Hosted our company Christmas party at Bennett's Westside. It was a great experience! The restaurant is clean and elegant. Our waiter was Hailey and she was extremely friendly and did an amazing job serving our large party. Some items that we ordered: the steak and bacon tacos - delicious! Beet salad - one with salmon and one with shrimp - the salad came with golden and red beets, plenty of salmon and shrimp and the dressing was light and very flavorful! Brick chicken came with well seasoned fries and the lasagne was also a hit. We ordered the dip trio and the charcuterie board, both delicious and plenty to share. The portion size of the mains were large enough for most of us to take home to eat as a second meal. Price point overall very fair. We will be going back to this Bennett's often! read more

Delicious! Great location, wonderful food, amazing server. Saw this place open up near us where the old Chevy's Mex used to be. I was hesitant to try it because our experiences at the Bennett's in Roseville weren't that great. That location is gorgeous but the food lacked much flavor other than too much salt. My mom was visiting and wanted to treat my husband for his birthday dinner. She asked him to choose a restaurant. He saw that Open Table had reservations for Bennett's Westside Grill, so we went there. Before going, I read the Yelp reviews and was honestly preparing for the worst. Parking was plentiful (they share a huge parking lot with big stores like Hobby Lobby, Dollar Tree and further down, RC Willey). The interior is dark and feels upscale. As we entered, we noticed several flies at the door with us. I remember reading about flies in the other Yelp reviews as well. Waited a few minutes and were soon seated in the back where there were lots of huge "reserved" booths. Soon our server, Wes, came and greeted us. Wes was fabulous--so attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. You can tell he's just a really sweet and caring person. We ordered the prime rib dinners (weekends only), halibut, short rib and crab deviled eggs. Mom replaced her mashed potatoes with cauliflower. I prepared to take a bite and be disappointed (as I was at their other Bennett's location). Instead, it was DELICIOUS. My husband and I even commented about how good the mashed potatoes were. The prime ribs were great, my short rib was wonderful and my brother seemed satisfied with his halibut. We talked about how huge the prime rib was, and how it was a good size portion for the price. My short rib was also huge, with plenty to share with everyone. We arrived at 5pm but over the course of the night, the place quickly filled up with a steady flow, including homecoming attendees dressed in formal dresses. They even have this additional seating area that's enclosed but almost gives a feel of outdoor seating, much like the other Bennett's location. Very pleasantly surprised at this Bennett's. Had a wonderful dinner. Restroom stalls have locks that turn green/red, so you don't have to push on the door to see if anyone is inside. A few minor issues that they could improve on: * Do something about the flies. We spent a good portion of the meal trying to swat a fly that kept pestering us. There were several at the door when we entered too. Get one of those industrial air blower curtain things at the door or contact pest control to see if they have ways to minimize the flies. Just doesn't give a good impression of an upscale restaurant if there's flies around while trying to dine. * Cleanliness of items. Our water glasses had lipstick imprints on them. Hard to see in the dark but very evident when a light was shown on them. We informed Wes and he quickly brought us new ones. Probably need to get the bus boys to polish the rims of the glasses better, since lipstick residue doesn't usually come out in the dishwasher. When I opened up my cloth napkin to remove the utensils, I was a bit grossed out by the dirty stains on the napkin (see photo). Management should train their employees to make sure the napkins don't have stains before rolling up utensils. * Room temp. When we were first seated, the A/C was blasting and it was VERY cold. My mom quickly put on her jacket. Saw another customer at another table wearing a heavy jacket also (it was 95 degrees outside). In the middle of the meal, it became extremely warm, as if everything had been turned off. We figured maybe someone has complained about the A/C being too cold and they ended up over correcting on the temp. It got better towards the end of the meal but we did discover the server couldn't light the candle on the sundae because the air was blowing on our table so fiercely. They took the sundae to the side to light the candle, then covered it with a wine glass and brought it to us. The second they removed the glass, boom, the candle was extinguished. * Better training of bussers, etc. During our visit, we heard a plate/glass falling and breaking TWICE (someone yelled "Opa!" each time afterwards) and another time, it sounded like a large tray was dropped. We figured it was due to inexperienced servers/busboys. Another time, our server was filling our waters and ended up spilling water all over the ground. He apologized but did nothing about the spilled water. I was concerned someone might slip and was tempted to put my cloth napkin on the floor (but my husband stopped me, lol). I wasn't sure if the server was planning to come back to wipe it, but he didn't. After a few minutes went by, I mentioned it to a busser, who quickly cleaned the spill with a cloth. But other than that, a great addition to the Rocklin area! Perfect place to take a date, host a family dinner, or even just have a casual meet-up with friends. read more

