I am so disappointed with this service I paid $56 for 8 lbs of wash and fold laundry and hem one pair of pants. They did not hang up anything! Shirts and pants folded. They did not fold any of my underwear. Just shoved them into a plastic bag. I had to fold my underwear myself to put away in my drawer. The pants are very well done. Alterations great. I now use Jennifer's Cleaners. It's just down the street. What a sweetie the lady at the counter is!!! read more

Front desk lady is always super nice and always remembers my name everytime I visit. (Never need to bring in my receipt) She's very attentive and always give me prompt dependable service. Bernal Cleaners has exceeded my every expectation for over 2 years while i was working in the Bay Area for the CHP. They have altered full sets of uniforms two times, flawlessly, (which the company i bought my tans from could not do). They have also altered dress pants, formal dresses and a full suit for my fiancé and I, all with one fitting and flawless alterations. I had many shifts where i would drop my uniforms off and need them next day or much sooner than the 3 day turn around, and they ALWAYS had my uniforms pressed and ready when i needed them. I regularly had some pretty bad stains or grime and they made magic happen making my uniforms look like new! The military press was perfect every time. They give a law enforcement discount, (1/2 off work uniforms) which is incredibly thoughtful, and they treat you like family. When i transferred to Sacramento, i went to say goodbye to Dao and the Bernal Cleaners family and she gave me the biggest hug and made me promise to stop by when I'm in town to say hello. We were almost in tears! When do you see that kind of connection anymore??? It is rare to find a company that truly cares about their customers and take a personal interest in helping them anyway they can. I appreciate Dao, and how everyone took care of my every need. I recently took my dress here for a simple alteration to take in the sleeve of the dress. The seamstress didn't take in the sleeves as discussed during the fitting as they were still loose and also ruined the structure of the dress. When I brought the dress back in to be fixed I was informed that I would have to pay an additional fee to have my dress altered "again". What a scam, don't take your clothes here. read more

I thought I found a new place to bring my uniforms for alterations and dry cleaning, but I was wrong. . I brought in my uniform top to get some patches to sawn in. When I dropped it off, the costumer service was great. The lady helping was kind and nice. I told her specifically that I need all the pockets and not to saw over them. I repeated a few times to her and acknowledged that she understood. I even motioned it to her. I also told her that I need the uniform as soon as you can. . When I picked it up, the uniform looks great but when I checked the pockets, it was sawn. I didn't get to pick it up that day because it needs to be fix. I needed a new set of uniforms that week too. DO NOT GO TO BERNAL CLEANERS FOR ALTERATIONS. Do I need to repeat myself? I took a dress of mine in to have the length shortened to just above my knees. (When I took it in, the dress came down to mid-calf). It was a $250.00 dress so i grilled the poor seamstress before handing it over. I was very particular in my instructions and she assured me that I would get a beautiful shortened dress back. My dress is now a top. It doesn't even cover my butt. I can't even begin to say how angry I am. The worst part: after politely explaining (I struggled so hard to keep my cool) to the employees what had happened, they said: "Oooh, so sorry.Thirty dollar please." Never again. read more

I've always had good service here for dry cleaning and alterations. Their prices are also very reasonable. I've brought in two pairs of jeans to have hemmed and both times they did an excellent job. Most places either make them too long or too short. Also they only charge $10 for hemming which is less expensive then other places I have been too. I can't complain....plus it's very close to my house which makes it convenient. read more

I like this cleaners, but if you advertise your business hours as 9-6, I shouldn't find a sign at 2:30 PM on your door saying you'll be back by 3 PM, after I've made a special trip to do business with you during your published business hours. I've been coming here for over a year now and bring my repairs or cleaning only here - plus I don't know any better. But the staff has always been sweet, if only a bit non-understandable, but are efficient none the less. I've not had to wait in a line, have rude service or fight with anyone. So yeah! I've brought things in repair from pants, hems and zippers. All have been good work and I've had no problems. The cleaning is good as well - they haven't ruined anything and it comes out bright and fresh. I will say though that the prices seem a little high and sometimes it takes quite a while to get back a garment being repaired. But it all seems worth it to get quality service. Sweet local place with quality work. Oh and plenty of parking, it's in a big shopping center. read more

Ruined a $135 Theory shirt, then tried to blame me for it! If you care about your clothing, do not use this place! I had used this place for years, with mixed results, due to proximity to my house. All too often shirts came back with problems that had to be addressed, but it was all minor until recently. Went to pick up my order and discovered they had ripped a massive hole in the front of my dress shirt. Their explanation was (1) it was there when I dropped it off and then (2) the material was old. I explained the shirt was less than 1 year old, and given I am prone to expensive clothing, was well taken care of. After I pressed a little, the manager ended up giving me a call, offering to repair the shirt and give me a $20 credit. Given the shirt now looks horrible after the repair job, I walked out and posted this review instead. read more

