This place was extremely busy for brunch, but now I understand. There was a great selection to choose from and brunch dishes I have not seen at other places. It was hard to decide but I was happy with my choices. Eggs in Purgatory with Toast 4/5: This was something that I was interested in trying. The main base was a tomato stew with bacon, mushrooms, eggs, etc. The toast slice was pretty thick and hard to chew through so it was really helpful to dip it in the stew. The stew itself was flavorful but a bit salty for my liking. There were plenty of bacon pieces and all the other ingredients made the dish tasty altogether. Mascarpone Blueberry Stuffed Crunch French Toast 5/5: I shared this one but I love having something carby and sweet for brunch. The outside was crunchy and the inside was moist, soft, and sweet. We came here on a Saturday around 12 and were seated right away. We initially placed ourselves onto the Yelp waitlist 15 minutes before arriving so highly recommend doing so if you want to avoid the wait! The place was modern and had a nice lively environment. Once seated, we were able to order our two dishes and a drink very quickly. Waffle and KFC (4/5) - The plating of this dish was really nice. The chicken was crispy and went well with the waffles and fruits. However, I've had better Korean fried chicken. Ube Latte (5/5) - After Ube Lattes from other brunch places and being disappointed from the dull flavors, I didn't have high expectations for this. However, I was surprised with how flavorful this latte was. You could really taste the Ube! Brussel Hash with Toast (5/5) - This dish consisted of a variety of ingredients from Brussel sprouts, eggs, potato, toast, and more! Tantalizing ideas but execution not quite there. I've seen lots of yummy, aesthetic images of food from Berkeley Social Club shared and was excited about the opportunity to have brunch there after a hike brought me to the area. They weren't using the Yelp Waitlist feature this day (where you can add yourself to the Waitlist before getting to the restaurant), but thankfully it was only ~10 minutes of a wait after I inputted my information in person at the restaurant. My friends and I were promptly seated by a friendly waitress and spent a long time perusing the generous menu. There were interesting fusion dishes and lots of dishes featuring Millionaire's Bacon. Two friends ended up getting the popular blueberry marscapone stuffed French toast, one got a burger and I opted for the KFC avocado salad. Maybe we were especially hungry but we seemed to wait quite a while for our food. In the meantime my friend's ube latte arrived - it has no caffeine but was a pleasant, rich, warming drink that she said was good. When at long last our food arrived and we dug in, it was good but could be better. The french toasts had a good crunch on the outside but were a bit heavy and hard to finish - surprising for a cheese as light as marscapone. My salad didn't have much flavor apart from the overly creamy sriracha dressing, the bacon was tough and proportions off with maybe ~8 cherry tomatoes total to go wuth a whole bed of greens and chicken. While everything looked great and I enjoyed my time at BSC, I didn't find it an experience to rave about and don't think I would crave coming back again. read more

I've been here a handful of times over the years and I'm not sure if it's because of the holidays, but I felt the food wasn't as amazing as I remember. They basically do Asian fusion food. Some of it is really good, like their corn cheese with hot cheetos, whereas I found other combos a bit strange (mashed sweet potatoes with galbi -- served without any rice). The french toast was crusted in frosted flakes so it was extra crunchy, my only critique would be I would love for there to be more filling / blueberries inside. We made a dinner reservation for 7:30 pm, but even though it was Valentine's Day they didn't seem too busy, so we might have been okay without reserving. We ordered three appetizers (shrimp sticks, dino foot, and buns w/ KFC) and the dolsot entree. The shrimp sticks were more like shrimp nuggets as opposed to whole shrimp, which I was a little surprised about. The spicy mayo that accompanied them was pretty good, but I think the texture of them being nuggets kind of threw me off, so I would say this item was only okay for me, but my boyfriend really liked them. The dino foot is highly recommended on Yelp for good reason - very good flavor and variety of textures. The BSC buns were also just okay for me; one of the KFC pieces actually had a bone in it, which was a bit off-putting. Finally, my boyfriend and I agreed the dolsot was really good, though it was pretty oily! We didn't upgrade it to any of the meat options, but the fried tofu had a nice texture and the flavors were great. This was a good amount of food for the two of us, but the bill does end up being pretty pricey if you order multiple apps. I know they are more known for their brunch, which I have yet to try, so I would be interested in coming back for that. I probably came here at the wrong dining time. I bet their 4 stars came from their brunch offerings. I was not at all impressed by their food, flavors and culinary skills. #1- for $15, they used canned cheese on their nachos. #2- the chips that accompanied the melted corn cheese had no crunch, probably a few days old. #3- their rabokki (tobikki and ramen) sauce didn't taste right and salty. Also the tobokki was too soggy ($22) #4 - the beef patty on the Loco moco was burnt ($21) #5- $26 galbi with canned pineapple slices and yam. So... here it is, I found this