Luckily I made a reservation for 530 so we were able to park in their private lot. It's been awhile since my boyfriend and I went out for a fancy date since we had our son, so we were very eager to dress up and have a night out! There were a few guests who went all out and got dressed up and others, it was a casual night out for them. They do allow children and they have high-chairs, but if they are fussy it will get a little loud if you're in the main dining area. Since it was our first time here, we weren't sure what to get but we got the following: Sangria and a Peroni Tuna Carpaccio Prosciutto e Mascarpone Pizza Tagliata Panna Cotta Mille Crespelle Who knew all this could fill up 2 people! By the end of dinner, we didn't realize how full we were. The food came out at impeccable timing there was literally no wait! The tuna carpaccio is SOO good. The pizza as well even though I made a crumbly mess because the crust was so thin. The Tagliata wasn't too bad - the sauce is what made it taste better for me. I have been to Bernini a couple times with my kids. My kids asked if it was possible to order pasta with butter and Parmesan. The server was very accommodating and said that it was no problem. Today, however, I called in a takeout order and after my own order I asked for the same plain pasta for the kids. The person on the phone told me that item was not on the menu so I explained how we had ordered it several times before. Reluctantly, she agreed to make the pasta. I was confused by her tone but that is nothing compared to the subsequent bill I received for the plain pasta as well as the paltry amount of pasta for the $21 price (each). I posted a picture of the $21 pasta I received for my 10 and 12 year kids. I suppose they were sending me a message. I got it loud and clear, I will not be returning. read more

Japanese influened Italian makes for light but flavorful food! Most customers are Japanese when I was there. Bit pricey and amount of the dishes are tiny. If you would like to eat a lot you have to preparer to pay more. Pizza is Roman style. Very thin crust. After years of hoping to dine at this lovely restaurant, which is hidden between the Kaka'ako and Ala Moana areas, we decided to celebrate Valentine's Day 2021 with lunch at Bernini. We were warmly greeted upon arrival at the festively yet stylishly decorated location, and impressed by the table settings and pandemic safeguards. We each ordered the 3-course lunch, but shared each between us. The salad and misto (three unique appetizers) were outstanding. We selected two traditional entrees - lasagna and gamberi - and thoroughly enjoyed the savory tastes of each. The desserts - two for both of us - were light yet full of rich flavors. Some pleasant pinot noir and merlot rounded out our meal, which was elevated by the outstanding and kind staff, who answered our questions generously and anticipated all of our needs. Date night! Date night! Finally, please wine and dine me! H and I came here for a date night, it's been ages, literally. I was really excited since I heard great things about Bernini, especially their uni pasta. H loves loves uni, so it's a must for him. We also ordered the grilled seafood (shrimp, scallop and calamari) for appetizer and I had the king crab linguine, finished the dinner with their tiramisu. The grilled seafood appetizer was delicious, nothing special, but the seafood was fresh and perfectly cooked. We were both disappointed at the pastas, H can hardly taste the uni, and I can hardly taste the crab. I recently had the crab granchio from Taormina, and I tasted crab in every bite. The tiramisu was good and had a nice balance with the citrus from orange and grapefruit slides on the side. The best thing about Bernini is its service and atmosphere. read more

Tuna carpaccio: I've never tried a carpaccio dish that was not good so we went with my judgement and hunger and chose this as our appetizer. I'm very pleased with every ingredient in this dish. It was moist enough that with every chew you could taste the sauce. King crab linguine: King crab + linguine = YUMMY IN MY TUMMY. Two things that are good when eaten separate are even better when eaten together! Why didn't I ever think of putting crab in my pasta? Lol. I had leftovers to eat the next day and it was still tasteful (but no food is ever as good as eating it as soon as it's cooked). Uni pasta: For someone who has never tried uni pasta before, I didn't know what to expect. After making a weird face (in my head), I tried it and actually liked it! Norcia pizza (mozzarella, italian sausage, mushroom, walnut and truffle oil): It came with a spicy sauce on the side for you to dip or spread on top of the pizza. I chose to spread it on top. DE-LI-CI-OUS. The spicy kick with the mozzarella, truffle oil and thin crust just works SO VERY WELL! I've never tried anything like it and can still taste it as I write this review. Mille crespelle dessert (basically a layered crepe/strawberry/chocolate dessert): What I liked about this dessert is because it is made with crepe, it was not as heavy as eating a chocolate cake. It was light and sweet, due to the strawberry & chocolate, but not too sweet. I can't eat anything that's too sweet so this dessert was just right. After eating the food above, one slice of this dessert was enough to split among the two of us and a pleasant way to end the