I've been to this restaurant now 3 times recently, the latest with a party of 5. Regardless of whether I am dining alone or with others, the service has been excellent. The food has been terrific! I can't say enough about the pork chops, my mom would be angry if she heard me say that these were the best I've had. So far, all three of my entrees have been excellent. I have eaten at Benstein Grille three times. The food prepared by Chef Matt is very good. The waitstaff is friendly and attentive. The atmosphere is cozy, yet somewhat sophisticated. The down side of the experience was when the owner (I believe it was a Glenn), made rounds to the tables. My wife provided a compliment about our experiences. In his attempt to try to be humorous, he came off rude and insulting. And not only did we have to listen to his inept attempt at conversation once, but he returned two more times. We are pretty laid back, and we were surprised that the owner would be so ignorant to treat repeat customers as he did. My recommendation to him is to stay in the back office if you want the business to thrive. The experience has jaded our perception of the place. We won't be returning. Oh well, we are only one customer. Keep it up and the losses will add up over time if you don't change. Chef Matt, take your talents elsewhere! read more

This place is a hidden gem. I have a hard time finding a good go-to place to eat when I'm in the White Lake/Commerce/Waterford areas. Benstein Grille is pretty consistent and the spot I frequent most. It's similar to the Root and Matter of Taste pricing, but Benstein's menu is less hit or miss. Their portions are perfect and their drink selections have plenty to offer. I'm a BIG fan of their complimentary warm bread that they serve with this great olive oil concoction dip before your entrees are served. Recommendations: Lamb Chops - absolutely delicious & worth every penny. Burger - I am a burger snob, and I was pleasantly surprised by Benstein's burger, you will not be disappointed. Shrimp'n Grits - fantastic flavor but be warned, packs some heat, probably the best Shrimp'n Grits I've ever had. Honorable mentions: Carbonara Pasta and Reuben Sandwich. Just meh - Pinconning Fondue. Overall, great chill/urban cabin-chic atmosphere, easy parking, and exceptional service every time I've eaten there. My only gripe is their brunch offerings. Not enough selections, underwhelming and over priced, hopefully they will improve in that arena soon. read more

My husband and I have been here a few times, we live so close. We came tonite to use the $10 coupon that was sent via email for our wedding anniversary, yeah, we're so romantic..... LOL! Anyway, long story short, I ordered the crab and shrimp cakes, eh. I was not too impressed and I dont quite get why fries were the offered side with this meal, I suppose a nice veggie would have been a better choice, and my mixed berry mojito was refreshing, but I like to taste the alcohol that I'm paying for. My husband ordered the mystic carbonara pasta dish. He said it was good, but again, there was not a lot of enthusiasm in his voice. He did have 2 beers but you can't go wrong with a blue moon. The presentation of our meals was very nice. Our waiter was attentive. The atmospere is very nice. I was a bit disappointed to find out later in the evening via a Facebook post, that there was actually a specials of the day menu that was never offered to us. Tonight we were waited on by Jacob, he was great, very attentive. I have been there a handful of times and have never walked away disappointed. Went here for Sunday brunch. Despite having as many employees as customers, the service was extremely slow and the reward for accepting slow service was bad food. The bar had no bartender for the first 5-10 minutes we were there, but emerged from the kitchen when my wife and I ordered a drink and the waitress got him. As we sat next to the bar we overheard the bartender tell a waitress, "I don't give a f-ck". Very profesional. Employees seemed more concerned with their social conversations than their customers. The kitchen staff kept gravitating out of the kitchen to the drink station where they would stay for conversation with eachother. Bad look for the few customers in the restaurant. My wife got a chorizo hash dish and it had no chorizo in it! My Bloody Mary barely had vodka. My wife claims it had no vodka in it. The celery was bruised as well. My biscuits and gravy had no taste and had the texture of something that was in a steamer in the kitchen to keep it warm. The manager walked around and checked in on tables, but bypassed ours??? The young girl at the fromt door was the one positive as she held the door open for us, smiled and thanked us for coming. I would strongly suggest another local brunch destination like Root, Palate or even The Bar in Milford. read more

