It's airport food. That about sums it up. But I worry that I am being too generous, there is decent airport food. This wasn't it. The pizza was not very good, and that's hard to say about pizza. Even mediocre pizza is decent. This wasn't even that good. So if "below mediocre human fuel" is what you need, this will give you some calories to burn. That's about as fair as one can be. We had a layover at the Chicago O'Hara Airport and decided to grab a bite to eat. We ordered the turkey blt sandwich and the Nashville hot sandwich. The turkey was so fresh and tasted like a fresh Thanksgiving turkey. It was absolutely delicious! Our Nashville hot fried chicken sandwich was fresh and oh so delicious! On my last visit I brought home a couple of corned beef sammies. The corned beef was excellent but the bread was hard and falling apart and the portion was small by anyone's standards. It made me judge why I had spent airport money instead of going to one of better delis near home. Very disappointed on this visit. Could this terminal be more sad? There are zero options :( Of course we had to come to Berghoff's it's the ONLY place to get drinks. Of course, it was completely full with people lining the walls and every last inch of the place, because IT"S THE ONLY OPTION here. We snagged stools at a communal table and had some drinks - eventually we had a little grub from next door. It was borderline satisfactory - but if you drink enough, anything taste ok. It'll hold you over on your flight home and is better than grabbing snacks and beverages from the magazine stand. The line was long, that's ok, I didn't mind. But it was also inefficient. The food tasted good BUT they use cheap oil. I could smell the oil and also see the plastic bottle and it upset my stomach. My husband found a hair in his omlette. The menu is the same 5 items in different mixtures. So, if you don't like Monterey Jack, you are out of luck my friend. The chefs cook in front of you. I can totally imagine that other places are less sanitary, but I can't see it so perhaps it was more disgusting to me that they kept using the same damp, dirty looking cloth to wipe down the make area repeatedly. I purposely choose a wrap (thinking I had less of a chance to meet my maker due to the make table). I would have gone elsewhere but there are limited options in T1 and I'd already waited 15 minutes. Landed at ORD and needed some dinner. I had about an hour and after making my way to the C Concourse, I found Berghoff to be close to my next departure gate. Place looked packed, must be a good sign that either the food was good, the beer was good, or there were attractive stewardesses close by. As airport food goes this place was pretty good. They have house beers, I had a pale ale. I needed a beer, I got a beer...that worked out pretty nice. I ordered a Turkey and Bacon Panini and added sauerkraut. They make the food pretty darn quick, the turkey was even fresh carved. The line to pay didnt' move all that fast, as I was stuck holding my food for about 8-10 minutes whilst they worked out an issue...just made me hungrier. My co-workers and I found some hi-top seats together, and destroyed our food. I ate so fast I was still "hungry" so I got an order of fries...yeah for greasy feeling tummy on another 4hr flight!! All-in-all...decent food. Easy to find. Pretty reasonably prices (sandwich, fries, and a beer was about $22). ENJOY!!! read more

Oh to land in a huge airport and not suffer the ails of fast food! With time to kill waiting for my siblings to land, my mom and I trekked to concourse C to enjoy a hot sandwich from Berghoff's. I was happy to eat something other than Tortas Frontera since that's my usual spot for food at O'Hare. Order at the counter, and they prep it in front of you. I went for a grilled sandwich: roast beef on sourdough with provolone. I had horseradish on one side and spicy mustard on the other. Horseradish was the best combo! Even with a line, I waited less than 10 minutes for a meal under $10. It comes with a pickle on the side, which tasted a little weird -- lacking vinegar? You can take your sando to-go or sit in the bar area, which had a decent amount of seats available to eat your meal and enjoy a cold brew. We sat at the bar and had a pint of the Berghoff Dortmunder Lager. Two pints set me back ~$15. I'll definitely be back on my all too frequent stops through O'Hare. It's in Terminal 1, Concourse C by gates 25 and 26. read more