dinner. Our waiter was very friendly, attentative and knowledgeable. Friday night and we had a great pizza and the server, Amir, was awesome. We came here on the recommendation of another restaurant we frequent that was closing. We asked the head chef for a recommendation for good Italian style pizza (authentic crispy thin crust) and he recommended Bernini. We had the mushroom, sausage, truffle oil pizza and it was amazing! The wine was pretty good as well. If you are looking for a quaint, good restaurant, this is it. The pizza was excellent at a reasonable price, we live close by so walked over, the wine menu is not inexpensive, but we had a good bottle for 52. I came to this Italian Restaurant with high expectations because it was highly recommended by a few people in the food circle who said the food here is fabulous. I came here thinking this was going to be a mind blowing foodie experience, but i left here very disappointed and with a sour taste in my mouth. Bernini Italian Restaurant is stunningly beautiful. You can tell they put a lot of effort into making this place a comfortable, cozy,chic atmosphere for everyone. It is beautifully set and it reminds of those italian restaurants i would see in Osaka Japan. But the decor isn't what i came here for. What i came here was to eat stellar italian food especially because the owner/chef was Japanese from what i heard, and that made me salivate even more. It started off very promising, but went downhill gradually after that. Let me tell you how things went.. PARKING: Now unless you own a Smartcar, Yugo, or a Ford Fiesta, i wouldnt park in the 8 stalls fronting this restaurant. It is way too small and i wouldn't want you to see your car with a big, dent on the side. I suggest you find parking on the side streets or elsewhere. SERVICE: This was another reason for a subpar dining experience here. Our waiter Chris A.K.A. Bruce Willis was a waiter who is a stiff as man taking two Viagra Pills at once. He had the personality of a petrock and felt like we didn't belong in the restaurant. He acted as if he was gods gift to the waiter world. I felt like i was eating in a 3 star Michelin restaurant or something. Not once did he ask how everything was while we were eating. What's the matter Bruce Willis, was ordering 4 appetizers, 3 pasta dishes, a pizza, bottle of wine with dessert and cocktails for 3 people not enough for you to crack a smile or have a personality? Should i have bought a Die Hard DVD so you could crack a smile for a change? At least the Japanese lady in the front asked us how everything was during the evening. My advice to you people, if you enjoy STIFF service, please ask for Chris, if not stay away from this waiter and ask for Nadia.. FOOD: This is what really got to me, Japanese chefs that own Italian are usually GOLDEN when it comes to Italian food. Places like Arancino on the Beachwalk and Taormina just bring out stellar Italian food. But at Bernini, all of his pasta dishes were too salty, that's right, too salty here. And i wouldn't expect that from a Japanese chef because everything is so subtle when it comes to flavor. And the pizza we ordered, The Francescana Pizza which was beautifully presented, was a disappointment as well.. DO'S: Tuna Carpaccio with Sicilian Lemon Sauce: $19 This appetizer was one of the two highlights of the evening. The tuna meshed well the lemon sauce and arugula and was easy on the palate.. Grilled Scallops with Eggplant in a Balsamic Reduction Sauce: $14 This was another stellar appetizer. The scallops were fork tender and the combination of eggplant and scallops were divine.. Venetian Style Marinated Octopus with Potatoes and Anchovy: $12 The Octopus reminded me of the ones we had in Venice. Nice touch using anchovies on potato as well. Very well executed.. DONT'S: Antipsasti Misti: Chef's Selection of the day: $28 Twent eight dollars may be a bit pricey for an appetizer, but they don't skimp on portions here. For the evening, we had the Porchetta, which was nothing more than deli slices of Smoked Pork for me. The Calamari and Shrimp with Tarragon was loaded with Tarragon and just killed the dish, and the Seared Tuna was not that flavorful at all.. " Ricci di Mare " or Sea Urchin Pasta " Pepperoncini Style " $26 This was the BIGGEST disappointment of the evening: The Uni made in this preparation just killed the sweetness of the Uni. Doing it pepperoncini style just made this dish flavorless and salty. If they done this with a cream sauce, it would have taken it to another level, just like how Taormina and Arancino do it. I would of had 3 orders of Uni Sushi at Izakaya Gaku and enojoyed it immensely. BIG DISAPPOINTMENT.. Beef Ragu " Stewed Angus Meat Sauce " $19 Another disappointing dish because it was recommended by some other people. The Ragu did nothing for us and was extremely SALTY. I don't know if the chef was going off on the salt but it just didn't cut it for us. It looked like Clear Beef Stew to me.. " King Crab " with Tomato Cream Sauce " : $24 How could three pasta dishes be so disappointing? If you're thinking of trying this place, do so with limited expectations. We had tried for weeks to get a reservation, and finally scored a late dinner for six of us. We called to let them know we were running a bit late, good thing since the table wasn't ready when we arrived and we had to wait another 10 minutes for them to