Good place to come for special occasions only- pretty expensive, and the food is average in my opinion. Service has been inconsistent for me- sometimes the chef has been awesome, very personable, and skilled at his craft and other times not. The servers that bring you drinks/sushi/dessert have always been attentive so I'm pleased with that part Beautiful decor and really cool atmosphere. Restaurant was about 1/2 full, but still waited ten mins. When we were seated, the man didn't turn the grill on high enough. We had to wait 45 minutes for the chef to start. (This was lunch time -- not even dinner). Was at the grill with a family. The lady had three kids with her who I felt for. The man turned the grill up and his manager yelled at him in front of us. Not too professional. The chef was rushed and didn't get to do his usual "tricks". So it wasn't the full experience you'd expect. The food was tasty and cooked properly. Overall we spent two hours for lunch, which was much longer than I expected. I've been to other Benihana restaurants that delivered a good experience. I don't feel they are all offering such poor service, but I doubt I'll ever visit this one again. One plus is that the manager took 25% off the bill, but honestly that doesn't really handle anything. Me and My Brother arrived at about 3:30 pm to get some sushi. Once we arrived, we were seated at the bar and waited for about 10 min before we were even greeted by the bartendar/waiter and there was NO ONE else sitting. We ordered two sushi's, a Shrimp Tempura and a salmon skin. About 5 min after, the waiter comes back and tells us that if we wanted our food we would have to wait an hour because there was no sushi chefs to make our sushi.... Whaaat?? It really made me mad that after we had ordered it, we were basically denied the food because nobosy could make it. Just terrible situation. Personally, I'm not a big fan of hibachi. Hot flying food prepared by chefs saying "Arigato, my name is Jose." No. However, my boyfriend has to meet his cultural needs every now and then. So, being the super duper girlfriend that I am, I chew through it. There's so much Americanized Asian food can be and I'm almost always disappointed when it comes to hibachi. My boyfriend always orders the Benihana Delight and he loves it every time. I've been skipping around the menu trying to find something for myself. The Emperor's Salad is probably the only thing I think is good for the money you pay for. The Garden Delight is more like a Garden Disappointment. It was still cold when I started eating it... When everyone at the table was done with their food. I'm a strong believer of not wasting food so I brought all of it home to microwave. MICROWAVE. The brown rice was overcooked in too much water but I assume that's how their target audience likes it. Never ordering that again. No way, Jose. Overall, not impressed. Pros: Entertaining evening consisting of chef cutlery magic and tasty cuts of various meats. Cons: A little gimmicky. Once is enough. * Ratings and commentary are for dinner service only. You ever been to Six Flags? If so, you probably spent the day having an excellent time, riding rides and acting like a crazy child. At the end, you may have asked yourself, "would I want to do this again tomorrow?" Unless you're wildly immature or just enthralled with amusement park rides and overpriced concessions, you probably said no. Benihana is the culinary equivalent of Six Flags. Your first trip will be amazing. If you never drank sake, they have a number of options and are able to explain the nuances between brand and temperature. We were there for Teppanyaki, which loosely translated from Japanese means "chef spinning cutlery, throw food items into his hat, and dashing Japanese Ketchup (soy sauce) on savory cuts of beef, chicken and seafood". The Japanese translation is just prettier and way more concise. Is it worth the $30? Absolutely. Once. So don't rule this out as an options due to cost. Speaking of which - become a member of their e-club, and you get a $30 cert for your birthday. Got my picture taken, too. I was damn sexy. As I prefaced it's definitely worth going. Just don't expect it to be some place you frequent. Well, other than lunch specials and happy hour. I can't speak to those, but I hear great things. If inspired, I may give it a try. read more

Last night we brought my mom for her first time to Benihana. We were excited for her experience but sucks to say we left very disappointed. Started off great. We walked in with no reservations, and they quickly sat us. But only to wait 15 minutes for our waiter to take our drink order. She was then MIA for another 20 minutes and then came back with half the drinks. I understand the restaurant was busy but we sat right by the bar and saw when the drinks were made. After she dropped off the drinks, a young lady spilt her drink all over the hot plate. It made a loud noise and the waiter quickly came back to see what happened. She then went grab another drink and went MIA again. Meanwhile, the hot plate is cooking the spilt drink. The sugar cooked then burned on the plate. She came back, took our order and later came back with the soup. She went MIA again until the chef came and brought our salads. When the chef came out, he was not happy. Waiter never cleaned up the drink and the sugar burned on the plate. It took him 30 minutes to clean the plate. He did not do any tricks for our table and the food tasted burnt. He did not add any butter or sauce on our food. We attend hibatchi not only for the food but experience. We did not get either. read more

