I come up to Hampton at least twice a year and I always have a problem with this place so I tend to avoid it. My boyfriend wanted to try it so we waited in a long line for about 25 minutes to get in. The employees at the door kept letting large groups of people (their friends) cut in front of every one in line. Finally got upstairs and we ordered food and drinks. Had to send our drinks back cuz they were disgusting. We waited for over an hour after placing our order and it turns out our waitress forgot to put our food order in so our order never made it to the kitchen which closed so we were shit out of luck for something to eat tonight. Tried to give them another chance, never again. read more

Yesterday, around 4 pm my friends and I wanted to sit down on a patio and have a drink. We are from Michigan and thought this place seemed like the best to enjoy a great view with an alcoholic beverage. Upon being seated we were informed by a bus boy that the waiters do not like when you just order drinks on the patio-- which is crazy to me because they weren't aware of how much we wanted to drink or if we were going to give a courtesy tip to make up for not ordering a meal. One of my friends is a waitress, who is aware of how it feels to have a table of just drinkers, so we were even going to get an appetizer and tip well to make up for the loss of a full dining experience. When our two waiters came over (one who was training and one who was the trainer) the trainer mentioned how we were just drinking and wanted to take our menus and silverware off the table immediately. We wanted to keep at least one menu and the silverware because like I mentioned previously, we had full intentions of getting an appetizer. Even after mentioning that we were going to eventually get one he still proceeded to take the silverware and menus. They then took our drink order, the trainer brought our drinks, and informed us that just because we were only drinking they were going to leave us alone and we would have to flag them down to get anything else. (Which I thought was odd and a bit rude they weren't going to even check in on us) I took the opportunity to order a side of French fries then. And the waiter, who was the original employee that was training, said "okay!" and went to (what I thought was) put in my order. 5 minutes passed, 15 minutes, 35 minutes, and still no fries but everyone else had their meal that sat after us. No one checked on us to see if we wanted another drink or anything. Once I finally saw the waiter after much time had passed that was training the other waiter, I told him to just cancel my fries and we would need the check. He seemed apologetic but he did nothing to compensate for the fact he never rang in the order of fries. When asking for the check we specified how we wanted our bills separate. 5 minutes later he brings one check and at that point we were just irritated. At this point we were wondering why in the world he was training a new employee! The overall experience was terrible and it was a bummer because we are on vacation and just wanted to enjoy ourselves at what we thought was going to be an awesome location. read more

Where do I begin.... first off my two girlfriends and I go to sit down at the bar and they say we need to ask a hostess. We go to the hostess station and we asked to sit down and she goes and says "I'm not your hostess ." Very confusing.we sit down and our server seemed to be a moron and didn't know his A$$ from his damn elbow !!! He didn't bring all the food we ordered the first time. Then he brought our salads with no dressing after he said he was bringing our balsamic dressing. Then he comes back and says "I'll see if I can find it." Find it?... comes back with a balsamic "maranaid" for salad. Then dishes are stacked, walks by us easily 5x and doesn't ask us if we need anything or clear any of the dirty dishes stacking up! He left us sitting for easily 30 minutes with no service and dirty dishes.The worst part was the filthy rotten looks from the female waitresses, all blonde and had gross fake eyelashes !Very uncomfortable. Save your money for this sick and twisted establishment!!! Stay away, everyone is rude and spiteful !! Also we spent $22 on a measly drink that says it's for 3 and it was a drink for one. When you sit at a table and the server tells you to go the host stand to get sat, that's ok, when the hosts tell you that you can't sit at any tables because they are reserved for people eating on a Wednesday at 1030, not a good move. We may not have felt like eating at the moment, but we we're going to drink. 4 of us 3 beers, and possibly an appetizer, that's 80 that will never get spent there. It's ok. This is absolutely the worst establishment that I have ever attempted to see a performer in my life. I go out in Boston normally and frequently travel going out in places from Miami to Vegas to Barcelona. I went here for the first time last night to go see Lil' Jon driving up to meet a friend that had an extra ticket. The bouncers were unbelievably rude, granted my friend was a little tipsy and confused but I was completely sober since I don't drink. She mistakenly thought she could bring my ticket down since she had been there for hours and have me skip the line. Their response to her was unacceptable and when we went back and waited in line following the interaction they refused to let us in when we got to the front saying they had kicked us out. They actually had the audacity to make us wait and line with the plan to not let us in when we got to the front. I am truly horrified by the management of this establishment and would never ever go here again in my life. If you are use to going out in Boston and/or have any expectations of being treated with respect, don't drive up to this place. They are trashy and rude! When I posted this review on Instagram, instead of management actually contacting me to try to make things right or apologize they blocked me so I can't comment and share my experience. Clearly they do not care about customers or service. Pretty sure the incident last night was just so they could sell more tickets. read more