The scene: Red-eye into O'Hare from Sea-Tac at 5:00AM. Layover of 2 hours. Need grub, given the Ginza sushi has been processed long ago. Didn't want Starbucks muffin. Berghoff's is right by my gate. They serve big breakfast sandwiches and burritos. I had the Spanish Croissant Sandwich, basically an omelette with cheese and diced veggies in a croissant. Big, fresh and tasty. If you're in O'Hare terminal C (near C25) with a craving for a "good" breakfast, this place is the answer. read more

I'm torn - I had a sandwich here a couple of years ago that was pretty good - on my visit last week I had a wrap that was not so good. They have a somewhat captive audience as there are limited options at this end of the terminal. When we got there last week the bar was beyond packed. It's a tight space already with almost no room for luggage, so we waited for some folks to leave and were lucky enough after a while to get one of the smaller tables. The bartender was very good - very busy, but moved up and down the bar serving those sitting at the bar and the throngs trying to wedge in to place an order. After a bit I walked over to the other side to order a couple of wraps. My wife got the chicken fajita, which she said was OK - pretty much what she expected. I got the buffalo chicken. Its redeeming quality was it had pretty plump pieces of chicken so if I'd ordered a plain chicken wrap it would have been OK. There was little buffalo flavor and I think I saw a few sprinkles of the advertised blue cheese, but they were few and far between. Sandwiches are made to order, so I'd suggest sticking with the sliced sandwiches that are made out front vs. the wraps...or if you know you're going to be at this end of Concourse C, maybe grab something on your way. read more

Well, it's not Tortas Fronteras...... That sad fact aside, Berghoff is "better than expected" for airport food. My turkey sandwich was hot & hand carved from something that may once actually been part of a turkey. The meat was moist and tasty and for about $8, I was pretty happy with it. The people working the deli counter were nice and my wait was short, even at noon. Bonus for having Perrier as an option. I liked Berghoff - it's probably the best spot in the C gates. (Unrelated but....can Rick Bayless just buy up all the OHare food spaces & make them all Tortas Fronteras? In a time of pandemic you would think places would show hospitality and good service. I understand this restaurant is located in the airport, however when you order a sandwich from a place and they ask you if you would like cheese they should tell you there's an up charge for it. I have attached a picture of the sandwich. It is a turkey BLT with a pickle for a side. This sandwich cost $14. It's not a sub or a large sandwich at all. When I mentioned the size of the sandwich compared to the price they did not care. After waking up at 4AM to catch an early-morning flight, knowing that gates to the West Coast will be all the way in Concourse C, remembering there is a Starbucks right there and at least I'll get my joe on before boarding, can you guess my disappointment when the Starbucks isn't open at 6:30AM? The only recourse was standing in the long line at Berghoff Cafe because I'm sure it was the only recourse for many others boarding 4-hour flights to various cities in the West Coast (except for those boarding for Vegas, of course, who probably had alternative needs other than coffee). There was only 1 person behind the food-counter, attending to a line of 25 people that only kept growing, and another at the cash-counter, who kept vanishing for long periods of time -- I'm guessing he was doubling up as the cook in the kitchen too. I got my toast (because they only had cinnamon raisin and plain bagels) and latte (which took quite some time to prepare) -- neither were very good. The general sense of grumbling, chaos and confusion didn't start my day off too well! I would give it 2 stars, but at least they were open to serve me my caffeine at that hour and so I added a 3rd! read more

This is one of the two best places at O'Hare to eat (the other being Tortas Frontera). But I actually prefer this one, because it smacks of those Chicago German flavors that I love so much. The Berghoff's Cafe O'Hare has a very limited menu, and some of the items are not as good as others, mostly because they do not have a very big fresh kitchen, and things like lettuce can get wilted easily as the day wears on. So... go somewhere else if you are looking for a salad. Pizza may also be something to avoid here as it is most likely prepared elsewhere and frozen. Top items: the corned beef sandwich, the Ruben, the grilled Bratwurst (if it is still on the menu), and upon occasion, the roast beef dip (I have had good ones, and not so good ones). If you are having an alcohol drink, then Berghoff's has its own brand of very tasty beer (it actually began over a hundred years ago as a brewery), or the Bloody Marys, which are also good. For soft drinks, Berghoff's also makes its own root beer that is delicious. The lines here are long and there are very few tables. That's the biggest downside. read more