Definitely will not be returning. Our party of three had a reservation for 8:00 on a Friday night. We arrived early, but weren't surprised when they couldn't seat us early (because, see above, Fri night). Still, arriving early made the additional wait that much worse: it was 8:20 before we were at our table, thanks to several large groups that were ahead of us. The hostesses never smiled once, and seemed extremely bored. The decor was more nightclub-with-Asian-influence, less the Japanese-steakhouse that I remember. Meh. The food was perfectly serviceable hibachi, and our chef was entertaining enough. I guess my mistake was in expecting the hibachi show to *evolve* over time. How many times can I see a train made of onions or a shrimp-tail flipped into a chef hat, seriously? It was like we were all going through a very tired script. Other than the chef, the service was underwhelming. But the piece de resistance was the table of 11 women next to us who were clearly partying it up on a mommy's night out. They had had multiple fruity umbrella drinks in the cramped waiting area, and multiple rounds more when they got to their table. They were screaming and hollering the entire time; everyone on that side of the restaurant was interrupted and overpowered and glaring at them. Hear me out, though: I don't give bad marks to a restaurant just because they have tacky patrons. But when the drunkest and rowdiest of those patrons begins VOMITING on herself, before the entrees have even finished, AT THE TABLE, and no one steps in to resolve it, I'm going to have a problem. Yes, the "dinner and a show" at our table consisted of sitting directly across from a drunk woman loudly barfing on herself -- and into cups, napkins, plates, and whatever receptacles her marginally-more-sober friends could find. There was actually chunky vomit on the table and grill. The chef at both her table and ours were patently aware of the scenario, and no one did a thing. They just pretended it wasn't happening, even as I was urging my family to turn their heads and look away. Let me emphasize this point: I had to watch a drunk woman repeatedly vomit all over the table next to me, and this went on for 5-10 minutes... and the Benihana staff never once stepped in to encourage her friends to take her to the immediately-adjacent restrooms. So, not only will that particular Benihana never receive my custom again, but I won't be patronizing any others either. If I want fun hibachi with truly tasty food, I will go to Jinbeh in Frisco on Preston. But if you want mediocre food from a bored staff while you watch trajectory vomiting, head for Benihana at Shops at Legacy. I won't judge. read more

I placed an Uber Eats order for Benihana and somehow through the app, even though they had stopped taking orders and were about to close, the order still went through. It showed the restaurant was still preparing for @45min. So I looked on Yelp and it showed they had already closed. I called Benihana and spoke with Josh. He said the driver showed up and he said they had stopped taking orders but instead of turning her away, he had one of his chefs prepare our food on one of their hibachi table and said it would be ready soon and on its way!! I have had this issue with other places through Uber Eats before and they just said they couldn't honor our order. We've always had a pleasant experience at Benihana's and of course, the day you have guest who have never been and experienced the quality of service was the day the service/experience was horrible! We visited the restaurant and of course, there was a wait, but that was to be expected. Our seats were placed near the back door which I questioned our location but felt it was ok. It started to rain HARD and once other customers were finished with their dinner; they decided to use the door next to our table which was closest to the garage :( When the first customer opened the door, we were showered with rain and wind. We did advise our waitress but nothing was really done to fix the issue. Here comes another customer. At this point, I am agitated because we were getting wet and now there is a puddle of water behind our chairs. I visited the front desk to ask them to move us to another table but I never saw anyone so we took matters into our own hands. We moved 3 chairs from the table and blocked the door to discourage customers from going out of the door. Not only did we get wet, but NO ONE even the manager tried to handle the situation. I haven't been to Benihana in years but I always crave hibachi around my birthday. If you have a birthday coming and you love hibachi, I suggest signing up for their emails. On your birthday you will receive a $30 discount off dinner