Had to get up, find a waiter and ask them to find our waiter so that we could order. Then entrees took quite a while to arrive. We ate and then waited and waited for our waiter to return. #2 Food was good but prices are really high for what is received. #3 After another very long wait, had to get waiter's attention to obtain our bills. #4 20% tips were INCLUDED. First off our waiter was amazing we happened to be there for happy hour so we got some drinks . I had an issue with one of my drinks I talked to my waiter about it he made me an other . I hate sounding like a complainer I really I'm not one of them people that just just loves to complain but it's hard when everything you get you dislike . So my kids ordered food from the kids menu my son ordered the French bread pizza and my youngest ordered the Mac and Cheese . I think the Mac and Cheese could of came with fries or a side . I ordered the wedge salad on Happy Hour for $9 I have to say it did not have enough toppings on it pretty much just lettuce not enough blue cheese crumbles or bacon. My husband ordered the Calamari and I ordered the short Rib Tacos I had to request salsa since it didn't come with any . The homemade tortillas were very good just wish the meat had more flavor with better salsa . The calamari was not my husband's favorite either . This is the thing the place looks very classy and elegant but the food does not match the place . The food is very overprice with no flavors. The menu is all over the place . Yes they have Happy Hour which is cheaper but the portions on happy hour are just smaller so it's more of a trick to make you think you are paying less for what you are getting but you're not. And on top of that is just not good . Sorry that is my opinion . My experience so I hope no one gets upset . Everyone has different experiences and like different kinds of food . Being sat at a table for 10 with 11 guests, tolerating a cramped table end for my wife and myself, frigid cold air directed at us from the AC unit, poor service, no offer of a coffee refill, messing up my order, we got the bill. The bill included an 20% tip based on not just the meal, but the tax too! Once we got the bill, there was another opportunity to add a tip to the 20% plus tip already paid! Mica, who claimed to be one of the managers did manage a sympathetic "I'm Sorry." Bennett's claims to respond within 24 hours and depending on where you are in the process, 1 business day to their "valued" customers. They have done neither. It's now Tuesday late afternoon. The messages were sent early afternoon Friday. I've concluded that Bennett's West Side Grill isn't the slightest bit concerned if a long time customer is dissatisfied with their service. Sad to say this is what I've come to expect from this once prized eating establishment. read more

Ordered the oysters, 1/4lb cheese burger from the happy hour menu, and the charcuterie board. Menu says 7 oysters but we were served 6. Brought this up with our waitress. Server comes out and says "here's that 'extra' oyster for you guys". Sir, this was supposed to be our last oyster. It's not EXTRA. Server took way too long to be found to request boxes and the check. Mind you, this was between 2pm-3:30pm on a Saturday and they were not busy at all. Probably had 4 other tables with parties of 2-4. Waitress charged us the wrong bill which was $30 more than our actual bill. When we went up to their front desk to fix this, it felt like we were the ones inconveniencing them. I was super excited when the Bennett's opened their third restaurant- two in the Roseville/Rocklin area, and one in Sacramento. We made reservations noting a special occasion on the reservation. Our friends met us, and we were promptly seated. The chairs are not comfy, and it made for an uncomfortable experience for all of us The waitress while sweet, is totally inexperienced and I don't know that she's had any proper training. She wasn't attentive throughout the entire meal. Our glasses were left empty, and it took eons for her to return to take our order. We ordered a jalapeño cornbread for the table to share. While it was tasty, it was wet throughout its entirety. The waitress didn't check on us. When she did return, it was to take our order, and then left saying she'd be right back. 15 minutes later she returned for our orders. I ordered the halibut, and the first time it arrived, the fish was overcooked, and swimming in what appeared to be oil. I asked her about it, and she said that no one had returned their halibut tonight. Ummmm, ok. I ended up sending it back as per the waitress who said I needed to. My inner voice was saying why did you