Been coming here for about 8 years, so a review is way overdue! Saturday was no different from our many great visits. Our waiter, Alex, was fantastic and made sure we were well taken care of the entire time. The restaurant is big offering a lot of seating area. It is also kept very clean. The food came out excellent. This time we chose to sit at a regular table instead of the grill, which turned out to be a great choice. The sushi was fresh and arrived before our main course. We ordered the spicy tuna roll--freshly made and very good. I also highly recommend trying their lobster roll. My steak was cooked exactly how I requested and paired perfectly with the chicken and flavorful fried rice. We love coming back here and always look forward to bringing family and friends along with us.

Came for a casual dinner with one of my besties because she heard this place was good and it was so close to home. Immediately we were greeted by the friendly host and seated right away. Everyone was so quick and attentive. Cocktail was cute and sassy, just the way we like it! The chef was so fun and entertaining, not cheesy like some of these spots can be. Food was fresh and so good! Well definitely come again and bring the rest of the crew! Definitely come early or make reservations if you have a large party. It gets busy.

The food here is amazing! I've been coming since they opened! They have always given fantastic service and a great environment to celebrate or just come eat! Our favorite chef is Hokey! He was off when we went this past time and had Rudy. Who made our dinner very special as we were celebrating my son's 10th birthday and grandpas 88th! Thank you Shima's for always providing quality food and service!

This place was great! I came on a Thursday afternoon for lunch. It was very big and spacious inside, and bit crowded at the time. You have the choice to sit at the sushi bar or by the stove where they cook the food in front of you, hibachi style. The miso soup was flavorful. They had good ginger beer. I tried their lunch combinations and the filet mignon, chicken, scallops, and shrimp were all good. The rice had so much flavor, I loved the garlic butter. Our server was the best! He was very energetic and really put on a show for us. Our food was delicious too! I would highly recommend and definitely return. Thanks for the great service! :)

Knocked off a few stars for their prices. Paid $211 including tip for 3 adult meals; 1 children's meal; and 2 garlic edamame. No sushi and no alcohol. No sodas either. The men's restroom is gross. It's dirty. Needs to be cleaned and/or remodeled. My favorite chefs are Alex and Alberto. In my opinion, best cooks in house. Food is delicious. You do get large portions. It's very filling. Great flavor too. It's a shame that we can no longer request a chef. That's too bad. I will come back here for lunch. It's cheaper and smaller portions.

The chef was a total blast to watch, but they went way too heavy on the salt and butter--everything ended up tasting exactly the same.

How many people can sit at one grill?

I believe it's up to 10 for one grill and one chef.

Can anyone please tell me where Supi went to? Thanks in advance.

Hi honey.. I'm back at Tokyo kitchen in Montclair 😊

Us this all you can eat?

No it isn’t AYCE. Their rolls are big and great quality though. I’m full after only 1-2, which is cheaper than most AYCE places.

    Gluten free friendly?

    Yes it is

There's usually a wait during the dinner rush, but the food is absolutely worth it. Everything is consistently delicious & the quality keeps us coming back. Some of our must order items are the miso sea bass, teriyaki beef (get the sauce on the side) pork cheek & salmon. The sushi is always incredibly fresh and large cuts. One of my favorite little traditions is starting the meal with their sake served in the wooden box. It makes it fun taking shots. If you're looking for fresh sushi, great Japanese dishes & a restaurant that's earned a loyal following for good reason, Ojiya is a must-try!

What stood out to me was the rice to fish ratio. The rice was small and the fish was generously thick, which made every bite super satisfying. I honestly can't remember having sushi quite like that before. The chefs are from Japan, so you can tell the food is authentic. We also ordered the teriyaki bowl. It was okay, but nothing special. The Chirashi bowl, on the other hand, was packed with fish and definitely worth the price. Overall, if you're a sushi lover, I'd highly recommend giving this place a try.

From the moment we walked in, we were warmly welcomed by the staff. They have an efficient system where you receive your food immediately after ordering, which made the experience quick and convenient. Everyone on the team was friendly, and the restaurant was clean and well-maintained. I ordered the Nikutama Udon, and it was delicious. The broth had a rich, savory beef flavor, and they were very generous with the meat portions. I went with the large bowl, and it was definitely satisfying and filling. My wife and I are both very happy we chose to come here for lunch today. It was a great meal and a wonderful experience that left us leaving happy. We'll definitely be back!

Of the locations I've been to, this one is by far the least aesthetically pleasing. The other locations, especially the one on Sawtelle, are beautiful and have a nice theme to them. The interior of this one is very strange, it is just a bunch of tables (which are too close to each other) and a mural on one of the walls. The other locations have more wood features/finishes, softer lighting (compared to the harsher lighting here) , and just overall nicer. But ambiance aside, this location is pretty much the same consistent high-quality that I've experienced at other Marugame Udon locations. I think pretty much everything on the menu sounds good, so whatever looks good to you, you should try. I personally love the curry udon. The tempura is great, and I enjoy the pumpkin one the best; however, the last time I went, they didn't allow you to pick the tempura in the cafeteria style line, which is a big part of the experience! We had to order the tempura at the register. They made it to order, which meant it was fresh, but by the time the tempura comes out, I was pretty much already done with the udon, so I can't enjoy the food together. Not sure if that was a one time thing, but if it is a permanent thing, that takes away from the fun and unique cafeteria style experience and makes this just like any other restaurant. But overall, this location is just good. There are a lot of other good restaurants in the Rolling Ridge plaza, but I would go here if I'm in the mood.

WILL NOT BE RETURNING. poor food quality and service, but on top of that, terrible management.