Ordered a glass of wine and constantly had people 3 deep behind us trying to order due to the lack of table service. Drinks were spilled..the bar back couldn't care less. $6.30 (after taxes) for an A-OK croissant breakfast sandwich, which included eggs, a slice of cheese, and either a sausage patty or bacon. I got my sandwich to-go, and they kindly sliced it in half. Unfortunately, it was incredibly hard to pick up without half of the ingredients dropping out! While it filled my belly on this particularly cold morning, I boarded my flight feeling weighed down by the unhealthiness of what I had just consumed. In retrospect, I probably should've gotten a hot omelette! I might try their sandwiches if I'm ever back again on a layover, but I probably won't be back for breakfast again. Very juicy and tender and they piled on the ham and cheese too. The downside was that they did not include pickles or mustard ON the sandwich, which is what makes a Cuban, in my opinion. They gave me mustard packets but I couldn't even open them. The bun also wasn't quite right. It was a large onion bun. My choice was based on the smells and aroma in the air, which unfortunately didn't meet the expectations of my taste buds. Overall the meat on the sandwich were dried out and lack flavor. I will make it a point to walk my beehind to this establishment of I have time flying thru and suggest you all give it a 'go'. The sandwhiches here are da b o m. The Cuban is my #1 choice, but they run out of meat so fast sometimes you have to wait for the fresh pork to come out. Not much added and it def doesnt need anything outside of the way it comes. I inhaled it. #2 choice is the Rueban with the warm and tender corned beef. It's clearly a spin off famous NY Ruebans from the olden days. They've nailed it! It's to die for. It needs nothing added either. Trust me on this. The flavor is divine on its own. I swear to you, the sandwhiches are bar non the best I've ever had. Service was good too. These guys know what they're doing. Sometimes the line is long, but it moves so give yourself enough time between flights and go here. I really don't think you'll be disappointed. Being in the ORD and united terminal, it is pretty difficult to get any satisfaction sound (no offense, but pretty of love and hate to United, but overall a 2-star airline give numerous delay/cancelation experienced). This place actually provide a heal place while waiting for a place change when go back home. Air plane was experienced with some issue and switched to next available. With help of some Draft pale ale from here, it really help to ease the nerves, not very hobbie. I haven't gets my chance to try their selection of sandwich and wraps, maybe next time. read more

The intoxicating smell of their pizza will reel you in like the aroma hand in old timey cartoons, but tis the roast beef Panini you need to order. I'm telling you now, the sandwich ain't no joke. Thick sliced brisket, almost like Italian/Chicago beef style, topped with caramelized onions, provolone cheese and then heated up. Just got off a terrible, long, delayed flight, so we got a food voucher thanks to United. A whole $10!!! Oh, boy!!! So we come here and order probably the worst pizzas I've ever had. You think it's Chicago, so they can do better. Hilarious thing is I hear some guy at the bar talking to the bartender about how pizza in Denver sucks...but in Chicago it's the best! This is a great bar at O'Hare. The sandwich shop is connected to the bar. We did not eat there, just had some drinks. Surprising it was like 'Cheer's' on TV. Everyone was talking with each other and engaging us in there conversations as well. The lay over I have ever had. People from all over the country talking sports, politics, and best vacation spots. I had the roast beef sandwich with Swiss cheese on rye bread. The bread was the cheap mass-produced sandwich style, not real rye bread, which was a disappointment. The roast beef, however, was only one notch above edible. Well-done is one thing, but this was over-done, dry, and utterly tasteless. I was there at about 11:00 in the morning, before there was any great lunch rush, so I expected freshness. I didn't get it. I'd have been better off with the packaged pizza.