serve it if it looked bad ?!? The second iteration was much better, but by the time it was served everyone else has finished their own meals. We ordered the butter cake to share, and I found the exterior to be overcooked, but the inside was tasty. The new Bennetts was a pleasant surprise. And for a Wednesday night it was hopping! This was our first visit and having been to the other Bennetts I would easily prefer this one although the other is a very nice restaurant. First of all, the renovation is superb. There is nothing to suggest they didn't build this establishment for exactly this restaurant. There are all sorts of details that draw your attention and the ambiance is warm and inviting. While it is not a silent experience it wasn't a loud one either, which I was expecting. We still had a conversation that was easy to hear and have. Upon entering, Tom offered us complimentary wine. Nice touch. I think that so many other restaurants overlook how this small detail was kind of the keystone to the entire experience. Bennetts has a lot of serious competition around them, and we have been to all of them many times. Not once has any of them offered me a cold glass of wine when it was 108 outside. I don't know what the cost of the wine was wholesale, but it reaped rewards from just about everyone I stood next to while waiting to be seated. These details matter. Next, the waitstaff. They are new. And this is a big establishment that isn't a simple operation. I was pleasantly surprised at how efficient the operation was, from us getting seated without reservations to our food delivered in a timed fashion that was clearly on purpose. Did my waiter know everything on the menu inside and out? Not yet, but he was willing and gracious to get me the details quickly. Overall, the service and our waiter was fantastic, and I feel the culture is one of growth so I would expect it to continue to evolve. Next the food. We split two items. The heirloom salad and the cedar salmon. Both were executed incredibly well. We discussed splitting the meal between my wife and myself as the waiter took the order. We didn't ask for it to be split. It came split and again, a detail that happened automatically. We were treated like we were the only patrons and every detail mattered. Our meals were prepared fantastically and I was very impressed. The salmon came hot and with a crispy exterior and medium rare interior. The salad had large slices of sweet delicious tomatoes along with prosciutto. Served with a sticky tangy balsamic and it was wonderful. Finally value- there were options on the menu from 12 to probably 80 and all of them were interesting. However, with our meal, we got out of the door under $75 with all things considered, was a fantastic value. To put this in perspective, we went to sonic the other day and ordered two large cherry limeade slushes and it was about $10. So.....$75 for what we received was well worth the cost. Ultimately this comes down to revisits. Would I come back?? Absolutely. I think they are inventive, offering brunch both Saturday and Sunday, Prime Rib on the weekends, and a Monday weekday special. I am a fan, and I thin Bennetts is off to a great and hopefully long stay in the new facility! read more

Wow! Wow! Wow! Absolutely a step above! We had never visited a Bennett's before this. Now, it is my top favorite for a special night out. The food was the best I have had in years. The butcher board charcuterie had mounds of high quality low fat proscuitto, mounds of high quality salami, mounds of high quality spicy pepperoni, three wonderful cheeses - extra extra high quality sharpest cheddar, quality blue cheese, and a wonderful tasty fresh white cheese. Absolute BEST charcuterie board I have ever had. We also had a smoked salmon that was smoked in house. Again, hard to believe, but the absolute BEST salmon I have ever tasted. My wife had a St. Louis Ribs, boneless Fried Chicken pieces, and waffle fries with curly fry seasoning. It is hard to find St. Louis ribs anymore. The ribs were tender and tasty with a wonderful subtle BBQ sauce that did not mask the good taste of the ribs. The fried chicken pieces were well cooked, not oily or dry, with the thinnest well-spiced batter on them. The food and drink selections were ample, not too few, with very unique but not esoteric offerings. We finished it off with a unique lemon creme brulee I had never seen before. The chefs are really on the ball, like I have not even seen in Napa. You really get a good amount of good quality product for the dollar. The owner actually came by twice to check on us! Wow! He made us feel welcome and at home! Really nice to see the owner checking things out at his place! A very rare thing these days! Our server Kyle was kind, courteous, and stopped by often. The building was converted very intellegently from an old Chevys. Even if it gets to triple digits, the inside and enclosed patio are quite comfortable and cozy. They have three different spaces for private and semiprivate large parties. Very smart thinking. They even have some popular selections available at a to-go counter. It was quick, professional and very much appreciated. He even came by