We accompanied our friend, a Beringer club member, for a visit to the winery. The winery is in a beautiful estate. After a walk around the beautiful grounds, it was time for some wine tasting. Our first stop tasting was in The Old Winery Tasting Room. The wines here are light-bodied and more on the sweeter side. Think White Zinfandels and Moscatos of various blends. We made a tour and tasting reservation for 10:30am. It was a fairly larger group, but we got to experience everything in its entirety very well. The tour started with a history of the Beringer family and the property. We were then guided into a part of the caves where they provided us a barrel tasting. Afterwards we were led to the house where we had sit down tasting paired with cheese and dried fruit and tasted 3 or 4 wines, I believe. Afterwards we were guided into the front of the house where we could partake in another tasting - more of the reserve wines - and also to walk through the gift shops. The second floor of the property is off limits unless you reserved a private party or tasting for a group. The reserve wine tasting was optional. They also have a wine club, but we didn't participate since we can get many Beringer wines at home. It is definitely a winery worth visiting at least once when in Napa. Highly recommend going to the Culinary Institute afterwards for lunch before going to the next winery since its next door to Beringer's. read more

On this visit to Beringer's I was looking forward to a tasting in the Reserve room. Having just been to Domaine Carneros, I had really high expectations. The reserve tasting included my choice of 3 wines...out of a somewhat limited selection of 6 wines. I went with the Reserve Chardonnay, Private Reserve Cabernet and their dessert wine. While I liked all 3 wines, I was a bit disappointed by the 'pour' on all 3. I would rather pay a bit more and be able to do a substantive tasting of the three wines. In contrast, Domaine Carneros provided a generous pour and one could make an event of the tasting by doing a cheese or smoked salmon pairing. Overall, I really love Beringer wines. However, I will need to consider whether it's worth the trip the next I'm in the area. read more