Recently went there and the service was super fast and friendly. Everybody was great and the view from the top was beautiful. Food was excellent. I recommend the stuffed haddock it was 10/10. Our overall experience was wonderful and can't wait to come back next year! read more

If I didn't have to give this place a star I wouldn't. We drove from RI for a bachelorette party and was handing the bouncer our IDs, he stated RI had the most fakes so we also proceeded to explain we got new ones and they now bend, he then told us he was going to be a douchebag and not let us in and told the Hampton police we were belligerent, which was not the case whatsoever, I had wish I was belligerent. Went to dinner with my bf around 6 pm. The hostess didn't seem like she knew what she was doing. She was having trouble finding a place for us to sit even though there were clearly open tables available. We were seated with only one menu. We waited for our server to greet us for about 15 min but no one ever showed up. We had to talk to the hostess again to have her assign us a server. The food was quick to come. Food was pretty good overall. I got the lobster bisque which was very good. They did make some errors like not putting chicken on the chicken caesar salad and not giving us the waters we ordered. The place itself is really cool. It seems like a good place to go for nightlife, live music, and drinking with friends. However, the dining staff is a bit discombobulated and needs more training. read more

Went with my husband and another couple for the first time this past weekend and had a great time. We had seen this place when we drove by on the strip and it looked cool. Umbrellas on the roof deck with lots of stuff going on. We were sat immediately and noticed the plexi-glass barrier is way nicer then typical deck rails because it doesn't obstruct your view of the ocean. They had a reggae performer who was great and people were playing cornhole up near the stage. We ordered 16 oysters on the half shell and a full belly clam dinner to split. Everything was great, even the French fries. We also liked the landshark lager big cans, 4 in a bucket for $13. We'd definitely go back to Bernie's when we are in the area. read more

I very much wish I read the reviews before coming to this restaurant. It's over priced. The wait staff never delivered plates for the appetizer, then grabbed the plate out from under my sister's face while she was still eating and before the plate was empty. They told me that they only put cocktails in a glass when I asked why my martini was in a plastic cup. A martini is a cocktail...no? Avoid this place. read more

I haven't had much of a problem with the food. It was fine, and I found the drinks to be good. I always found the bartenders friendly, the atmosphere lively, and I enjoyed my time there. That being said, I had a weird experience last time. As I was about to get my last drink, my bartender said there was a "$10 credit card limit". I have never had this problem and I've been going to Bernie's for months. Even as I said my tip would push me to the $10 required to process it, she continued to push the "limit", eventually forcing me to open up a tab and giving me the drink that was already made for me. I'm not sure if this was a new policy or a bartender trying to get extra money, but this should have been made clear before making me the drink. read more

Bernie's had good food. The one star comes from the incident that happened once our check came. Our waitress brought us back the wrong change (10 dollars short), when we politely said it was the wrong change she immediately got defensive and said no. Now I work in customer service and no where has "no" been an acceptable response. She started to get very rude with us and I asked to speak to a manager but one was not there. The only solution we were given was to have drinks that equaled the 10 dollars (in my opinion this is not an acceptable solution). I am 100% sure of the amount of money I gave her and am appalled (not at the mistake) but how it was handled and the attitude the waitresses gave us. I left 10 dollars short and irritated that my lunch and day was ruined. I will never be returning to this restaurant and will not recommend it to anybody. I am anxiously waiting a phone call from a manager so I can speak to him about the attitudes of his waitresses. read more

