I've been here twice now. First visited during lunch time. Recently went back for a Monday night dinner with the hubby. Upon arrival, there appeared to be plenty of seats, but we were told 10 minute wait. I'm pretty sure they try to wait and fill up all the seats at one hibachi grill. It didn't take long for a few more people to show up and we were all seated. Now, I'm not the biggest fan of being seated with strangers while eating. Last time I came with a friend. One of the other patrons at our 'table' wasn't aware of how the seating works, so he asked the server why we were sitting with him and his group. Awkward. He apologized, but still. This time, we chatted with the couple beside us. They were celebrating his birthday, so all of us at the table sang to him. Good times. They told us they usually come on their birthdays because of the $30 off coupon you receive after joining The Chef's Club online. We also received a small handout advertising some of the perks of the club. Our chef "Buddy" was fun and did all the usual tricks and dry jokes. Food: I love fried rice. Was NOT a fan of him mixing in diced grilled chicken. Also, it was somewhat dry and lacking in flavor. Onion soup and salad with house dressing were okay. I really enjoyed my meal - Benihana Excellence: teriyaki beef, scallions, colossal shrimp. The grilled mushrooms, onions, and zucchini were good too. Hubby enjoyed his Land 'N Sea: filet mignon and scallops. Drink: Haiku Colada was sweet and tasty. I thought we'd receive hot green tea with our meal (per the menu), but none of us at the table did. Glad I didn't want any. We had sherbet for dessert. I find it pleasing to the palate after the heavy meal. Seating: I didn't really like how they parked the food cart right beside me. Parking: garage It was a good meal with enjoyable conversation. We'll definitely return. And we noticed the servers sang Happy Birthday about five different times; seems to be a really popular option due to that coupon! read more

Bring your drivers license for confirmation since they had some issues with "stolen" birthday certificates in the past. Another tip is to ask for CHICKEN hibachi rice and not just normal fried rice. I made a reservation weeks in advance for my son and his friends for prom. The reservation was for 7:15pm and the group (along with myself and a few other parents) arrived at 7:05. We left around 7:35pm and they had not yet been seated. At 8:25pm my son called to say that they would not get a chance to eat, because they were just now about to take their order. This was prom night and it did not seem like this location was ready for the amount of parties that were present (it was completely packed, you could barely get in the door). The only guest who had been to Benihana before was my son. So you essentially had a group of Seniors, who did not enjoy the beginning of their Senior Prom night. Their dining experience was negative and they had been looking forward to this for weeks. They were also starving. While, we understand that there were a lot of parties there, no one expects to have their special night impacted by extremely poor service and planning. We received no apology or even an acknowledgement. This is my favorite location. My friends and I are here all the time. However, I am extremely frustrated by this. So much so, I cancelled my reservation for my birthday celebration. I was also just there on 05/15 for another Birthday celebration and our server was flustered, rude and inattentive. I'm a fan of Benihana and have never been to this location. It's my daughters 28th bday and she decided at the last minute that this is what she wanted for dinner. We arrived and this location is way different from other locations I've been to. There was a 30 minute wait which is not unusual at all. We were seated our waitress arrived promptly took our drink order and appetizer order. Our punch bowl was great as was our sushi the meal was just as I expected it to be AMAZING. Benihana is probably on the top of my list for hibachi restaurants. This location is beautifully placed in the shops of legacy. Located around the fountain. It is conveniently attached to a parking garage so you don't have to walk that far. Perfect for those date nights in heels! We arrived at about 8pm on Monday night. The right side of the restaurant looked closed down for cleanup as no one was over there. Everyone was on the left side. We were told it would be about a 20-30 minute wait, no problem! We sat at the bar for a few drinks and appetizers while we waited. The bartender was super nice and knowledgeable about the drinks. They have different flavors of sake you can get in case you don't like the regular sake. The passion fruit flavor was very tasty. Boyfriend had the apple flavor. By the time we got seated it was about 830-840pm and the restaurant closes at 930pm. Our server was very friendly but you could tell he was a little rushed. We ordered a beer but it was never brought out - we weren't charged for it so it wasn't a huge issue. We could tell he was busy and running around. I had a coupon for my birthday and he noticed it and took it right away before ordering which i liked. No hassle of tracking him down at the end and having to edit checks. The staff even sang me happy birthday which was great and appreciated! The tables in here are TINY. We were at a table with 3 other couples and we were literally elbow to elbow. Made a reservation online which was very easy to do. Got a call to confirm my reservation and they told me to make sure I bring a printed copy of my birthday coupon. We arrived at our reserved time and were immediately seated. They have air conditioning being piped in from special machinery outside so it was comfortable inside. They give you napkins that you scan with your phone to see the menu. Our drink and dinner orders were taken in a timely manner. The chef came out and verified all of our orders and asked if there were any allergies and then started cooking and put on a show while doing so. The food was very good and the portions are big. It was nice to meet new people that we were seated with. This place has fallen OFF! It's dirty and needs a deep cleaning; something was caught in grip of my shoe most likely because the floor had food dropped everywhere probably since the lunch service. I have no idea way reservations are needed and dress code posted on the web-site. The food is mediocre and extremely over priced. The waitress overcharged the final bill; the menu indicated 39.99 for ribeye and colossal shrimp however we were charged 47.50. My colossal shrimp were cooked at the very end as an after thought, after the grill was cleared of food items & everyone served and then given to another dinner guest sitting at the grill/table. The steaks were also all cooked to the same level "doneness". There was no difference in a medium steak or medium well steak and both seemed rubbery. (I ordered medium well, spouse order medium; no pink at all just gray and rubbery) The miso soup had hints of green onion and mushroom leavings usually seen as waste after food prep. The salad was dumped in bowl with no presentation and only few wilted greens & dressing dumped