and apologized again later in the evening. Our server was humble about the oversight and a sweetheart. My husband and I came here for our anniversary based on the good reviews. My husband ordered the steak frites which came with a small portion of steak and a huge pile of fries. He said the steak was good and liked that it came with gravy. I had the brick chicken which was described as "marinated and oven roasted" and came with mashed potatoes and zatar cornbread croutons. The dish didn't look very appealing since it was completely beige...no veggie or garnish at all. The chicken was very bland and dry. I took it home for my dogs. Service was ok, but after I boxed my dinner and we paid the bill, she left the dirty plates in front of us. That's a huge no-no, especially from a place trying to pass as fine dining. Made reservations 6 weeks ago. Didn't know we would be sitting on the patio. Wife was cold. Had to laugh, my wife and I each ordered the filet. Asked them to be cooked medium. First set was well done, 2nd set was rare. 3rd set one was med well and the other med rare. We shared the one filet but it didn't have much flavor. Frustrating as we were looking forward to a nice evening. Had to eat lots of mashed potatoes with our coats on. I asked if we could get a butter cake to at least finish off on a good note. Unfortunately it was dry. One positive, the drinks were good and the company was great. We had water and napkins on the table. I've learned if you want a great filet, go to Ruth's Chris. Honestly nothing better than reasonably priced food with us incredibly delicious. The atmosphere welcomes a dimly lit, very personal experience with a variety of new American dishes. I only got to try 2 of the many items but I had zero complaints about either of them (even went ahead and developed a marriage between the pimento cheese and the cheeseburger--was delicious). The server was very welcoming and effective. She got our food correct and how in a timely manner. Even some of the customization and additions I've made--all came out perfectly. Just had an early Mother's Day brunch here. Service was really good--thanks Sara . Ambiance was good. Food was disappointing. We all had the smashed potatoes and those were extremely dry and all of us had at least two whole, not smashed, potatoes on our plates. I had the banh mi sandwich and it was ok but a little dry. I really expected it to have sauce, or a spread, but it was just dry bread. Other orders at our table included the eggs Benedict, a loaded bacon omelette, and a two egg platter with bacon. It's hard to screw up bacon, so that was good. The biscuit on that plate was dryer than the dry smashed potatoes. The eggs Benedict was inedible--the sauce was definitely off and the egg whites were runny. Not how eggs Benedict should be. The omelette was the only win besides the bacon, so whoever was on the omelette station, good job. This was a somewhat disappointing experience. We'll stick to the Bennetts in Roseville. The only reason for the three stars was the great service we received from Sara. read more

We've been coming to Bennett's Westside since it's been opened and it's now become a weekend brunch staple for my boyfriend and me. It's definitely weird to walk into the building knowing that it used to be chevys, so to see how they renovated the whole inside is pretty crazy. The bar is huge, there's a huge screened in patio and even a private party room to the back. Modern design, warm lighting. We love sitting at the bar top and getting their bubbles and brunch special, which is two entrees and a bottle of bubbles for like, $50. It's a killer deal, hard to pass up. Also, Bloody Marys here are bomb, too. To date, I think I've tried everything on their brunch menu with a few exceptions (like the quiche cause I'm not a huge eggy fan), but I personally love the chicken tortilla soup. Burgers are also pretty solid. Boyfriend is biscuits and gravy kinda guy, so that's always his go-to. We've been for dinner a handful of times, the steak frites is great, the hoisin pork chop is great, the brick chicken is amazing. Happy hour is a solid menu too, plenty of choices for snacks and shareables and then cocktail list is a really great deal too. We have had the pleasure of having Hailey serve us for dinner a bunch of times and she's always been so sweet and helpful navigating the menu and answering questions. I'm all about the food and that's where we were left lacking. My husband got the prime rib special. Ordered medium rare it was served medium at best. The potatoes were tasty but cold. He says he thinks the prime rib might have been brined because all he could taste was salt. He enjoyed the calm chowder best of his meal. I ordered the cannelloni. All I can say is don't. The marinara was pretty good if you like sweet sauce but the pasta shell was both undercooked and crispy. The filling was like a base for a pot pie but the vegetables were raw. The food was not fabulous. My pork chop was tough, good flavor but overcooked, the brussels sprouts were undercooked, and my wife's salmon was truly unpleasant in color and taste. The service was pleasant but less than professional. At the end, in