My parents were seated in the dining area and waited 15 minutes without service and left. Days later I went in with 7 other people to order a couple drinks at the bar and sit on the patio. It took 10 minutes for my order to be taken. I ordered a bourbon and soda that somehow took 5 entire minutes to mix. We went out to the patio so some of us could smoke. It was raining so we stood under a tent that was set up on the patio. We heard someone yell the word "douchebags" in our direction, looked, and found out it was a staff member. The rest of the staff insisted that he was calling another server and that he wasn't yelling obscenities toward us. We were the only people on the entire balcony. This place is ok. Nice upstairs rooftop dining overlooking the beach. Very open and pretty. Service was pretty good, our waitress was nice and we were seated promptly, even though a downpour just passed through. The food just wasn't great and is way overpriced. Expensive calamari and it was bland and tiny. Garden salad was good, haddock was rubbery and overlooked, chips with chips and salsa were stale, rice and beans was mush. Crowd was getting rough when we were leaving...a slightly intoxicated man was spitting phlegm on the deck while drinking,smoking and playing cornhole. Friendly staff from the moment we walked in. Stephanie, our waitress was great. What I really appreciated was that they notified us at the hostess stand that the kitchen was a little backed up before we were brought to our table. I had the absolute worst service ever here. First off, it seems as if this place only hires ignorant jersey shore girls. We sat at the bar and the girls were all talking to each other right on front of us and didn't even acknowledge we were there for 15 minutes. One girl finally came over and asked what we wanted, in a very rude tone of voice. We asked for menus, since they didn't even give us any. Then, she asked us for our ID's. She stared at mine for a good 5 minutes then told me it was expired. It doesn't expire until 2015. I informed her of that, then all she said was "oh 2015 just kidding." Like wow, you can even read and understand numbers? So I told her thanks anyways but we're going elsewhere and she didn't even say anything back to that, just proceeded talking to her friends. Awful Service, rude waitresses and Bar tenders. I sat at the bar for over 20 minutes while the 3 bar tenders did not even look at me....it was me and 3 other people at the bar. They Over charged my Girlfriends Nachos by 6 bucks. Slammed down the Check without saying ANYTHING (Thank you, etc). Horrible experience!! Went here a couple weeks ago on a saturday. The place is over priced and the food is mediocre at best. My boyfriend ordered the fish and chips and he got four quarter sized pieces of fish with fries. I got the mussels which claimed to be a pound and a half, not even close. I was trying to be optimistic about the place because I begged my boyfriend to go there but was extremely offended by what seemed to be the owner. We were there all of 30 minutes, our bill was more $50 and I was finishing my beer when we over heard the owner and / or manager say to our waitress that we were there too long and that she needed to try to get us to leave so new people could sit down. Beyond rude and I will never go there again. It wasn't like we were sitting there for hours milking a soda. If that is how you are going to run your business, make sure your customers don't hear you. read more

Ick. Stopped by here for something to eat after seeing a show at the Casino Ballroom. The hostess sat us at an outside table quickly, but we waited a very long time for a server to see us even though it didn't seem busy in our section. Someone finally came over and took our drink order then returned later for our food order. We received our food long before our two simple drinks (I only had a soda, my boyfriend had a beer). While the concept is striking, the bar does not seem to be running on all cylinders. Granted, they opened recently, but is operated by the same management that runs "Wally's Pub" on Hampton Beach, so running a busy place is no stranger to them. Bernie's states that they have the largest deck on the beach, don't be sucked in by this. With all the tables and the large bar taking up the room, there is absolutely no standing room on the deck if you don't want to wait for a table. And because of the umbrellas from all the tables in front of the bar, there is absolutely NO view of the water and beach from the deck. The only way you will have a view is if you seat in the first row of tables. Bottom "deck" is even more boring, seeing as its just a slab of concrete outside on the street level. Staff was rude, and incoherent. Especially the bartenders and hosts. Food was strictly "meh" Hastily made and poorly put together, I had to send it back twice because of cold fries! The server said something under her breath the second time I sent it back. Wasn't very appreciative of that. Band was your run of the mill reggae cover band. Drinks were good, they still serve beer in glass bottles, lets see how long that lasts. Honestly as far as "decks" go for Hampton, I still prefer the Sea Ketch or Boardwalk. At least you have a variety of places to sit, inside or out. This place just comes off as a tryhard, niche kind of place, and they are failing at that miserably. Service is polite but extremely slow! The spinach dip is delicious with ricotta cheese. The kitchen however won't budge on substitutions at all. I wanted mushrooms on my Alfredo in place of the chicken. They offer mushrooms in an appetizer so throwing on some Alfredo in place of chicken shouldn't be too hard to do. In fact they should let people replace any meat in a dish with mushrooms for vegetarians so unfortunately I won't ever come back here. There's way too many options on the beach to NOT get what you want. There are places will gladly accommodate my requests. read more