on one side of the bowl. The restaurant had no lemonade so the mango lemonade I ordered was just mango syrup and water over ice. We were tired of the slow waitress and her disappearances, so we swiped the card and hit the door for fresh air. Called back to talk to manager about it and he never came to the phone. I could have gone to Kroger, Tom Thumb, or HEB buy two nice ribeyes, 12 shrimp and frozen fried rice for significantly less money without the poorly ventilated atmosphere of coughing strangers. Will not return - my experience was not good. The bathroom does have a film of greasy dust that's never been cleaned probably ever....We had our kids with us and another kid at the table with a birthday. Salad had no dressing. The cook did nothing....nothing, oh he threw shrimp tails in his hat. That was it....Just cooked. I wouldn't even say he cooked..everything was horrible he put on my plate but the shrimp. Make sure to make a reservation before you go. Keep in mind that even with a reservation, your party can't be seated until everyone is present. Overall staff was nice and food was good. You have the option of getting white rice or fried rice. GET THE FRIED RICE! I ordered Rocky's choice which included steak, chicken, veggies, and dessert. I got my steak medium well which came out to be very tender to my liking. I do think Benihanas is a bit overprice. Most of their food items range from $26-$45. This location is the worst Benihana. We came in here for celebrating friend's birthday. First, we ordered the cocktails. The server told us the bartender was too busy, so she made the mixed drinks. Usually I bring people from out of town here because its a fun environment, you get a "show", and decent food. So as per usual I brought my cousin who was visiting. The experience was just so meh. For example, basic tricks such as throwing a piece of food in someones mouth or taking the "ketchup bottle" and pretending to squeeze it are tricks I always see. This time neither of those occurred among a host of other ones. Literally all we saw from an entertainment perspective was the egg being thrown up and down (which off course is really cool), and the onion train. Normally, I would give Benihana 5 stars, except that we had to wait until 7pm for our 6:15pm reservation because of the homecoming groups and other parties. However, the manager saw everyone waiting and brought complementary sushi for everyone (but I don't eat sushi). The food was great (& expensive) as usual - salad with ginger dressing, soup, chicken fried rice, vegetables, sushi, and the filet mignon. The chef was very understand because many of us didn't want certain things, and gave it to whoever we wanted (lol I got all my boyfriend's vegetables and he got my shrimp). At the end, I got complementary ice cream for my birthday, and they sang both in English & Japanese. Finally, we got a picture to remember the night. Overall, great experience once we were seated. Such a terrible experience. We came for a family event. Had reservations for 6:00 we were seated at 7:05. We waited 30 min for our server to show up to take drink orders and another 30 min before he took our food orders. The cook didn't show up for another 30 min. The waitress came and asked if anyone was celebrating anything and the white couple said birthday and I said my birthday as well. The chef did a great job as I was enjoying my birthday. I'm thinking that as everyone at the table is near the end of eating that the birthday song would be any minute as this is a tradition at Benihana. I was informed that the two managers on duty at the Plano Benihana were ANTHONY MCKEE MARTIN & BRAD TAYLOR (both were truly rude, insensitive with horrible customer service to a senior woman who was dining alone which should not make any difference at all! 1ST INCIDENCE: Come to find out that the waitress asked the white guy if he wanted the birthday singing and he told me that he said "No" but maybe she (which would be me) may want it...." would you believe that she did not ask me at all! WOW...!! 2ND INCIDENCE: The manager goes to tables to ask guests how the dinner was, etc. He came to our table of 4 whites and 1 black (myself) and turned to the whites and asked them how the dinner was and walked away from me. As I tried to get his attention to tell him...."Sir....you forgot about me." He kept walking. I got up and asked a staff person to ask for the manager as I wanted to chat with him. He came to the table and immediately gave me the frowning look on his face and proceeded to tell me that he did not ignore me and that he didn't want to hear that. I knew that there was yet another problem here at this restaurant. I immediately asked him if there was someone else that I could speak with and his words "Yes because I'm not dealing with this!" AGAIN, A WOW...!! 3RD INCIDENCE: A second young man comes to the table and I did not want to assume that he was the manager because he started grabbing the plates off the table and he grabbed the white guy's plate that was one chair from me and started laughing and joking about the grilled onions that were left on the plate as they laughed. I finally asked..."Are you a manager that was asked to come to the table? He said, YES...I am. I attempted to tell him what happened and he gave me all kinds of excuses as to why the waitress may have not asked me and then he had the audacity to say..."It's hard to determine anything if I don't know everything that happened." Then he said maybe you were on your phone as to why she did not ask you about the birthday song. I said to him...what you just said would be assuming something. He said that he would talk to the waitress to find out why and then he walked away. I never got an apology or a traditional birthday acknowledgment. And to add insult to injury, humiliation, and embarrassment.... the couples at the table shared with me that they noticed how I was ignored at the table sitting right there with them and how customer service is not what it used to be. But they were NOT treated like I was treated. Not their fault!! ANOTHER WOW...!! Many people of color patronize Benihana's everywhere just like we do at so many restaurants and places of business which makes it quite insulting to have to deal with this type of rudeness, horrible customer service from what most would call the management team of a fine dining establishment like Benihana-PLANO! We had a chef that burned my yakisoba & vegetables & served me them... we mentioned we did not want our food cooked with butter for health reasons & he was only being disrespectful trying to make the other people laugh with our preference over & over... drowned so much oil in the food... our waitress was gone the whole time & the other people at the table mentioned that too... we didn't get any show from our chef no enthusiasm or anything & rushing... very small portions from usual including fried rice which wasn't even to the top of bowl... us & the other family complained about our experience & the manager offered both parties a certificate after we paid (didn't really seem to care in a rush) looked at my burned food & said "I see" came back & only gave the other family one & zoomed away.