Monday-Thursday. Very much worth it! Our $70 dinner was only $40 including tip! Though we had reservations we still had to wait 10-15 minutes for our table to set up. Our waiter was super friendly and paid great attention to his during service. What really made this experience great was our chef, Oh No (seriously that was his name according to his name tag). He was very funny and highly interactive which he needed to be since there were kids at the table. He not only gave an awesome show but he cooked great! I am obsessed with Benihana fried rice and have been doing my best to replicate it at home. (It's probably the butter). I got an ice cream sundae, a happy birthday song, and a picture to capture the memories. It was a great night and ya can't beat complimentary valet parking! read more

A few weeks ago I made reservations here through open table for a birthday dinner of 8 people. The reservation was for 7:15 and when I got there I was told I was the first person and they only seat you once all of your party is there. A few minutes later we had everyone and instead of seating us they gave me a beeper and said the table would be ready shortly. Closer to 7:45 is when we actually got seated which made me feel like making the reservation in the first place was pointless. Especially when they sat us at a table that had been open the entire time we were waiting. We ordered drinks and about 15 minutes later those came out. I would like to note the restaurant was not that busy for such long wait times. The sparkling pineapple Saki drink was delicious. It's one of the October drink specials they have going on right now. We also tried the white peach sangria sake which to me tasted like an alcoholic version of the syrup left over in fruit snack pack cups. 20 minutes after that our soup and salads came out and another 10 minutes or so after is when the chef finally showed. It was close to 8:30 at this point which means we had been at the restaurant over an hour and still hadn't eaten. Once he started cooking though everything was great. We tried the side of chicken fried rice which I highly recommend, and we got chicken, shrimp, and beef which they served with zucchini and grilled onions. The food was fresh, watching him cook was fun, and we loved that they gave us a keepsake picture before we left. So I've pretty much gone to Benihana every year for my birthday since I was a teenager. This was my first time at this location. My initial impression was that it is very brightly lit! Come on, Benihana. Let's get some more flattering lighting up in here. Aside from that, the experience is pretty typical for Benihana. I came with a party of 8 and had a reservation (definitely get a reservation for a big party). The "show" hasn't changed over the years, but it's fairly entertaining and the chefs really know how to cook "on stage." If you have never been to a hibachi place before, it really is a unique experience. A bit expensive, but worth it for a special occasion. Also, if you have a group smaller than 8, it's important to know that you'll likely be sharing the experience with a few strangers. I had several lychee martinis. Those things are grrrrrrreat. Not too sweet and unexpectedly strong. I had the hibachi scallops, and they were cooked quite well. If you order a hibachi meal, it comes with miso soup (just ok) and salad (also just ok). They charge extra for fried rice, but you shouldn't skip it. It's delish. Fun place for my bday tradition, but I like the location on Coit in Dallas much better. read more

What's the real insult is we had a large party, and we spent over a grand here with no alcohol you can imagine how much we spent on appetizers and entrees. First off, I made a reservation at 8. Didn't get seated until almost 9. We had to get split into two tables, but they only had 1 chef come out SO our other table got their food started while we sat there hungry and watching them get fed. Finally they got another chef over as their food was almost done, which meant I didn't even get my entree started until 9:45. So yeah... almost two hours after our reservation I started getting my meal. The chef did his thing, but the food was super bland and not really worth the 30-50 something bucks each person's meal came to. I'm not one of those entitled people and having worked in the service industry and retail I cut a lot of slack for restaurants/retail, but this was ridiculous. I love hibachi style restaurants, but can do without this one. The food is mediocre here. I like to get the shrimp and filet mignon with fried rice; however, the rice is always too sticky. I once ordered the salmon and regretted it. It lacked flavor and was rather boring to say the least. The salmon was prepared in a bag, and I think this may be the reason it wasn't too tasty. The service is pretty good at this Plano location though. I've been to the Irving and Dallas locations, and they all deliver the same results to me. WE WERE EXTREMELY FRUSTRATED AND DISAPPOINTED IN OUR EXPERIENCE AT BENIHANA WEST PLANO LAST NIGHT! I had made a reservation a week in advance for my mother's 83rd birthday and re-confirmed two days prior. We had a