I'm tempering my review because I do realize not all things can be controlled by the restaurant. It's a fine line for restaurants these days when so many are using third-party delivery services but isn't it the restaurant that chooses and approves the services they work with? If the restaurant says the service made a mistake, who should "make it right"? How is the customer to know that the service made the mistake? All the customer knows is that we didn't get what we ordered. The service can't help with an immediate solution as they won't be available until the next day. Do not expect this Benihana's to "make it right" either. After personally returning an order that was too incomplete to eat, you'd think they would show some compassion - after all, who would drive many miles for a small mistake? They did admit that they could have done a better job at making sure my order was received in it's entirety - but that only benefits the next guy. Did they have to remake my now cold entrees when it wasn't their mistake? No, of course not. Would it have been good customer service for someone that spends a minimum of $100 every month with them (not that our past dining history should have mattered)? If I owned a restaurant, that's an easy "yes". Was it necessary to call me a racist because I couldn't understand the manager's thick accent and asked to speak to someone that I could understand? That was a first for me by the way. I've been called many things but never that before tonight. I took my business to their competitor 5 miles away and ended up having a nice meal. I will avoid that delivery service in the future but will avoid Banihana's for a lot longer. Benihana's... if you don't get satisfactory results with a third-party delivery service, please discontinue doing business through them. When I see your restaurant on their site, I, and others, assume you stand behind them. read more