turn the table. Disappointment number two arrived in the form of the manager who ran over to the table and rudely informed us "it's our policy not to allow corkage" as we pulled out a bottle of our favorite Italian red to enjoy with dinner. She turned and walked away, glaring at us the rest of the evening. Disappointment number three arrived in the form of the Venetian Style Marinated Octopus ($12). The octopus was a frozen variety that tasted freezer burnt, and the consistency of the meat was not what you would expect from this dish. Disappointment number four arrived in the form of the "Romana Pizza" ($17). On the surface the Pizza looked fine when it arrived, however the flavor of the pie was lackluster and somehow floral. When we looked closer, we identified artichoke hearts as also being placed on the pizza! When we asked the server about it, he commented "oh, I'm sorry - it's a mis-print on our menu." To his credit, they offered to make another pizza for us without the artichoke hearts, but by this time everyone else was finished and it was time to go. There are much better Italian restaurants in Honolulu if you're looking for good food. This Japanese chain better caters to visitors who are looking for Italian Light fare. read more

Bernini is an Italian style restaurant with a somewhat open air feel to it. The kitchen, which is directly ahead when you enter the restaurant is a busy place! Here you will see the chefs creating pastas, pizzas, salads and all kinds of specials. It was here that I discovered the Italian beer, Peroni. A very smooth, somewhat bitter tasting brew with a kick. I also ordered this on my recent trip to a San Francisco Italian eatery. Found my new Italian go to beer! Our waitress, whom I regret forgetting her name, was very informative and attentive. With a charming accent, which we were later informed was her native Russian, kept us intrigued. By the time we were ready to order, we were pretty much well informed. Believe it or not, but I opted for a non-pasta entree this evening, having the special catch of the day instead, which was an Ehu filet in a tomato cream sauce. It was delicious and light, perfect after "appetizing" on all that focaccia bread! Oven fresh, this bread which is served with olive oil is enough to "spoil" your appetite! Be warned... My other dining companions ordered a variety of pizzas and were not disappointed. Although I did notice that one of them may have been a little overdone judging by the blackened crust. The atmosphere of the restaurant is warm and inviting, definitely a place you can gather with friends and family in a nice setting. We were pretty much all too full to partake in any of the desserts. They looked so good on the way in, but after dinner as we were walking out, well, you know what I'm trying to say! :) Tiramisu, panna cotta, gelato... All so tempting! Parking may be an issue here. If you can carpool, definitely do it. There is a small lot in front of the restaurant and it can fill up really fast. When you do turn in, it can be challenging to get back out if there isn't any parking. My suggestion would be to find parking on the surrounding surface streets or in our case, we were fortunate to be dining with a couple of our good friends who happen to live in one of the condos across the street and we could park there. I had heard about Bernini and was anxious to try this new neighborhood restaurant. Sadly, I was so disappointed with it. Our group of five tried different dishes. The shrimp appetizer was mediocre and the portion was very small. Don't expect to really share these bite sized plates. Someone ordered the tako and got extremely ill upon going home. Pizzas were personal size and were average at best. The edges were burnt and the center was soggy. I love thin crust pizza, but these were not cooked properly. The beef pasta was okay, but not worth the $20. Honestly, I feel that there is better value and taste at a CPK or Assagio. I am not one for mall restaurants, and Bernini's menu and flavors would be food served in a food court. As with most restaurants, the wines are extremely over priced. It is Bernini's policy not to allow for you to bring your own wine, which is totally ridiculous. When questioned about this policy, the owner said that she wants us to try their wine selection. Insert hidden meaning of "we want to rip you off with our sub-par wines". We were told rudely that they don't allow outside wines. We had brought three bottles, and if they had charged $25 for corkage, it would have been an easy $75 for the restaurant. But instead, they lost out on our business and future business for us and all of our friends. It would be best to skip this restaurant and try another one. Come time for our main courses, one fourth of our groups orders were botched, another fourths orders had not been made at all. Needless to say, half of our party waited as our food cooled while the restaurant fixed the order for the other half. The exact same thing happened again for our desserts. This gathering was a birthday party and when we called, the hostess clearly told us it would be alright to bring in our own birthday cake. When we did get there, our cake in hand, the hostess told us they did not allow outside cakes and declared that she had never said it was okay to bring a cake. Either she's calling the customers liars or she's lying herself. You