party of seven people for 6:30 on a Tuesday night. When we arrived promptly at 6:30, we were told we might have a ten minute wait because they were short of chefs. (The restaurant had several open tables.) We waited in the bar for 30 minutes, then asked to be seated so my mother wouldn't have to continue to stand. We were again told of the chef shortage. Our server was friendly and helpful when taking our orders. Recognizing our growing dissatisfaction and hunger, at 7:35 she asked if we would like an appetizer while we waited. When I responded that we didn't want to pay for more food because of their slow service, she said the manager was "really nice" and would probably comp it. By 8:00, there was still no sign of a chef (and we noted that several tables around us were in a holding pattern as well). I told the hostess that we wanted to cancel all of our orders, but would appreciate forks and plates to have the cake we had brought to celebrate our special occasion. At this point, the manager finally approached and begged us to stay, saying she would get a chef over to us soon. I have no doubt that she was sincere, but it was too little too late. She gave me a business card and wrote that we were entitled to $200 and a bottle of wine on a return visit, but we have virtually no interest in going back after this ruined experience of a special occasion. If anyone from Benihana is reading this, I'd like to offer a few suggestions: 1) If you are short of chefs (who are absolutely critical in your business model), better manage your traffic flow, even turning diners away at the door if necessary. 2) Be upfront with your customers about anticipated wait times to manage their expectations and to allow them to make informed decisions. Had we been told at the beginning of the extended wait, we would have been mildly annoyed, but could have taken our business to a neighboring restaurant and enjoyed our evening. 3) If things go horribly awry, PROACTIVELY apologize to your patrons and offer them freebies, discounts, etc. BEFORE they complain to you several times and are walking out the door. read more

The chef would do some shows when he is cooking in front of you. They did well, but I wasn't really a big fan of "playing with food". The food is really just so so. I think the chef took too much time for cooking. First was the fried rice. I was so surprised of the amount of soy sauce poured. So the fried rice pretty much taste only soy sauce. The the entree. Well, I had the spicy hibachi chicken, and my wife had hibachi steak. All I can say is, you can taste distinguishably the seasoning and the meat. It would be great I they marinate the meat first. Bf took me here for a Valentine's Day date. Made reservations and missed it because we both ran late. So we waited. Waited for 40 min which is expected, but not so bad for a Friday Holiday. I'm not really sure where the bad reviews are coming from. I went to Benihana recently and had a great experience! It was a Saturday, so it was busy but we only waited 20 minutes. We were seated and served drinks very quickly and our order was taken in 8 minutes after sitting down. We ordered some sushi and that came out fast also. The specialty rolls were to DIE for good! And, they offer half rolls, which I don't see very often. I love sushi, but it's never my choice for the main course and half rolls make it easy to just taste a few items. Our chef came and prepared our food and it was incredible! We had the chicken and shrimp and I can't say enough about how yum it was! After only having been to the one we regularly went to in California, We were hopeful that it would be the same in Texas. It was even better! Everything was spot on. The fried rice was somehow even tastier. We didn't have to beg the chef for extra mustard sauce, he kept us well stocked. Which helped when another patron helped himself to my balsalmic sauce that the chef prepared only for my tuna. *tourists* drunk and sunburnt to a crisp so I just let him have it. I would give this zero stars if possible because we barely made it in the door. My husband made reservations 6 days prior to our visit for a party of 12, and even called back the day of to make sure they could accommodate/add an infant with a high chair. Both times he was told no problem. We arrived and checked in at 6:15, and after 10 more minutes of no contact, he asked how long the wait would be. With no eye contact he was told the previous party was still there, and they couldn't say how long. We finally get to a table at 6:45 to find only 10 seats. I tell the person seating us that there's only 10 chairs, and he tries to say they weren't advised of the high chair, and he was told it was a total of 12. Still, only 10 chairs at the table. He tells us he'll have to move us, but then the manager arrives and says we will need to be seated at 2 separate tables due to the size of our party. At no time in the two previous phone calls was my husband advised our party would have to be split. They did nothing else to try to correct the issue. So at 7pm, on a Saturday night, we were out on the street with a party of 12 and an infant. Will NEVER return. read more