We went here for a friends birthday and made reservations during the week for a peak time( Friday at 8pm).. arrived at 7:55 and while my husband waited for the valet the rest of us walked into the place to be sat. The host was less than welcoming saying under his breath "welcome to Benihana" while staring at the screen. I stated my name and that we had an 8pm reservation and host stated that they will seat us when they can. No time frame, no further explanation.. the "waiting area" was a joke with roughly 50 people waiting at the entrance/exit and rude people just plowing into others to leave or come in. No management or communication from the restaurant at all to update people with reservations or the wait time or to keep people from fighting because they were rudely plowed into.. there was a couple that had a 7:30 reservation that ended up leaving (rightfully so) after waiting an hour past their reservation time after being told that they were next 3x.. we waited 45 minutes past our reservation time before we were sat.. the server that we had and the chef were both wonderful, nice and entertaining. A breath of fresh air from the front of house.. The entire experience was underwhelming to say the least and then the bill came and I was appalled.. the gall to charge people those prices with such a disorganized front of house, valet and food. The chef was nice but after all was said and done there was no organization with the way the food was served and at one point we were served 1/2 a plate of partially cooked onions.. should have been more mixed or better balanced but it was all spread out awkwardly and there was no flow at all.. will not be back and please let this be a warning to everyone that this is not the only hibachi place! A special occasion restaurant, I try different meals every time we eat here. The grandchildren love eating here when I am in town. I usually order a steak and shrimp, so much food I have half for leftovers the next day or two. Some times you have a table that will be full of conversation, other times it is quite. We had reservations for a Sunday evening. We arrived on time to a 99% empty restaurant and were handed a pager (in case we couldn't hear the hostess tell us the table was ready over the 4 customers that were already seated on the other side of the restaurant, I guess). Five minutes later our table was ready. I guess it takes that long to bring out a high chair in an empty restaurant? After being seated my 3 year old had a fun time watching a gigantic cricket running around the floor by our table, and about ten minutes later our waitress showed up. First, she took the drink orders of the people seated at our hibachi that came in after us, had no reservation, and were seated before us. Then she took ours. Throughout the night the other party was served first, again, despite us having a reservation and arriving first. Whatever. Just the tip of the iceberg. Finally the waitress took our food order. She kept asking if we wanted fried rice with each entree. Back in the day Benihana used to give you actual food with your order, and fried rice was included- but apparently not anymore (more on that later). Now you get steamed rice with your meal and pay extra if you want fried. Once she finally explained that she was basically asking us if we wanted something that wasn't included, we told her not to bother with the fried and just bring us steamed and finally she took our orders back. The soup came out first. It was okay, but had less vegetables than I remember it having in years past. It was basically broth with a few re-hydrated onions and two micro-slivers of mushroom. Then the salad, which was good but mostly iceberg lettuce. Two sides, all mostly water. In the meantime my 3 year old needed the restroom, so we went to the ladies room and lo and behold, more crickets. Crickets everywhere. Cue 3 year old, screaming in terror. Also, crickets aside, for a bathroom in such an upscale area of town, I was pretty appalled. It looked like it was never cleaned after the lunch rush. In the stall we used there was a drain in the middle of the floor with a sticky substance all around it as if someone had just stood and urinated into the drain instead of using the toilet. It was beyond disgusting, and very confusing why there were two hosts at the host stand, hardly any customers, and yet not one person to be spared to clean the bathrooms... Finally the teppanyaki starts and while the chef was very friendly and personable, the food wasn't great. First of all, they didn't bring my son a plate until the end of the 'show', so he missed out on most of the veggies and shrimp because the chef didn't have anywhere to put them. The chicken was completely overcooked, and the vegetables didn't even deserve a mention on the menu. Back in the day you used to get a huge plate of vegetables with zucchini, carrots, sprouts, onions and mushrooms along with your food. Tonight we got one ring of onion, and one paper thin spear of zucchini which was still mostly raw (which is disgusting). I could have fit all of the vegetables that came with my meal in my mouth at once and still held a pleasant conversation. I don't even think I got a full breast of chicken, and my husband said the shrimp were not de-veined properly. The waitress was very slow to fill our drinks, and nobody in my party got their steamed rice. When it came time to pay, my children didn't get the ice cream that came with their meals, nor did we get the green tea that came with our meals. I mentioned the missing food to the waitress, and a man who I'm guessing was a manager, and the waitress immediately got defensive told me that my husband told her he didn't want the ice cream or green tea, which he denies (he said he was never offered either). After I brought it up, they did offer me my rice to go, but why would i want a container of plain rice to go after my meal was over and all the sauces were gone? Instead of apologizing for the ball being dropped somewhere along the line, her exact words were "that's not on me." Actually, it IS on you. Should I have gone in the kitchen and gotten it all myself? How about a little personal responsibility. I wasn't expecting her to beg for my forgiveness, but a sincere apology for my food not arriving would have been appreciated. That said, I don't really understand the protocols at this type of restaurant, so who knows, maybe it was the chef's job to make sure that the steamed rice made it to the table, but how should I know their chain of command? I don't work there! Furthermore, if it's not 'on you' then why the hell am I tipping you and not the person whose responsibility it actually is???? Interesting how she had no trouble taking our money but mention to her that your meal was incomplete and suddenly it's not her job. read more

I have eaten here so many times over the years- perhaps 20-25 times. Always consistent until this past week. Something has changed here- the restaurant itself seems tired and dirty frankly. The women's bathroom smells awful. The chef at our table coughed repeatedly which most certainly landed germs on our food/plates which were right under him. The waitress was polite but seemed very stressed and frazzled. Our food- waaaay too much salt and the fried rice didn't seem complete to me. No missing ingredients, per se but just perhaps undercooked overall. The chicken and colossal shrimp were nicely cooked and tasty. I truly didn't enjoy the birthday dinner as much as I have in the past primarily bc of the dirty atmosphere and coughing chef. I will wait a long time before going back or may opt for take out next time. read more

Service is worse and food is not great either. We booked two tables (requested adjacent) but were allocated tables far away from another. One of the waitress was good, the other one is worse. How can the chef come to the table with only one egg when we order more than one fried rice? The chef does not have any extras (vegetables or onions or eggs or even rice). Were supposed to provide us steam rice with Entre but did not get any. The list goes on and on...... read more

