only the breaker for our actual server, Daniel. While Daniel made sure to take our orders correct, he had no energy, an attitude and zero customer service persona. Chef Erika was the BOMB!! These 2 stars were definitely for her. She was lively, kind, and a real good chef we got so lucky. The second she was done cooking and walked away our server came "Ice cream flavor?" or "Yours doesn't come with ice cream." and "Be back with boxes". Mind you, we had no time to enjoy our food or were asked if we were ready for dessert? He and himself was the only one to sing happy birthday with nooooo energy. I think to make the experience less sad I would of preferred if there was no singing as it's what it felt like anyway. I had to eat my birthday ice cream before my actual dinner since it was so rushed to get us out of there, very disappointing. Finally the one that took us over the edge, was he was filling a cup of water and maybe stopped paying attention and the cup was just overflowing onto my sister in laws sleeve because of carelessness. We loved this place. The food was very good. The steak and shrimp was so delicious. Try the rice with hot sauce very delicious if you like chili. The sushi was very good here. The employees were very polite and the chef was very polite and playful. It was very entertaining to see the chef cook for us. The location is clean and moderate noise. EPIC FAIL......Dropped by for the last day of their $25 loyalty coupon and the place was mobbed on Sunday 2/1. Instead of making people wait in the lobby or outside, they began filling up the teppan tables with NO chefs in sight. As the clock ran into 30 minutes, people began to get super anxious and actually leaving. Finally at the 35-minute mark, our chef showed up to start cooking and his show. Our food was O.K., but this total lack of control over the over crowded situation was an epic fail. When you are paying $50 to $100 a person for a meal and tip, you expect near perfection, and this was not even close. Then, to add insult to injury, I was given a bill in the amount of $148 for one person.....I had to go person by person at my table to figure out whom got mine.....Then, after I paid, i had to request my receipt.....which never came!! So disappointed in our dinner experience. We use to love Benihana but unfortunately quality and service has gone way down. First off we ordered appetizers and never received them so we asked waitresses to cancel. The waitress was nice but clearly overwhelmed. Next chef tried to give my husband someone else's food and we had to stop him so that messed up my husband's order because another guest got his order. We've been coming here 3x a year for many years (probably 20). We just came in late Jan 2025. Then we come Again today- late May 2025. First thing we noticed- They've changed the menu, raised price's. They stopped the garlic butter mixture and just use plain butter now (the garlic one was so much better). They use less shrimp for the trio now. The chefs are still great. I don't have complaints about the service per se. Mostly the food and food Quality has gone down and prices gone up.