I don't see why this place has a low rating. The grounds are gorgeous and the mansion has antique charm to it. And the wines are so reasonably priced! Beringer White zin is my go to at weddings since most receptions serve it. I went to get a glass of that and ended up with a couple bottles of special wines they only sell there. Summary: A cheap Mickey Mouse gimmick. Cute looking venue that lost all its sense of authenticity in their eagerness to gain tourism. I truly believe this venue has the capacity to be nice but at this point, it's a Mickey Mouse installment best for extreme novice wine tasters looking to be lightly entertained -- decent for kids as well. I don't know about the rest of the activities available but the 'Cave Tour' is NOT worth it. You learn nothing about how wine is made but rather, are prisoners to hearing about the monotonous details of the historical brand conveyances. Giving four stars to my first experience at Beringer--they are open during shelter-in-place and you can make reservations online. I would recommend the tasting ($25) that is set outside and allows you to try 3 of 6 wines available. All of the wines are exclusive to the winery! The staff was great with checking us in, explaining some new guidelines due to Covid-19, providing hand sanitizer, wearing masks, etc. HOWEVER I have to say I was very disappointed in the food options. We were told beforehand that sandwiches and charcuterie boards would be available--when we sat down we asked for a food menu but the server instead just named the options. We chose to get a $30 charcuterie plate and WOW we were so disappointed. Such a waste of money--the board was not on a board but instead was in a plastic container. It had very little cheese, nuts, and crackers in it. With tax and tip this came out to be $38!! You can see in my picture how small and sad it was. I will say I understand that due to these times menus will be more limited and what not, but I would have greatly appreciated knowing that the cheese board was pre packaged in plastic. So I am a bit biased when it comes to Beringer since my dad has been working here for over 30 years and this is kinda where I grew up. All wines whether red, white, rose, sparkling, sweets, or reserved are amazing and always have been. Though there are plenty of trendy wineries all over the valley you cannot go wrong with the classics especially this one. Ambiance: This is more of your classic Napa Valley winery (I mean come on it was one of the first) A beautiful property that provides a perfect backdrop for any wine tasting afternoon. Beringer has some beautiful grounds. We came here for a quick cave tour and then went to another house on the property to enjoy dinner. Before dinner, we were able to enjoy wines and some passed apps. The Beringer estate is really relaxing and large so our dinner area was very private. The tour guide said they host 10 weddings a year there too. Dinner was great, we had a 3 course meal with 3 wine pairings to match. The service was great, wine was constantly being refilled and the food was good. We had a tandoori salmon starter which was really tasty and a large portion for a starter. Then we were given the choice of steak or a vegetarian option. Since I don't eat steak, I opted for the veggie, Portabello Mushrooms and a ton of other veggies from their garden!! I am not vegetarian but I do love any veggie option and this one tasted REALLY good! There was a mix of eggplant, heirloom tomatoes, a grain that looked like farrow.. overall so yummy. For dessert we got a chocolate mousse and some cookies. Not my favorite dessert choice but still good. The chef also came out at the end to great all of us. Overall, everyone in our group enjoyed dinner; however, one disadvantage is the chef will only allow the ENTIRE party to choose 1 veggie option or 1 meat option. Meaning prior to our visit, as a group, 14 us had to make the decision to either eat the veggie option or narrow down their different meat options (lamb, pork, chicken, beef) to 1 option for everyone to eat. It isn't a very flexible system because you are forced into picking 1 of 2 meal choices. I ended up very happy with my choice but this could be a struggle for a larger group. My friends and I were in Napa for some wine tasting Labor Day weekend and decided to sign up for the Legacy Cave Tour since it was our first time at Beringer. The tour lasted about 30 minutes and included 3 tastings. Our tour guide John Henry was amazing! Best part of the tour. He was funny, knowledgeable, and attentive to everyone in the group. He had no trouble answering all our questions and even stayed behind after to help us choose a wine for our friend. The tour itself was a bit disappointing. We walked a short distance passing by some wine barrels as we were educated about Beringer history. Learning about the history was cool but I guess I expected to see more or learn more about the area we were walking through? We mostly just looked at photos or tasted wine. After almost being scoffed at by the lady at Clos Pagase for not having reservations, Beringer offered walk-in wine cave tours. Exactly what we wanted! The grounds are enveloped by beautiful, lush greenery and florals. We made it just in time for the last cave tour of the day. It was easygoing with three different wines progressing from outside, inside the cave, then near their gift shop. We ended up staying after the tour for a chocolate-wine tasting. The grounds here are beautiful, but Napa is a beautiful place in general, so you'd expect that. We had a buy 1 get 1 free tasting and we chose to taste in the mansion. It's $25 a tasting, which is ridiculous, especially considering their wines. I was unimpressed with every wine we tried. They all tasted watered down, and I honestly think they put something in that wine because when I left I felt deeply depressed, and my boyfriend also said he felt strange. We've gone wine tasting plenty of other times, but this one just didn't sit right with us. I give it a 2 star review because the lady providing our taste was polite and friendly, and the mansion itself was pretty awesome, but we came to Napa to have good wine, not cheap two buck chuck you can get at Trader Joe's (which is actually better than the wines here!) I came here 4 years ago and got the tour package. I'd say if you stop here, skip the tasting and just do the tour. read more

