I have been going to Ben's for as long as i can remember. But it definitely got even better once i became an adult!! Ben's is hands down my favorite gun shop, they have a large ever changing inventory and great employees to match. I've found everything to be pretty well priced and i have also seen them negotiate to try to match or come close to competition prices or online. the atmosphere is always light and there is usually plenty of help at the counter (no 20+ minute wait for help because some army vet is talking the only guys ear off) the people working the counter arr always engaging, friendly and extremely knowledgeable. This is a great place to purchase a firearm. All of the staff are polite, friendly, and eager to offer advice and professional opinions. I have never had an issue purchasing from here. The prices are reasonable and they are willing to negotiate within reason on used weapons and their other used items. They offer jewelry cleaning and very minor gun repairs like installing sights and grips. No break/fix repairs. I have heard some horror stories, but the store has an excellent set of employees at this time. read more

I didn't feel comfortable leaving an item here, was unsure what condition I would receive it back in. I legitimately was concerned for the safety of my property. The staff is unhelpful, and didn't seem too bright or motivated. Save yourself the trouble, and go anyplace else. I just felt like visiting a pawn shop because I had some other business in Renton. I just needed to kill some time and thought I would see what was there. I like watching Hard Core Pawn and Pawn Stars so I thought it would be a fun way to spend some time. It worked out. The people were nice. While the store is not as sprawling as I hoped it would be, I did find something for a great deal and am happy that I wandered in. The staff were amazing, helpful and friendly. read more

I have been here several times and it seems like they just have too much stuff. Too much highly priced stuff. They want 4 bucks for their video tapes Disney movies and don't get me started on the game prices. The walkways are tiny and I probably ran into something on the floor like 5 times. Service isn't any better. I really don't see any reason to return. read more

Really awesome place to purchase a firearm. I was helped by a guy named Rodney and he gave me some really helpful tips. I ended up buying a Ruger AR and was not disappointed. Background check was fast and even learned a little bit more about my AR. Woot! I would definitely buy again from there. read more

I go here for there firearm selection. They have a pretty nice inventory. Glocks, M&P's, Springfield's, 1911' s, some revolvers, ect. ARs, bolt rifles (rem 700, rug scouts), 10/22s, ect. Even seen hooked up Glocks from Zev Tech and the new Lionheart Industries pistol. I'm sure they are 1 of few shops that carry those custom Glocks. AR part's, BCG, LPK. They have a decent ammo selection for a reasonable price. Flash lights, knifes, ammo can's, scopes, red dots, carrying cases, cleaning supplies... They have it all! Oh and did I mention the layaway plan. One of the best in the NW. You can damn near put anything on layaway! Now I know by the way I talk about this place you might think its just a gun shop but its not. Its a pawn shop. They have a nice selection of jewelry as well as other things. Tools, movies, computers, TVs, bikes, ect. Check them out. I drive all the way from Tacoma because I love this place. I just recently moved up north and am glad I'm so close to there shop. Oh yea and the people are VERY friendly. If you have a question just ask. Don't be afraid to ask a question. Some people don't like it when store workers approach them in the store and others do like it. They will ask if you need help and if you say no I'm just looking around its up to you to speak up and say hey can you help me now when your ready to see something. Remember they do still have other things to do. It is a business. read more

You will not find a more helpful, friendly and low pressure sales staff than that of Ben's Loans gun counter. These guys actually enjoy meeting and helping people make the best choices for their personal protection. Have been a customer since the 80's, and the prices are getting way out of hand compared to other pawn shops. The place is starting to look creepy with to much stuff that you can actually trip over. Now days you can use your phone to compare prices of new to use, and they are so close to new prices, but they seem to know their customers need a first and look second. Many items in their store are clearly damaged or over-used, but they sell at hardly any discount. I watched them take advantage of people several times. It could be they know they attract a lot of lower income people in tough situations. You read this and think I have an ax to grind and these are insinuations. You can stand there for 15 minutes and watch them take advantage of people pawning and buying. Years ago I didn't see that in their store. I witnessed them not giving people back their stuff on small technicalities. They sell guns, and in the 90's I bought guns from them so I have no problem with that. The problem is no one is going in their to rob them, so why do most of the sales clerks have side arms? I checked the Renton crime report for that business, and no robbery attempts. I'm sure some well say that is because they do wear guns. Well I checked reports for pawn shops in the area, ah no! I did have a sander I tried to return that I purchased on my credit card. I took it home and brought it back the next day because after 5 minutes of sanding it started making a bearing noise of some kind. They would not give me money back on my card when I returned the item right away I got a nasty attitude from the two female sales clerk before they even tried to test the unit. Now for the real silly part the sander had no sand paper on it but they kept claiming they took it in the back and tried it and it worked fine. Yeah well the problem with that turning it on and letting it run is very much different Fromm sanding for 5 minutes. I had to have my bank reverse charge. In years past they were respectful and helpful on returns, those days are over. Check your phone/ online to compare shop if you go into Ben's Loan, and be willing to walkout if you don't feel you are getting a good deal pawing or buying. I got a loan on one of my instruments. When I went to pay off the loan I was told they only accepted cash and would not accept my card as payment. I'm not sure why that is, perhaps it's an individual business decision or a state regulated issue. At any rate, I was a bit peeved at the inconvenience. They also acted as though they couldn't care less whether or not they got your business, really indifferent. read more