They informed me the day after Christmas that 19, yes, 19, pieces of my clothing had been stolen. First, they never submitted my claim form to the insurance company. Next I was told that they did not submit the police report to the insurance company. I am very close to bringing a lawsuit against this cleaners. They have not even offered me a nominal sum so that I can go out and replace some of the items I lost. UNBELIEVEABLE. I am now contacting the San Jose Police Department so I can verify that there was indeed a theft! I just wanted my clothes back or the money to replace them! I should have followed the reviews before me. Have used then 3 times and the first two were to dry clean slacks and that went fine. So I brought in my suit jacket for alteration and it was way off. I was told the "wrong person" measured me with the jacket on and that they will fix it. But I brought the jacket in for a special occasion...which is now f'd up. I decided to try Bernal Cleaners as they were close to my work location, and previous Yelp reviews showed not so bad results.....Hope my review will assist someone in making a choice. I brought in a very expensive and nice trench coat - and not only did I get it back a week later, because the factory forgot to send in my belts along with the coat - I saw the inner lining being torn off in 5 different places! All from one cleaning machine. The Staff at the Cleaners was not helpful in offering suggestions - so I gave them my suggestion - they either alter the holes by sewing them together or refund me the money. The refused to fix it by sewing it,. After me arguing with them for 5-10 minutes refunded me my money back, and I had to take and fix my coat somewhere else. In the beginning this place did very nice work, I took pants in to be cleaned or altered and they did what I wanted perfectly. But after awhile the started getting to comfortable with me I guess. I'd take pants in to get altered to a certain length and they'd either make them too short, or one leg was higher than the other. And they'd charge me a ridiculous amount. When I would go back in to have them fix it, they wanted to charge me the same amount for the fix, after a very long argument with the women behind the desk, she finally agreed to do it for free....This place was so easy to get to. But after having to make several trips to fix the problems they caused and having a few of my clothes lost it's not worth the irritation. read more

I lived in Bernal area for long awhile & I am familiar w/ the businesses here. I come to this dry cleaner for alterations & repair even now that i moved to another city. They have been providing great service to me, and my clothes always come to my expectation, clean. They have done repairs to our clothes & always to our satisfaction & if there's any minor concern, they have always been able to repair it w/o question. This review is WAAAY overdue. I contemplated this review for quite some time, blaming myself for what happened. It is only recently (since it got cold again) that I began to become more irritated with my experience here from last winter. I'll start by saying that I have an addiction to big knitted sweaters, which I cherish because they are cozy, warm, and help hide my winter fluff. Unfortunately, I am known for always shrinking my stuff, so this time around I decided to just get my sweaters dry cleaned instead of washing them myself. Side note: on this occasion I took in 3 sweaters, each around the price range of 175.00-275.00 $. Now this is where I start to blame myself... Perhaps I should have known that they are too delicate to dry clean, maybe I should have read the care instructions more thoroughly, but I didn't... I brought these sweaters in and asked for them to be dry cleaned. I assumed that when someone works in dry cleaning, they would know if something cannot be dry cleaned and would tell me, or that they would at least check the label before doing so. The lady at the front was very nice, she looked at the sweaters and said, "ok, they will be ready by Friday". When time came to pick up my sweaters, I did not notice anything wrong, because they were already bulky to begin with and I didn't take time to inspect, I trusted them enough to not make such a mistake. It was only a week later when I tried on one of the sweaters, that realized instead of bulky and loose, my sweater was tight on me! It hugged my love handles and instead of hiding my winter fluff, it only brought more attention to it. I actually had a hard time pulling it over my arms, as it was too tight on my arms and wouldn't give. Of course, I then tried on my other two sweaters, to find them also too small. I never took my sweaters back or notified the staff because I was sure that they wouldn't be able to do anything to make it right. It's not like they can compensate for the amount I spent buying those sweaters and an apology simply wouldn't matter at that point. I guess I just had more faith in people. If you work in this specialty, I would expect you to know what can and can't be dry cleaned. HUGE BUMMER. Just wanted to get this off my chest. read more

I took some curtains here to be altered. I specifically asked, and reiterated, that they needed to be 43 inches long, when finished. The lady at the counter and I took them out of the package and made sure we understood each other, 43 inches from the top...not from the hooks, etc. And also, not 43 centimeters, but inches. Her English was fine, and we seemed to have an understanding. When I came back, she acted like she didn't see me and disappeared, leaving another lady who clearly did not speak English well, to take my payment. They charged 53 dollars to alter the curtains! When I got home, I realized that, in addition to makeup stains on the curtains (ew), the alteration was 39 inches! My curtains look ridiculous now. I went to Bernal Cleaners with a little hesitation after reading some reviews but I have a newborn and needed to go to somewhere close to my house to get my $180 maid of honor dress altered. I needed the length shortened on the dress and when I went there, the lady was very kind and had me try the dress on. She pinned the dress and asked me several times if I was okay with the length. The first time I still thought it was too long so she took all the pins out and re-pinned it with a smile on her face. She told me the alterations were going to be $40 and they would press the dress also. She asked me when I wanted it and I asked if it was possible for Tuesday (I went in on Saturday). She told me that was plenty of time and that the dress would be ready on Monday. I went back on Tuesday and picked up the dress and the length was perfect and I got great service. I would definitely recommend going here for dress alterations! read more

I've been going to Bernal Cleaners for years. its always been a little pricey, and service is not the best, but worth it because it's right by my house. I recently dropped off three work pants and a pair of jeans, the lady asked if I was in a rush I said no take your time, she asked can you pick it up on Thursday I said sure. So I was counting on the work pants Friday and came to pick them up Friday morning on my way to work. I showed up and my clothes were still bunched up in a bag altered but not cleaned or pressed as promised, the lady behind the counter did not seem to care that I was inconvenienced and only offered me $3 off, in which they charged me $63 to have 3 pants altered and dry cleaned. I expressed how disappointed I was and how I had been coming there for years but she still seemed not to care at all, so all in all this ended my good thoughts on Bernal Cleaners, will never go here again. Brought in many suits and recently a silk jacket....I rarely wear suits now that I'm reitred so I didn't think to check the buttons. My designer buttons and mother of pearl buttons were replaced with plain plastic buttons. When I brought the garments which hadn't been worn since the cleaning..the counter clerks denied that any buttons were changed. Now I'm going thru my recent photos of me wearing the jacket/suits for them to see. read more
