If you want to experience a casual environment and get the best food possible, this is the place to go. The sign out front featuring a one pound lobster roll caught my eye. Being on vacation I always want to try new places. After discussing how many people the one pounder could feed, I opted for a smaller version. The lobster was tender and succulent, the split roll and butter were fresh and so much I almost couldn't finish, but I did. It came with piping hot fries and a delicious cole slaw. Paired with an ice cold Stella it was all you ask for in a New England meal. We also had fish and chips. The haddock was fried perfectly and a huge portion. They offer 30 different flavors of wings. The wings were huge, tender and delicious. The owner and Mike who prepared our meals were so friendly and we had a great conversation with them. It was a delightful experience. I would like to state first and foremost that the nice woman waitressing at this location deserves so much better than the way the owner of this establishment treats her. I and the rest of the patrons were forced to listen to him berate and swear at her repeatedly for his own mistakes. I watched him hand the waitress the wrong type of chowder three different times. Screaming and name calling her each time. As well as continuing to utter random obscenities as she was walking away and tending to the clientele. I am very curious as to how well the rest of the afternoon went on 8/10/25. As I was leaving the owner was yelling and swearing at two women in the parking lot who had the audacity to stand up for the waitress. The patrons waiting out front all leaving. I graduated URI in '20 and used to go to Benny's Clam Shack when it first opened up. I've always had great experiences there and have had many different menu items including the wings, Bennys Boom (both burgers and chicken), fries, fish and chips, clam cakes, clam strips, and more. Needless to say I've been there a lot. This past weekend I was gown in Narragansett for the first time since graduating and decided to offer up Benny's for dinner after the beach. I was a little nervous since it's been years but was feeling nostalgic. Not only did Dave recognize me right away, but he's still the same great guy super sociable and even brought our food out himself. Between our group we ordered a Benny's Boom Burger and Chicken Sandwich, Fish and Chips, Chicken Parm Fries, Buffalo Fries, and a grilled cheese for the baby. I ate at Benny's with my family during a visit to the area in the summer of '21. We had lobster rolls, fried oysters and clams, chowder and an order of fish and chips. Personally I don't understand all of the mediocre and poor reviews. I wasn't expecting fine dining and yes, some of the prices were a bit high, but the food was good and the service friendly. We ate on the patio because it was such a nice day. The next time we visit RI I plan to stop in. I think some people use these reviews to flame restaurants they don't like. Mom & Pop places like this live and die on food, service and reviews because there are probably a dozen other places close by where you can get the same type of food. We placed an order for pick up. There was little that was redeemable about the order. The cheesesteak had almost no cheese and was the size of a hot dog bun and didn't have the mushrooms and onions in it (for $12). They gave us the wrong hot dog ( A $10 HOT DOG!). Lastly, we ordered the wings. They didn't come with any blue cheese and were rancid. The moment we took them out of the bag we could smell that the chicken had gone bad. Stumbled upon this place while staying next door at Fishermen's Memorial Campground. Ordered our food for takeout. Happy we found the place because the food was great. I'm not sure where the negative reviews are coming from. I ordered a simple fish and chips dinner. For about $17 I received a pretty generous portion of fried fish, a bunch of fries, cole slaw, lemon and tartar sauce. The fish was fried to perfection and was complemented by fries that were very lightly seasoned and adequately crispy on the outside and soft in the middle. The fish was flaky and went well with the tartar. The only negative I could find was that the tartar was a little heavy on what I believe was dill. To round it out was a small cup of cole slaw, which was not too sweet nor overly dressed as is often the case. Though I didn't order much, what I did order was very satisfying. Next time we're in town, I'll definitely be back. read more

Came here on a Monday night at 8PM, and there were a few people eating at the tables but no one in line to order. The staff was busy and after 5 minutes of waiting at the window, a guy came out and said he would take my order in a minute. I noticed he delivered food to someone in the parking lot. After 5 minutes of waiting, he was still chatting in the parking lot and the two other staff members inside did not acknowledge me at all. After 10 minutes, i was ready to leave (to be honest, I came here since the line at Aunt Carrie's was 15 people deep) but the guy finally came back to take my order. My husband and I got our food pretty quickly and it was just ok. Pretty expensive for a subpar lobster roll and fish and chips. I also found it rude when the guy who took my order came over to my table to ask for a name for the order (for COVID-reasons) and when I responded with my name, he turned to my husband to ask for his name and number instead of mine. However, my biggest concern was the irony of COVID-19 guidelines.. they refuse to serve anyone without a mask, and the guy (who seems to be in charge) yells at customers who dare step food on the deck if someone else is ordering, yet he did not have his mask on! When we drove up we saw many groups seated at outdoor tables. No window, no line, no menu or other signage was visible. We presumed the answer was inside. We were very excited to try this place after a day at the beach. There were a few people waiting outside for their orders and a few inside who looked very frustrated and we soon found out why. Apparently, the cook was overwhelmed and yelled at the cashier and it sounds like they're maybe short staffed as the cooked said he can't do it all himself though there was help in the back. We ordered take-out from Benny's Clam Shack while spending a day at Roger Wheeler Beach. The owner is a U.S. Marine Combat Veteran, he is high energy but very friendly! The restaurant is hot inside so recommend eating outside or getting it to go. We ordered the fried clam roll, clam cakes, stuffies, and red clam chowder. My wife really enjoyed the clam roll, served piping hot with juicy, tender, well seasoned clams, the fries were delicious as well! The clam cakes were big, crispy, and perfectly seasoned. The stuffies were moist, full of clams, in a delicious stuffing. The red clam chowder was good but not our favorite as it tasted like regular clear Rhode Island chowder with a spoon of added tomato purée. I was served a lobster roll ($32) that looked great. Big chunks of lobster and overflowing in the roll. I bit in to it and gagged. It was fishy, salty, watery, and tough. I had to spit it out because I could not chew it. My husband convinced me to take another bite. Using my fingers I picked up a piece and bit into it but could not bite through it. My husband had the scallops and said that they were chewy. Both of these were more expensive than Champlains' and their lobster roll was great. The scallops were cooked perfectly, there were twice as many and cheaper. A refund was not offered, my husbanded requested it on the way out. Oh my goodness! We stumbled across Benny's Clam Shack by accident. So glad we did. My husband and I are visiting from LA with my 80+year old parents. Eddie at the counter couldn't have been any kinder to all of us. What a nice person. My parents are from New England and said the Clam Chowder was one of the best they have ever had. You could taste the hint of fresh dill. Super yummy and served hot. We also tried the clear broth chowder which was excellent. The Lobster roll had a full pound of meat with no mayonnaise sauce. Fries were cut with skin on and crispy not greasy at all. The fish sandwich was spot on and the whole belly clams were incredible too. Lots of beers on tap too. I highly recommend Benny Clam Shack.