I have to say, when I went for the first time, I expected a lot better...even though they cook the food in front of you, you are at a table with seven other people. So, if you for Instance want steamed rice and others wants fried, your rice is served first ( whilst waiting for your other food to be cooked) whilst they cook the fried rice. The seafood is cooked and then the beef. By the time they are done , your rice is cold and some of the seafood as well. If you want to eat everything at the same time, then this is defiantly not the place to eat. But if you are happy to eat rice on its own, salad that's really not worth shouting about, have soup that is basically chicken stock with a few green onions and seafood/ beef that is cold or ends up cold because you are having to wait, then this is defiantly the place to go. Definitely a novel type of place to come to where they do all the cooking in front of you. Been here on multiple occasions and pretty consistent each time. I love the hibachi and every element that comes with it. The fried rice is the best! Can get pricey but they usually have some kind of deals or specials. Good place to go for a get together. read more

Very disappointed in Benihana management. For my daughter's 16th birthday last night. Her only request for her bday dinner was sushi. So we chose Benihana and made a reservation for 8 people 4 days in advance. We get there and get seated and the poor waitress had to tell us that they are not doing sushi at all right now because of covid! I have absolutely NO IDEA their reasoning for it as she didn't know. Apparently cooking hibachi a foot from you isn't a risk, but sushi is?! We were all so excited to enjoy the fun hibachi dinner experience for her 16th, but made the decision to leave and go to Ra Sushi across the street. The part that is the most frustrating is they do not have anything on their website about the no sushi covid rule. They also didn't mention it to me in the email to confirm my reservation, the txt to confirm the next day or the actual live person that called me to confirm 4 hours before our reservation. The poor waitress said she has had to tell disappointed patrons this all day every day as sushi is a huge part of their business. Not cool. At least put a warning on your website and notify those that make reservations. read more

This Benihana's has really gone downhill. The service is particularly bad now. The restaraunt is dirty and very disorganized. On our last trip we had to constantly hunt down our server for everything. He acted as if we were bothering him for simple things like drink refills. The strangest thing he did was ask the other half of our table for their dessert order, but not us. When I chased him down, he said he could get us ice cream as if he was hooking us up. Please note that ice cream was included with our meals. The manager's response to this was, "he brought you ice cream didn't he". True Story. Overall, the food was great. However, I am not very happy with the service. I made the reservation online via opentable to avoid wait time. When we went there, we were made to wait for 20 minutes anyway. When I asked for hot sauce, the waitress pointed me to the Chef and when I asked the Chef, he was looking at the waitress. They have redeemed themselves! Their quality had been slipping for a while and the manager was ignorant to all the issues mounting around him, so we had stopped going. After seeing every other restaurant in the area was packed, I decided to try Benihana again. And, they were great! I've ate at a lot of hibachi places and this has to be the worst one I've ever been to. No show,no flavor, just bad.

Service and chef left so much to be desired. The food quality was great but we were hoping for a little more considering we had our 12 year olds birthday that night and repeatedly told them. The chef kept dropping everything, including his spatula on the floor and the server had to be asked multiple times to remove trash and empty plates from the table. We were disappointed as this is what the birthday girl requested but will see out other restaurants next time. read more

First of all, we went to This restaurant 2 days ago. The food was so good and yummy. Our chef Van was doing a great job. The way he cooked was looked so standard way i appreaciated. This may have been chefs first day. Some things not his fault. He had to get bowls. He did few tricks. He gave wrong entree items to people. But most perturbing was everyone was not served at same time. We had three in party. We were served at last 5 minutes apart. He said he didn't want to cook everything at once 'maybe someone more experienced could'. Shrimp cooked to oblivion as well as the chicken. Benihana is one of my all time favorite restaurants to eat at anywhere. We have eaten at Benihana's all over the country and the best 2 we have been to are in the DFW area. It all depends on the chef you have cook for you as to how good the food will be prepared. Buddy is the head chef at the Plano location and by far the best chef we have ever had. We have been eating with Buddy for 10 years. Marco at the Dallas Park Central location is second best. Both know how to prepare the fried rice perfectly so its not too sticky and or burned.Also if its cooked too hot the appetizer shrimp and saute is chewy. No matter the chef I will still eat there because I love the fried rice and ginger sauce!! read more