First of all, let me take this opportunity to say that people who only give 1 or 2 stars solely because they "don't like the wine" are straight up imbeciles. Wines are like friends. You have some you really, really like and others that you can tolerate but are just more of an acquaintance. That does not make them bad people. Just not your taste. I think that a review should be based upon the totality of the experience. So, that having been said: the grounds are indeed beautiful. The main house is incredible and the story of Jacob and Fredrick Beringer is interesting. Why is it important to know that when Frederick moved over from Germany at Jacob's request he did so but made Jacob move his house over some 200 feet so he could have a lavish home built? Because it is part of the history of the vineyard and tells you about the dynamics of the brothers. The house contains some 40 or so stained glass windows throughout the house. Each room's windows are thematic and thus, tell the story or give an impression as to what took place in that room. Kitchen, library, etc. They are insured for some $20,000,000 alone. Yes, just the windows. Are they that impressive? Youbetcha! The wine caves are very cool. The sport where Julia Child cooked historically relevant to foodies. I enjoyed the wines (but for the Nightengale dessert wine - too sweet for me). But I really enjoyed our guide, Michael. He was just a really nice guy who took the time to answer our questions and pretend like he was hearing those questions for the very first time. This tour was a delight. This is the only place that i took a tour with so far. $25 for a complementary wine glass, informative tour, and various tastings of whites/reds/mixes. The tour was definitely informative since I've never been.. The underground barrels and the cool interior was an amazing experience.. Who would of thought this is how people make wine? It makes you feel like you are in a dark cave.. a dark cave filled with fermented juices getting ready for us wine drinkers to taste.. This is another touristic place indeed.. The estate is beautiful and green and spacious.. The Houses are too cute..There is a spot where it tells you the history of Beringer brothers... The tasting rooms are small indeed but AC'ed up.. They do have spots to line up for the tour times in the front of the gift shop/tasting room area... During nice weathers, they bring out the tasting bar to the front so you can enjoy the sunny weather while sitting and enjoying the wines/food accompanying you. read more

Then we were in the main house and restaurant and the girl goes like "folks, I'm going to ask you to leave". I get it. I know Covid and stuff, but we felt very unwelcome. Edited: We booked the Legacy Cave tour after confirming that they were okay with kids. When we asked our tour guide if we could bring a stroller on the tour, his response was "Yes, but remember that there are other people on the tour and we want it to be fun for everybody". This was uncalled for, our kids were not disruptive to begin with. We hung back and kept them well away from the rest of the tour group after his comment. There was yet more more unpleasantness along the way. We provided our feedback to management on our way out. The front desk manager was very apologetic / empathetic and refunded our entry on the spot. This was appreciated. They also offered us a bottle of wine and a free return visit (we appreciated the gesture, but declined both). We briefly saw a different tour guide on the 4:00 PM tour take a very positive approach to engaging the kids (made us so wish that we had joined that tour instead), so I am going to assume that we just pulled the short straw with our guide. The original 1-star review, posted immediately after the tour, reflected our view of the tour based on our experience. I'm upping my review to 3-stars, since the management did whatever they could to set things right after the fact, including outreach on Yelp in response to the original review. read more

Before going on this tour I didn't know anything about wine - only that red goes with beef and white with fish and that I quite like riesling and sauterne but hate chardonnay and merlot. Walking out of this tour and tasting, a mere $20 lighter in the pocket, I now know 10x more about wine, realized I like certain cabernets, and had a blast chuckling at our tour guide's quips. A gruff man who was a serious wine collector I felt at ease with my lack of knowledge as he cracked jokes about all the gadgets and gizmos people use to make their wine collections look impressive when all you need is a wine glass and a means to pull the cork to actually know wine. Four large pours, plenty of knowledge without being overwhelming for our small group, and a glorious property I only wish we could have seen more of where the wine was actually made (across the street) than the museum-esque tour we receieved. Apparently they filmed some aspect of a Walk in the Clouds here which allowed our guide to crack jokes about Keanu - for me, that is a plus. :-) Plenty of discount bottles, 20% off 4 bottles, and a cool shipping program plus a company with a lot of history. read more

Their wine tour at $25 felt a little costly, particularly when none of us in the group liked the wines we tasted. However that comes with $20 alternate tasting for 2, where we liked the wines better. Be at the wine tasting start point at least 10 minutes early. We had to go on a tour at a later time as we were right on time and looks like the tour started 5 minutes early. We thought we were the only ones on the tour at that moment. Their dessert wines are pretty good. We purchased bottles of pink moscato, red moscato, sparkling red/pink moscato. At $8 - 30% (for purchasing 3 bottles), it seemed super cheap. Our group did not like their reds (cabaret sauvignon, zinfadel) : a little too reddish for our taste. Their whites were also okay (chardonnay). Their buildings are quite photographic even in December. We liked their gift shop as well. read more