Overprices. The third visit and after having the burger the first two times, ordered a main item from the antrees, the pork chops. Not what was displayed on the web site. Ordered two and very small compared to the photo. Leaving needed to find a fast food restaurant to fill me up. After ordering, was asked if I wanted a bread basket. You figure that is a given. When it was presented, only one roll was present. NeedED to ask for more. At the end of the night a $40 dollar bill for one. Unless I am in need of a burger, will not go back. I had such high hopes for this place. After reading some reviews my mouth was watering and I could not get my wife in the car fast enough to get there. The atmosphere was very nice, open but yet still felt cozy with the lighting and wood selections for the decor. We ordered the crab & shrimp cake appetizer, it was ok but it was not better than the crab cakes you can buy in the Costco freezer section. Next my wife ordered the frita shrimp, it had potential except it was ice cold and lost all the appeal it could have been. She also had a side of sweet potato fries and they were soggy and limp. I had ordered the lobster & mac, from the reviews it was suppose to be loaded with lobster but it was actually the meat from just one small claw cut up into it. The chef had tried to make the noodles al dente but where actually under cooked and almost to the point of having a crunch to it. The roux of the lobster mac & cheese was very mealy in consistency and you could taste the the flour had not been cooked out properly. I was very very disappointed especially when you pay the kind of money for it and everything is a la carte. I did order a side of french fries and they were ok, but I have had better fries at a drive thru window. I feel like the chef has watched to many Diners, Drive Ins, & Dives before learning proper technique in cooking. Nice laid back atmosphere, friendly bartender. I got the ribeye, it was perfectly cooked and very flavorful. Mashed potatoes, green beans and bread on the side rounded out my meal perfectly. This place is NOISY, NOISY, NOISY. You can't hear the person sitting across from you. The noise level is increased because they play music which makes it even noisier. They turned a neighborhood bar into a nice place, but the high ceilings make the noise level amplified so much that you can't wait to get out of the place. Wear ear plugs if you go. The food was decent but way overpriced for what you get in return. No salad with the entrees, etc. The servers were attentive. They have unnecessary valet parking if you want it, but why would you? Overall it is not a place I would go back to again for a relaxing meal. There are many restaurants I can go to where I can have a much better meal and not feel like my eardrums are going to explode. It's a toss up between 3 and 4 stars. Why 3? It's still very loud. Sound baffles installed flat to the ceiling. It doesn't seem to help. Need soft surfaces and vertical panels to absorb and disperse sound. Music in the background adds to the high noise level. Why do u need to play music? We didn't get the dinner rolls, whereas other tables did. We had 1 entree and 2 sandwiches. The food was good. The regular salad's dressing was all sitting at the bottom. Order it on the side and pour it on yourself. I ordered the smaller beer but was charged the larger beer. Waiter fixed the bill. I do not know if I drank the larger beer. The glass looked like everyone else's. I will return... To try some of the other entrees/sandwiches... Just hope they can tone down the noise level somehow. read more

I went in really wanting to like this. I really did. Came in Sunday morning, approximately at noon. There was a party of 40 in the back area, but otherwise about 8 two tops, and a table of 10. They were half full. Our waitress through the whole ordeal was nice and extremely apologetic. She got our drinks and our order quickly at approximately 12:10pm. We finally got our food at 1:06pm. We watched as two different tables who came in after us (me and my girlfriend) decide the 30 minutes they'd been waiting was enough and left. The whole time, the place was never more than 60% capacity. There's appears to be sufficient waitstaff, and when I finally got my food 55 minutes later, it was good. However I cannot excuse how slow the kitchen was and they should be able to handle a part of 40, since it was probably a reservation in advance. Again, I really want to like this place, but I can't, based on this experience. read more

We stopped by the Grille tonight for the first time, it is 3 miles away from our home and we were looking for another nice place to dine. We were very impressed with the cleanliness, attention to detail, nice décor, big window views and the overall look of the place. On top of it we sat at the bar and had a wonderful dinner, starting with their unique Coke Wings, and then my wife had pasta with Salmon and I had the Brisket, all very well prepared and great service. I was excited to get home to write this review as I think we have a winner of a restaurant that is well trained, has good food, great décor and takes care of their customers. Ate dinner here for the first time. Had the lobster macaroni and cheese. It was excellent. Classic margarita bread was a very good appetizer. Very happy this place opened up. This restaurant is a place I know I can go to for great food and service. The dinners are always hot, great quality fresh food, desserts to die for and the zombie killer nectar is on tap that's become one of my favorite drinks. Finally made it back here w my hubby and kids and we enjoyed it. Because of the lack of places like it in that area, I expected it to be busier. Our meal was good, but started and ended with disappointing dishes. To start, the coca cola wings. Great flavor, maybe a bit sweet so i would add a hint of spice, but most importantly, these need to be crispy. No one wants to eat wings with flabby skin . The calamari was pretty good. Onion soup and the house salad were also good. My husband and i had the 2 napkin burger and picnic burger. Both were great. The fries were a bit greasy. I ordered my burger well done (I know, I know), but this does not mean burnt. A portion of it definitely had a hard burnt crust on it. Since all of their desserts are made in house, except one, and reasonably priced, we decided to get the molten carrot cake, which was awful. Usually, a molten cake needs to be ordered 20 min in advance so the center is warm and gooey. They dont ask you to preorder it, and this one clearly came out of the microwave. The cake was rubbery and dry, and the filling was a lumpy cream cheese something. We were not impressed by the flavor of it either. More of a spice cake than a carrot cake. Overall, we like this quality neighborhood place, and will definitely return. With a few tweaks, this could be a fantastic local joint. read more

Unfortunately after my second poor experience here I felt the need to rate them. I was very disappointed in the service, food and an owner. While waiting for our table the bartender was very rude, then as they brought out our food the waitress didn't even realize she hadn't brought my order, I had to flag her down. So as our party of 6 ate, I had to wait another 10 minutes to get my food. She blamed it on the kitchen, but I'm assuming she forgot to place my order. My second experience is what made me want to post a review. An owner actually argued with my friend that she must have something wrong with her taste buds because she didn't care for the sausage. She wasn't even asking for something to be done - we had already paid our bill, he asked us and she mentioned the sausage tasting a little weird and didn't eat it. A simple "I'm sorry you didn't like it" would've sufficed instead of trying to belittle her! read more

I'm not sure how this place has so many great reviews. The atmosphere is nice, they did a great job fixing the place up. However, I've given this place three or four tries, all months apart and I'm severely disappointed every time I waste my money here. The food is terrible and the service is worse! You would think that because you were spending more money on a meal that you would be treated better, but you're better off going to a Coney or at least a true high end restaurant with fresh food and excellent service.