a menu section featuring four after dinner ports, I requested the 30-year old port. The waiter returns and says the bartender is confused because there are four selections. But only one was the 30 year old port. Sigh. Otherwise the service was friendly, wine pours generous, very nice and quiet ambience. But do yourself a culinary favor and go across the parking lot to the Chef's Table. The servers are amazing. The bubbles and brunch for two is $49.00. You can order two of any brunch entrees and a bottle of champagne. My husband loves the crab omelette. I like the quiche, the Maui beet salad ( I substitute blu cheese for the goat cheese) and the country fried steak. First time customer of this establishment. A disappointment. I ordered only 2 things: The Spicy Crispy Chicken Banh Mi and a Classic Cosmopolitan Cocktail. The waiter made what I thought was an innocuous comment, but it later had me wondering. He said "Oh, just eating light tonight?" Um, it's a full hot sandwich and a cocktail -- is that considered "eating light?" when you're solo, not sharing plates? He may have known it was ala carte, but as a first time visitor, I didn't. As the next 30 minutes would reveal, the service was really lackluster. 1 out of 5 stars, and that's being kind. The Quest for Service and Liquids, Part 1 I was seated (dining alone), and was not offered or brought any water. I ordered my sandwich and cocktail from Waiter (Staff Person #1), and I thought he'd return with a glass cold water, as I watched all other tables around me receive. No water was forthcoming. I was really thirsty and eager for a glass of water, especially because the sandwich was described as "spicy" (fortunately, it wasn't). I tried to remind him each time he passed, but no eye contact was available and his hands were full, so I didn't nab him. Part 2 A few minutes after ordering (pretty darn quick), Runner (Staff Person #2) placed my sandwich on the table, and immediately kept up her drop and move momentum, leaving without pausing long for me to say a word. I wanted to share 1) that I had a cocktail coming (typically first) and 2) really would appreciate a glass of water. She was gone. I had a sandwich now, no water, and no cocktail. I kept it uneaten in front of me for just a moment or two, looking right and left for anyone I could catch an eye with, to order water -- and ask for the cocktail. It just wasn't going to happen. Part 3 The waiter was walking by to another table and looked down and said "Oh, your cocktail! I'll check." He returned a minute later with it and sat it down. Off he went, not long enough for me to say "And that water please!" It was that fast. The cocktail did not appear freshly shaken and wasn't the typical ice cold, so it may have been on the bar waiting to be picked up because he forgot about it. There was not a speck of cold condensation on the glass. Just a glass of pinkish punch. That cocktail was terrible. Full stop. Tasted like a pre-made cocktail-in-a-can. Too vibrant of a pink looked and tasted more like a mixer than actual cranberry and lime. 1 out of 5 stars. Part 4 The next time he walked by I said "May I please have a glass of water?" Sure! He never returned with that water. Part 5 I'm now sipping on the terrible cocktail as the only liquid, and eating the sandwich, looking to make contact with anyone at all. Finally I saw a Waitress (Staff #3) linger a bit near the bar, so I gestured her over and said "I'd really love a glass of water!" with a smile. Not her fault I didn't have one, so no reason to be less than friendly or demanding. She brought it immediately, at long last. This entire time, I'm watching every party seated, being given fresh water! So odd. Part 6 My waiter returned and asked if I was "still good" -- but I'd hadn't been asked if I was good after either item had been served in the first place. I just nodded because I was swallowing and knew this wasn't going to go well tonight. If I hadn't been swallowing I had wanted to ask if anything was served with this sandwich -- because every burger and sandwich on the menu was shown as including fries --- but not this one? It was priced roughly the same, so not sure why this particular sandwich was alacarte, whereas others included a side. Maybe that's what he meant by "eating light" but, he hadn't said it was ala carte, nor asked me if I wanted to add anything to the the order, so I was a bit confused. Part 7 I finished only half of the sandwich and he brought me a box, and the check, at the same time, with the message "No hurry, take your time." I was not asked if I wanted dessert, an after dinner cocktail, coffee, anything else. Nada. I basically felt ignored as a solo diner, which does happens from time to time. I tend to tip 25% if I'm alone and get good service because I'm compensating for taking up a table as only a solo diner, but in this case -- the $34.32 tab had a gratuity tier and 18% was $6.18 -- I rounded it down to $6.00 because I was really disappointed in the experience. I don't want to judge this restaurant by ONE experience, so I'll return another time and see if it improves at a different time slot than this one (7 pm on a Sunday evening). read more