Ben's Loans used to be the best all-around gun shop in the Puget Sound area. Now, they still have a decent selection of reasonably priced (for the times) ammo, and honest and informed staff. But: The present owner/boss has wrecked the place. 5-7 years ago (I've been shopping there since 1997), the ownership changed hands and now there are set percentages and margins for all transactions, and you can get nothing better than a minimally fair deal. If you want to sell or trade, go somewhere else. If you want to buy, the staff might be worth it, but don't expect anything better than a mediocre price upon which they won't budge. It's actually sad, and I'm looking for a new gun shop to call my own. read more

Updated review: I've been in a lot gun shops & in my opinion Ben's is a great place to browse & terrific place to buy from as well. I've purchased several pistols from them out of the case at good prices & I have also special ordered a couple of pistols like a Sig 380 - P238 Copperhead which was a awesome purchase! Very friendly guys, helpful & show me a lot of respect both over the phone & in person. Most recently I spoke with Rodney about trading in my Glock 17 for a M9 & he seemed pretty eager to assist me which is always nice. SIDE NOTE ****** They have a awesome layaway program!!!!! If they have the pistol / rifle in stock that you want, you can make your purchase & put down 20 - 30% & pay it off while the approval process is under way. A little easier on the wallet if you can make a few payments with-in 90 days. (not sure if they still offer layaway but it worked out really well for me for several purchases.) read more

I'm reluctant to shout this from the rooftops (because I want him to be available for ME should I need him again), but against my better judgment I'll tell you that Greg at Ben's loan is THE MAN if you've got a computer related issue. After much too much time spent searching this virus zombie apocalypse wasteland for a new laptop for school I stopped by Ben's and found exactly what I needed. Naturally there were a few bugs discovered once I got it home, but Greg reassured me that if he couldn't fix it I'd get a full refund. I'm happy and relieved to report that he fixed it in a surprisingly timely manner and my new laptop is working flawlessly. Then he went above and beyond and provided detailed instructions on how to fix the same issues should they reoccur. I highly recommend Ben's loan if you need...just about anything that's not food. My dad bought A NEW shot gun from Ben's (mossberg 500), and when he got home, he broke it down to clean and oil it. The thing had so much rust on the internal parts that it wasn't even funny. He brought it back, with receipt, and they REFUSED to take it back, saying that it was HIS fault because it was stored improperly...mind you he didn't have it for more then 4 hrs. They offered him $50.00 for it to trade for another. These guys are nothing but rip-off con-men. I would not do business with them even if they were the only gun shop for 5000 miles. Lucky Pinto's gun shop is right around the corner. They don't have a huge inventory, but can get you anything you want for 1/2 the price you would pay at Ben's. read more

Wound up turning around and leaving without so much as a hello. Not sure how the manager keeps his job unless he is also the owner. I will not be going back to Ben's loan. I stopped by Ben's over the weekend just to check it out. They are clearly knowledgeable and know what they have. I've been in a few pawn shops where you could get a great deal because they just didn't properly identify something in stock. That wasn't the case at Ben's. Their merchandise was labeled in detail, and to the best of my knowledge, the details were correct. That said, prices were competitive and they had some interesting older stuff. Nothing that I was looking for, so I can't comment on the buying experience. read more

The prices they offer for items and the prices they charge are ridiculous. I've looked at their selection of hand tools here before, and they charge almost new pricing for tools that are in pretty poor shape. I've got a bunch of extra tools that I've been wanting to get rid of because they are just taking up too much space and I'm not using them. Judging by the prices of items they have for sale, I figured I could sell them here and get a decent price. Boy was I wrong! The tools I brought in to sell were high quality hand tools, and in nearly new condition. Some I only used once or twice so they are as new as you can get. They are also high quality tools. An assortment of Knipex, Wiha, and Klein tools. The retail pricing for all the tools combined is about $950. Now, I did not expect to get anywhere near that price. I know they have to make money on them too. But the salesman, with a straight face, offered me $50 for the entire lot. $50? That was the most ridiculous thing I've heard in a long time. read more