want good pasta and an enjoyable time? Save money and skip Bernini. Go to your nearest Zippy's and get their spaghetti. Really cute, intimate little place, where I went this past weekend with 2 girlfriends for dinner and wine. Food was fantastic. We tried the chicken carbonara and spaghetti amatriciana, both were delicious. The chicken carbonara was my fav, as it was perfectly light, creamy, and tasty. We also tried the Prosciutto e Mascarpone pizza, which was amazing. I loved the light, thin crust and the delicious cheese. Service was also wonderful and prices were reasonable for a more upscale experience. The own down sides were the very limited parking and how warm it was in there. It's basically one room with maybe a dozen or so tables, so the kitchen is right out in the open and pizza oven was basically right there next to everyone, heating the place up. So I understand, but it was uncomfortably hot for me especially after a few glasses of Prosecco. But definitely recommend this place. It's perfect for date night or dinner with friends. You can go around the corner and get a better pizza at V Lounge, a pizza whose crust isn't soggy. Sabrina's Restaurant has much better Italian food, though slow. The waiter was really annoying. We asked for a recommendation and he said everything was good. Then, he recommended items that were the most expensive things on the menu. The American coffee was weak. Well, lets start out by saying this was a long evening. this restaurant was recommended to us by a catering company. We wanted "Italian" food. We were seated promptly. The wait staff: not sure who was our waiter. Started with one, ended with another. Told us about the specials got us our waters and bread. Took a while to come and take our order. The waiter had to come back two times to tell our table they were out of what we ordered and we had to pick another item. Funny, one of the items we saw arrive at the next table. They arrived later than us and ordered after us, but we did not get the last order available. What is up with that. Food arrived and one would expect when ordering pasta that you might want Parmesan cheese. We had to ask for it. She came and only gave it to the one person that asked. She walked away and we had to have her come back. Very slow to take the dishes away when we were done with our salads. They brought our meals and no one had removed the salad dishes yet. You could tell the staff delivering the meals were frustrated by their facial expressions. Food: was ok. I am used to real Italian food. The salads were ok, needed a little more flavor. The entrees were ok. Something that was suppose to be spicy, was not. We brought a nice bottle of wine and was told they do not allow it. We checked the website and never saw an exclusion? Told them to add it to the website! I don't live in the area. When I come back, this will not be a place I would come again. One person ordered a veal scalloping special. I was hesitant to come to Bernini Honolulu because of the mixed reviews. I was pleasantly surprised. We were greeted and seated promptly. Our waiter was a great guy, and very personable. I like light wines like Pinot Noir, and he recommended several good ones. He was also gave us the appropriate amount of attention. We ordered an appetizer, an entree each, a bottle of wine, and two desserts. I ordered the crab linguine - excellent, but rather rich tasting. They weren't skimpy on the crab meat either. I can't remember the name of the dessert, but it was a white peach pie that wasn't too sweet - just the way I like it. Espresso topped the dessert off. Downside - The restaurant is a lot smaller than the pictures, and I would have preferred not to sit so close to another party. Also, the parking lot is tiny - only 8 stalls situated diagonally so you have to reverse out. There was a larger car parked on the opposite side and next to me - so it was extremely difficult to get out. 4 stars. Not five star because of the parking and close seating. read more

One of the oddities of this joint is this: the workers sound like they've been plucked right out of Rome but the patrons are all natives of Japan. Riddle me that one. The thing with all the food in this place is that it is seasoned extremely well and is bursting with flavor. I don't think you can go wrong with anything. Next time I come, I want to try the King Crab linguine which all the yelpers are yelping about! And a pizza. Everyone around us got pizza and I got...jealous. Lastly. The parking lot sucks. Definitely a contender for worst parking lot in Honolulu. There's perhaps 10 stalls and once all the stalls are filled, there's no way to get out. Yes, you read that right. Whoever designed the lot clearly does not drive. Whatever the case, the restaurant needs to either: 1) get valet parking OR 2) assign a worker outside to HELP the people out of the lot. 3 1/2 stars! I passed by this place many times without knowing there was a restaurant tucked in there. Parking is very limited so plan to arrive 15 mins early if your meeting someone. I read a few Yelp reviews before coming here and was a bit skeptical and braced for an average experience. However, I was pleasantly surprised. I started with the Roasted Mushroom salad which was very delicious. I loved the warm mushrooms with the cool salad. I then had the "Beef Ragu" - with Angus Beef sauce and that was very