    Grilled Cheese
    Nixon V.

The place still had that mid-day hum when we walked in, like everyone was quietly negotiating their lunch break at the same time. I stopped by Berge's for a casual lunch, nothing ambitious, just something warm and easy. We ordered the grilled cheese, a turkey and avocado sandwich, and a cup of tomato soup. The grilled cheese was decent -- nicely toasted on the outside with a good golden crust, but the inside felt pretty standard, nothing especially rich or gooey to make it memorable. The turkey and avocado sandwich was fresh enough, with clean flavors and a soft roll, though it leaned a bit plain overall. The avocado added some creaminess, but the sandwich as a whole didn't quite stand out. The tomato soup was warm and smooth, comforting in that familiar way, though it tasted more like a reliable classic than something house-made with a distinct twist. Service was quick and efficient. Our food came out without much of a wait, and everything was handled smoothly. No extra frills, but no issues either. Overall, Berge's feels like a dependable lunch stop when you want something simple and fast, even if it's not especially memorable. It's the kind of place that works well for a no-fuss midday bite -- just maybe not the spot you'd go out of your way for.

Great food. Deli sandwiches are made to order and fresh. Owner is so nice. All the chefs have worked there for years. Great soup and many choices of sandwiches and drinks. They have a dessert freezer full of goodies. Not fancy just good food. Quick and easy. Nice to get it to go for a picnic etc. But interior is good to eat inside too.

My hiusband has been coming to Berge's since he was a kid. This family owned restaurant had been open since 1971. The restaurant is cute and decorated with nostalgia over the years. Service is counter service and the bring the food to your table. We got our food rather quickly. I had the avocado and turkey sandwich and a side of potato salad. My husband got the grilled roast beef sandwich in sourdough and tomato basil garlic bisque. All were delicious!

Took me awhile to try this spot out. It's a local spot known for their sandwiches and tomato soup. It's actually pretty good. Everything seemed fresh. But nothing really stood out to me.

Classic local favorite sandwich shop with the same comfortable throwback vibe as when it first came to the scene in 1972! I had the honor of having my order taken by the original patriarch at the counter, and she even asked if I needed a receipt. There's a reason Berge's has been around for over 50 years and the food did not disappoint. Enjoyed the classic tuna melt with grilled sour dough and my friend had the roast beef. The tomato bisque was also excellent. Some comfortable seating in a classic weathered venue. A great treat following our Angeles forest hike to the falls.

Found from glowing reviews on yelp so I came here mid visit to Descanso gardens. The shop was super simple, there is parking in the back and the door was open so you don't have to walk around and enter from the front. Toasted pastrami sandwich - So good. They weigh out the pastrami and give it a good sear before throwing it on the sandwich. You get so much more flavour from doing that. The bread was toasted well and every was so good together! Would recommend! Avo roast beef sandwich - Slightly different from their famous avocado turkey sando. Avocado was super refreshing and they had the right amount of mayo to keep the flavours together. Roast beef stuck out a bit, so I would probably go back to the turkey to keep the balance.

Berge's is old-school in the best way. Wood paneling, cozy vibe, nothing fancy.Just solid sandwiches done right. I tried the grilled artichoke sandwich (on what I think was buttery sourdough) and it was crispy, gooey, flavorful, and it even held up after I took it to the park to eat. The grilled artichokes were soft and tasty, the cheese melted just right, and paired with jalapeño chips it was the perfect $10 lunch. What really stood out though was the service. nstead of just calling my name, they walked over and personally handed me my order. A small detail, but honestly you don't see that much anymore and it made the experience feel that much better. Definitely a spot worth stopping into if you're in La Cañada.

A small-town treasure. Great sandwiches (Haven't gotten a go-to yet, but someday I'll nail it down) and the tomato bisque is next-level.