I have bought from Bens and pawned for years. However, the last time I pawned a gun I was denied (A hassle in itself). The clerks at Bens at the time when I asked stated they didn't know what I was talking about when I asked for the numerical code the FBI had given them at denial. This is required to appeal. I do not think their clerks are that dumb and I should not have had to make additional contacts with Bens to get that number. Buyer (and pawner) beware read more

I went into Ben's on recommendation from my father. I've been shopping around for a 9mm and was trying to decide on two different brands. Out of all the places I've been I can say this was the worst experience I've ever had. Now, I'm sure if I'd been shopping for jewelry or a DVD I would have actually received assistance. The three men standing at the counter were so deep in a conversation about a new tattoo no one offered to help me. But, I waited patiently looking at there selection. I finally left when one of the men actually talked over me to offer assistance to a man who had just walked in. I would have understood being ignored if they were busy. I am compulsive by nature. When I started to really get into guitars I ended up with twelve before my wife at the time started to notice that there was something wrong. I didn't see anything wrong, and I wasn't using grocery money, or money for bill's. I just found what I wanted, and found a way to get it. I have really grown fond of guns. Thanks to the best gun salesman the world has ever known. A friend from work recommended Ben's, so I gave it a try even though its a few miles from home. I found some pieces I wanted right away, but my new wife isn't like the old one and she made me wait to do anything. I took the argument away from her by selling my prized guitar. I figured I could get a couple pocket guns with the proceeds. When I went back, the gun I wanted was gone. I hated driving there for nothing so I looked around and saw a gun that caught my eye. A beautiful 1911 copy, smaller, and a .380, not a 45. I thought my wife would like it. Everyone working had found opinions of it, so I bought it. When I got home my wife didn't like it at all. She felt it was too big, and heavy for her. I figured I would use it myself. I have a Glock 19, love it. But it is bulky. I decided I would look for a spare magazine, a holster, and info on the gun. I found out the company went out of business in '96. Plus, I can't find a spare magazine anywhere for it. So I called to see what kind of return policy they offered. Since I have only had it one week I thought maybe we might do a shop credit, or something...?? I could, if I am willing to pay the 20% restock and $40.00 for checking my C.W.P. Nope..!! Way to deal with new customers. Good thing you have old ones because I've learned my lesson. read more

I've been to many pawn shops and many gun shops. In the category of pawn shop, there isn't much to make these guys stand out. They have a fair amount of items and seem to have an OK price. 99% of the time I am there, it is to "browse" firearms. Since I've been referred to this shop, I have purchased 5 firearms in 5 years from them. Even if they aren't the BEST price in the country or on-line, they are very informed on not only their current stock on hand, but of other firearms and accessories that are available on the current market. The customer service here is very good. I am always greeted when I walk in, the employees know me by name, and there is absolutely NO pressure to purchase anything or try to oversell me whenever I'm in this shop. The only reason I don't give this shop a 5 star is that I feel their pistol display cabinets need to be replaced/repaired. While you are able to get an idea the quality of any used guns, you definately have to have them pull the gun out so you can view it up close and in the light. Now, the guys NEVER give me a look or hassel me when I (or anyone else) asks to look at a gun, but it would be nice to be able to better see these while still in the cabinets. Also, the glass is all scratched up and there are some cracks in it. I plan to continue to shop in this store for a very long time. Help support locally owned shops that provide great customer service. Both of these are dissapearing! read more

I recently acquired two guitars through Ben's Loans via trade and I have to say I could not be happier. I was in the market for a 12 string and they had a Martin in pristine condition for 349.00 which is essentially half the price of Guitar Center and again, its immaculate. Today I did another trade and acquired a beautiful Ibanez RG and once again their pricing was spot-on. Perhaps the most important aspect of both transactions was the professionalism of both staff members. They were knowledgeable, friendly and so helpful. Having not had any experience with a pawn shop, I was a bit apprehensive and concerned with the quality of the guitars and the stigma associated with pawn shops but after just a few moments talking with the staff members, I felt at ease. I would say it was like doing business with Guitar Center but honestly, the two gentleman that helped me were more knowledgeable than the Guitar Center employees and much more courteous and professional. I only wish I could remember names so as to properly credit them. My only complaint regarding all of it is why I had not visited them sooner. To answer my own question the reason I had not ventured in before was due to the aforementioned stigma of doing business with a pawn shop but here is a little secret: While Ben's Loans fits the criteria for a pawn shop/broker, they really seem more like a regular retail establishment. One last thing....while I was there, I overheard two other customers in the shop. One was in the process of selling something and the other making a payment on an item they had in pawn. In both situations the staff members were so nice and understanding. No judging or pretentious attitudes just good people helping others! Ben's Loans is top notch! read more