Ate here 1st time today, cool spot being gluten-free there are so many things I miss & fried seafood is a biggie. They have it and it's fantastic! I had whole-belly clams AND onion rings! This restaurant is rated 2.5 stars too many.. After coming to Hampton Beach for years we've gone to Bernie's quite a few times but this last experience was enough to never come back. FYI... 1.) If you have a large party you may get laughed at when asking for a table as if it's impossible, you may just have to take it into your own hands and suggest that the whole bottom floor is available. 2.) Kids meals come out first, fried food comes out second and entrees comes out third. So if you and your family don't like eating at 3 separate times this place isn't the place for you. 3.) In our party of 21, we only ended up getting 20 of the meals. 4.) Don't ask for extra olives in your bloody marry... You'll get an eye roll. 5.) DON'T ask for the manager when disappointed, the response we received is "well there is 21 people" and "there's like a hundred other tickets in the kitchen" then was rudely asked what we wanted them to do about it. 6.) You might get chased down the street by your waitress waving her tip back in your face yelling "here, you might need this more then me" (which is a clear indication of how well she takes care of her other tables considering they probably didn't get checked on, meals, refills or plates cleared either) read more

If I could give no stars I would, we were visiting from California and celebrating my father in laws 80th birthday. The place was very crowded. One of the servers was obviously having a bad day. She was upset because the place was crowded and she was having a hard time getting around everyone. She pushed my husband so hard that he fell backwards. My son thankfully was able to catch him. My husband just had spine surgery. Where was the management? Maybe they should control the crowd better. This waitress is a lawsuit waiting to happen for Bernies. read more

I give this place 1 star because although the food is great and they have an extensive and delicious gluten free menu, their staff is full of terrible, mean people. We were there with a large group last night and one waitress basically tackled my brother in law because she needed to get by. Her demeanor was rude the whole time, along with other staff. A solid 4 stars. I know they just recently opened up, but this place has great potential. I am in love with the tiki bar theme and deck area. It's a great place to hang out with friends and get really quality drinks with a fun atmosphere. So our server was super friendly and very knowledgeable of the menu. I opted for the conch fritters to start...I was a little leery, but she swore they were one of the best sellers on their menu. I also decided to go with the lobster rangoon. The server went on to tell me how they get the conch shipped to their restaurant (I won't run my mouth about the details, but wow!), so yeah, they are off the boat fresh! They arrive and are a very pleasant surprise, soooo tasty! With just the perfect amount of conch I might add, such an interesting and delicious addition to the menu = yummo! The cilantro and lime aioli merried well with the flavors the conch. Props for creativity! The rangoons....HELLO?!?!? First of all I heart crab rangoons....so lobster? Ummm yeah! A total hit. A minor gripe is that the lobster gets a little lost in the cream cheese mixture, but they're still super tasty and I would get them again. I was stuffed but I'm a sucker for a good ole lobster roll. I was drooling! A more than generous portion of lobster meat, very fresh tasting, not overpowered by mayo (just the right amount), it's natural sweetness came through. The lobster was cooked very well. Overall a home run! I got a mojito to go with my food, and I watched the bartender muddle the mint and what not, took a little longer to prepare but it was made the way it should be made! Sure this place is new and there are a few "glitches" like with any place, but they'll work them out I'm sure. And I am really hopeful that they plan on expanding their menu soon as well....that might not be until next summer, but I'll be back! :) read more

Would not classify this place as a restaurant. It's a classic beach bar that serves ok food. Not really a good family resturant unless your cool with the kiddies seeing drunks. Yes, they over serve they patrons beyond belief. I bet this beach bar is responsible for a 1/4 of all DUIs coming out of this honky tonk beach town. And at night, the drunks on their stairs is a lawyers delight. So I bet this review will attract the 23 and lower crowd.....but it's not for families. read more

Great place, with a nice view of the beach. Stopped here for lunch, so had no trouble getting a table right away. It appears to be the type of place that may get busy at night, especially the bar area. But, great food. We both had the grilled chicken sandwich, one with Blueberry BBQ sauce, and one with Siracha BBQ sauce. Both were great. The portion sizes were good sized. The prices were probably a little higher than a similar place off the beach would be, but they were more than reasonable for a beach location. Of the beach restaurants I went to during my weekend here, this was probably my favorite. Some of the larger plate options sounded appealing, but were more than i wanted for a lunch. Definitely worth a trip back next time I'm at the beach. Service was very good. The drinks were priced a bit high - but again - beach location. read more

When we asked to order a glass of wine the server had no idea of what kind they had, instead her reply was "we're not really that kind of place". Drinks were mostly syrupy mixed cocktails in cheap plastic cups. Drinks and food were both overpriced. And they allow smoking. The table beside us lit up and didn't have an ashtray nor was one provided to them. The smoke was blowing directly in our faces. This bar has aggressive bouncers who I have personally witnessed throw a number of people down a flight of stairs. Their manner of work is unprofessional and the speed of their service is unrivaled In their slowness. The only reason they are successful is because of their location but I highly recommend a number of other beach side bar/restaurants.
