I've used this resource more than a dozen times, and I never hesitate to recommend this place to anyone. Primarily, I use this place for shredding documents, folders, and old checkbooks. It definitely gives me peace of mind to watch things turn into confetti right before my very eyes. Additionally, I've used their hard drive destruction service, small appliance and computer recycling, and if memory serves we took an old television there back when we still had a full box tv. Whenever I've had to pay for a service I've always felt like the price was more than fair. Over the years I've seen several workers come and go, and they collectively have been welcoming, quick, helpful and reliable. After years of solid service they absolutely deserve five stars. This is my second time coming to Berkeley Shreds. I arrived on a Friday @ 2:30 (they close @ 3:00). I had 4 bankers boxes and cost was $40 ($10/box). I liked that they have their own parking lot, they have push carts for you to use and you can watch them shred your sensitive papers. This place Rocks! read more

This place was awesome, pulled in a few minutes after 8:00 am, we were the first people there and the dude was super helpful. Took several boxes of papers, several hard drives, and a laptop which ended up being about $40. We had a handful of cellphones but since we were no longer worried about any of the data on them, they didn't need to be shredded so he offered to take them to over to electronic waste disposal, apparently they go over there frequently anyway. Looking around nothing is their first rodeo: Hard drives, documents, electronics can all be handled here. They also work out competitive rates as well. Warning: Do not order the seal 'n shred bags. I ordered four for delivery and they never came. I have emailed the company and received no response. I telephoned each of their phone numbers and left voicemail messages to follow up; again, no response. Today, I emailed one last time. I also tried to telephone and leave more voicemail messages, but today it was not possible to leave a voicemail message at either number. At this point it looks as though my only recourse is to cancel the payment and complain through my credit card company. Update: After I posted this review, the company issued me a refund with a note stating that the items had been on back order. I wish they had communicated this to me. My prior experience with the company has been good and I will use them again in person, but I am leery about their communications systems. read more

Goodby papers! What a pleasure to watch boxes of stuff to destroy go on a belt and see it come out the other end in pieces. Shredding paper, a few pieces at a time, is tedious and noisy work. We decided that we would just bag up everything that even looked like it should be shredded and bring all of it here. It was a great decision. Wow love this place!!! So fast and so easy! I brought in some boxes full of old bills and sensitive documents for shredding. Drove up early in the morning, they took the boxes for me, I followed them inside and watched the guy empty out the contents onto a conveyer belt and some metal teeth chomped on them and spat them out into pieces. I've had a bunch of mail, paper bank statements, credit card offers, etc. accumulated in the past few years. I've recently moved and had a small shopping bag of paper to be shredded. Very easy process, it's shredded in front of you and you pay at the desk afterwards. Everything is pretty straight-forward and fast. For a small shopping bag of paper it was $3.50. A standard banker box is about $8 and it goes up from there. Definitely will come back when I need to save some time from shredding. Definitely recommend for big loads of paper recycling. My office has used a SF based shredding company for years, but with the pandemic, they weren't able to come out to pick up my many boxes of documents until August. Needing the space, I decided to give Berkeley Shreds a try. When I pulled up, it didn't look like much, but as soon as I parked, a very helpful employee came out to help unload my car. He had me stand outside while he carted my boxes up to this humungous machine and shredded everything right in front of me in less than a minute. It was quick, cheap, and easy. Needed a bin delivered to shred personal documents from cleaning out a deceased family members house and were happy to find Berkeley Shreds. They were friendly, helpful, and fairly priced. Start of a long story. A distant relative passed and we had to clear out a lot of personal and business paperwork. Not sure what to do or where to go, a friend mentioned a place in Berkeley right off of Gilman Street. A quick Google search gave us Automatic Response. After calling in and talking with a very informative and energetic gal. We loaded up the station wagon with not only tons of paperwork, we also took their 2 laptops in (they remove computer hard drives also). Getting there was a little bit tricky with the city doing major construction work near their entry gate. But the city workers directed is right in. One of the Automatic Response workers (think his name is William) came out and helped us load everything on to a cart. We actually got to watch them destroy everything, kind of fun to see. And the good kicker, 99% of everything that is brought in, is recycled. Went inside to their office to pay the bill, and learned who the energetic voice on the phone was. WHAT HAPPY DRUG ARE Y'ALL ON? This place used to be okay. I have been a regular customer for years. But today, the guy manning the shredder was rude beyond belief. He went out of his way to treat me with sneering contempt. It was totally out of the blue; I had just walked in and hadn't said or done anything that could justify such incivility. Then a friend told me she was in there three days ago and had the exact same experience: Both the shredder guy and the woman in the front office gave her a truckload of mean attitude. It's hard to fathom all these glowing reviews, unless Mr. Rude just came on board or they're pumping some weird happy potion into the air. Whatever, this ain't the only shredding place around. I just found a great company up in Richmond, behind the Target store off McDonald, where they are very professional and respectful. I went here for the first time yesterday after reading so many positive reviews. They were fine overall and I'll go back, but I learned 2 important lessons for my next visit. 1. I brought in 2.5 liquor boxes full of papers. Each box was about half the size of a banker's box. I was charged for 3 banker's boxes (probably double what I should have been charged had they charged by volume). Next time I will be sure to actually use banker's boxes so it's more economical. 2. I have a bad back and there was no one to help unload boxes from my car. Luckily my brother was with me and could help. read more

Fast and easy service. Pulled up, was directed to use one of their push carts to help unload and within minutes, my documents were being shredding in front of me on the large conveyer belt. In the 10 minutes I was there, five more people arrived to have things shredded so it's clearly a popular spot. I was also able to get two old cellphones destroyed as well. Two cellphones and three boxes of documents cost me $45. Not bad and will definitely being returning for all my future shredding needs. read more