There was plenty of staff on hand just standing around so there was no excuse for poor service. Food was forgotten as well as drinks. Burgers were all over cooked. I had stopped by Bernie's but very long ago. Decided to check it out with a group of friends. I hate to have to leave a bad review but I like to be completely honest. The best part about Bernie's is the location and look of the place. Very big, over looking the beach. Huge dance floor, and they have DJ's sometimes. So, the waiting time was insane, but I DO understand it's a huge, busy busy busy place so just be OK with waiting. Ordered a mango margarita that was ALL mango syrup, I couldn't drink it so I went with a Weekend at Bernie's instead, juicy and much better. For my meal I ordered the fried shrimp basket, they were pretty big shrimp and crispy fries. I tried my friend's chicken fingers and they were not tasty at all, I don't recommend. Now here is where the fun is. Our appetizer spinach and artichoke dip never came until we asked for it. My (other) friend was eating a chicken tender and I literally watched as she chewing and then she pulled out the longest strand of BLONDE hair come out of her chicken. Can't possibly understand how a piece of hair that long could've came out from a chicken tender..but it DID. The server said she would have the manager come over, and NOBODY ever did. They did get her a fresh order of tenders and took it off the bill but that was it. When we got the check, it was all very pricey for normal food/drink with a lot of waiting. I heard about this place on Facebook and decided to make the drive from Manchester after work one day since the weather was so nice! I walk upstairs, find an opening at the bar, and my drink order was taken within a minute of being there! They were out of the flavoring I wanted, but as a server myself I completely understand that stuff happens. I got my drinks and sat at a table and enjoyed the view. Came back later on for some steamers, but was told the wait for table was an hour thirty. I was confused, because when I came earlier in the day the wait was 30 minutes, but there was maybe 20 tables open. There were still tables open so I didn't understand why the wait was so long. The only good thing about this place is the view. Food is awful-- we ordered nachos with chicken and they forgot the chicken,no big deal. The waiter took it back and brought them back with chicken ( the chicken was cold, tasted like it was cooked at 11am and very rubbery) the nachos themselves weren't even warm...4 of use went to ate there and the bill came to $86, paid with the card. One of my favorite places to go when I go out or after a day on the beach. The view and music make for a perfect getaway. The waitstaff are on top of it and have always made my times here enjoyable. My favorite thing to get is the Hummus and Tabouli app. Something different from the norm. Or the Lobster Sliders, on buttery croissants. Terrible bar. I was assaulted and my friend was subject to racial slurs as a result of me simply being on my phone. Instead of using her words a bartender decided to climb up my back and try to confiscate my phone due to me snapchatting. I am appalled by the owner and his allowance of such behavior. Bernie's is the premier beach restaurant on Hampton Beach. The location overlooking the beach is amazing. The food and live music make it a place you can spend all afternoon and evening at. The specialty drinks and tap list make your visit very easy to enjoy. The food is the perfect after beach meal. The burgers are cooked just right and the fresh seafood is excellent. I make it a point to go to Bernie's whenever I am up at Hampton Beach. There is no better way to unwind from a long day at the beach then hanging at Bernie's. read more

I typically read the reviews on here as useful tips I keep in my pocket and see what the place is about for myself before passing any judgment. However, I have to say that I agree with the previous reviews that this place is horribly slow with service. This says a lot because I consider myself a very patient and understanding customer. First of all, when I walked up to the entrance, I decided to stay on the lower level because there was an hour wait for upstairs seating. There was a questionable girl at the door staring off into space. Was she the host? Was she a customer waiting in line? We had no idea, but later, she must have woken up from her daze and started to seat people after we got tired of trying to solve the mystery and had just walked in and sat down at a dirty table. She was very good at handing out leis though. Finally seated and table cleaned, we had the incredible mission of trying to get a waiter. I was waving like a crazy person to get one waitress' attention, but she was socializing with the table next to us. Frustrated after waiting another 30 minutes for someone to come by, I went to the bar, behind which were that same waitress and a waiter as well as the bartender. I am not a tiny woman and had a projecting voice when I said hello, so for them to not hear or see me is ridiculous. I waved my arm then and called to them even louder RIGHT IN FRONT OF THEM, and no one looked up. That was amazingly rude when I was being so polite. I was intentionally ignored. The two girls just walked away and finally I was able to get a response from the guy who was still in front of me because he was getting ice. He didn't even look up but acknowledged he heard me, which makes me believe that minutes before, they could all hear me, confirming that I was blatantly ignored. IT SHOULD NOT BE THIS DIFFICULT TO GET SERVICE AT A RESTAURANT. I stayed to see how this would pan out. The waiter was okay once I was able to get his attention. Still slow, but I guess relative to the table next to us, who were extremely angry about their service and food, we got what we ordered. I give 1 star for the whole experience because the food was edible, and the waiter gave us what we needed when we were able to flag him down. Will not be returning, and management really needs to have a staff meeting and re-evaluate performance and training...and some lessons in common courtesy and manners. read more