place on Yelp while Little Bit and I were in the area and didn't want to chance it in the city for Breakfast. There was a wait but we utilized the Yelp 'waitlist' feature and were seen rather quickly. I highly recommend you do the same if it all possible. This time the Yelp wait time was short and we put our name on the list while en route to the restaurant. Parking was a snap (metered) and there was NO wait! That's right we walked in and got seated right away. Service is always fast and attentive. We ordered the loco Moco, kfc Benedict, kf-chicken and waffles. You must try their version of Loco Moco. It's not what you find at L&L. Their version has kimchi and one juicy patty. YUM. Food here was good. Dinner was like Korean food without the banchan. Ordered the dolsot w bulgogi which was good but needed more plain rice to balance out the strong sauce flavor. The sauce that they use in the Takoballs can be used in other dishes as well which adds a great little kick of sweet to any other appetizer/ main course. Millionaire's bacon : I'm not a big pork fan but I do think this bacon has a little something that adds that spicy and sweet kick to it. I think the lettuce blended out the flavor but when having it alone, the bacon makes me rethink about my harsh judgment of pork. Dipping the lettuce in the Takoballs sauce and taking a bite of the "taco" was an amazing combo! BSC kimchi wings: The wings are accurate to its name and there was a strong kimichi flavor. The wings felt messy to eat because of all the sauce, but if you are a foodie like me, it doesn't matter. Kimchi lover fans, this one's for you!! Dino's Foot: My favorite appetizer!! There was no special discount on this but I understand given how good this appetizer was... Granted I am biased because I love sushi and sashimi, the tuna was a generous scoop and complimented the crisp rice cake underneath. Together they were a match made in heaven! Though, I wish they offered soy sauce on the side, it was still great none the less. Japchae Rice : I thought the japchae rice was pretty basic and standard to other restaurants. It came on a hot sizzling plate so beware! I liked the beef and the japchae, but I wish the rice had a little more pepper/ spice/ broth/ sauce on it to add a more special uniqueness to it because it felt quite plain compared to the other dishes we had. But with the Takoballs sauce, I can admit it was very good. Overall review: I would definitely recommend trying the Social Club if you are in town. This place is always hopping for their brunch! I signed up on yelps wait-list and it was a total life saver! I was fifth in line when I was at home and by the time I got there, I only had to wait 2 minutes. Their brunch menu is mostly traditional brunch foods with a few items that are Korean fusion. I had the Korean fried chicken and waffles. It was super delicious and perfectly crispy. My partner was disappointed that their normal maple syrup tastes like corn syrup. You have to pay 2$ more for real Vermont syrup. The deep fried French toast was decadent and filling. Definitely both dishes are those with a sweet tooth. Made a 5:45 reservation here ahead of the Caamp concert. Figured it would give us enough time to eat then head over for a 7:30 start time. Arrived and were seating promptly by the host. Everything went downhill from there. Restaurant was about half full when we got there (they opened at 5:00) and looking around I noticed only one table was eating (subtle foreshadowing) but didn't think too much of it. Got waters and ordered some appetizers. After about 20 minutes I looked around for a waiter to check on apps but could only find the host who also appeared to be their only waiter. By this time more groups were starting to filter in and host was jumping between host stand and taking orders. He said he'd check on our apps. Another 10 minutes go by and we're starting to get a little annoyed at this point. This time I went to the bartender and asked for a waiter to come take our entree orders since at this point we're already half hour in with no food at all. Bartender went to the kitchen and at the same time someone came with our food finally. I asked this person if they could take a food order for us which he did. We finish our apps and another 30 minutes goes by without entrees. Other groups who had entered the same time we did were in the same situation as us. The host/server was frantically running around the dining room trying to put out the grumbles of annoyed guests. Another 15 minutes and our entrees finally arrive. By this time it's about 7:00. The two stars are for the food and ambience which is good but the food might have just tasted good because we were so hungry by this point. Not sure if it was an off night or what but they were way understaffed in the front of house for the volume of and I assume people the back of house was the same. Probably the best breakfast spot in the Berkeley area in my opinion. The menu is big but in a good way- your traditional breakfast items with a few fusion options. The space is pretty large, they keep up with there rushed with a large space and attentive staff. The backyard patio area is a good seating area when the weather permits. The drinks and bacon were also something to rave an about as well. For the drink I got the bitter mimosa, which was this blue raspberry color which I enjoyed. This place's specialty is their "millionaire" bacon, which is a sick name by the way. It did not disappoint, I'm a sucker for thick, crispy cut bacon. Pricing is a bit on the higher end (California prices - about $20 a dish depending on what you get).