Usually a great fun place to eat at, but tonight I experienced the worst service in the history of service from the least amount of hustle staff I have ever witnessed. It took an hour to be seated even though we had a reservation. Then it took another hour and a half for the chef to come out and I had expressed that I had another event to attend after dinner and would appreciate a little hurry up offense. Let's just say there was a serious delay of game penalty. Also the toilet would not stop flushing and I was drenched by a tsunami multiple times. The hibachi was very run-of-the-mill and not super impressive. We had advance reservations, and still waited nearly 30 minutes. Couples that arrived after us were seated before us despite us arriving on time for our reservation. Hibachi always takes a while, but the service was only average-below average. The chef was entertaining, but if your drink ran out, you were out of luck if you wanted to find the waiter. Their sherbet at the end was pretty good, and the chef definitely tried to engage his audience. The food was average. Overall, I was under-impressed with the service and food for the price we paid. read more

Hostess gave my reservation away and said "how odd that you and that guest have the same first and last name but you can wait 30 minutes", over cooked our seafood to a chewy rock, chef forgot one of our entrees and appetizers, tells the customer we are wrong when I am the one without a plate of food and I am wrong? I also filled out a complaint several times for the store to make it right to connect with me but that is missing just like my entree and appetizer. read more

Such a sad experience here. We love Benihana but the second we walked in this weekend, I thought "uh oh". The smell of the entire restaurant was really horrible. The women's bathrooms were a mess. Our poor chef was sweet but very inexperienced and it showed in many ways from the food prep to the taste. I had been to other hibachi restaurants before then which I had been quite content with before I visited Benihana for the first time. I went in with my dad and his girlfriend thinking there was no way it could be as good as the others. The first two course, the soup and salad were not served together, very far apart, and we had to wait around fifteen minutes before anyone came to greet us or take drink orders. That being, when the chef came out, it was amazing. Our chef was entertaining as all get out, an absolute riot! He sang songs to us about what he was doing, and was extremely interactive the whole time! Just hilarious! The food was good, just about standard for these restaurants, but I was extremely complimentary of the teriyaki sauce, as it was not just bland and sweet, but very flavorful. We came here on a Thursday night for my husband's birthday ($30 off for birthday if you sign up for their e-club). I had the shrimp and scallop hibachi dinner and it was awesome! Our cook made my 3 year old laugh from the belly and he now wants to be a chef when he grows up (of course that changes daily). Awful. Chef was new. Even told his he was new to cooking he was a server but said they don't have any cooks so now he's one. He didn't make enough rice for the table. Slow to do everything. Scallops undercooked and steak was so bland. The only thing good was the conversations at the table with complete strangers because the whole thing took over an hour and a half. Also the server was great, very attentive and kind. The server is why you get one star. However the server won't keep me coming back I am not paying for that food ever again. read more

Honestly very TERRIBLE restaurant, management, and service. To start, I received Horrible food poisoning from here. The chef cross contaminated the food by touching the raw chicken with the spatula, then touched the fully cooked salmon and plated it. I was in shock at how he did this with no hesitation, and when I had asked for him to cook me a new fish, he explained that he "wiped the spatula before touching the fish". However, he was very kind and fixed the issue. BUT, the manager was Extremely rude and harsh, and did not give us the time of day to explain the issue. I'm sure the manager at this location changed, because when I used to come visit this restaurant, it was always great and I never had an issue with the food nor the hospitality. However, the host and manager ruined my experience and my family's at this place. The management is absolutely horrible and causing so many problems to this place. Our first time was terrible. Today we decided to give them a second chance. That was a mistake. Their customer service is terrible. Had made reservations and got there 5 minutes early. There were plenty of seats open. My husband got there first as we parked the car and were just walking in. The manager told my husband to follow the young lady, when he got to the table she turned around and saw that we were not with him yet she immediately told him oh you can't be back here you need to go back until they get here. Which literally was a 1 minute later. When he told us what happened the lady who originally took him stood there and said "so do you want to go back". No customer service, no smile, nothing. They didn't care if we dined there or not. We will never be going back here again!! read more