yummy!!! The pasta was done perfectly and the flavor of the sauce was perfectly balanced. Then unfortunately we ended the evening with disappointing desserts. The Tiramisu was small and ordinary. Nothing much to say about that one. Then we had the "Affogato" Vanilla Gelato with Espresso. That was decent and not too bad, but once again nothing to rave or brag about. Last we had the "Buddino" Custard Pudding...darn it that one was such a let down. Best way to describe it is a overpriced and under flavored flan with a scoop of cream. Too bad, it started so well. To sum it up, atmosphere was a 3.75 stars, food 4 stars (dessert 2.75 stars), service 3.5 stars. I rounded my rating up to 4 stars because I did enjoy my evening. I was lucky enough to be treated to dinner at Bernini by my girlfriends. We'd meant to go a year ago, but all kinds of real life "stuff" got in the way. As noted by others, parking is not great. We were there for the first seating, however, so all of us got spaces. Apologies to the other diners! My friends had definite ideas about what they wanted to eat, so I just went along with their choices. Here's what we had: Prosciutto and Marscapone Pizza - This arrived first and was by far my favorite part of the meal. It reminded me of this pizza I love to get in New York. Why is marscapone so good? King Crab Linguine - This was fine, but not something I'd make it a point to order again. Maybe I don't like shredded crab. Half Chicken Al Forno - This reminded me of the chicken I'd had at Grondin a couple nights prior, as it had a slightly crispy skin yet retained its moisture. The accompanying mashed potatoes felt a little weird as a side For dessert we tried: Panna Cotta - I don't think I've ever met a panna cotta I didn't like, though I wasn't in love with the white wine gelee. I kept thinking of the Top Chef season with Marcel and his gelees and foams. Okay maybe that's just me. Crepes - This was actually, ahem, not supposed to be shared by the group, as someone, ahem, declared that she was ordering it just for herself. Unluckily for her, they used it to write my happy birthday message (hard to write that on a panna cotta I guess), so she was forced to share. Hahaha. It was okay I think? I didn't want to eat too much of it. Service was great. Portions are not tiny but not generous either. As with Grondin, I got a really overpriced vibe from this place, and I felt so badly about being treated here. Still, the food was quite good. The host was extremely rude but our server Royce was terrific. The crab pasta and risotto was fantastic. However the clam pasta, the pizza and sadly, the Uni pasta was subpar. I enjoyed the ambiance and open kitchen. Too bad the first impression was a bad one. read more

Having passed by it several times on the way to the mall we were intrigued at this new restaurant that popped up on Queen Street across the street from Hawaiiki. After doing more research, we found out that it was a Japanese owned Italian restaurant and were excited to give it a try. Walking into Bernini, the atmosphere was modern yet cozy and I felt like I was back in either New York or Toronto. We were greeted by the friendly hostess and server who promptly served us our drinks and their home made focaccia. We had the appetizer trio antipasto and by far the Octopus with potato was our favorite dish! So refreshing and delicious! For our main course, 4 of us shared the asparagus/gorgonzola pizza, the King Crab Linguini, and Home made pancetta spaghetti. Man oh man...was it DELICIOUS!! The pizza was so light and thin and it went well with this "spicy sauce" they served with the pizza. As for the pasta, the pasta itself was delicious and you can tell from the taste that it was home made. The sauce for both dishes were excellent and distinctly unique. Definitely one of the better (if not the best) Italian food I've had in Hawaii. Price wise it was moderate, about $40 per person which included a bottle of wine....so overall not bad The grand opening is April 14th but we'll definitely be back before to try their uni pasta (which had run out by the time we dined) and other pizzas! I was pretty pumped to try this place after spying yummy food pics on facebook and hearing so much positive buzz, but in the end my overall opinion averaged out to an "eh." Start and finish were quite delicious, but the in between was pretty average. THE GOOD: tasty caponata, perfectly cooked scallops, and pizza with honey and super delicious house made hot sauce...that last combo truly tickled my palate. Dessert was on point too, with all of us a part of the clean plate club, spooning up our panna cotta with fruit gelee and leaving nothing but a smear of cocoa powder where once there was tiramisu. THE AVERAGE: While our pasta was perfectly al dente and there was nothing really wrong with it, I simply felt quite underwhelmed as we made our way through the vongole bianco and king crab with tomato cream. So mediocre when what I really want when I dine out is the kinda dish that makes you say "MMM!" and exclaim "YUMMY!" out loud. Service was great and like many have mentioned parking is limited. I might return for pizza, wine, and lots o' dessert, but that is a fairly big maybe. I'd rather skip the snazzy inside and perhaps wait a bit longer for my food to enjoy the yumminess, warm welcome, and dishes prepared with lots o' love at Sabrinas. read more
