WHAT HAPPY DRUG ARE Y'ALL ON? This place used to be okay. I have been a regular customer for years. But today, the guy manning the shredder was rude beyond belief. He went out of his way to treat me with sneering contempt. It was totally out of the blue; I had just walked in and hadn't said or done anything that could justify such incivility. Then a friend told me she was in there three days ago and had the exact same experience: Both the shredder guy and the woman in the front office gave her a truckload of mean attitude. It's hard to fathom all these glowing reviews, unless Mr. Rude just came on board or they're pumping some weird happy potion into the air. Whatever, this ain't the only shredding place around. I just found a great company up in Richmond, behind the Target store off McDonald, where they are very professional and respectful. I went here for the first time yesterday after reading so many positive reviews. They were fine overall and I'll go back, but I learned 2 important lessons for my next visit. 1. I brought in 2.5 liquor boxes full of papers. Each box was about half the size of a banker's box. I was charged for 3 banker's boxes (probably double what I should have been charged had they charged by volume). Next time I will be sure to actually use banker's boxes so it's more economical. 2. I have a bad back and there was no one to help unload boxes from my car. Luckily my brother was with me and could help. read more

Fast and easy service. Pulled up, was directed to use one of their push carts to help unload and within minutes, my documents were being shredding in front of me on the large conveyer belt. In the 10 minutes I was there, five more people arrived to have things shredded so it's clearly a popular spot. I was also able to get two old cellphones destroyed as well. It probably sounds weird to say that I love this place, but I do. We no longer have to do the onerous task of shredding our own documents. You know those pesky credit card offers you get in the mail, the bills that have your name and account info on them, and etc.! Every couple of months or so, we'll drop off our shred pile, see them get shredded right before our eyes, and less than a couple of minutes later, we're outta there! So fast and convenient! A "box" of stuff costs $7. The staff member responsible for putting your stuff in their industrial shredder will let you know the equivalence of your stuff in boxes. We usually have at least a box or so. My pile today was equal to a box and a half, so I paid $10.50. We found out about this place through the sign on their building. I'd always see it when we're driving on I-80 (between the University Ave and Gilman exit). They can also destroy disc drives for you if needed. After declining my mother-in-law's offer to shred it for me at home (15 years of love letters, no thank you!) I started to look for a shredding service. I found services that would come to your home, pick up your gazillion boxes, and charge you $75 per visit plus a fee per box. What I needed was The Shredder Store, alternately known as Automatic Response Systems in Berkeley. They are visible from the freeway, on Eastshore. Drive around to their side entrance, and they will unload your box(es) for you. They let you watch as they run all your stuff through a machine that looks like a cross between a TSA baggage screening machine and a wood chipper, and charge you $10 per box. Easy peasy. They sell shredders and give you bins to keep in your home and stuff, but all I needed was one box shredded, and they were perfect for that! read more

another very RARE 5star experience.... only cause I've had sooo many old bill and other useless papers that were building up and was becoming a fire hazard. DUDE seriously. This place is rad. Loved the entire experience. Pull up (nice guy helps). Walk in (nice guy puts the boxes on the conveyer and the stuff shreds in a dramatic and fantastic way). Follow obvious path to cashier (pass a beverage fridge with yummy stuff, grab one). Pay totally reasonable price (super nice guy engages with me about the typewriter collection). Only bummer was a gal (one of the owners, managers?) who got fired up when I asked a question about partnerships with businesses that offer digitizing services - as in 'hey, they'll digitize that vhs tape and then you'll destroy it'. In my mind, cool idea! She got very defensive and it got awkward. I didn't even get a chance to use this service due to its unsatisfactory/non-existent responses to both emails and voicemail messages. I did speak with someone twice, the first time a young lady told me the company could deliver a bin to my home but when I called to schedule the delivery she told me they aren't delivering them. Asked when they would resume delivering and she said check back. I asked when I should check back and she didn't know. I then asked if she had any idea when they would resume delivery but she didn't know that either. Very frustrating but I'm sure I can find another shredding service.
