Do NOT get the steak sub. It's awful. I usually go to Bernie's for a quick bite when I spend the whole day at the beach. The sub didn't even have a full amount of steak in it. I saw so many people order it so I thought I would give it a try... big mistake! My brother and his gf ordered the same thing and they also couldn't eat it. On that note.... The burger is great! The lobster rangoons are also great! Drinks are okay! I've ordered pina coladas and the bomb pop and both are good. I do believe they're overpriced for food and drink, but I guess that's what you get for eating at the beach!

The service was friendly but slow. The food was nothing special. The nachos were soggy like they were microwaved, and the steak was really rare. The bathrooms were old, outdated and gross. The location is great and the view from the upper deck is beautiful. That's about all they have going for them.

this bartender was literally flirting with dudes for 15 minutes. We sat at the bar for 15 full minutes and did not get served. She saw that we were there and continued bending over the counter for a group of young men. We are a 23 year old couple btw. If you are not a young male between 21-22 you will get no service at Bernie's we literally left before getting served because we didn't want to wait for a drink any longer. It was actually 15 mins and the bar was empty other than 5 prepubescent boys

This is a classic spot that we come to at least once per year. The only bad reviews you'll see for this place are about the "food" and the "service" from uptight Karen's or kids who the bouncers didn't let in. The food is average to good depending on what you get and the service is about average considering the staff has to deals with the aforementioned Karen's during the day and the aforementioned kids at night when it turns into a legitimate party spot for the younger crowd. If you're older come here with an expectation of drinking a cocktail on a deck within a stones throw away from the ocean, but leave when the music starts and the kids show up at night.

I thought this place was just okay. Our waiter, that we could barely hear, took our drink order. Came back told us some things weren't available for drinks. Took a new order. And before the drinks were delivered another waitress came over to take our drink order again. Maybe it was a shift change but it seemed like no one knew what was going on. We ordered appetizers and meals. Our meals came out first...and halfway through those our apps came out. This is probably my biggest restaurant pet peeve. But the good - the lobster roll and steamers were very good. My husband had the fried platter and said it was good too. Prices for the food were expensive but as expected...I thought the drinks were overpriced and not that great.

This is a great spot for a quick drink. The food leaves a little to be desired, the service is good considering how busy they usually are especially if the weather is nice, but the best part has to be the ambiance! Enjoying a nice cold drink while sitting on a roof top overlooking the beach and the ocean!

The view is great... the bands are great. Appetizers are MUCH better then entrees. Nachos are loaded and good Entrees were expensive and not good. Red snapper was over cooked however the sauce was very good. Mahi was also over cooked Got fried seafood platter and the clams were inedible as they were burned - two of us had clams and both were the same. The clam chowder was more like a corn chowder but good Other things to note. Additional sides $6. So if you want an additional corn on the cob it's $6. I would recommend sticking to apps and if you want an entree head somewhere else.

Had the lobster bisque & lobster Rangoon. I didn't care for the rangoon because the sauce had a soy sauce base. I thought it sounded good, but didn't deliver. I didn't finish the rangoon. The lobster bisque is the ABSOLUTE BEST I have ever had. I take every opportunity to try bisque from coast to coast and this style with thick, creamy, rich stock and generous chunks of lobster is undeniably the best. I came here 8 years ago and made sure to enjoy on my repeat visit. Drinks are very tasty with a tall pour. Lively atmosphere and live music. I could not understand why anyone would dine elsewhere on the beachfront when Bernie's is here for the enjoyment. Heading back to CA - and plan to see you again, Bernie!

I lived 7 1/2 years in Louisiana and even worked for 2 1/2 years at the legendary Ralph & Kacoo's, so I have been searching for years for Cajun food as good as I enjoyed back then. I have eaten at every so called Cajun Restaurant in NH, ME, MA, and RI. North of NOLA and Big Mamou in Springfield MA are the only two that could be served in Louisiana . I started if with an Abita Purple Haze (beer). I was worried it might be a little stale, but it was fresh and tasty. My wife had a hard Southern Peach Tea. It was delicious as well. On to the food: We started with a bowl of seafood gumbo. It was very thick, not watery, and had lots of shrimp, crab, crawfish, and okra. 10 of 10 and the hit of the night. I will return just for the gumbo. My wife got the Zydeco Pasta for her meal. Not too spicy and full of flavor. Maybe a tad to much andouille, but 7 of 10. I got the Crawfish Etouffe. A little mild for my taste but delicious. 8 of 10. We also got a Blackened Fish Bites appetizer with our meals. I wish it was catfish, but they used Haddock. It was perfectly spiced and delicious. 8 of 10. Would be 10 of 10 if they used wild caught catfish. For dessert we got Beignets and coffee. The beignets were dreamy. 9 of 10. All in all it was an amazing experience and we will make the drive again soon.

While Smuttynose doesn't have a cat (that I'm aware of), we were pleasantly surprised to meet the resident good boy, a black lab named Willy! What a treat. He is so friendly and freely roams the bar and beer garden. Cute pup aside, I love their facility. The outdoor area hosts a variety of seating options, including my personal favorite: adirondack chairs. This place would be an ultimate summer hang if I lived closer! You don't even have to go inside to order a beer - just walk up to the order window. I tasted their fall offers: Oktoberfest and Pumpkin Ale. I thoroughly enjoyed both, even purchasing a variety pack to trek home with me that included both the Oktoberfest and Pumpkin Ale. Their flagshop brown ale is called Old Brown Dog, and when we visited, they had a stronger version on tap - Very Old Brown Dog. The Very Old Brown Dog is one of the better strong beers I've tasted in some time. Definitely a sipper, especially if you're driving - but boy, it was smooth and very tasty in spite of it's sub 10% abv. The tasting bar is no frills at it's core, but clean bathrooms, fun merch, and good beer are flowing. There are some snacky foods available for purchase, but their restauarant is just across the parking lot if you're seeking a substantial meal. Lots of parking, great outdoor gathering space, smaller indoor seating area - would be great for summer hangs. Lots of tasty beer and a good doggy await. Smuttynose is one of my favorite breweries I've visited in recent memory.