We were hesitant about booking a "big name" winery for a tasting but couldn't resist visiting a historical landmark. Tastings are held on the veranda of the Rhine house, built in 1886. There were plenty of photo opps while we waited for the host to seat us; the grounds are truly beautiful in an old world sort of way. When we were seated at a table by the fountain at the front of the Rhine house and not on the veranda, we asked our waiter if we could wait for a seat on the veranda instead since that was what we booked. They were clearly busy with a number of tastings and we didn't mind waiting a bit. Our waiter apologized and even showed us a few options for tables before they seated us. Yes, we waited for nearly 40 minutes to get the table we preferred but the waiter and manager were so generous and apologetic that we really didn't mind and really appreciated their hospitality. They even gave us a complimentary charcuterie box and a bonus tasting of a reserve wine! The service was wonderful and made our experience in St Helena all the better. read more

What a classy, picturesque, historic property! Lush green gardens surround a little castle called Rhine House. Bless their hearts for providing a kid-friendly experience. We were hard pressed to find a winery that would allow kids and we got a last minute booking for the "A stroll around Beringer with a glass of wine" tour. This is the only experience which kids are admitted to and sure enough there were many families with kids lined up. The castle and grounds are really something and truly worth a "tour". At $20 per adult at $10 per kid, it's a wallet friendly deal. We were given a choice of a few wines to stroll around with. I tried the "2016 Beringer Brothers Bourbon Barrel Aged" Chardonnay and it was good. For $20 per bottle, it's a pretty good deal. My husband tried the "Beringer Pinot Noir Founders' Estate" and that was decent too, I found out later its very inexpensive under $10 per bottle. They also gave a grape juice sachet to my son so he got something to sip on as well. They have full fledged tasting options in outdoor space and on their very smart looking patio. I'm determined to go back some time soon and enjoy the full Beringer experience! read more

We have a groups of 6 people, only 4 did the tasting. We were rudely treated by a server called Daniel. Because one of our designated driver sniffed the wine , instead of giving us the information but rudely charged us an extra tasting. He didn't provide any valuable information about the wine or anything but lowered the standard of customer service. It was the worst winery experience in Napa valley considering Beringer being a historical vineyard. It was a jaw dropping response from the server and horrible manner in such a business. We will never come back to this winery again and will absolutely not recommend this to everyone who wants a knowledgeable and welcoming experience. It is sad to see how it went down hill because of this one person. The company should consider removing this specific personnel if they want to keep its image in the public. What a shame. On top of that, the wines are less than mediocre. Worst experiences of all the wineries, that tasting costs more than $50 per person. read more

We were given a bar table which was in the same room as their gift shop and there is no sight of vineyard while one drinks wine here. The person serving wines gave us no information on the drinks he served and did not look passionate. He would only answer when we questioned. Our past wine tasting tours with other wineries have been very informative. Caves were nice but would have been better if someone explained the history instead of us just taking a stroll around. We didn't even get to see insides of the main house. Then why charge so high. I would not recommend this wine tasting to anyone. read more

I have to admit, I was not looking forward to this place. I went because my mother-in-law wanted to take the tour. The only Beringer experience I had ever had was their grocery store staple white zin, which I found to be cheap and kinda gross. However.... We had a wonderful tour guide (His name was similar to Alfonso - I am horrible with names) and we had a pretty small group. We got to take our time and linger around the tour areas, and our guide answered all of our questions and let us joke around and have fun with him. We got to taste a little 2012 Cab from the barrel, which was better than expected, being a barrel wine. We then were led into a dining area where we got to try 3 additional wines (a chard, a cab, and their Nightengale dessert wine) while pairing with different foods (cheese, salty cracker, lemon cake, dried cranberries) to explore the wine on its own as well as paired with different flavors. It was such a nice learning experience! I have to admit, I'm a huge fan of Sauternes, and tasting the Nightengale was very pleasantly surprising to me, as it was a very close alternative. They created their own style of the mold used in the noble rot process and made their own sauterne-style wine. Impressive! read more
